Two weeks after pushing the release of Ron Howard‘s racing film back to September 27, Universal now has decided to open Rush a week earlier — on its original opening date – exclusively in Los Angeles and New York. The pic about the rivalry between 1970s Formula 1 drivers James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) will get its limited release against the Warner Bros actioner Prisoners and Sony’s drama Battle of the Year. When it goes wide the following week, Rush will go against openers Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 (Sony/Columbia), Baggage Claim (Fox Searchlight) and Don Jon (Relativity). It will have its North American premiere with a Gala Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival.
