(Beverly Hills, Calif.) August 19, 2013 – Relativity announced today that Russell Schwartz, a consultant to the studio, is joining the company as President of Theatrical Marketing. In addition, the studio announced that Dana Precious will take on the newly created position of President of Creative Advertising. Schwartz will report to both Relativity President Tucker Tooley and CEO Ryan Kavanaugh. Precious will report to Tooley, who made the announcement.
Schwartz and Precious will jointly create and manage all aspects of Relativity’s marketing campaigns for its feature films including Luc Besson’s The Family, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon, Jimmy Hayward’s Free Birds and Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace.
Terry Curtin has decided to leave the studio to start her own consulting company.
“Russell is an extremely talented, resourceful and innovative marketer, and I have long admired and respected his campaigns since we first worked together at New Line,” commented Tooley. “Relativity is also incredibly fortunate to have such a creative force as Dana join our marketing leadership team as the studio continues to grow.”
Tooley added: “We thank Terry for her years of hard work and dedication to the studio. She has crafted creative marketing campaigns for some of the company’s most successful films. We are very grateful for Terry’s help in building Relativity into the successful studio it is today.”
Curtin said: “It has been an exhilarating experience being on the front line of such an entrepreneurial company. My career has spanned working at major and independent studios and in creative and digital on the agency side. I feel it is now time to take the far ranging experience I have amassed and start my own consulting company. I wish all of my very talented colleagues at Relativity much continued success in the future.”
As President of Theatrical Marketing at New Line Cinema, Schwartz oversaw the company’s marketing efforts, which resulted in over 44 Academy Award nominations and billions of dollars at the domestic box office. Some of the films Schwartz orchestrated marketing campaigns for included The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Hairspray, Wedding Crashers, Rush Hour 2 and 3, The Notebook, About Schmidt, Elf and Little Children. Prior to New Line, he was President of USA Films. Before joining Relativity, Schwartz was a consultant to the studio and President of Pandemic Marketing Corporation, which provides strategic marketing consulting services for feature films.
As EVP of Worldwide Theatrical Marketing at Marvel, Precious oversaw marketing campaigns for such films as Thor and Captain America. Prior to Marvel, she was EVP of Theatrical Marketing at Fox and EVP of Domestic Theatrical Marketing at Sony. She has spearheaded campaigns for such franchises as The Avengers, Spider-Man, Charlie’s Angels, Stuart Little and Men in Black. Prior to Relativity, Precious was EVP of Creative Advertising and Brand Marketing at The Cimarron Group.
