‘Copper’ Will Make UK Debut Streaming On LoveFilm
LoveFilm has acquired UK rights to Cineflix series Copper. The series follows Vikings as the second to debut in the UK exclusively via the streaming service, bypassing traditional broadcasters. Netflix competitor LoveFilm will make the show available for streaming starting Friday. Tom Weston-Jones, Kyle Schmid and Anastasia Griffith star in the period police drama co-created by Tom Fontana and Will Rokos. Copper airs on BBC America in the U.S.

Andrea Iervolino, Monika Bacardi Launch AMBI Pictures
Italian producer Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi have partnered to launch indie production and finance entity, AMBI Pictures. Headquartered in Rome, The company aims to “serve as a top-tier supplier of mainstream projects for both the studios and major independent distributors worldwide”. AMBI said today it will pursue “Hollywood talent and international stars” and back three to four films per year at various budget levels. The first two projects are romantic comedy Devil May Care, directed by Gabriela Tagliavini and slated for a November start date, and dramedy Tre Tocchi, directed by Marco Risi, which begins shooting this month in Italy. Iervolino’s producing or co-producing credits include The Merchant Of Venice, Gorbaciof and Napoletans. Bacardi is the widow of Luis Bacardi of the rum-producing family. Commenting on the launch, Iervolino said: “Monika and I are inspired by stories with strong points of view yet highly entertaining in the tradition of classic Hollywood. We are thrilled to take on this exciting new endeavor together and work creatively and collaboratively to build something very special.” Funding is coming from private equity.

Production Starts On ‘South Africa 28Up’
ITV Studios
’ format 28Up has begun production in South Africa for Al Jazeera. A co-production from Shiver, ITV Studios and Al Jazeera, it will air on the satellite network in the fall. ITV also will show a 90-minute special of South Africa: 28Up in the UK. The series follows the personal journeys of young people all over South Africa who were born into the apartheid era. Now aged 28, they share their stories again, 14 years after the first South Africa: Up. Al Jazeera has acquired all previous programs in the series. The original Up series was made in the UK; the latest installment, 56 Up, aired on ITV last year.

Zodiak France, Blush Film Partner To Develop Dramas
Zodiak France — which houses production companies including Marathon, Marathon Media, Tele Images, GTV, ALP, KM and Mona Lisa — has entered a partnership with former TF1 SVP Drama Karine Evrard and her new company Blush Film. Under the arrangement, Blush will exclusively develop its drama projects with Zodiak France, with Evrard focusing on creating new scripted shows, some to be co-produced with other drama producers within the group. Evrard currently is developing four hourlong comedy and drama series with Marathon. Evrard joined TF1 in 1994 and became SVP Drama in 2011.

Philippa Mossman Joins Film New Zealand
Film New Zealand has tapped Philippa Mossman as Director of Business Development and Enquiries. The 20-year industry veteran joins Film NZ from Television New Zealand, where she was Programme Commissioner. “With roles in production, channel management, programming and partnership at Television New Zealand, Philippa has excellent contacts and knowledge of the New Zealand industry,” CEO Gisella Carr said. “This will be invaluable in helping to match New Zealand screen industry expertise with inbound productions.”
