EXCLUSIVE: Todd Hoffman, who at ICM Partners built a strong business repping writers as well as intellectual property storehouses like The New York Times, 60 Minutes and New York magazine, has launched the management/production company Storied Media Group. Hoffman, who left ICM over the summer after a long run there, brings with him a stable of writer clients that include Emmy-winning Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, Nebraska co-writer Bob Nelson, Moneyball‘s Stan Chervin, playwright-writer-director Stephen Belber (Management), Girl In Progress scribe Hiram Martinez and AD Jeffrey Lynch. He also brings with him the above-mentioned publications as well as 60 Minutes Sports, Public Radio International, The McClatchy Company and Say Media. The idea behind the latter is to make outlets like NYT, 60 Minutes and New York magazine’s partners in option deals that are made for content originated by the publications.
I’ve always found Hoffman to be one of the smarter guys in this niche. Among other projects he has helped facilitate is Red Blooded American, the Warner Bros and Atlas Entertainment feature on Lance Armstrong project that has Jay Roach directing and Scott Z. Burns writing and Bradley Cooper attached to star; the feature film about Penn State legend Joe Paterno and how his legacy was undone by a convicted pedophile defensive coordinator, with Al Pacino attached to play the late football coach and Brian De Palma directing; and Gospel For Teens, a Universal Pictures/Illumination Entertainment project hatched from a 60 Minutes segment about a program for Harlem teens to find refuge from the rough streets and pass down the gospel music art form to a new generation. On the production side, Hoffman has TV projects set up with DreamWorks Television, Vuguru, Eric Tannenbaum and Davis Entertainment, and feature projects set with Temple Hill, Scott Free and Radar. The young man ought to do OK.
