With head-spinning volume of broadcast development every year, it is inevitable that some projects fall through the cracks or don’t realize their full potential. It is encouraging that the networks appear more and more willing to give shows another chance. Several new series this coming season, including ABC’s The Goldbergs and Super Fun Night and CBS’ We Are Men, had been previously developed at the same or another network. And an unusually large number of pilots from last season were given a second lease on life with cast extensions. (One, CBS comedy The McCarthys, already received an order for a new pilot.) Here are two other projects from last season that are getting a second shot.

Amblin TV is having one of its drama projects at ABC from last season, SAGA, redeveloped at the network with a new writer. Chris Black has come on board to write the high-concept project, replacing Andrew Miller. In SAGA, when the author of a best-selling book series (think J.K. Rowling) goes missing before she can complete the final installment in her epic fantasy saga, a family of fans discovers she’s been kidnapped into the very real world of her books and attempts to rescue her. Amblin TV is co-producing with Full Fathom Five where the project originated. SAGA was part of a three-for-one drama deal Amblin had at ABC last season. It resulted in a pilot order for Lucky 7, which ultimately went to series. Amblin is coming off the success of its summer drama series Under The Dome, which was recently renewed, and the biggest sale this development season for sci-fi spec Extant, which received a series order at CBS.

Another production company with a successful new summer series, Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills (NBC’s recently renewed Hollywood Game Night), has a multi-camera comedy from writer Jen Burton that has found a new home. The project, about a 30-year-old who moves back home, was originally developed at NBC last season. It has now been set up at ABC with Betsy Thomas supervising
