EXCLUSIVE: Back when Shark After Dark was announced — from after-show impresario Michael Davies (The Talking Dead, Watch What Happens Live) and CBS late-night host/avid Shark Week fan Craig Ferguson — Discovery Channel said it was lining up guests for its first late-night Shark Week after-show who were Shark Week-passionate or had shark connections. Mark Cuban, of course, stars in ABC’s Shark Tank. Close enough. Lost fave Dominic Monaghan now stars in BBC America’s nature show, Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan which that network announced is returning for another season in 2014. And Tara Reid is enjoying a career resuscitation as one of the two-legged scenery chewers in Syfy’s flick/media darling Sharknado! which, in its third run on the network, snagged its biggest audience yet — 2 mil plus.

Shark After Dark premieres this Sunday and will air each night during Shark Week from 11-midnight ET/PT. Josh Wolf — best known for his regularly appearances on E’s Chelsea Lately — is hosting, despite having no love for sharks. “I know for sure I’m scared of them and I know for sure that I don’t want to see one face to face,” he recently told Deadline. But, he added, “I also know for sure that people are crazy passionate about Shark Week, and anybody who knows me will tell you… I like to be around passion and energy, even if I don’t get it.”
Discovery says the nightly show will be an hourlong celebration of all things shark-related, including shark experts, shark attack survivors, and celebrities who want to talk shark. The show also will give viewers the first change to tweet questions to the shark experts, and look back at some of the highlights from the past 26 years of Shark Week. “It’s shameful that the shark demographic has been neglected for so long by late-night TV,” Ferguson, a past Shark Week host, said when Shark After Dark was first announced. “I’m delighted to be making a show that combined comedy, with chat and ferocious biting predators.”
