You can’t blame ABC for not trying hard with its new series. After midseason comedy Mixology flopped in its debut behind the network’s biggest comedy series, Modern Family, last Wednesday, ABC gave it extra sampling behind its top reality series currently on the air, The Bachelor. Hurt in the process was veteran drama Castle. The 90-minute The Bachelor: Women Tell All special (2.2) was down 12% from last week’s regular Bachelor episode and down 19% from last season’s two-hour Women Tell All special. With a repeat of the Mixology premiere dropping to a 1.1 at 9:30 PM, ABC’s Castle (1.6) slipped a tenth from last week when it aired directly after The Bachelor to a new series low.
A slightly worrisome sign for another 10 PM drama, NBC’s The Blacklist (2.7), already renewed for next season. The freshman dropped 13% from last week to log its lowest rating ever behind The Voice, despite the singing competition (4.5, down 4% from last Monday’s season premiere) logging its second best Monday demo rating since Oct. 14.
Fox’s Almost Human wrapped its freshman run with a 1.5 in adults 18-49, down a tenth from last week. It would’ve been better if the futuristic drama didn’t slip in its last two airings but it still made a decent case for renewal after a slow start, in part because fellow new drama Rake misfired and Almost Human‘s Monday companion The Following has been struggling too. After matching Almost Human‘s rating last week, the thriller drama inched up a tenth last night to a 1.7.
A puzzling second consecutive decline for CBS’ How I Met Your Mother (3.3, down 8%) as the veteran comedy heads into its final few weeks. But the rest of CBS’ comedies all ticked up a tenth from last week’s suppressed return from hiatus: 2 Broke Girls (2.6), Mike & Molly (2.2) and Mom (2.0). New drama Intelligence is nothing if not consistent, logging a 1.2 for a third straight week. In Week 3, The CW’s Star-Crossed (0.4) rebounded a tenth to match its premiere rating. Beauty & the Beast (0.3) was flat.
