Deadline Hollywood’s popular The Contenders event returns for the third year on Saturday, November 2nd. Once again, our specially invited Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members and select Guild voters will have the opportunity to hear directly from the actors, directors, writers, producers, cinematographers, sound editors, composers and others about this year’s crop of top award contenders.
And this year we are moving to a brand new location — The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The historic Beverly Hills Post Office has been completely restored and adjacent to it is the new 500-seat, state-of-the-art Goldsmith Theatre. The venue opens in a couple of weeks and we will be one of the first groups to experience the new facility.
As for The Contenders, it promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever, topping even 2012′s overflow edition as it continues growing into one of the season’s premier events with a record number of studios now confirmed to participate: CBS Films, DreamWorks Animation, Focus Features, Fox Searchlight, Paramount Pictures, Roadside Attractions, Sony Pictures, Sony Pictures Classics, Universal, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros and The Weinstein Company. It will be a packed day (9 AM-5 PM) where we’ll be showcasing more than 25 films. I will be moderating some sessions again this year along with my colleagues, Film/NY Editor Mike Fleming Jr and staff reporter Dominic Patten.
Our thanks to the sponsors of the event which include Dell, Rolls Royce, Paradigm, Rentrak and the Honolulu Film Office.
