Let’s just call Thursday’s primetime by the moniker “Elimination Night,” why don’t we? Because with a thinning of the contestants on both Hell’s Kitchen (1.7.7) and Big Brother (2.1/8), that’s exactly what was going on for the two top-rated Big 4 shows of the night. While the vet CBS reality show was even with last week, the penultimate episode of Season 12 of Gordon Ramsay’s cooking competition show was up 13% from its July 10 airing. That’s another double-digit rise for the Fox series in as many weeks as HK head towards its July 24 finale. That traction on HK was a nice lead-in to 9 PM, Gang Related (0.9/3) that saw another rise itself. This week the freshman drama jumped 29% from last week’s show.
As impressive as that is, Fox did not find itself in the top spot ratingswise or in terms of viewership. In fact, none of the Big 4 was No. 1 among Adults 18-49. Airing the 11th annual Premios Juventud youth awards for all of primetime, Univision was first in the ratings with a 1.7/5. Tied with Fox with a 1.3/5 rating, CBS was No. 1 in viewership last night with 5.105 million viewers.
Both ABC and NBC had a full stale of originals last night. On the former, Black Box (0.6/3) was down 14% from last week while Rookie Blue (0.9/3) and NY Med (0.9/3) were even with their July 10 airings.
After a drop last week from its last original, Hollywood Game Night (1.1/4) shot up 22% in the key demo last week. Newbie comedies Welcome To Sweden (0.8/3) and Working The Engels (0.6/2) both took a tumble in their second week with an 11% and 14% fall respectively. Last Comic Standing (1.1/4) ended the night for NBC up 10% from a weak July 10 show.
