EXCLUSIVE: A7SLE Films has hired Max La Bella to script the true story adaptation The Devil’s Rooming House, about early 20th century murderess Amy Archer-Gilligan. A7SLE Films, the production shingle co-founded by Twilight and Nurse Jackie star Peter Facinelli, snapped up rights to writer M. William Phelps’ chronicle of the Archer-Gilligan saga last year. Archer-Gilligan was the unassuming nursing home proprietress who had a curiously high number of fatalities occur in her house between 1907 and 1917. The majority of the deaths were found later to be caused by poisoning, and Archer-Gilligan was found guilty of multiple counts of murder. Her story would go on to inspire the play and Cary Grant film Arsenic And Old Lace.

EXCLUSIVE: Peter Facinelli‘s A7SLE Films has snapped up rights to true-story saga The Devil’s Rooming House, M. William Phelps’ chronicle of early 20th century murderess Amy Archer-Gilligan. Credited as America’s most prolific female serial killer, Archer-Gilligan ran a nursing home that played host to a curiously high number of fatalities between 1907 and 1917. Most of the deaths were found to be caused by poisoning, and bulk arsenic buyer “Sister Amy” was eventually found guilty of murder. (Her story later inspired Joseph Kesselring’s 1939 play Arsenic and Old Lace and its subsequent film adaptation starring Cary Grant.) The Devil’s Rooming House is the latest adaptation acquisition for Facinelli and A7SLE Films, who just finished production with FilmDistrict on The Last Word based on Frank Mancuso Jr.’s documentary of the same name. Facinelli’s Whitey Bulger event series, based on the book Street Soldier, is also in development. Facinelli, late of the Twilight Saga and Nurse Jackie, is currently recurring on Glee. A7SLE’s Rob DeFranco negotiated the deal with Matthew Valentinas for Phelps. Facinelli and DeFranco are repped by APA, Intellectual Artists Management and attorney Barry Littman.
FilmDistrict has come on to co-finance and release the true story horror pic, set to hit theaters in 2014. Based on actual events, The Last Word unfolds after a young Texas man is wrongfully convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun. Filming on the Boss Media and A7SLE Films production begins this summer from a script by Ben Ketai (Chosen). Boss Media’s Frank Mancuso Jr is producing with Eric Gores, Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco of A7SLE Films and FilmDistrict’s Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman.
