EXCLUSIVE: After a strong start with the Richard Linklater-directed Before Midnight, Castle Rock Entertainment is extending its relationship with Jacob Pechenik’s Venture Forth Productions to finance more films. The next two film projects in this burgeoning relationship are the Amy Herzog-scripted Daughter Of The Bride and the Frank Baldwin-scripted crime thriller Pure. They are out to directors and intend to shoot both films early next year. CRP retains its first look deal at Warner Bros, where it has long been based.

Scripted by Obie Award-winning playwright Herzog, Daughter Of The Bride is a romantic comedy is a romantic comedy centering on a fiercely independent single woman whose values are shaken when her similarly independent mother impulsively decides to get remarried and asks her daughter to plan the wedding. Herzog’s plays include 4000 Miles and Belleville and this is her first film script. Marc Lawrence and his Banter Films will produce along with Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer, Liz Glotzer and Pechenik.

In Pure, a suburban au pair’s secret Manhattan nightlife draws her into a web of crime and passion. Baldwin’s credits include When Corruption Was King for Paramount and he is adapting John Grisham’s The Racketeer for New Regency and Fox. CRP’s Shafer and Glotzer are producing with Pechenik.

Pechenik’s Venture Forth has a slate that includes the Afonso Poyart’s Solace with Anthony Hopkins, the Mike Binder-directed Black And White with Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer, and the Peter Bogdanovich-directed comedy Squirrels To The Nuts, which stars Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston.

Said Shafer: “Jacob was a wonderful partner for us on Before Midnight and we are very excited to continue our relationship with him.”

Castle Rock’s Shafer and Glotzer most recently produced the Marc Lawrence-directed untitled romantic comedy that stars Hugh Grand and Marisa Tomei, and are exec producers of the Rob Reiner-directed And So It Goes, which stars Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. Both are in post-production.
