Last night’s double shot of Fox’s MasterChef saw judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot bring their kids on-air as well as a long-ago filmed cameo by the disgraced Paula Deen rear its head. Even with last week, the 9 PM MasterChef (2.4/7) was again the top show of the night in adults 18-49. As things heated up with the final four heading toward the September 11 season finale, the show was also up 13% in viewers to 6.3 million. Back after a month and a half, the 8 PM MasterChef (2.0/7) slipped 9% from its previous original July 10 but stayed about even with its last viewership numbers with 5.3 million watching. Pulling in a 2.2/7, the two-hour MasterChef block was down 4% overall from its last airing July 10, which scored a 2.3/7. However, with that 2.2/7, Fox won the night in the key demo while NBC was tops in viewers with an audience of 6.402 million. NBC finished a far second in adults 18-49 with a 1.5/5 while Fox was No. 2 in viewers with 5.820 million.
On NBC, America’s Got Talent (2.2/6) had Simon Cowell-constructed pop sensation One Direction, a clean-shaven Howie Mandel and the Round 1 semifinal results. The live show saw a 5% bump up from last week’s season low among 18-49s. AGT was also the most-watched show of Wednesday night with 9.69 million viewers. Preceded by a recap show (1.3/5), AGT was followed by Australian dramedy Camp (0.9/3), which was flat with last week’s show. That matches the freshman series’ lowest demo result so far.
Wednesday primetime saw Big Brother (2.07) dip 9% from its August 21 show. Matching Fox’s 8 PM MasterChef in the demo, the veteran CBS reality series was No. 1 in viewers in the time slot with 6.26 million. Other than Big Brother, CBS was all repeats with Criminal Minds (0.9/3) and CSI (1.1/3). As the dispute with Time Warner Cable grinds on, CBS was still dark to 3.2 million subscribers in LA, NYC and Dallas markets.
ABC’s only original of the night was Nightline: The Lookout (0.8/2). The newsmagazine show saw a solid rise of 14% from last week’s episode.
