One catch can bring in as much as $20,000, but with a limited fishing season and dwindling tuna populations, the fishermen are fighting for their economic survival every time they set sail. In Wicked Tuna: North Vs. South, the producers are mining a fish-out-of-water storyline, in which  several Wicked Tuna fan faves, and some newbies, are sent south to fish for bluefin tuna in unfamiliar Carolina waters before the experienced locals beat them to the catch. The Northern captains must conquer new styles of fishing, treacherous waters, and the wrath of the Outer Banks’ top fishermen, as they gamble on what could be a massive payday, or a big financial loss. Dangerous waters aren’t the only challenge with which the New England captains have to contend — they must also grapple with the fleet from Wanchese, N.C.

Wicked Tuna: North vs. South includes Captain Dave Marciano and first mate Jay Muenzner of the fishing vessel the Hard Merchandise; the young, hot-headed Captain Tyler McLaughlin from the Pin Wheel; and Season 3 newcomer Captain TJ Ott of the Hot Tuna.
