Fox‘s The Simpsons, which last killed off a character at the start of the century, will whack another this season. Fourteen years after Maude Flanders met the Grim Reaper on the animated comedy, another regular character will meet their Maker — or whatever is the cartoon equivalent — in this the show’s 25th season. Executive producer Al Jean said so during a recent phone conference with the press to promote Sunday’s return of our country’s longest-running primetime scripted TV series. He declined to name the character, except to say, “I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character,” as first reported by Canada’s Sun News. That narrows it down to — nearly everyone. When the producers bumped Maude in the series’ 11th season on Feb. 13, 2000 — killed while watching a speedway race – 10.8 million tuned in, a.k.a. about the same number of people as watched the Breaking Bad finale last Sunday. It was that week’s most watched Fox primetime broadcast.
