Marvel Studios‘ Ant-Man feature had been set for November 6, 2015, but now Disney will release the pic on July 31, 2015. Edgar Wright is directing and he co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish.

I think it’s a bad idea. With a more-than-crowded summer, with The Avengers and Star Wars on the Disney side (BTW: two years ago, who would have thought this would be said?), moving Ant Man to July (basically August) is not a good idea.
Unless… One of those movies moves to the Holiday season.
Rumor is Star Wars is getting moved to late in the year.
Even if Star Wars was to move to winter 2015 or summer 2016, I dont think moving Ant Man into summer of 2015 is a good idea either. It will be two weeks after Man of Steel 2 and audiences will likley be burned out.
The sad part is that Ant Man is going to be more critically acclaimed based on Edgar Wright’s record than MOS2 which sounds even worse than MOS, a disappointing film that calls itself a superman film.
Actually, it calls itself a Man of Steel film. Not MOS (the “O” should be lower-case, by the way) or “superman.” (The “s” should be upper-case. I know you can do it!)
And, yeah, the movie sucked donkey.
Oliver, that was the most obnoxious thing I’ve read all day.
i do agree in some way but putting up against bond is a bad idea and second put in the summer is better than putting it in a over crowded holiday season
So many bombs in 2015……….so many.
Only avengers 2 and star wars will be great. Expect a lot of bomps.
I hope Star wars stay in April or May. May is only with avengers until now. If not than december 18th is only other possible good date. Still think star wars will be highest grossing movie not only on 2015 but beat avatar as well. So may be to release it when avatar was release (i mean the same date) it’s not that bad idea.
Disney should have just moved it to March 2016 and nixed releasing 3 animated films a year,
Which is suppose to start n 2016. Choosing to greenlight Ant-man instead of Black Panther
Was a huge mistake. It is going to bomb hard and be campy as hell. the title alone will have
Audiences gig.ling just like the “cowboys and aliens” title did. Mark my words!
Of course they did! I think Edgar Wright’s take on Ant-Man will be amazing, and right now it’s the Marvel film I’m most looking forward to, but let’s face it: you don’t want to open a second- (or third-) string superhero (sorry, Hank!) against James Bond coming of the series-best billion dollar gross of Skyfall. Opening in July I hope it gives Wright a much-deserved bona fide hit.
Is so weird that Ant-Man is getting off the ground, just when Hank Pym has been stripped of, arguably, his greatest creation:
Any idea who’s going to play Pym?
Who says it’ll even be Pym?
Ant Man? The Atom could wipe him all over a matchhead.
I think that this is smart. Their previously release date was the same day as the next James Bond film.
I’m hoping Garrett Morris gets to reprise his turn as Ant Man (as seen in the Margot Kidder hosted episode of SNL). If not him then maybe Jake Gyllenhaal.
Anyone else think Disney is going to oversaturate the market with Marvel and Lucas Film creations over the next decade. I will be sadly surprised if audiences don’t start choking on all these “offerings.”
I will be surprised if audiences don’t fork over stacks of cash to validate Marvel/Disney/Lucas for another twenty years.
Because “Boss Nass: The Movie” is still a more surefire hit than The Lone Ranger.
I don’t know. I feel like this a weird move. The summer movie season of 2015 already looks like it’s going to be a blood bath. I think I would’ve left it back in November.
it won’t survive in november maybe they should have moved it to april 2016
I agree with that. I just think moving it to Summer 2015 is a weird call. That season looks like it’s going to play out like a gladiator’s match or something, lol
Star Wars 7 will be highest grossing movie of all time until avatar 2 in 2016! Star wars will be release in April or May. All star wars were release in May. If not in summer only other date is december 18th. The same date as AVATAR premiere.
Yeah, okay, lol if you think AVATAR 2 will be anywhere near as popular as the first film. The original film was released right smack in the middle of the 3-D fad which has totally waned. Besides, won’t it be an entire cartoon this time with no humans even in it? Way too long between sequels also will diminish its intake.
Do you meand the movie will be in CG…… CG and cartoon are two separate things…. Their were no cartoons in avatar
Then what do you call Pixar?
While 3D has faded in the US, it’s still huge worldwide.
Avatar has sold a whole load of DVDs and Blu Rays. So it’s probably been viewed in a whole load of homes. And a whole load of kids who were too young to see it in the theatre will be curious to see a sequel on the big screen. And a whole load of other kids who loved it on the big screen may go back for old times sake. (Kind of like Episode VII syndrome, or indeed The Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings…)
For us grown-ups, I guess the main factor will be whether the sequel is any good. Many of us found the first one astounding, and very functional, but sometimes a little simple.
It would be one thing if it actually became a franchise like those movies sooner. Apparently even without technology, Cameron is still a “perfectionist”.
Ant-Man? Wow, they’re really scraping the bottom of the superhero barrel, aren’t they?
… the sad thing is, they really haven’t yet.
We won’t have hit the bottom until someone decides to make a film out of “Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy”.
Come on, Scott Pilgrim wasn’t that bad.
Laugh all you want about Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy will be one of the biggest surprise hits of next summer. No reason why this can’t be the same for 2015. And if Batman vs. Superman is a disappointment 2 weeks prior then Ant-Man can run away with the rest of the summer. It’s a risk that could pay off big.
Thats a big if regarding Superman/Batman being a “disappointment” (a subjective standard) and being an outright box office flop. Regardless of how one feels about Man of Steel, the film showed there is still a big audience for Superman and the Batman series had become under Nolan, as big a money maker as The Avengers team up film.
Surely there will be carry over of a big portion of that audience to see how Affleck wears the cape and cowl in contrast to Bale in a historic first cinematic meeting with Superman .
If this Antman news has any effect on the Superman/Batman film it will be for WB to pull out even more stops to insure their film is a monster hit. That could be Brian Cranston getting cast as Lex Luthor and adding another big name as a “henchman” like Leo Di Caprio as The Riddler who WB was pushing Nolan to cast in his third Batman film.
I hope Marvel is still considering lower-budget movies.
July seems like a pretty big move for Ant-Man. Makes me feel that they are really confident about what it can/will do. Third Marvel movie on November 2015? Hmm…
Ant-man is not a B level superhero. He not only was an original Avenger but without him, there would be no Wasp (one of my favorite Avangers), as well as no Ultron, no Vision, no Giant Man, etc.
I hate how negative the internet is. Apparently every movie made nowadays sux real bad. Strange that people keep going to see movies in droves.
I love big movies, know no movie is perfect, and can enjoy entertainment even if it is flawed. Try it internets!
That stuff is only known to Marvel comic book fans. To the rest of the planet, Ant-Man is brand new and has never existed before.
Personally, I wish they would do the shrinking and the giant-powers, as they did in the Avengers cartoon series, combined with the insect control tech. It gives the character more action versatility.
I read somewhere they’re going with the Scott Lang version of the character.
I wouldn’t call a character who sounds so “1960s” brand new.
Better against the third week of MOS2 rather than opening the same weekend as James Bond. Skyfall was very popular whereas MOS was split down the middle. Also, World War Z did pretty well a week after MOS opened. So, smart move for Marvel.
