Even though the theme of the upcoming Academy Awards is heroes, you knew that Oscarcast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron weren’t going to limit this to spandex-clad superheroes and Gladiator‘s Maximus. So Zadan and Meron, best known for the musicals Chicago, Hairspray and most recently the TV ratings blockbuster The Sound Of Music, have found a way to empower some hoofing and singing. They announced today they will do a big honor thing for the 75th anniversary of The Wizard Of Oz. There will inevitably be complaining this year no matter which film wins Best Picture, but can you believe that that film didn’t win in 1939? Actually, it is hard to whine because the winner was Gone With The Wind. ”We are delighted to celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved movies of all time at this year’s Oscars,” said Zadan and Meron.
