EXCLUSIVE: Coming off a starring turn opposite Dwayne Johnson in MGM’s upcoming feature Hercules, British actor Reece Ritchie is making his first foray into American television with a starring role in another action-adventure project, Fox‘s 13-episode series Hieroglyph. Produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment, Hieroglyph, which is eyed for next season, is set in ancient Egypt, where fantasy and reality intertwined. It follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharoah (Ritchie), navigating palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and even a few divine sorcerers. Ritchie’s Shai is the young, handsome Pharaoh who rules with an iron fist and fully trusts no one. He is obsessed with maintaining power over his kingdom, which he’ll do by any means necessary. Executive producing the project are creator Travis Beacham, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Miguel Sapochnik, who will direct the premiere episode.
Ritchie, whose feature credits also include The Lovely Bones and Prince Of Persia, is repped by UTA, Thruline and Conway van Gelder Grant in the UK.
