berlinaleofficialposterThe Berlin Film Festival isn’t kidding this week, completing section lineups in rapid succession. The latest is the Panorama sidebar that now has 24 world premieres out of 36 films from 29 countries. In today’s announement, organizers singled out what they call “one of this year’s most astonishing debuts” from 21-year-old Chinese director Zhou Hao. His film, Ye, is “reminiscent of love is strangeFassbinder, Genet or Wong Kar Wai,” the fest says. Opening Panorama’s main program on February 6 is Vietnamese sci-fi pic Nước (2030) by Nghiêm-Minh Nguyễn-Võ. As previously announced, Jalil Lespert’s Yves Saint Laurent opens Panorama Special the next day when Ira Sachs will also present his latest work, Love Is Strange, with Alfred Molina, John Lithgow and Marisa Tomei; the film is premiering in Sundance. The Panorama section last year included Felix van Groeningen’s The Broken Circle Breakdown which was nominated for a Foreign Language Oscar yesterday. The list of previously announced Panorama titles is here, and below are today’s additions:
