SUNDAY AM: This weekend's movie gross showed that Hollywood couldn't revive the slumping box office during spring break even though 30% of students are out of school. No. 1 is Sony Pictures's PG-rated based-on-a-true-story 21, which opened to a solid $8.6 million Friday and $9.6 million Saturday from 2,648 theaters. With Sunday estimates, that makes a better than expected $23.7M for the moderately budgeted pic (sources tell me it cost $35M). The casino card-counting caper suddenly came on strong tracking-wise these past two weeks to surprise everyone but the studio execs. A shocker was how weak the reviews were: only 22% positive among top critics on Rotten Tomatoes. But audiences craved the escapism. As a rival marketer gushed to me, "It is wish fulfilment in the truest sense of the phrase, this notion of a real person being able to beat the system, get the girl and live the life. The pic tapped into that really nicely." I'm told the audience was broad based, drawing from all 4 quadrants -- older and younger men and women, with 53% male and 47% female with 53% under the age of 25.
In its 3rd weekend in release, Fox's Horton Hears A Who! continued playing strong in 3,826 dates for $5.2 million Friday and $7.3 million thanks to Saturday kiddie matinees to surge well past the all-important $100 million mark. It's new cume is $117.2M after this weekend's extra $17.4M because there was little else at the cineplex aimed at tots.
In 3rd place is The Weinstein Co's Dimension/MGM spoof Superhero Movie which was a superdud. Despite playing wide in 2,960 venues, the newcomer finished Friday virtually stillborn with only $3.4 million and Saturday with $3.8 million. That meant a $9.5 million weekend which is 33% less than its studios were hoping and the experts were predicting. Frankly, it's unthinkable since this pic had a big 75% awareness equally divided among males and females. Gee, Bob Weinstein's Dimension banner used to be the best at making this genre of light satires when it was based at Disney. But maybe audiences are tired of seeing the same old shtick. However, some analysts astutely foresaw a problem with Superhero going after the same PG-13 audience as 21. A Superhero insider told me over the weekend: "We played young because of Drake Bell.
We were doing well during the day but fell off at night. 21 ended up with the audience we needed. It seems they got the teens and did better than expected with them."
No. 4 was Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns which scored $7.7M this weekend from 2,016 runs for Lionsgate starting its 2nd week in release. Its new cume is $32.8M. Two holdovers, Paramount's Drillbit Taylor (3,061 dates) and Fox's Shutter (2,756 plays) duked it out for 5th place. The Owen Wilson starrer from Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen won with a $5.8M weekend (and new $20.5M cume) while the horror flick finished 6th with a $5.3M weekend (and new $19.1M cume).
Friday's No. 7 Stop-Loss fell a spot to 8th after it opened to only $1.7 million Friday and Saturday from a limited 1,291 plays. It eked out a $4.5M weekend. Although the drama from MTV Films was the best-reviewed movie opening this weekend, Paramount wasn't expecting much because no Iraq war-themed movie has yet to perform at the box office. "It's not looking good," a studio source told me before the weekend. "No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It's a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that's unresolved yet. It's a shame because it's a good movie that's just ahead of its time."
Finishing out the Top 10: Warner Bros' 10,000 BC was #7 with a $4.8M weekend and still anemic new cume of $84.9M from 3,055 theaters; what a bad sign that, starting its 4th week in release, this expensive CGI-bloated pic still hasn't broken the $100M barrier. Disney's College Road Trip held onto 9th with $3.5M for its 4th weekend in release at 2,270 dates. And No. 10 was Lionsgate's The Bank Job, hanging in for a $2.8M weekend from 1,869 venues.

The reason no Iraq war movie has done well is because they have all been anti-American themed, with the exception of The Kingdom (which tried to be somewhat neutral).
Hollywood will never get it. The average American doesn’t think like they do. If they would make an Iraq war movie that was actually positive and showed a real American hero, it would do very well (assuming it was a well made movie of course) but that won’t happen. They can’t even imagine such things.
Maybe if Hollywood made an Iraq war movie that wasn’t so set on making the U.S. out to be the bad guy, America would go see it.
When will Hollywood reaslize that they are out-of-touch with the majority of America and making movies against a war most people support will flop. It isn’t rocket science. I would bet a great deal of money that a positive, pro-soldier, pro-America movie would make millions for them instead of these out-of-touch, anti-war, anti-America films.
I anticipate a string of excuses as to why it failed…but lets face facts…it failed because people don’t like a movie that insults or belittles their country, their president (Democrat controlled Congress has a lower approval rating), or the men and women that VOLUNTEER to defend it. Soldiers are not a combination of red-neck dunces from Texas and poor people that have no choice if they want to stay in this country. I quick survey would find that the vast mojority of soldiers (wait..this may stun some Hollywood Leftists) WANT to be soldiers!
Just pathetic…if that is how the people that make these movies feel…I am of the mind-set they they can take their attitude, policies and socialist mind-set and move to a place more fitting for them….maybe Venezuela….Maybe Cuba….it would be paradise for you guys!
A Soldier
Folks stop loss isnt being anti american.its a fact that our military is being pulled too thin. I know someone that had this happen to them and as a viet vet if I was told i had to go back to vietnam after my contractual obligation was up I would have headed to canada. either the COUNTRY has to support the war or get the troops the hell out of there. all americans MUST serve if this is a real war and or if america isnt behind it then bring them home for gods sake. and no I am not some hippie anti war nut. but this is becoming vietnam part 2. back the war which means backing the troops all the way or get them all the wya home. we cannot be for the war as a country then have a very select few fight it for us. this isnt WW2 in as much as the WW2 generation wants to beleive it and for those who have never served then you need to either put your money where your mouths are or admit this isnt a World Wide conflict and bring our troops home. We confess to supporting on one hand then do the absolute oposite with the other.
saw Stop-loss last night. excellent film. President Bush should be ashamed of himself.
Hollywood has just become an extentiion to the anti-american left.
I live next door to several veterans of the Iraq war who argue and fight about who had more fun while serving in the middle east and who is gonna re-enlist first. Maybe the general public would enjoy a war movie written by an actual soldier or even someone who has stepped foot in Iraq within the last 5 years. Movies made by clueless actors detached from the real world will never be taken seriously. Directors like Oliver Stone and Michael Moore had better pay attention.
Stop Loss did poorly because it is based on a lie. Anyone knows in the military the terms of service. You can and will be called back. Sometimes immediately even after being told otherwise.
No one tells you “You’ve been stoplossed”. That’s more Hollywood B.S.
Maybe if Hollywood made a movie where soldiers were not portrayed as victims or murderes or overall failures then people would go to see it.
Reality is a popular theme these days. Iraq War films that are anti-American to their core and based on non-reality will always do poorly.
Some people will always hate America and the military. They just won’t pay $10.
I’m burned out completely on any movie set in the screwed up middle east
Stop Loss is a loser because the rest of America is not as anti-America as Hollywood or B. Hussein Obama.
When will they learn that socilism destroys creativity and individual expression. Go to a socialist or communist country and see how grey, drab and lifeless they are – and how sad the people are. Wake up Hollywood
debra- stupid liberals should be ashamed of themselves, for being stupid and for being liberal, you stupid liberal.
There wasn’t much to the 21 advertising campaign. Just that horrible line “Don’t call me Dude.” What the hell does that have to do with anything.
I guess perhaps people have finally gotten tired of the spoof movie genre. Though that doesn’t explain Meet the Spartans doing very well for some inexcplicable reason. Another beef I have with movie commercials is the tired cliche of lines that utter profanity being stopped by another shocked character. Like in Superhero Movie, the Invisible Bitch line, cuts to another character being shocked. That’s perhaps the worst cliche in comedy commercials today. Which probably will never go away.
WHEN IS THE MEDIA AND HOLLYWOOD GOING TO FIGURE OUT THAT THE ONLY PEOPLE AGAINST THE WAR ON TERROR,ARE THE MEDIA AND HOLLYWOOD.MAKE ONE MOVIE SUPPORTING THE TROOPS AND IT WILL BE A BLOCKBUSTER.JOHN WAYNE IS ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE.
I think that Super Hero Movie would have done better if Epic Movie wasn’t such a flop.
The anti-American bias of Hollyweird elites will not sell outside the tiny cocoons of the two left coasts. It’s like the old AA saying, Hollywood keeps doing the same thing again and again with the same bad results.
Ideologues never learn.
With all the movie-goers staying home, Hollywood needs a “Stoploss” of it’s own.
The problem with Iraq themed movies is not that they are “anti-american” or “anti-military” but that they are not escapist. Everyone goes to see ‘21′ because it’s a fun fantasy and makes you feel good. If I want to be depressed about the state of the world, I’ll just stay home and watch the news.
The premise of Stop-Loss is that the military recruits are all stupid and don’t know what they signed on for.
The reverse is true…. and Hollywood is stupid.
The following is my favorite part of the article.
‘Paramount on behalf of MTV Films wasn’t expecting much because no Iraq war-themed movie has yet to perform at the box office’
This is the definition of LIBERALISM. FORCE YOUR VIEWS ON EVERYBODY ELSE.
They knew it wasn’t going to make money….but b/c the MESSAGE is so important….make the film anyway.
Typical Hollywood. I love how pill-popping, botox- injecting liberals think they need to educate the public about the war in Iraq.
How would they know? Can anybody name any modern actor/actress that has served in the military?
Hollywood sucks as bad as the movies it makes. They just don’t get it.
At the risk of sounding redundant, it would take real courage on behalf of Hollywood to make a balanced, dare I say – even positive Iraq war movie. As a Middle East doctoral student, I am floored by the disconnect between Hollywood/Media/Entertainment elites blind to the money potential for even a “balanced” movie about Iraq. Everyone else on the planet knows that Northern Iraq is growing by 10% per year since 2004 and the economic/financial players are scrambling to benefit from the Kurdish “Dubai” experience. As for here. No. There’s only negative reporting ad nauseum. Make a movie with some positives, based on the facts, and Hollywood will be awash in money…
Hollywood continues their slide into oblivion.
There are better video games, with better stories than any movie. And the video games aren’t trying to “educate” me with some PC message. Also, the box office numbers are grossly inaccurate, nor do they include advertising or promotions costs. The money lost by Hollywood at this point is staggering.
I don’t think they get that there is a total re-alignment in “media land” at the moment. Also, note to Hollywood, you make movies no one wants to watch.
The difference between today’s “war” movies, and those of generations past is that the “classics” give the audience something to cheer for…THE AMERICANS.
There was a sense of PRIDE in one’s county, and it’s mission…Halting oppression, tyranny, the spread of communism.
Today, you’ve got so many opinions regarding what the US role, as the last remaining superpower should be in the global theatre. Too many people are quick to laud the HUGO CHAVEZs of the world as “leaders” when in fact they are tyrants.
The KINGDOM was a fantastic movie because instead of trying to indoctrinate the audience with the producers political opinion, it laid out a storyline that led to an action sequence that had you on the edge of your seat cheering for the safe return of their comrade. It was ENTERTAINMENT not PROPOGANDA
“The reason no Iraq war movie has done well is because they have all been anti-American themed, with the exception of The Kingdom (which tried to be somewhat neutral).”
What do you people mean by such statements? If the movie weren’t factual it would do well?
Continuing to put forth that this is a good work seems more like a Doctor Seuss movie to me.
There is a difference between anti-American and honest.
I believe Vantage Point is doing pretty well, and is an Iraq-themed movie that doesn’t portray America as the real terrorists or soldiers as victims/murderers. Hmm…
Thanks Nikki for letting these non-liberal comments get posted.
Hollywood is so out of touch that they are teetering on self destruction. Not only is America against the culture corruption that Hollywood tries to mainstream but the anti-American attitude of their Iraq propaganda war films is sure to choke them. With the exception of the Hollywood creatures, Americans by and large love America. Want to make a blockbuster film on the Iraq war? Try focusing on the liberation of 25 million people form the oppression they’ve suffered for 30 years. This liberation made possible only because of the incredible US armed forces. Try portraying the remarkable progress and success of this endeavor. And yes, the Iraq war has been and continues to be an awesome and selfless accomplishment for our great country. Wake up Hollywood while you still have the chance.
We’re so bombarded by the media about the Iraq war that the last thing I want to do is take 2 hours out of my weekend to submit myself to more. And besides, I’m not dumb enough to believe that Hollywood can come close to the truth of any story.
I have a great title for a new Hollywood Iraq war based Film:
1) “Dead Failures”
A movie about news reporting on soldiers. The news editing board room is a place where the only soldier that makes news is a soldier that dies or “screws up”.
2) “Mission Not-Accomplished”
A movie about how soldiers where given a mission in Iraq and succeeded with less casualties than any other war ever, but people who pretend to care about them call their mission a failure because they hate President Bush.
3) “Hopeless Poor Moron”
A movie about how the only people willing to join the military are uneducated near homeless people desperate to make ends meet.
Overall, Hollywood is Dr. Evil:
“Why make billions, when you can make … millions?”
The Hollywood idiots did it again. He would want to go see a movie about the alleged army imperfections? I would rather see a movie of how we kicked bottom and took names in our ‘SHock and Awe’ campaign. Talk about a thriller. I mean seriously who did the producers think would come see this movie? The only anti-military people is Hollywood and the media left. A minority of people.
All you have to do is hang out at a few Hollywood parties as I have and listen to the ill-informed ranting and bizarre histrionics to understand where this stuff comes from. It’s really sad considering the amazing things that have really taken place, and the fact that both Clintons, and all the leading Dems also urged military action against Iraq throughout the late 90’s. Which culminated in Bill Clinton unilaterally dropping over 4000 smart bombs and cruise missles on Iraq from 1998-2000. But of course there will be no movie about that.
Ah, I see this post was linked from Drudge because all the crazy right-wingers are posting here, desperate to defend the America they don’t have the actual courage to fight for..
Gary, please call you history teacher and set up a meeting to punch them in the face! Not every American supported WWII, http://www.alba-valb.org/volpdf/vol_1941_02b.pdf, search “antiwar + WW2″, learn before you flap you fat face. Any soldier should read their “contract” you are property of the government for up to 10 years after your active duty! They can call you back to serve at any point. We are a VOLUTEER FORCE if you want to join and get the benefits, you have to pay the price, even if you do not agree. When you sign the line you are a soldier, either accept it or do not sign! This movie is a whinner’s excuse for “I served, leave me alone.” This movie is trying to pull strings that are not there, if America dislikes this war so much, why only 1.6M? Spong Bob pulled bigger numbers in the first hour! I agree with Matt, let a real movie be made by someone with experience and that movie would rival “Saving Private Ryan” – oops another SUCCESSFUL movie showing Americans kicking the shit out of the enemy. I am sorry I forgot, non of this fits the template that America is the enemy, at least for the consumers of these movies and thoughts.
“Try having a “peace” talk with someone who’s only goal in life is your death”
Anti-American films by psuedo-americans is a waste of time and money… Just move away… move to North Korea, or China, or france, or venezuela, cuba… just go away. It amazes me that hollywood bites the hand that feeds it.
Speaking as an ex-soldier from the volunteer era (and, sorry, Vietnam vets, but your views on how soldiers see things don’t realy mean much since the draft ended), I can tell you that anybody who refuses to fight when the war comes up or refuses to go back when your buddies are still out there, is pretty much a piece of crap. You don’t leave your buddies hanging, no matter how much what you have to do sucks.
Hollyweird is still in business? Couldn’t prove it by me.
They haven’t made a movie that interests me in 30 years. They even ruined The Simpsons Movie for me by making it a loony-left political statement.
make a positive movie about our soldier and our country, i will go see it. make a bs anitamerican, anti US soldier I will shove it down the toilet.
So many positive things have happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, and yet Hollywood, the media, and politicians focus more on the death tolls, and anything about bashing Bush… We’re kicking butt out there! How about a movie that tells the truth about the Army exceeding re-enlistment goals for the past two years and since the surge began? It will be a cold day in Hell before the spoiled, politically biased, Hollywood elitists release that flick. So much for patriotism. Hollywood and the nuts who believe everything Hollywood spews need to get a clue.
Hollywood is infested with self-loathing America haters. The miracle is how they keep finding investors for this kind of crap. I happily remind them that they can offset taxable income with the losses incurred with this bomb.
From the Washington Post this week:
A spate of Iraq-themed movies and TV shows haven’t just failed at the box office. They’ve usually failed spectacularly, despite big stars, big budgets and serious intentions.
The underwhelming reception from the public raises a question: Are audiences turned off by the war, or are they simply voting against the way filmmakers have depicted it?
It would require a movie depicting the heroism and nobility of the mission in Afghanistan and Iraq to get a real answer to that question, and none have been made. The story focuses on the half-dozen anti-war films that have been spectacular box office flops. Only Hollywood couldn’t figure this out.
I wonder if the average person has noticed that lately there isn’t too much being reported from Irag or Afghanistan as far as combat operations goes. Remember what the biggest story in the past 2 or 3 weeks was? Our 4000th Hero was killed in Iraq. Not how much violence is down from the day combat started, or the Iraqi population just wants to get on with their lives and get the country working, or almost anything positive. Nope. Just that we hit the magic number 4000 within the Iraq or Afghanistan border so everything has been a waste. The next day, the Boston Globe had a half-page illustration of 4000 stick figures arranged in the shape of 4 coffins. The left claims to care about our Heroes so much that they have to come home, but with that picture, they reduced every single damn one of them to a statistic. Congratulations Boston Globe. Sorry to rant, but it makes me ill.
Perhaps the fascist-left of Hollywierd will eventually get the message, although unlikely considering how pampered, overpaid and hypocritical they are. Farewell, LEft Coast.
Looks like there are a lot of people who feel like myself. I have no desire to see any of the trash Hollywood puts out. These smug individuals who prance around in their fancy clothes honoring themselves with oscars while we have REAL hero’s fighing and dying for us every day make me sick.
If Hollywood had any courage, they’d make a movie about the nonstop daily violence caused by Muslim Terrosit. Now that would sell!
The reason no Iraq war movie has done well is because they have all been anti-American themed,
If they would make an Iraq war movie that was actually positive and showed a real American hero, it would do very well.
Maybe if Hollywood made an Iraq war movie that wasn’t so set on making the U.S. out to be the bad guy, America would go see it.

Maybe if Hollywood made a movie where soldiers were not portrayed as victims or murderes or overall failures then people would go to see it.
MAKE ONE MOVIE SUPPORTING THE TROOPS AND IT WILL BE A BLOCKBUSTER.
I agree with all the above comments. Nikki, does anbody in Hollywood read your columns, and the responses?
Hey NSR, I served six years in the Armed Forces. What did YOU do for your country?
1/ Hollywood has no idea how the rest of america feels on this issue.
2/ Stop loss is spelled out quite clearly in the contract you first sign. It is in there for a reason. We can’t have half a unit going home in the middle of a battle or we will lose that battle. DUH.
3/ I have been in since 1992 so don’t tell me to enlist.
4/ I assume all the liberals who call conservatives “chickenhawks” will all join the second bush is out? No? didn’t think so so that makes your “chickenhawk” argument weak and cowardly at best.
Hey Gary, did you forget about how we got into the WWII in the first place? Let’s see we only went to war back in WWII because they bombed Pearl Harbor. Back then we waited to long. Well this time they bombed the World Trade Center and killed innocent civilians. Look at the pictures. Everyone should go back and see those. We went in and Saddam is dead and so are his sons “ooday” and “koosay”. I feel we won. We are helping to rebuild and it is working. WE are in it to win it. BTW you said all Americans should serve, how about you going to the recruiting center and signing on the dotted line? Have you served? Well I am proud of my two sons who have served and I know the real story that the media is not telling you. Our soldiers are doing a great job. Thank you to all who have given up their first class seats for my sons when they came home. We can’t go into a country for a little while and then leave. What does that say to the rest of the world? Let’s all get on board and finish this. If we stick together we can accomplish a lot.
John Wayne is rolling over in his grave now with the “war” movies Hollywood is producing now and if he was still I alive I bet he we punch all these idiots in Hollywood the mouth. If Hollywood ever decided to make a John Wayne type of movie about the war and America then they would have a box office hit, not the flops on all the ones they have now. Hollywood just don’t get it.
NSR,
Stop loss is playing in 20 minutes.
Don’t forget to scratch off a ‘Support the Troops” bumper sticker off a military mom’s car on the way to the bus.
Let’s jsut have the active duty service men and women, and all war veterans get to vote this year.
Since they are impacted the most by war, they should be the only one’s getting to decide who will lead them.
Then again, you would not want me getting to vote while you have to stay home.
When will Hollywood realize that it is and has become
irrelevant to middle America. That they have squandered most of the goodwill they had built up over the years by actors who could act and all the mystic is gone.
Perhaps if you made better movies and were more in tune with America I just might go see a movie.
“No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet. It’s a shame because it’s a good movie that’s just ahead of its time.”
Perhaps when they stop with their antiwar propaganda people will go see an Iraq war movie. It is amazing that this studio source doesn’t get it. It is amazing that Hollywood keeps repackaging this antiwar crap when they keep losing money.
This comment is total bs: “I live next door to several veterans of the Iraq war who argue and fight about who had more fun while serving in the middle east and who is gonna re-enlist first.” Nobody who fights in a war enjoys war. Tell the 4,005 dead, 29,314 wounded, and countless others with PTSD how much fun it was. And the reason why people don’t go to Iraq war movies is because they don’t care. AS LONG AS POOR PEOPLE WHO THEY DO NOT KNOW ARE THE ONLY ONES DYING IN IRAQ, AMERICANS WILL NOT CARE! The war in Iraq is an absolute wrong for which there are only 2 cures: electing a Democratic President to end it, or instituting a draft – if the selfish American people, including the hawkish posters on this board, were told on Monday a draft was going to be held on Friday the war would be over on Wednesday. The Vietnam war ended because regular American people were forced to participate in it. Also because those who got to stay home were forced to watch the horror nightly, with all 3 of the only 3 TV networks bombarding people with coverage. Finally, everybody had somebody they knew and loved fighting over there, a son, a father, a brother, a friend. The Bush administration learned this lesson well and cleverly removed those obstacles, by limiting media coverage and only using volunteers, choosing to stretch them dangerously thin and call them up for multiple tours, rather than fortifying their ranks with civillian conscripts, which they knew would be political suicide. They are relying on the American people’s apathy toward the over-extended soldiers’ plight, and the current generation of Americans, obsessed only with their own self interest and having no sense of civic duty, is only to happy to oblige by them. Support the war in two ways: join the military or lobby to end the war. Otherwise, shut up.
I think that most of the people who are saying that bth emovie is anti American may not have seen the same movie that I did.
Hollyweird lives in their little bubble. Bunch of mega libs, marxists, and communists.
I just respond by not seeing movies anymore—-and I used to see lots and lots of ‘em——don’t watch anything about them either. “Left” is blind”—-the left cannot see how left it is and it’s up to the rest of us not to go their way. This country wasn’t made by leftist ideology!
from bob “Support the war in two ways: join the military or lobby to end the war. Otherwise, shut up.”
So much for freedom of speech. Must be a liberal thing. I am guessing you will join the second bush is out?
I just read a review in Which Ryan Phillippe, or whatever that cheated goofs name is, talked about how bad the war, how he wants it to end, how illegitimate it was, and the reviewer equated his call to service ina film with that of a soldier. Are you freakin’ nuts???? The movie was shot in Morocco, and they broke into muslims homes on holidays to pretend it was Iraq. Gee,that is really helping the US image. Maybe Hollywood should realize they are the problem, and their stupid, condescending, middle America mocking films do not help. How incredibly out of touch can they be? Stop Loss has been pushed by every major newspaper as a good movie to try to work their anti-troop message into our lives. The American people are smarter than your typical liberal.
STOP LOSS??? What’s new about that? In early 1950s all enlistments were involuntarily extended 1 year due to requirements of the Korean War. This was lessened in 1952 and my elistment was over August 16th and I was discharged in November 1952. What a bunch of cry-babies.
These anti American Iraq movies are so unappealing but they keep making them. I guess Hollywood doesn’t mind losing money if it is furthering the right agenda.
Well it looks like the freepers have been hard at work.
All of you whiners claiming this movie is ‘anti-American’ have any of you seen it?
Any of you? Or are you just going by what you heard on talk radio?
Thats what I thought.
None of you would know what ‘anti-American’ REALLY is because none of you can think for yourselves anymore.
Hollywood is brain dead. They put ideology ahead of story. You can tell that they maneuvered to make sure that George Clooney (Rosemary’s Baby) got nominations and was rewarded for his anti American, anti Middle East war efforts. They did not dare nominate him for one of those films. To bolster him, they nominated him for that awful “Clayton” movie when a film like “American Gangster” was ten times superior and nearly un-nominated. I agree that the failure of these films is NOT due to being tired of the Iraq War. It is due to the fact that these films work against the efforts of our country. They have chosen to subvert and undercut and de-legitimize the War effort and our soldiers, even to the point of “criminalizing” them. At worst, Hollywood consciously sides with the bombers; perhaps believing, like Reverend Wright or Obama’s wife, that we had it coming. One irony is that what outrages Islamist Fundamentalists about us is what they consider the sewage we export into Internet and cinemas of the world….all of it coming from Hollywood, its film and its Porn industry. But, ohhhh nooo… none of it on their hands. “Bush Lied” answers it all for them. Hollywood and its Left Ideological stars have slipped for ham handedly dealing turning their craft into brain dead opposition to their own country. And, because they want to be “Activist Lite,” they pull down their fellow actors by seemingly making them feel they must “speak out”…speak “truth to Power” or some such nonsense. Pretty faces mouthing barely understood opinions strikes Flyover America as obnoxious. They don’t understand that their efforts to subvert our soldiers and their efforts in the Middle East and elsewhere turns off the ticket buyers. I, for example, will never attend a George Clooney movie because I see my dollar spent on him as a vote for his ideology and behavior. I don’t want him, Hollywood or the World to think that.
More evidence that the HoWood types can’t make a logical argument is provided by NSR (AKA No Sane Reasoning). Military personnel, who apparently have the “actual courage to fight” for their country can be counted on to do 2 things:
1. They refuse to buy tickets to see their country and themselves insulted.
2. They overwhelmingly vote the way that “crazy rightwingers” vote. Why do you think Gore didn’t want the military overseas vote counted?
Keep it up, HoHoes. Your delusions will keep you going even if the money doesn’t.
I know someone that had this happen to them and as a viet vet if I was told i had to go back to vietnam after my contractual obligation was up I would have headed to canada.
******************************************************
So you’d desert? Let me guess, you’re a liberal? Gee, how did I know that? The only people who turn tail and run when asked to actually put themselves in harms way for this wonderful country. one that has given us so much, are the punks that joined for the benefits only. Free college money is fine to take from the government but when you have to live up to YOUR OBLIGATIONS, well it’s a different story.
You people are such pathetic losers. If we had your kind in America in the early 1940’s we would all be speaking Japanese and German today.
Wow, I’m stunned by the number of hardcore right wing freakouts on a website devoted to “liberal Hollywood”. Perhaps you would’ve liked the movie (or gone to see it) if it starred Chuck Norris. Maybe he and Huckabee and Rambo could’ve gone in and cleaned that sucker up. You want a controversial statement: I think the reason Americans don’t go to movies about Iraq is because it is the equivalent of asking the neighboring Germans to admit something smelled bad in that camp down the railway tracks. After the Second World War, American soldiers forced those Germans to see what had been done in their name. Maybe someday, someone will do that to you.
Interesting comments… I don’t think Hollywood is out of touch – they just happen to be ahead of many of you. The millions of Democrats that are so engaged during this election (go Obama!!!) are very much the audience for this film. In particular it will appeal to the more educated segment of the U.S. – not all are capable of seeing any faults with their own country as it involves a little more self confidence and a familiarity to conduct a little research (a handy little skill you pick up in college). The movie will do great in the long run.
Don’t dumb down movies to appeal to the idiotic masses – that’s what there are movies like Die Hard or Saw 5.
Hollywood is doing everything they can along with the liberals in Washington to lose this war. Nothing would make them happier than America losing in Iraq. It is the same people who did everything they could to lose the Vietnam war. This time though, they realize they can’t spit on soldiers anymore or throw dog shit at them. So they have to be more subtle and insidious by cloaking their defeatism in the “We love the soldiers, but we hate the war” bs. In truth, just like Vietnam. They hate both.
While I didn’t vote for Bush in ‘04, I chuckle at informing the Bush-Haters that George W. Bush is a beloved figure (yes you heard me) in the Kurdish North and even by many Shia intellectuals (Sunni Arabs in Iraq hold mixed opinions of GWB). As for the Shias in Basrah, that’s a different story. Farsi (Persian) is now the language of choice in most transactions in Basrah, at least the last time I was there (fall 2007); meaning, the Iranians are an ever present influence.
Given all this, media/entertainment elites are either so lazy when it comes to fact checking or they are intellectually so dishonest, either way, the public is understandably wary of yet another Iraq War movie, particularly one with narrow, pejorative title as “Stop Loss”.
Hooray – thanks to those people expressing the opinion that Hollywood just doesn’t get it etc. I get so tired of hearing about what the “Hallowed Hollywood” types think about this or that. They don’t live in the real world. My gratitude to those in the military, they are the “real world”. I agree – make a movie that makes America look good (which it is), show us an American soldier doing what they do every day – making decisions for the betterment of their fellow man – and make him good-looking! It would be a hit! My favorite part of Transformers was the beginning with all those soldiers! That’s what Americans want to see their soldiers doing on screen – being strong and in control – not wimpy and whiney! But they just can’t bring themselves to do it because they are so far to the left it’s sickening. As an American I am ashamed of their lack of support for those that keep them safe and allow them to have their precious “freedom of expression” – the soldiers and the politicians that make the hard and unpopular decisions.
Hollywood, wake up — you’re not in the mainstream. Hell, you’re not even from this planet.
Americans want heroes on the silver screen. Americans think their military are heroes — cause, well, cause THEY ARE!
You are out of touch with Main Street, the farm and the ranch. You are involved in a circle jerk, it’s a little circle and it’s only all of ya’ll in it.
Grow up, Hollywood, and try, try, try to get revelant.
Watch this video called “How Modern Liberals Think” and you will see why Hollywood keeps making movies that are anti-American.
This video is very good. It’s by a guy named Evan Sayet, who used to write for Bill Maher. You will need some quiet time. Make sure you watch the Q&A at the end too. If you want to understand Modern Liberals, watch this!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c
“It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet.” No. Hollywood is just so out of touch with America it’s laughable. We would watch an Iraq movie if it didn’t make US out to the be terrorists.
If Hollywood would just go back to making PROPAGANDA about how GREAT WAR IS, we could finally go back to loving AMERICA, the MOVIES, and BABY JESUS. I can’t wait for Rambo!!!!!!
Hollywood only backed America in one war: WWII. Why?
Because Hitler violated the “Non-Aggression-Pact” with Russia. Prior to that event, the general sentiment in Hollywood was anti-war, as usual. As soon as Russia was attacked, Stalin’s Hollywood sycophants jumped to his aid.
I don’t believe in censorship or blacklists, but fortunately, Americans seem to be able to filter out the garbage by their own free will (at least until the liberals find a way to regulate our choice of movies).
hepwa, so now americans are nazis? Got to love those liberal sterotypes.
To the guy who said anyone linking from the Drudgereport is a rightwing moron (or words to that affect)
Dude? When was the last time you ACTUALLY read Drudge?
It is a news AGGREGATE, it carries stories of ALL political slants except for hard Left (MoveOn) and hard Right (NewsMax).
TRY to be a little more OPEN MINDED.
Liberals: The most INTOLERANT people out there>
?Make a movie that actually shows American soldiers like the heroes they are I will go see it. Otherwise, take your anti American crap and shove it!
Wow. Thirty four comments so far and only three from dirty liberals. I love you guys. We were only called right-wingers once. This movie did poorly because we are tired of being told how to think and what to feel about this war. After 9-11, eight of the nineteen people in my class joined some branch of the service. We were juniors then and we all took our ASVABS that very day. I was so proud of my classmates. Not one of them had a low IQ, most of them were honors students, and all but one re-upped after they were finished. Come on people lets get with the program, Hollywood, the media and the Left are completely out of touch.
Hello fake servicemen and women,
The majority of real military service people have disapproved of the handling of the Iraq war since 2006.

I haven’t seen Stop loss I was going to go tonight. You all have seemed to taken it as a political walk. Well then lets tell the truth. I have a child in the military. Yes it is volunteer. Yes there is a contract. But what you all are ignorant of is the fact that contract has been thrown out the window and the the President of these United States have changed every soldiers contract. So unless you are there and have a contract don’t assume you know what you are talking about. Yes we should be very thankful for these young men and women who sacrifice and give everything for this country something alot of people will never know anything about. So how do we repay them we lie to them we throw out thier contract and say oh you are only supposed to have to be hear a year to bad try 15 months oh 15 months naw try 18 months yes this is going on every day so when John MCgain says they are streched thin not because they volunteered to be stretched thin. Some have babies they won’t see until they are 2. But don’t worry we know the VA will be there to help with mental health issues to put the families back together. The VA couldn’t handle the load before this mess what do you think is going to happen to the soldiers when they finally do come home. Yeah we thought this would never happen again it did right under our noses and the worsepart of it is people like John Mcgain and John Kerry and Bob Kerry let it happen. Shame on them.
Maybe when some of the Stop loss soldiers finally do get home you all can interview them see how they felt about it. Sad thing is these men and women won’t complain because they are soldiers they are not about politics they just take all the crap that is loaded on them even if they are being screwed by the commander and Chief that sent them
Hepwa, please take some time and watch this video “How Modern Liberals Think”:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c
All of it please…it explains Modern Liberals to a tee.
Stop-Loss is based on a lie. When you enlist, you are signing for an 8 year obligation. I was in the first gulf war and soldiers who recently left the service were re-activated just in case they were needed. When you enlisted, this is explained to you. Officers can be recalled at ANY time if their skills are needed.
I’m so tired of Hollywood making our troops out to be either ignorant, victims, or murderers. Support our troops and don’t see any of these Hollywood pieces of trash!
i guess hollywood doesnt read or care about what their
audience thinks. the vast majority of these posts are telling them what they want and why their iraq movies fail….but they keep marching on with their anti-American, anti-military agenda. wake up hollywood!!!
Stop loss is just another cynical hollywood attempt to shove their anti-American, anti-military political opinions down the throats of the public in the guise of entertainment. I served in Iraq and am proud of it, and will go back if called.
I think i will go see stop loss, as a solider getting ready for tour two, i need to do my best to support the economy, some people in Hollywood made a bad product that hates America again and i think that some latte drinking pole smokers will be kicked out of there house and as a soldier i can sacrifice a little more. I see that a “Viet Vet” POSTS he would go to Canada if he had to do a second tour and i respect your service, we needed pak clerks and cooks back then and that is why we get tcn’s to do those jobs today, Hey Viet Vet i know that as a soft skill you saw some things, like a guy cut his hand on some c-rats when his P-38 broke but let the young and the bold fight this war, Lead Follow or go to Canada.
congrats Hollywood on making a product no one will see and havening my taxes raised to bail you out of your ARM when you finally get fired.
When you are stop lossed, you are stop lossed till the end of the mission, not forever. Don’t believe the liberal lies. And buckets, I don’t agree with the way things have gone in Iraq, I would have done things far differently, but admiting defeat and running away is not the way I would go.The us troops you are talking about want VICTORY not a shamefull retreat when they have not been defeated in the field.
It’s already been mentioned that average
Americans don’t buy into Hollywood’s political
aims masquerading as entertainment. There are thousands of positive stories that have occurred in Iraq since
we’ve been involved there. What’s the problem with telling them? Many actors seem to have a need to place real “meaning” on what is essentially nothing more than the art of pretension {movies}.
Hollywood’s movies are losing money for the same reason newspaper circulation is down and revenue has dropped like a rock. They are Anti-Soldier, Anti-American and generally negative.
Hollywood is indeed out of touch with middle-class America, but the Hollywood Liberal Elites are too prejudiced to notice who their target market is.
What middle-class America thinks and what they pay money to see will make or break a movie – not what the minority of Liberal Elites think.
There is money to be made – but not by making the movies with the same tired old theme = America is the bad guy.
Hollywood is fantasy. We live in the real world, we go to the movies to escape from the real world for a couple of hours. Oh, Hollywood get’s it, but they don’t care. It is chock full of Liberals who will try to influence the masses even if it means a financial loss. They have proved it time and time again. That’s why I NEVER go to the movies anymore.
It may come as a shock to people like the poster “hepwa”, but being conservative doesn’t mean that you like Rambo movies. Admittedly, the few Hollywood actors that come out as conservatives are usually pretty lame, but it does not follow that, because there are no A-list conservative actor, conservatives only like B-list actors. There are a number of factors that go into the fact that Hollywood is dominated by the left, not the least of which is that acting is not the most RESPONSIBLE career choice. Actors who make it are treated like spoiled babies, so of course they are liberals.
It should also be noted that Democrats do make up about half the country, but even they aren’t going to see these movies.
Another anti-America flick bombs, who wudda guessed?
If Hollywood could somehow come up with a movie that
has our rotten military causing Global Warming I think they would be on to something.
A toast to all of you that have commented on how out of touch Hollywierd is…..they come off as so smart in the movies but most are morons who haven’t got a clue.
To those like Debra….forget about the blame Bush BS…its old and only lib-tards are buying it anymore. If you want to see what we are fighting against….watch this short film by the Dutch filmmaker that is now under a death threat by those of the so-called “peaceful” religion…….
http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=69293
The failure of the American educations system never ceases to amaze me. Reading posts by people such as “hepwa” highlight what happens when you cede the campus to the far left. Their dedication to situation ethics seems to require them to deny and avoid any logical sense of right and wrong. It appears that the only way that these anti-American egotists can live with themselves, in their perverted world, is to denigrate those people who think that it is noble to risk their lives for the sake of others. I would ask “how do you even get up in the morning?”, but I guess you have to walk to your stash to get high enough to last through another day.
Where’s Mel Gibson?? We need an Iraq war movie that’s a cross between Fitna and They Were Solders.
Did anybody read the explanation given by one MTV Film’s execs as to why the movie has done poorly? “It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way…it’s a good movie that’s just ahead of its time.” Truly, these people are out of touch with mainstream America. Anytime you see “MTV Films” associated with a movie, you can rest assured that it’ll be a piece of crap. They don’t get it and they never will, which is fine by me.
I agree with most posting here–if I am going to pay $10 (!!!!) to see a movie, I don’t want it to be Hollywood hitting me over the head with how bad our government, country and military are. We have an all volunteer military, and a large percentage of the veterans from the Iraq War WANT to go back. What does Hollywood say about this? Ask and you will hear crickets.
Make a film about those who volunteer, sacrifice and are proud to have done so. Foreign concepts to the Hollywood Liberals no doubt, but I can guarantee it would be a winner.
The reason people don’t want to see the movie is evident in the comments on this board. Without even knowing about what’s in the film, people jump on it for being “Anti-American.” Yes, one can get “stop-lossed.” And if you think everything’s hunky-dory in Iraq, think again: How are we going to sustain 2 wars with no draft? If there was a draft, I guarantee the tone of the posts above would have been different. The reason the movie’s not doing well is because Americans aren’t ready to face the truth about the war in Iraq. Just wait a few years and see how this thing really went down. I hope we can salvage a positive outcome, but it’s going to come at a cost most Americans don’t want to deal with. Don’t blame “liberals” for our poor tactics.
Maybe if a movie that dealt with terrorism had the villains reflect the origins of most of the terrorists at work today: Arab Muslims. Oh my god, we can’t reflect reality. In “Live Free or Die Hard”? White, disgruntled, American computer consultant. “The Bourne Identity”? Evil, soulless, American killing machine. The last movie to show maniacal Muslim extremists bent on the destruction of the West and Democracy was “True Lies”, and that was made in 1994. I seriously doubt any of the dickless Hollywood America haters would have the balls to make it today.
I am a 22 year military retiree with an active duty wife, and a son starting his second tour in Iraq, I can tell you that I appreciate this thread. I still have my original enlistment contract and it clearly states in black and white, “four years active duty and four years in the inactive reserves”. That was an eight year commitment that I used one hand to sign and the other to raise in the air when I repeated the oath of enlistment ending with “so help me God”. My 40 year old wife and my 21 year old Marine son tell me that their contracts were the same. Dictionary.com states that the military reserve is “a fraction of a military force held in readiness to sustain the attack or defense made by the rest of the force” . My point is this: The United States has no draft nor compulsory services like many other countries do. Whether you join the military because you want to defend your country, because you couldn’t get into any colleges due to grades or lack of funds, because you wanted to see the world, or because your girlfriend dumped you (guilty), you join with your own free will. You voluntarily make a commitment and you then sign a legal written contract holding you to your commitment. As for STOP LOSS, I haven’t seen it nor do I intend to. To my personal satisfaction, and like its preceding recent anti-war genre, this film is tanking at the box office.
To everyone who has been saying that Stop Loss is just some Hollywood creation, you should know that the writer’s brother served in Iraq, and this happened to him…
Whether Stop Loss makes a good point or not, one thing is clear, America does not trust the Hollywood Left to make it.
And Debra, the article already said that at least one person saw it. Maybe the Clintons should be ashamed of themselves for gutting the Military? Naww.
I never see ANY Hollywood movies except for the animations (where I don’t have to see the faces of stinking left-wing trash actors) or the comic book movies (which actually have heroes). Hollywood is a rotten cesspool of liberty haters, desperate for al Qaeda and Iran to win in Iraq, just like the rest of the Democrats. Their proudest accomplishment was intentionally losing the Vietnam war. 5 million murdered as a result, and that beautiful country still in slavery. The left is the moral trash of the universe.
People are so depressed about the war in Iraq that the don’t want to be
reminded of it.
70% of the American people are against it . The same as the people in the the military and their families.
An American action hero in the middle east is as much a fantasy as Batman.
Talk about wallowing in ignorance…”No matter what we put out there”?
“No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off.”
I can’t believe what I’m reading here. I really didn’t know that after all the information on torture, civil fighting, and military-to-soldier abuses that people could still whole-heartedly support the war and believe that we are doing well there. It’s a matter of total blindness–go read a newspaper or do some academic searching. And these arguments over ‘left’ and ‘right’–what are we, back in the McCarthy era? Oh no, those commies in Hollywood! Watch out! Having a skeptical view of what America is doing in Iraq and the Middle East isn’t wrong, it’s the kind of free thought that our forefathers encouraged.
Oh well… I guess fighting to protect freedom and freedom of speech also means protecting bias, anti-American Spin-Nazi propagandists who don’t have a clue about how good they really have it compared to the rest of the world.
Tell the millions of Afghan children who finally received an education after the Taliban was defeated that helping them was wrong, or tell those Iraqi families that we were wrong for overthrowing Saddam who gassed hundreds of thousands of the loved ones. I guess my duty in Iraq meant nothing. Hollywood instead tries to make money off of all the negative aspects of this war instead of honoring what we have actually accomplished in Iraq and Afghanistan. By the way, I’m not poor, nor am I a “red neck”. I’m not ashamed to say that I recognize how good we have it, and love my country enough to proudly serve in the military.
Garbage in garbage out. My only complaint is that people go see their other movies that allows them the profit margin to produce this socialist crap. Oops. Shouldn’t mention that word “profit” here either. That’s another capitalist no-no to the whacko left.
Let them do a movie about how 114 of the 117 hotspots currently going on in the world involve Muslims and see how that sells. Hey Hollywood, The Truth Will Set You Free!
All Americans have done during it’s existence is try to help people. We are not always perfect but by God we try. Ask the President of Africa who just said that President Bush doesn’t get 1 tenth of the credit for solving Aids in his country that Clinton did yet he has done 10 times as much.
The mainstream media and hollywood can kiss my fiscally conservative behind while they go broke!
Interesting side note, the largest anti-war protest and march in the history of the world happened just before World War II in London and we all remember how that turned out. Well, the people with the clarity to see a real threat, once again saved all those ostrich’s who couldn’t.
As a Soldier (Master Sergeant) who has served two tours in Iraq and is on tap for a third I think I have the experience and moral authority to weigh in on this.
1- Yes, we use the phrase – “You’ve been stoplossed.”
2- Folks get stoplossed past the initial 8 year obligation. We had folks called back from retirement terminal leave to deploy for what ended up being a 15 month tour.
3- Soldiers on the ground want to win and want to serve, but there is a hell of a lot of angst over being stoplossed. Just as there was a lot of anger over the extension.
4- No one on high has given the Soldiers on the ground an endstate to work towards so each time we go its like we are starting from scratch.
5- The surge worked on the tactical level, street violence is down, but it is not yet working on the strategic level for the Govt of Iraq is not really interested in reconciliation.
6- This is a war unlike any other, even the Band of Brothers in WWII fought for less than a year and received numerous months off the line for rest and refit. Soldiers today go 15 months straight in a COP with only a two week leave. In Vietnam most Soldiers only did one twelve month tour, not multiple tours.
7- The rational for this war changes on a daily basis as George tries to change history to reflect the reality that there were no WMDs and there was no link to al-Qaeda. This constant changing leaves us on the ground wondering when the mission will be complete.
Bob said, “Hollywood has just become an extentiion to the anti-american left.”
Where’ve you been, Bob? Hollywood has been part of the anti-America left for many, many years.
Does anyone notice the decline of news papers corresponding with the decline of Holyweird? Both with an extreme leftist agenda they can’t force to enlightended Americans anymore. Coincidence? I think not!
Hepwa:
I think conservatives have some kind of twisted logic.
I think we invaded Irag to tell the worlds islamic terrorists that if they set off a nuke in Hollywood or any other liberal perverted city of ours, no matter how disdainful the I-fascists find it, we would destroy their world and then bring the few remaining to the Hollywood “Bowl” – to rub their noses in it.
Watch out for conservatives that have logic as twisted as a liberals.
Bob…..what do you mean by “As long as poor people who they do not know are the only ones dying in the war in Iraq, Americans will not care??” I have never commented before, but I felt I must for this. My husband has been a tanker for 18 years in the Army, and believe me, I care much more than you! The only difference is, we actually know what is going on there because he has been there many times and sees the success that he and his fellow soldiers are accomplishing. I am VERY proud of him and do not consider him to be a “poor soldier.” We do not make a lot of money and could have definitely made a lot more out in the civilian world, but we actually care about our nation remaining free and safe for our children. My husband is my hero….and so are all the other brave men and women fighting this war…instead of like you being a coward and shooting off your mouth to things you don’t know. I guess the saying “Ignorance is Bliss” is talking about you.
Debra exmplifies Hollywood’s theme that “President Bush should be ashamed of himself.” This is the exact reason Hollywood gets it wrong. It’s not a question of the movie being ahead of it’s time; Americans don’t want to see an anti-American movie no matter how unpopular Bush or the war may be in the polls. The fringe who wants to place blame for everything in the world that is wrong squarely on the shoulders of our nation will never trumph those who still believe and love the dream we live in.
If you want to make a war movie, try making one about the Lone Survivor book written by Marcus Luttrell a real American Hero – not some useful Hollywood idiot that panders to the kook fringe on the left.
I didn’t know anything about Stop-Loss until reading this review, but reading through the comments, I will DEFINITELY go spend some money on this, if nothing more than to piss off the Neanderthal nutty right-wingers leaving comments on this review.
If you think you’re not living in a socialist country as it is, you’re misled. The recent huge injection of $$ by the Fed to bail out Wall Street is recent proof.
Wow…good comments…could not agree more.
Hollywood is so obessed with anti-american and socialistic themes these days it makes me sad.
Tell the truth!
Black Hawk Down was an excellent movie. Showed us getting our asses kicked…but at least it was the truth and at least it showed America in a positive and noble sense.
My 23 year old daughter just got back from a deployment in Baghdad. She volunteered to go and would volunteer to go back. She will not be “Stop lossed”. She has served this country proudly and I am the proudest dad in the country. The nut jobs in Hollywood are just out to impress each other with their liberal views. I hope they make a hundred more of these movies that no one will see. Serves them right to lose all that money. I agree though, make a pro American. pro solder movie and they would have people lined up around the theaters waiting to see it. I find it interesting, if the Taliban was running this country, the liberals would be the first to lose their heads. Think about it. The rest of the world thinks that American society is what they see in our movies. They think that we are all drug crazed, sex fiends who all carry guns. When was the last time Hollywood made a movie that showed the TRUE America? No wonder they hate us. It’s more the stupid movies and not our government policies these people hate. They don’t want what they Perceive as our culture polluting theirs.
Good to see there are so many true Americans out there. Our military rocks. They have done an AWESOME job in Iraq. The problem is getting the liberal media to report an accurate description of what has been going on over there. As so many have already mentioned, Americans (primarily Republicans) do not like to see their country badmouthed. And they certainly are not going to pay to see such garbage. That’s why these so called important films fail.
Maybe all of you liberals should go see the movie tonight. You will have a whole row to yourself.
Me and my pals from Camp Pendleton will be out demonstating in front of the theater, “encouraging” people to see another movie.
It could be ugly.
Every member of the military (most), understand that YES at any time once you sign on the dotted line, you just signed away your life to the military and things can change, its all part of the fun……you can be recalled at any point….nothing is a guarantee….but most are proud to serve….sure, we moan and groan with the best, but that’s human nature…..I like to think the original reason we all join is that deep down we have a certain proudness of our country that noone can change…..not even hollywood……wow!!! John Wayne……I have a great selection of his war movies…now that was a great hollywood back then……..or at least smarter…..
“It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet.”????????????????????????????????
Give me a break!! So the American people are just too stupid in hollywoods eyes! Take your anti-American movies and stick them up your a**!
“Having a skeptical view of what America is doing in Iraq and the Middle East isn’t wrong, it’s the kind of free thought that our forefathers encouraged.”
A skeptical view, only as long as that view, is backed up by a Liberal ideology. All of this crap that get’s spewed by the press, is not skepticism, they are tools used to try to unjustify the war. It is not skepticism, it is anti-war, anti American. It has an agenda other than being skeptical. My proof: There are good things happening in Iraq, but the press never mentions them. THAT is how I know they are biased and full of it. http://bloodtoiltearsandsweat.blogspot.com/
Keep it up Hollywood! I love to see you waste your money on your stupid anti-American agenda! Keep making movies that nobody wants to see except the loons at moron.org, then blame the American public for not seeing it. LOL
When a faithful rendition of “Lone Survivor” becomes the top-grossing movie of the year, maybe Hollywood and the Michelle Obama/Jeremiah Wright segment of the American left will finally get it. But then, what real person cares if that ever happens?
The reason the movie is not doing well is the fact that it is not the usual fantasy about the mighty USA. It is a factual movie so there’s no hiding behind some super hero who shows the world how an American would do things. Get over yourselves and face facts, over 4,000 American soldiers have died for Americas need of oil! Happy to be a liberal.
Imagine Hollywood putting out 10-15 anti-American movies during WWII? Never would have happened. But that was back before patriotism became unintellectual to the liberal world. If Hollywood, even in its rank self-congratulatory cynicism, made a decent film that didn’t demonize/America/Bush/Republicans/or the military, but instead celebrated the bravery and courage and SUCCESSES of our armed forces, it would be a huge hit. But Hollywood will never do this with a Republican admin in power, and probably not even with a Dem.
You must first understand that making a financial profit is NOT the goal of many leftist organizations, such as some Hollywood studios and execs. Same with programs like CNN or CNBC and the like. Making a buck is NOT as important to them as swaying the public in their twisted propaganda. If the almighty dollar was ALL they cares about (and it is’nt), then they could VERY SIMPLY copy Fox News, or create CONSERVATIVE radio or television talk shows, and they would be rolling in the money! They KNOW what kinds of movies WILL make tons of money, they KNOW IT, but they dont do it. Why? Making money is not their primary focus. Propaganda and swaying public opinion is JOB #1 with the liberal media. The proof is in the pudding, going on decades now. Its is non-negotiable fact. Period. Have a nice day. China is coming…
The recent poor box office performance of “Semi-Pro” is further evidence that Hollyweird doesn’t get it. Americans love basketball and don’t want it to be mocked, but the leftie crazies on the left coast of Stalinwood refuse to accept that. Instead, they make movies that GENTLY MOCK those brave man who suit up night after night to shoot orange balls into baskets, night after night.
I’m sick and tired of movies that portray basketball as something other than the honorable, rewarding activity that it is. “White Men Can’t Jump” was factually inaccurate. I once, years ago, met a caucasian who could jump over a chair! “Hoop Dreams” was disspiriting Trotsky-anti-capitalist hogwash.
The only recent movie that got basketball right was “Air Bud”, and guess what? It MADE MONEY. Take notes, you latte sippers on Fidelset Blvd. (that’s what I call Sunset Blvd.) Air Bud made money because it told the TRUTH about America’s successes on the hardcourt, and the value of hard work, and the importance of white families and their dogs.
As long as you keep making movies that treat basketball like a game, instead of the game that it is, we’ll shun you and your liberal fascis… I mean, socialist, friends.
WAKE UP HUGO CHAVEZ LOVING AMERICA-HATING BASKETBALL-LOATHING FASCISTS!
Another anti military anti American Iraq movie bombs. Who’d have thunk it? Liberal Commie Hollywood is so out of touch with American values.
Bob Scofield wrote: “The Bush administration learned this lesson well and cleverly removed those obstacles, by limiting media coverage and only using volunteers …”
It is obvious you don’t hang around some of the embedded blogs vey much Mr. Scofield. We have guys out there in Iraq and Afghanistan who write real on the spot reports about real soldiers and marines who do the real work. Tea with the sheiks, rebuilding the infrastructure, making neighborhoods and villages safe. Read anything about Falluja recently? Mosul? I have … it’s there and it ISN’T THERE BECAUSE OF CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC or even FOX.
It’s there because Roggio and Yon and Ardolino are out there on their own dime (and mine) to live with the soldiers and Marines and give us the real story for the war from the ground. Up close and personal. It’s there because John Tammes (Major, US Army) takes the time to tell us what he sees.
We do have heroes, there are real heroes
Bob, you live in a bubble. You need to get out more.
It isn’t a perfect war, it isn’t a perfect situation. But it never is. It never was.
JAL
Mother of a US Army Major, who signed up of his own free will, who served with honor and integrity in Iraq, and who goes to work every day so Hollywood can make crappy movies about him and the men and women who serve with him.
I agree that the reason these movies don’t do well is because they are nothing but whiney political hit jobs. Regardless of what you liberals want to believe about how evil the military is and what a failure the Iraq war is, the average American apparently doesn’t want to buy the defeatist, anti-American BS that you are selling. So, go ahead and whine about it as much as you want and blow your MoveOn.org dollars on making these pathetic propaganda films. We’ll just vote with our feet and stay home… at least until someone in Hollywood wises up and gives us a film about Iraq that we can be proud of. Being a veteran, I would love to see an accurate depiction of what I experience, but I guess I’ll just have to keep waiting. I won’t use my money to fund these imbeciles’ efforts to deride our country and its top-notch military.
There is a class of people known as the international wealthy. These people include most major stars, directors, producers, rock stars etc. These people like their peers in industry, banking, politics have no loyalty to any nation because their wreath does not depend on any nation. That is why Hollywood does not see themselves as anti American. Being an American doesn’t mean much to them, what matters to them is their money, status and peers. They prefer Dubai to Kansas. F them and their insulting movies.
The short answer to the snotty salcidos of the world, who claim that educated people will see this film (unlike soldiers and their “idiotic masses” supporters in flyover America) is: so why did all the other anti-Iraq films fail so spectacularly at the box office? Where were the elites lined up to see them?
And yeah: spend millions making films no one will see — and then announce that the audience isn’t ready for them! Now THERE’s a marketing plan!
But, thanks, salcido, for showing open contempt for the people you don’t agree with. It’s soooooo…..”liberal” .
See if Hollywood make a movie about Mark Finelli, the Sole WTC Survivor to Enlist in the Marines and fight in Iraq, actually followed the advice of the fans here, and made a pro-troop, pro-USA, pro MISSION, about the sole WTC survivor to enlist in the Marines and fight if Iraq, the RED STATE ticket buyers PASSION OF THE CHRIST CROWD would make this the biggest movie of all time.
How wonderful that almost all these comments support our soldiers and our country. How can FflMeaganabber think we are so lacking in being informed? Which is the same thing as saying we are stupid. God Bless America.
I’ve always heard stories of soldiers being horribly injured, yet wanting to go back and serve. I love to hear stories and see movies about heroes like that, not whiny soldiers who didn’t read their contracts and don’t want to serve, even if most people would understandably fall into the latter category.
How about movie with a John Wayne, leatherneck, hero-type Marine Gunnery Sergeant leading a pack of thundering heavy armor vehicles and fellow Marines into Falluja, Iraq, saying politically incorrect statements like, “Let’s slaughter these rag-headed butchers!” Or perhaps a Lee Marvin strong-jaw type of soldier leading a SEAL team against hide-outs in the Tora Bora region in Afghanistan to rescue some hostages from the Taliban before they cut their heads off. You can even include footage of a captured Al Quaida terrorist being painted in pig blood to get information from him on the location of Binny Laden. Maybe then Mr. Hollywood Liberal will you be able to sell some theater seats.
Yeah, we American movie goers are a bunch of idiots aren’t we? We can’t seem to “appreciate” movies that are “ahead of their time.” I wonder when these Hollywood types will come to “appreciate” that we don’t like bias crap for entertainment. By the way, if this war really for oil, when can we expect payment?Because I have yet to hear about ships filled with oil making their way to our shores from Iraq. And…wouldn’t it be better if we drilled for it ourselves and make wise use our own resouces? BTW, here’s a clean movie for you: http://revver.com/video/403910/catching-faith/
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!
“I support the troops – not the war” That sentiment kind of rings hollow coming from H’Wood – doesn’t it? They support the troops that play into their template -only. For years the left has harped on the right for shoving their beliefs down people’s throats. Now that they’re doing it – it’s OK because they are truly enlightened. Which means that their beliefs are infallable. Hypocrits!
Wow, Niki- I see the crazy conservatives are alive and well on this site!
Stop Loss is bombing because it isn’t escapist entertainment- we can see stories about the Iraq War and our straining military on CNN. Polls show that most Americans don’t support the Iraq War anymore, although of course we all support the troops.
The fact that Ryan Phillippe is rumored to have cheated on Reese Witherspoon with his Stop Loss co-star, Abbie Cornish, doesn’t help draw in adult women, either (despite Phillippe’s massive PR campaign).
Hollywood is completely out-of-touch. Their socialist agendas only appeal to a small portion of the population who are ignorant enough to buy their lies. As for Super Hero, it’s the same old formulaic spoof.
Americans want something new and honorable – clearly something that won’t come out of the worn out Hollywood machine.
“Me and my pals from Camp Pendleton will be out demonstating in front of the theater, “encouraging” people to see another movie.
It could be ugly.
Comment by GI Jihadist”
Funny, I have never, ever heard a Marine refer to himself as a GI. If you are going to pose as a Marine get your jargon straight. I am not even going to touch the existential question of whether you hate yourself since you call yourself a jihadist.
Soldier
“over 4,000 American soldiers have died for Americas need of oil!”
Well, if it were for oil, remember, you use just as much oil as the rest of us. Well, 90% oil from Canada and Mexico that is. And know this, out of a barrel of oil, half of it is used for gasoline, the rest is used for products, that we all use. And I hope that you value life when it comes to abortion, cause the number dead is over 44 million! All in the name of selfishness. Funny how you libs pick and choose what life to be concerned with. If it supports YOUR cause or ideology, then you support it, if not, then it is considered to be just some right wing cause, not worthy of supporting. As a right winger, I thank God, that your mother didn’t have your brains sucked out, even though I can’t stand the idea of you. One last thing, those adult soldiers, they chose to join the millitary. Many choose to join this very day, in light of current events. God Bless those patriots. They are stronger than I to fight for your freedom to be an idiot.
http://bloodtoiltearsandsweat.blogspot.com/
Have any of the commenters seen this film? I did and it’s pro-troops, discussing intelligently an issue that faces most people coming back from the frontlines. The protagonist has some moral problems in considering his choices, but at least he considers them — a choice I doubt anyone who tosses off labels like ‘it’s too liberal’ or ‘it’s too conservative’ have to make comfortably from their lovely and safe homes.
Maybe the movie isn’t successful, folks, is because we want escapism these days — and this hit too close to the headlines.
the reason stop-loss or any movie like it will never do good is because most Americans love America…..we are not all bleeding heart liberals….those are only in washington and hollywood
If a producer wanted to actually make money on a film that dealt with this subject (and tell the truth at the same time), they’d make it far away from the National Socialists in Hollywood, and they’d give the public what they need to hear and see: a story that tells about ourselves, our relatives, our friends and our neighbors, who sacrifice so much to keep us safe.
I would personally love to see a movie in wich a group of Hollywood and Washington liberals get stranded on a desert island and are slaughterd one by one by a fed up military mom who is sick and tired of all the liberal garbage that we have to hear in the media. i think a movie like that would make millions.
NSR and the rest of those (like a certain prograssive party) who rely on DEFLECTION i.e. “why aren’t you serving” comments. We have the best of the best in the military and they should be supported and thanked and we definitely don’t do enough for them. But how dare you are any espouse your elitist vitriol and sarcasm.
To Bob Scofield: You think you’re so smart! No one loves dying or being injured, but these people (not all of them, granted – you have whiners in the military who only signed up for a regular paycheck and didn’t count on a war) are proud of what they do, and yes, (go ahead and gasp!) they do love to kill the bad guys! I said, the BAD GUYS, not the good guys. I have a friend who fought in the Gulf War doing behind-enemy-lines recon for the US Marines (you’ll have to look up what recon is, I’m sure) who brought back pictures of their “wins” and would show them to anyone whom he deemed worthy to look. Then he’d pull out his rifles and show them to you if you were nice . . . he spent as many years as he could in the Marine Reserves after that, and was (uh-oh, here’s that word again) GLAD to go back into duty whenever they called him! He hated to be away from his family, yes, but he understood the big picture (look that up to while you’re at it) and loved his country enough to go there. So, YES, they enjoy this war in many ways – they also enjoy SAVING the GOOD GUYS FROM the bad guys! There ARE bad guys over there, you know. You have proven that you do NOT understand our military OR their families! (My friend’s wife was the one who asked if we wanted to see the pictures and guns – she hated him being gone, but not the REASON he was gone!)
And, you history-deficient pretender, do you understand we could have WON the Vietnam War if our military had been allowed to use their might instead of having to play nice for the cameras? Do you understand that but for those reporters who were broadcasting on all 3 networks we could have finished it all and sent our boys home?! Now, THAT would have saved lives and perhaps kept the draftees out of the war. But, once again we see someone (that’s YOU, Bob) who has a few facts but sees them upside down and backwards.
“AS LONG AS POOR PEOPLE WHO THEY DO NOT KNOW ARE THE ONLY ONES DYING IN IRAQ, AMERICANS WILL NOT CARE!” This is the most moronic statement of all! You think only poor people are dying in Iraq? You think we, the thinking Conservatives of this great land, AREN’T poor? You think that we thinking Conservatives don’t care about the ones dying? You idiot! Those are OUR sons and daughters, wives and husbands over there! And they and their friends account for the 4005 that you are so broken up over!
I’m done with you: you’ll never understand no matter what I type here. I’m sorry you are such a pathetic misinformed unhappy man, but from the looks of it, you’re going to stay that way.
They’ll never learn guys.Guess they just like to lose money.
To all u complaining that Hollywood doesn’t make a pro-Iraq film–wake up! There is NOTHING positive about this war to turn into a film. Those fighting are not heroes fighting for our freedom–they are, unfortunately, people that chose a bad career path and ended up fighting George Bush’s war happy agenda. Our US freedom has NOTHING to do w/ Iraq. NOTHING. We are in fact less safe since this war started, and if Bush has its way, it will never end… not until every American soldier over there dies in vain. And to those that don’t like “whiney” soldiers wanting to get out–why don’t U go and enroll in the services so you can take their place in Iraq??
Want a film to do well? Try making a pro American flick for a change. Only antiwar freaks would care to see Stop Loss and they don’t have any money for the $10 ticket.
I simply don’t see why film company stock holders don’t read the riot act to the producers and directors for making such stupid money wasting films.
You know I cme down in a cork-screw landing in Bosnia and while under intense sniper fire subdued an entire division of Bosnian soldiers and captured a Bosnian General that is now being trie in the International Court of Justice. Chelsea helped a little too and I still had time to hear some stupid poem by some Serb tween which I could not understand because it was in Serb. I can’t believe I have not been awarded the Medal of Honor yet, damn vast right wing conspiracy, I think Chelsea should have gooten at least a Silver Star. I love Bill and he still loves me!
Hillary
Hey Michael….
Does it look like 70% of the people responding here are against the war? You must be reading the New York Times to get your figures. When McCain is elected because of his platform based on NOT pulling the troops out of Iraq, I will be glad to buy your liberal ass a plane ticket to France.
OMP
There are a number of great stories waiting to be told and they would all be hits along the order of Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers, and even the Green Berets, which was released at the height of the Vietnam War. How about a movie about the remarkable efforts of Special Forces and CIA at the beginning of OEF? Or perhaps a movie about Operation Anaconda and the heroism of Robert’s Ridge. Hollywood doens’t want to make a true war movie, they want to make message movies. What they don’t understand is that outside LA, nobody cares what they think.
I can’t believe the volume of misguided posts. It appears that most of those who posted haven’t even gone to see these movies. On the contrary, the flops have for the most part tried to be more balanced than the critics posting here are aware of. The one huge box office success about the Iraq war was the only truly, unabashedly anti-war movie in the bunch, Fahrenheit 911. The public has for the most part tuned out the bulk of pro-war propaganda they get daily through radio and TV, which they can get for free.
“No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off”
The trailers I saw were all negative, anti American turn offs. Perhaps a trailer that showed something entertaining or uplifting would work, but then you would have to make a movie about America that was entertaining or uplifting and that is impossible when you obviously hate America.
Wake up Hollywood, it is not Woodstock. The Vietnam war is over and you can stop your knee-jerks.
Make a movie you would enjoy seeing. How about a movie about the wonderful Hugo Chavez. Or maybe a gay Cuban soldier who finds himself stop-lossed fighting underground for Chavez in Columbia? Oh, I forgot. There is no ’stop-loss’ in the Cuban dictatorship, since there are no rights. Good health care though, unless you are gay.
I hate getting anti-American movie trailers in my face while trying to watch televisio. That is more than I can stomach. I watch Turner classic movies, or AMC to see some decent movies with some normal men ike John Wayne. Great entertainment, and he was not a wuss. Most of today’s politically correct ‘actors’ cannot even play a ‘man’ decently it is so far from their experiences.
Its just this simple. When Hollywood stops making and distributing worthless crap the tide should turn. Thank God for the Indies and Foreign films…..they get it. Good writing + Good acting = Good film and people that will actually watch it. Wow – what a novel concept.
By the way Hollywood – when will you figure out that people want to see a QUALITY well written film and don’t just go to the movies to see the ridiculous and mindless actors you promote. We all get WAY too much of them already in the media!
Any of you bleeding heart lefties getting tired of people who respect our country — try using your thumb, the borders are open.

I just returned from the middle east, most of us on our second or third deployment, and I would go back tomorrow if called. I’m disgusted at everyone who rants against this country, who hopes for its failure, and rallies for surrender to terrorists and tyrants while claiming to be patriotic. The people we are fighting would come for all of you first – and you are too blindly ignorant, too indoctrinated with Marxist dogma to realize it. We go over there to keep them there, so we don’t have pizza shops exploding in Los Angeles or Charleston. We are there protecting you silly socialist nitwits so you can carry signs in the street and wear insipid t-shirts. This ridiculous film is another Hollywood attempt to reverse reality – they make a hero out of the coward, the weakest link with no honor. They then portray the real heroes as mindless, uneducated, desperate pawns manipulated by an evil government. Finally, they whine and complain that Americans are too stupid to see the “brilliance” of their work, the depth of their “wisdom.” The best part about this story is the part where once again, the free-market solution to the problem is made evident – a movie made from a Dr. Seuss book and a pathetic schoolyard comedy are trouncing the big-budget film by Tokyo Rose.
hollywood will never get past the need to play to their own liberal agenda it is sad n cud really be a sucessful movie if done in a positive light nstead of the doom and gloom democrats want the war to b
The Hollywood reality is just as whacked as the Red State reality. The only nutjobs still in favor of this nonsensical war are the superstitious kooks who actually buy the Tim LaHaye horsemanure about raptures and Armeggedon and Jesus. Use your brainpower and avoid Superhero movies.
More important to me than commenting about a negative propaganda movie about our military soldiers is the pride I feel when I read comments supporting our troops. Heart felt thanks from the father of an American Soldier.
I have not stepped into a movie theater in 8 years, they have has been some very good years to me as well. I have managed to read, exercise and do many outdoor activities that made me realize every moment in a dark theater was a complete waste of time and money. Movies don’t even have the same dating appeal as they used to because the movies have been too shockingly bad to even be able to ignore them to focus on your date, along with the teen neanderthals that take away from the experience as well which is another extension of liberalism in general. I’m not sure Hollyweird will ever come out of this self created funk, I’m teaching my kids and friends as well to stay out of the brain-drain complexes, and it’s working, soon it will only be brain dead Obama voters going to the theaters at all. Good luck with that, libs.
Um, EXCUSE MEEEE Mr. Holy-er-than-thou-wood Big Shot Excecutive… I would love to see a quality made Iraq war movie. I just have a REAL problem financing your ANTI-AMERICAN position. Do you even remember John Wayne?!?!?! The way I see it, you could make up your losses and then some if you start right now and make maybe 10-20 pro-hero pix… Have you forgotten the function of your job?
Good Grief!!! What ever happened to going to the movies purely to enjoy the ENTERTAINMENT of a FICTIONAL movie? I haven’t seen this movie yet, but I’m tired individuals these days taking movies so seriously. What has this world come to where you can’t sit down in front of a movie screen or TV anymore without something being said about how it’s religiously wrong, morally wrong, too violent, too emotional, too political, too anti-american….etc.
PEOPLE.. Movies are for Entertaining, taking mental breaks to watch something other than our everyday lives. Stop taking things so seriously and just ENJOY them!!
The movie “Stop Loss” is all about shocking a civilian audience with a situation where a soldier who has served his time, including a tour of duty in battle, is then pressed back into service using the “stop-loss” provision available to the U.S. armed forces. Why does Hollywood make such a movie only about the Iraq War, when they have had decades to make movies set in the months after May 1945, when many U.S. soldiers who had survived the slaughter of battle in Europe were set to be shipped to the Pacific Theater to fight the Japanese? Now, in the end many of them did not have to go because the atomic bomb took care of things, but they thought they were going and they weren’t whining to the public about it, and Hollywood wasn’t putting out movies in the spring and early summer of 1945 sobbing about how the poor G.I.’s had done their duty in Europe and heartless Uncle Sam was unfairly about to send them to fight in Asia. Soldiers are a proud and honorable bunch who know what they’re getting into when they swear to fight for their country. I admire them for that. They don’t need tears from Hollywood, or from Ryan Phillippe.
If Hollywood/MTV opened a version of “Lone Survivor” this weekend, it would pull at least $30MM. It’s not the “Iraq War Movie” we are sick of, it’s the anti-american Iraq War movieS. That’s “S”, because there have been many of them.
When Lone Survivor comes out, you’ll get my $12 at the box office. In the meantime, Hollywood can go to hell for supporting the enemy.
If “Lone Survivor”, the book, was made into a movie tomorrow, it would be a blockbuster at the box office.
America is tired of the liberal leaning actors in Hollywood….why are they so dense to just chalk up the failures to the thought they we dont like Iraw movies because the war is unresolved or that we are bombarded with it in the media?
Leave you political slant out of the movies….maybe I would put down my books for once and go to the box office.
Unless I need to know the difference between “stage left and stage right”, I really dont give a darn what an actor has to offer in the way of political, social or military matters.
You conservatives are fucking stupid. No one wants to see an Iraq War movie because A MAJORITY OF THE COUTNRY IS AGAINST THE WAR!!! Why would I as a liberal, want to watch a movie about the USA occupying another sovereign country? Get a fucking clue.
Bob,
How dare you speak of me and my brothers and sisters with such elitist contempt “AS LONG AS POOR PEOPLE WHO THEY DO NOT KNOW ARE THE ONLY ONES DYING IN IRAQ, AMERICANS WILL NOT CARE!” Just like a know-nothing, never been anywhere, or done anything socialist (not a liberal – your people have forgot what Jefferson meant or did), you speak from your posterior. How can you type like that? If you had taken half the time it took to insult us to Google or Yahoo some of the well published demographics of those .003% of our nation that volunteer to serve, you would not have written such an ignorant comment. We are educated – over 90% of enlisted have a high school education – pretty good compared to the 50-60% of civilians and even more amazing we made it out of a socialist run organization known as the public school system. We are OVERWHELMINGLY from middle to upper income families. You give liberals a bad name when you purvey such ignorance.
The real truth is the world has not seen such a one-sided victory since King Harry left Agincourt in 1415. While the loss of each soldier, sailor, or airman is tragic to the family and the men and women serving with the dead, the fact remains that we are kicking ass. Any private (poor and uneducated from your perspective) has figured out we don’t want to fight those half-wits in Afghanistan when we can bring them out in the open onto a battle field of our choosing and decimate them! DUH! If you remember the Russians didn’t too to well – learning from history can be a bitch – if you are a socialist. I suggest you review the Battle of Waterloo and why Wellington hoped and prayed Napoleon would engage where and when he did.
But who am I? I am just a poor stupid enlisted man.
Another anti American movie for the left to mentally masturbate themselves. Made with actors who would pee their pants if they actually had to fight and by directors who get their plots from the Daily Kos & the Huntington Post. Funny thing if the Radical Islamists actually had their way the first group they would go after is Hollywood and its culture. Go Figure?
I don’t know about everyone else but with the cost of tickets going way up, I check the movie out on the internet first. If it is a good movie like bourne I not only go see it I buy it. Problem is lately most of the junk comming out I don’t even watch much of it even when it is free. Holliworld has gradually changed how people think about things. It takes time but eventually they get enough there way to change things. I remember when Peyton place first came on tv. A lot of people were shocked that a station would put such trash on tv. Looking on what we have now on tv peyton place is very mild. I personally do not have their trash in my home. I have IPTV with sky angle.
I don’t even bother to pirate their craptacular Gramscian product…But I sure as hell “educate” and “empower” every one of my friends and associates – of every political stripe – to bit torrent the hell out of the coastal collectives ‘visionary work’.
My left-leaning friends think “Wow! Free movies” and download Sicko.
HA!
Nearly everything the Corporatist Hollywood machine produces and distributes is, at the very least, threaded through with their nihilistic ‘cultural’ narrative. In their little theoretical world – up is down, and real progress is corrosion. Teenage single motherhood is applauded, and real murderous dictators are celebrated in silhouette on T-shirts and celluloid alike.
These Navel-gazing projectionists with far too much time-space to lounge about in their Malibu compounds have been fundamentaly culpable in the production and nurturing of global anti-American sentiments. Biting the hand that feeds them has been their primary stock in trade going on decades now, and I’m absolutely loving the manifestation of widespread domestic disgust for said product.
Keep it up angsty hollywood cokeheads. Your actions spur Americans, who are appreciative of their exceptional luck in getting to decide exactly how they spend the fruits of their individual labor, to (in my case) pro-actively seek ways to prevent their hard-earned cash from contributing in ANY way toward maintaining the powdered noses of our self-proclaimed and overly-pampered ‘betters’.
May you suffocate under the weight of the market that is leaving your hubris behind, and may your industry (in its current iteration) go the way of the big city newspaper.
America FTW!
Knowing the danger of the Andreas fault, if the worst happens and Hollywood and environs fall into the Pacific Ocean will anybody care above the cheering from the rest of us?
On the other hand, perhaps Hugo Chavez and Venezuela would like to annex Hollywood?
I agree with so many others. I’ve given up on seeing a rational and accurate movie about the Iraq War and the War on Terror.
Part of the problem is that Hollywood is playing to the overseas market. They are no longer solely relying on the American public or even really caring what the public wants. Therefore just because an anti military film doesn’t do well here in the States they know they can make it up overseas with people who live and breathe anti Americanism.
Maybe eventually Hollywood will move out of the country and we can start over with talented, imaginative people who will give the American public what we want: creative scripts that aren’t recycled garbage and actors who can actually act.
Wow, the Drudge Report psychos are out in full force today. And all of them spewing the same Fox News b.s.
Hollywood is populated by whining liberals, born with silver spoons in their mouths, yet they hate America due to their self-loathing and guilt complexes.
Movies are doing poorly because this attitude always comes across in the movies, through the condescending attitude toward the American people. There is a looooooong list of Hollywood “stars” that I simply refuse to go see or rent any movie with their names on the credits.
“It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet.”
B.S.: The majority of Americans do not like seeing movies that show America or Americans as losers, quiters, etc. Hollyweird continues to focus on the negative. If they were to make a movie that shows the successes that have been achieved (and yes, there have been many, I witnessed them myself on a daily basis) and if they showed the bravery of my brothers and sisters serving their country, plenty of Americans would go see it.
Long and short – America’s sick of Hollywood when it’s acting out its prejudices and insanities. If the Islamic terrorists ever managed to take over, the first casualities they would exult in murdering on camera would be “liberal” Hollywood movie stars and gays.
Those “yeah, but I support the troops” lies? The troops, an ALL-VOLUNTEER FORCE who are brighter per person than most people in Hollywood, get it. Hollywood hasn’t gotten it since idiots like Jane Fonda started making movies.
People in fly-over land are simply tired of being preached to by elitist lefty writers, directors and actors.
It would be nice to see one movie portray the TRUTH… Terrorist are the KILLERS
The Kingdom was the only movie to stay nuetral and portray a REALISTIC version of the middle east…
Hollywood will never get it… can’t wait for oliver Stone’s new movie on George W.Bush… I’m sure it will be “fair and Balanced”…
You guys are awesome in here. It gives me hope for America. That there are true patriots still alive and kicking.
You a s s holes in Hollywood need to bring back John Wayne from the grave and prop up his corpse if you can’t find anyone like him. But you commie loving ba s t ar ds won’t because McCarthy was right and the blacklisters were right. Hollywood is full of America hating Commies. So keep on putting on your Che Guevara beret and T-shirt as you get dressed for your global warming event for Al Gore….and we’ll keep not showing up…….A S S HOLE
AMERICANS SUPPORT THE WAR!
Evidence of this:
1) Audiences have shunned small anti-war movies that anti-war film critics have generally disliked.
NOT evidence of this:
1) George W. Bush’s approval ratings
2) Poll after poll indicating up to 2/3rds of Americans want a troop pullout
3) The Democrats taking control of Congress in 2006
4) Support of the war considered one of John McCain’s greatest liabilities among independent voters
5) The popularity of books critical of war planning
But disregard this, because the fact that “Redacted” and “Lions for Lambs” were critical and financial flops is proof that real America supports the war, the troops, and great filmmaking like “Meet the Spartans.”
hey hollywood -
make a movie based on Marcus Lutrell’s ordeal in Afghanistan…people will come…his book “Lone Survivour” tells the account of his Navy Seal training and fighting ordeal he and his 4 man crew went threw in special ops in the Hindu Kush region…truly inspiring..the leader of his team was posthumously awarded the Congressional Metal of Honor (some irony in Congress pronouncing whose honorable, but I digress).
read the book; make the movie!

Hollywood liberals please read:
1. America is the greatest force for good in the world.
2. I thank God the current Hollywood libs weren’t in charge during WWII. We’d be speaking German now!
Despite different opinions about the war, most people don’t like quitters (even heroic ones) and most of us don’t want to see a movie about quitters written for the sole purpose of degrading the military and our country in a time of war.
Better Off.
This country would be better off if Hollywood was treated like any other type of industry.
Why do we care what a bunch of ego driven folk think about this country?
They have the poison pen therefore they know best?
No, I don’t think so.
God Bless America especially those that serve out country.
Hollywood is really tanking at the box office; it appears they’re losing their war against America.
The real stupidity about Hollywood, they don’t have a clue that without oil they cannot make their celluloid nightmares.
Bill Clinton should be ashamed of himself since I was “stop-lossed” to take part in his illegal war on Serbia (Yugoslavia). Unfortunately, anyone who volunteered since the eighties at least (that is when I joined) knows that you can be called back at any time at the pleasure of the president. It is part of your contract. Unfortunately my skill-set was in short supply when Bill Clinton started his “wag the dog”, Monica Lewinsky distraction war on Serbia and he shamelessly pulled me out of my cushy civilian job and away from my family for over 2 years to help distract the public from his sexual indiscretion. “Stop Loss” is obviously a sham movie made by people with a political axe to grind. They would never have made this movie about their beloved Bill.
There is nothing anti-American about self-criticism. In fact, quite the opposite. Lack of self-criticism is anti-American.
People who commit evil never think that what they are doing is wrong. If they didn’t believe it was ok to do, through whatever twisted rationalization, then they wouldn’t do it. So how, then, would you or I ever know if we are commiting evil? – only though careful vigilance and honest introspection.
Saying ‘I can do no wrong because I am inherently good’ is an argument without merit. Your morality is based on your actions, not your beliefs about yourself. ‘Faith, if it hath not works, is dead’.
First off, anyone shocked that 21 is doing well is an idiot when it comes to teenagers. They have not had a new movie in weeks and they are all talking about it.
RE: Stop Loss, PEOPLE WANT TO ESCAPE from this fucking nightmare we are in, not for Hollywood to remind us what a mess it is or why we shouldn’t be there…WE KNOW…we see it every night on every cable news station!!! You know what would do $100,000,000 —RAMBO going back to Afghanistan (set up with Rambo 3) and killing Bin Laden! People want the fantasy, NOT the reality.
I agree anti-military movies don’t interests me much. What concerns me though is how Americans have become complete losers. As your economy crumbles, your dollar collapses, and (rightly or wrongly) your credibility and power of persuasion all but vanish, what is the answer of the average American? To refuse to listen anyone with a slightly different opinion. You have morphed into those third world protesters who burn effigies when they perceive the slightest affront. Americas ability to constantly withstand being besmirched and insulted, and take it with a smile, was a sign of its greatness, not a flaw. You whiners are simply the film that is left over a great country dies.
Ganymede,
“You conservatives are fucking stupid. No one wants to see an Iraq War movie because A MAJORITY OF THE COUTNRY IS AGAINST THE WAR!!!”
That’s our point, braindead! They know that nobody wants to see these movies, yet they continue to make them anyway! Why is that? The nation wants to see movies where WE win! Or movies with POSITIVE messages! Hollywood knows this, but continues to make their LIBERAL, LEFTISTS, ANTI AMERICAN movies ANYWAY! Who are the “fucking stupid”? You leftists need to remove yourselves from this country. Or better yet, need to be removed!
http://bloodtoiltearsandsweat.blogspot.com/
“And all of them spewing the same Fox News b.s.”
No, Fox is spewing what we tell them to!
I hope Hollywood keeps making these films. If these liberal jackasses want to hang themselves, I say give them more rope. Hollywood and the American Left want really believe that the US military is made up of poor uneducated people who really don’t want to be there. As with most things they believe, there is NO basis for it. When compared to the 18-24 year old general public, they are better educated and come from higher income households. Over 20% of 18-24 year olds in the United States do not have the equivelant of a high school diploma. The rate among US military recruits is less than 4%. Of the total US population, 19.8% have household incomes under $30,000. The rate among US military recruirs is 13.6%. Almost 46% of recruits have household incomes in excess of $42,000. Only 40% of the general population can say the same. A far as being duped into extra tours or whatever other nonsensical point this film tried to make, you don’t sign up for a certain number of tours, or amount of combat when you join the military. 99% of the military realize that and don’t whine about the job they do, thank God. There has never been a perfect war. There never will be a perfect war. There are always mistakes made. While every soldier’s death is a tragic loss, there has probably never in history been a war fought with a lower casualty rate than this one. With over 160,000 US troops involved in this war, there has been a daily loss overall of less than 2.2 deaths per day and for this year, slightly more than one per day. Compare that with a five year period (1966-1970)in Vietnam where the US lost over 55,500 men or over 141 per day! What we are engaged in now IS war and if you had told someone even 25 years ago that you could fight a large scale war with losses of 2.2 people per day, they would have told you that you were crazy. No one likes war, contrary to what some people want to believe and nobody wants soldiers to die. So, when soldiers do go to war and die, we don’t need Hollywood and the left in this country belittling the military’s work or the cause that they are fighting for. The military understands why they are there even if Hollywood doesn’t.
Iraq Veterans Against the War:
http://ivaw.org/
I tried to express a thought earlier and have been attacked very aggressivly by many. abd i beleive if you read my post you would understand what I said will only be understood by vietnam vets and iraq vets. the billowing bundle of hype we hear and read is the same stuff we heard by in the vietnam days. I love when people bring up the volunteer issue. ok with that said how about from this day forward nobody volunteers. how long until one of two things occur. bush says that the iraq people need to fend for themselves or we have to draft people. to the person who said i need to punch my history teacher,,, I lived during the vietnam war and served and saw the outcome. either be ready as a country to go enmass and blow away anything that moves for victory and make sure ALL citzens get to participate or get the hell out. I dont get the volunteer stuff. your saying you get a free ride because someone else is doing your fighting for you? if you beleive so much in your country, then why arent you in?? and please the post clearly are not written by vets. vets undertsand, side liners dont.
My wife and I have stopped going to all Hollywood movies. They seem to think we are all micheal morons. Like the others say, make a movie showing the USA in a positive light and we will pay to see it. Otherwise, we hope you lose your shirts over these anti american flops!
Wait until the heroic movie of Marcus Luttrell’s story “Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10″ comes out- and is a success.
Stop Loss was from MTV Films? Not a shocker. From the same Morons who have “news” coverage on Nickelodeon of 10 year old kids dressed up like Al Queda terrorists at Abu Grahib. Trashing America.
Let alone the Tripe MTV shows on a daily basis. It should be re-named to “ATV” Agenda Tevevision. Becuase there is zilcho Music.
I love reading the crazy people’s comments. Keep ‘em coming Drudge.
Any of you right-wingers have a response for the Iraq Veterans Against the War?
http://ivaw.org/
Did I mention that when the helicopter cork screwed landed I saved everybody’s life on board and managed to pull everyone to safety, all the time under intense sniper fire from Bosnian special forces and perhaps 10 Bosnian divisiona trained to kill me! These marines are a bunch of pussies compared to me the model of american leftist socialist ideology, oh by the way don’t pay any attention to that picture of Bill, my loving sex pot, hugging the rev. Jeremiah Wright, as I’ve mentioned before he never would have been our pastor, but he very clearly was in line to be our love guru! I think Bill even suggested rev. Wright become our rabbi.
Love you all,
Hillary
Many in Hollywood, the media and academia live within their own little liberal social networks where they never or almost never encounter anyone who strongly disagrees with them. Besides, in their minds, they are the “enlightened,” “sensitive” ones who know what’s best for the rest of us “plebeians”. Hollywood has become such an extention of the politically-correct, far-left that there’s no room conflicting viewpoints. This makes most of their movies unwatchably boring because they all come from the same preachy, predictable, left-wing viewpoints.
The Stop Loss “Bomb” has nothing to do with anti-war theme.
(OK, it does for normal adult movie goer. IE… anyone with a brain)
But for this movie, the target audience was the 15 to 30 year old male.
Who want T&A and Three Stooges slapstick.
They do not watch CNN or Fox News.
They do not want to be preached to.
All they want to do, is live fast and die young.
They “Will Not” go to see a anti-war propaganda hit piece, like “Stop Loss”. It does not matter how much MTV promotes the film.
Now if you throw in “Britney kissing Paris” while the “Jack-Ass” crew is getting “Punked” then it would be a hit.
Don’t underestimate the negative effect these type of films portray to the rest of the world.
Anyone tracking overseas revenues?
Man, Bill O’Reilly’s fingers must be getting tired from all the typing he’s doing today. You people cannot possibly exist.
You Hollywood Collectivist scum really don’t get it… “No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off.”
Make movies that give the USA a fair shake and we’ll see them. Until then…UP YOURS!!!
Here’s a suggestion for “hollywood”, show the movie in the middle east or europe cash in on the big euro bucks. When you ready to make good old American value movies again then americans will consider paying “dollars” to watch. Till then i’ll watch reruns of john wayne….
“There is nothing anti-American about self-criticism. In fact, quite the opposite. Lack of self-criticism is anti-American.”
Self criticism is one thing, but that is not what is goin on here today. This is one political ideology against another in the US. Criticism admits that we are mostly good, with a few querks. Not to the Left though. To them we are inherently evil(the us)and may do some good here and there. The good being only if it is done by a leftist ideal. IE: Forced governmnetal charity versus private charity. Forceful taking of money from tax payers is good, to the left, whereas we on the right, think it is robbery. See the difference? Go to hell, leftists!
Imagine if President Bush did what Liberal heros FDR and Truman Did.
400000 dead Americans
1 Million wounded
2 Nukes Dropped
Over 5 million civilians dead
Draft
Jailed People for their race only.
Executed Terrorists/Traitors- instead of jailing them at Gitmo.
You think the left is unhinged now, they would be soiling their collective code pinko panties.
According to most statistics, we have murdered each other in america to the tune of more than 80000 people since the Iraq war began. And we die at the hands of our fellow “drunk” american at the rate of 25000 a year. And they {the moores, macintyres, oprahs, obamas, and clintons of the world} decry {actually I believe they applaud} the milestone of 4000 brave young men and women who have sacrificed so much for them in Iraq. It makes me sick. Especially in light of their obvious hatred of America!!!
How is it that all these people who’ve found this page thanks to Drudge are able to wholly condemn a movie they haven’t even seen? It’s just a movie. Lighten up people. And learn to spell, all of you.
There is an essay written by a retired Marine Corp General and a two time recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Its called War Is A Racket. If you have never read it, it would behoove you to do so. Its online.
The premise of stop loss is completely exaggerated. When anyone enlists, it is for eight year, no matter what! Typically, people sign for four, but they have an additional four years for in-active ready-reserve. This is what how they can LEGALLY hold people. EVERYONE WHO ENLISTS SIGNS A CONTRACT THAT EXPLAINS ALL OF THIS, in detail. For those of you who think brave young lads are getting dooped in to this are getting dooped by an obviously biased, agenda-oriented Hollywood.
It is not that America is not ready for an Iraq war film, it is that the majority of Americans don’t want an Iraq war film that is against the war. Contrary to what Hollywood film makers seem to think, Most Americans do support the war and the soldiers fighting it. What America is hungry for is a HERO. We want and need a successor to JOHN WAYNE. Hollywood movers and shakers may not like to hear this but, THE SIXTIES ARE OVER. Times have changes and the old anti-war movement is dead. Most Americans want to know the good things that have and are happening in Iraq. If they want to make movies that make money, WE NEED A HERO!!!!
Here’s a movie idea:
Islamic Fundies coach a kid with Down Syndrome to blow herself up in a coffee shop full of kids and GI Joe breaks up the scheme!
To satisfy Hollywood’s lust for sex, they can even make the protagonist gay.
Hmmmmm…why do these movies flop? Because no one wants to be reminded what a disastrous quagmire Iraq is.
Hollywood, you are mired in your leftist-elite fantasy-land of Godless excess and indulgence. Unlike you liberal, spoiled and vain “artists”, we actually support our troops, want to win this war, and love our country, warts and all.
We don’t need you pinheads to tell us how we should view this war or this country. Bite me big time.
The depth of ignorance in this country explains how Bush got elected [In 2004. In 2000, his daddy's Supreme Court gave it to him.]
The depth of ignorance in this country equally explains the insanely phony Obama cult.
Bush and Obama are flip sides of the same coin. Two bumbling guys who have no aptitude for or grasp of the Presidency, who’ve put one over on voters with perceived charm, who voters support because they’re the preferred candidate to have a beer with and therefore get what they deserve.
Obama is finished, but he would’ve brought 4-8 more years of ruination to this country.
Channeling Liberal freaks: “I learned to hate my country in ‘college’. Look at me and how intellectual I am as a lemming who is just following what my socialist/closet commy tenured professor taught me. I do academic research and learned to regurgitate the same tripe written by the same closet commies. I am a member of Mensa and the 999 society, you can’t talk to me. I am sooo on a higher level along with my clique of friends who all live on mommy and daddy’s credit card, till I graduate and join the Earth Liberation Front and burn up a SUV dealership. Then I will be on welfare just to stick it to the ‘man’. I don’t dare think for myself, what will MTV and all my ‘educated’ friends think? I am going to condescend and tell you how smart I am and going to vote ‘Obama’, he is like…so ‘now’, but Kucinich still speaks to me…he visited last night in the UFO. Look at how cool I am at cocktail parties when I tell everyone how I made less than $80,000 on the film ‘Redacted’. As long as my pinky is in the air when I drink my wine. Bush LIED and my reason and common sense DIED! 9/11 was an inside job! It’s the Troof! I pray to Noam Chomsky every night. How can you all fight this immoral war? Abu Ghraib and underwear on the head is so much more worse than being beheaded and ruled by an authoritarian oppressive fascist theocratic regime! We torture! Can’t you see that waterboarding is TORTURE! You can’t force a bath on ANYONE! If I was told to take a bath…well, I would protest or go to therapy or something. It’s their ‘culture’ to behead people! You don’t get it! I have never read the Koran, but I know it is a Religion of PEACE! Believing in God is so ‘yesterday’ but for some reason I will believe that there is a ‘moral highground’ even though it takes a belief in Deity to have a ‘moral highground’ at all. (oops that train of thought might lead to a conservative conclusion…must smoke dope to eradicate the thought…*cough*..ahh, all better.) I try all the new fashion out of Berkeley, no bathes and a ‘Peace scarf’ that I put over my face during rallies and express myself by looking like a terrorist. I hate America, but I have no guts to leave for I know that every view I espouse will get me killed in most countries if I demanded my welfare check and then protested against those who gave it too me (Wait! Another conservative thought…(lights dooby…*cough*) all better). I hate knowing I am in the greatest nation ever in the history of the world. I hate myself. I am on welfare because I will not work, but you who do work need to stop global warming. You need to pay slave reparations (in the words of Teresa Heinz-Kerry) to the ‘continental Africans’ who are here! STOP THE CONSTITUTION! It was founded by a bunch of slave owning RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS! It’s a conspiracy by “Big Oil and Big Zion!” The shallowness of liberalism could continue ad-infinitum…
Conservative: “When we pay the price for open borders and corrupt government, you can thank me because I own the guns and will protect you.”
*SPIT*
It’s been said a hundred times already, but every Iraq war movie has flamed out because we’re all tired of Hollywood’s incessant anti-American propagandizing. Just because a bunch of self-appointment media elites in LA and NYC got together and decided they would pitch American failure in Iraq come hell or high water doesn’t mean the country in any way buys into it. It’s hilarious how many anti-American Iraq war movies Hollywood has made, how each one dies on the vine, and then how Hollywood blames the audience! It’s the same thing liberals do – if you don’t agree with their perverse adherence to “international law” over American interests, it’s because you’re not enlightened or educated enough. It’s never, ever the fault of the self-appointed liberal ubermensch.
Personally, I hope Hollywood bankrupts itself trying to cram these crude political diatribe films down America’s throat. We’ll never accept them, and we no longer accept you. To think of all the great pro-American movies that Hollywood put out in WWII – and the effect they had on winning the war – contrasted with the depths you’ve sunk to… you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Ever notice that all the people who are saying that “Stop Loss” is an honest movie were never in the military?
The fact is the left has made us a nation of cowards.
Nicki Finke loves the America trashing movies like this so she must be very upset. She and her America hating and Jew hating counterparts in Hollywood just can’t stand it that the American people no longer want to buy such dreck from the Hollywood elite.
Hollywood has crashed and burned with the Left Wing Loonies in charge. Obama is about as Left as Hillary, both are out of touch with most Americans. Hooorah! US Military!
Hollywood, liberals and democrats are idiots and liars. “We support the troops but not the mission”. Huh? That’s like saying I’m a Red Sox fan but I don’t want them to win the world series. Morons. “We feel the best way to support our troops is to bring them home”. Huh?? How about trying to support the troops by supporting the mission instead of dragging your feet kicking and screaming like a child in the middle of a tantrum? This war would be farther along if dems and liberals spent less time bad mouthing the country, president and the troops and got on board as Americans first and Dems second. Yes, I dare to question their patriotism!!
Actually leftist Hollywood is well aware that we folk in “flyover area” don’t think like they do.
However they passionately believe that we should think more like them not the other way around. Thus so many movies have “instructional messages” (propaganda) sometimes disguised as story but less and less covert these days.
Of course like all those with irrational beliefs the worldwide failure of socialism is easily ignored because their leftist views don’t reside in the rational part of their brain. Their views reside in the reactionary, emotional, and fear part of the brain you know the parts that make good movies.
Isn’t Paramount a publicly traded company? Regardless of your views on the war, isn’t investing in making a film that you know is going to bomb bad business sense? Of course, maybe their aim isn’t to make money…
Debra – I saw Star Wars last night – Darth Vader Should be ashamed of himself.
You saw a FILM and then you say “Bush should be ashamed.”
Everything for conservatives is either black or white, in more ways than one. How “stop-loss” is an anti American movie is beyond me, but since shrub 2 is in power you either line up behind his warped view of the world or your against all thats Holy and American. Talk about a simple view of the world. Most of us live in an environment where religious, political and world views are quite complex, it’s neither black or white, we all judge things based on our experiences and backgrounds. So I suggest you go see that movie and maybe then write about it.
Hey Mark–movies don’t show the US in a positive light b/c, quite frankly, the US is not in any sort of positive light thanks for Bush and Cheney and this ridiculous war that has killed now 4K American soldiers, a hundred + thousand innocent Iraqis, we are going nowhere with this war, we have NO business being in Iraq anyway (since the 911 pilots are from Saudi Arabia, not Iraq!!), the majority of Americans think this war was a huge mistake from the start, and truthfully–all of Europe and most of the civilized war does think America is run by a bunch of bafoons and does view America in a negative light. As far as liberals trying to force feed their views down the throats of Americans… what about Republicans? They want to force “Christian” values and war nonsense down the throats of Americans, not liberals. Liberals seem to show it as it really is–the Iraq war being a complete and total catastrophe!
Bob Scofiled appears to have ties to the anti-American website http://www.bushsucksdaily.com so one could expect such anti-US Armed Forces drivel from the likes of him. I even suspect he works for the film industry in LaLawood.
Let me tell you something BOOB, I live near and work with many Active Duty, Reserve, separated, and retired veterans and to the person they support this cause. The eras of the Vietnam War troops and today’s are completely different. BOOB, your statement that “AS LONG AS POOR PEOPLE WHO THEY DO NOT KNOW ARE THE ONLY ONES DYING IN IRAQ, AMERICANS WILL NOT CARE!” Well guess what BOOB, there are many, many not so (your words) “poor people” that volunteered to join the military and go to Iraq and Afghanistan. I have met lawyers and doctors that have done so and some joining the enlisted ranks. I have not even HEARD of, even one, LaLawood ACTOR, CAMERA person, or DIRECTOR being patriotic and not so GREEDY enough to join the military in modern times. And oh we Americans do care about our troops and their cause. What we do not care about is BS artist like yourself and your LaLawood kindred spirits degrading our Armed Forces or their causes.
BOOB and his LaLawood ilk would rather rake in the cash from the spilt patriotic blood of our honorable and patriotic troops.
Oh yeah, BOOB, I voluntarily spent more than 21 years in the military, how much did you spend in to become an expert on the demographics and politico economic make-up of our great Armed Forces.
BOOB, do us all a favor and stick your linked website and head back into the sand.
If Hollywood wants a hit they will make Lone Survivor into a movie. It is one hell of a book, and would be a perfect movie. True story. Drama. Many pro-America elements, but also some harsh truths about war.
Comment to Many:
“Black Hawk Down was an excellent movie. Showed us getting our asses kicked…but at least it was the truth and at least it showed America in a positive and noble sense.”
Unfortunately you told only half the story. The Clinton administration was notified of this event in the beginning and had we had a real qualified President in office he would have ordered the US commander to by pass the coalition commander (non-US) and applied a full US support into getting those trapped men out. This was not brought out in the film adaptation. But it does depict realistic American soldiers in action under severe stress conditions.
And in response to Mary about the film’s writer’s brother having been stop-loss, “Whats your point?”
In response to Ducar, the parent of a service member in Iraq. Your comments only tell me you were not involved in what your child was doing, Are you a bad parent? Stop loss is outlined in all enlistment contracts and even stated in separtion documents such as ” May be recalled at the request of the President of the United states”. It appears to me you failed to do your part as a parent in advising your child. But them it also appears your liberal. My experiene, 34 years in the Military.
I’ve had stop loss pulled on me when Afghanistan was first beginning. I understood the nature of the cause and did not whine. Hollywood needs to realize that most military members are not pussy’s like they are.
Some in here have written that if you are stop lossed that the military violated its contractual agreement, not so. When you enlist itis part of the contract you willingly signed that this could occur. It happens in peacetime also, although it doesnt get the publicity. Sure it sucks, but all part of the contract one signed when they enlisted. Maybe read the contract before you signed it, my recruiter let me take the thing home and read it over night before i signed, i was well aware of everything i was agreeing to. So yes this movie will flop, and maybe hollywood will get it and stop making them with anti American themes. The exec even admitted it wouldnt do well and produced it anyway. So it appears Hollywood is more than willing to do an anti American movie even at a loss to show their hatred
Hollywood’s anti-americanism is just another symptom of the sickness pervading what was once the Democratic party. I lost all respect for Democrats when they started moving to Canada whenever things don’t go their way. That’s just pathetic – how do you possibly expect to be considered patriotic if you flee the country whenever you don’t get what you want? Go have your little moral temper tantrums somewhere else, you defeatist fools. Say what you want about Republicans, but at least they don’t throw in the towel and move to another nation when the going gets tough. And, surprise surprise, what characteristics have come to reflect the fair-weather Democrats? Spinelessness, defeat, and abject cowardice. Bill Clinton spent 8 years studiously avoiding anything that might require the use of force, with the net result that we got hit with 9/11. Think about it: first they shot our diplomants. Bill did nothing. Then they blew up our embassies. Bill did nothing. Then they blew up our warships. Bill did nothing. Then they drove a truck bomb into the WTC. Bill did nothing.
Democrats remind me of Ned Flanders’ useless beatnik parents: They’ve already tried “nothing” – and now they’re all out of ideas.
Al, great video link…thanks
When Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door at Wittenberg, was he anti-Christian? Catholics said yes. But Protestants considered his attempt to reform a hopelessly corrupt church the most pro-Christian action he could have taken.
When you love something, and think it’s being handled incorrectly, you do something about it. And I have a news flash for those of you who use the phrase “anti-American” so casually. If those of us on the left didn’t care about this country, we’d have kept our mouths shut while the Bush administration drove it into the ground.
We really need a military that is mostly conscripts except the officer and senior NCO ranks.
Of course our current volunteer military is pro military, why wouldn’t it be? Most people that volunteer for the football team tend to enjoy football to. No big mystery there.
An obligation to server your country a minimum of 2 or maybe 3 years between 18 and 24 years old would be a good thing. Very few exceptions, grossly handicapped either physically or mentally would exempt you, we could make those with criminal records stay back and clean trails in parks or something, not give them automatic weapons and advanced training.
A conscripted army would change a lot, it would also better reflect all segments of American society.
We had lots of conscripts in the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea and Vietnam. And no we did not lose a single major battle to the Vietnamese ever, we just quit and went home. The soldiers did a good job RA or USA.
We americans don’t like reality, we want fantasy & escapism – exactly why so many on this board want a positive fluffy american war film. So you can have it – and live in a daydream.
Stop loss is a flop because it’s based on a reality no one wants to hear about.
Stop loss is happening to many. It is a reality that needs to be told to all potential ‘volunteers’. this is something that is not told to recruits when they are being pursued. They are told they’ll get great education, great experience, and a service of 4 YEARS active duty, not limitless. We have a stop loss because this war is so screwed up & draining our resources.
I’m a Conservative but I don’t understand what invading Iraq has to do with defending the US.
You had better watch a 9-11 doc like “Loose Change”
http://www.laughingpond.com/
to realize Muslim radicals had nothing to do with 9-11.
It’s one thing to love your country; it’s another to be manipulated and exploited by your own patriotism.
What about all of these liberals who pay $11 for their cup of coffee at Starbucks and who love Obama so much? They probably love this movie.
Lets see…anti-American/troops movies like Lions for Lambs, Redacted, etc have all been flops, while pro American movies like Saving Private Ryan were much better recieved. When will those elitists in Hollywood realize that most Americans are tired of their country being criticized for everything? It’s literally at a point where the Iraqi’s we’re fighting against are being shown in a better light in more movies than our own troops.
Comment by Ganymede — March 29, 2008 @ 8:39 am
Wow, another very poignant statement made by a representative of the highly educated Liberals.
To paraphrase for us ignorant conservatives; “We Liberals will spend millions of dollars on a movie product catering to other liberals knowing full well those same group of liberals will not go see said film.”
Your right, you should run the government. So the rest of the country can look like Baltimore. And yes, more US citizens have been killed in California, about the same size and makeup of Iraq, since the war began. That would be approximately 265% more.
The Iraq war movies are not doing well because one can watch all about it on the television news. And read about it on alternative news sites on the internet.
The Iraq war is based upon lies and fabrication. Our very own vice president when told that 70% of the people in this country do not feel this war was worth it replied, ” So.”
The U.S. military has been used for an aggression that only benefits the elite powers that be.
Oh yeah. Before you brand me a ‘ lefy or a liberal.’ I am a registered republican.
Fuck Hollywood!
Response to statements:
“Lack of self-criticism is anti-American”
This is a statement made by a born loser. You cannot win without self confidence.
“You conservatives are fucking stupid. No one wants to see an Iraq War movie because A MAJORITY OF THE COUTNRY IS AGAINST THE WAR!!!”
So the media polls tell us…the same polls that said John Kerry was going to be winner in the early morn or the last Presidential election. Sorry, I don’t believe polls or the MSM that is so enamored with Barack “white man’s greed” Obama.
I love some of the comments here by liberals, they lash out with every imaginable stereotype against what they call “right wingers” when in fact they are lashing out against their own country. Some of these moronic mis-educated fools try to credit their college “education” as an end all to any argument. Lib: It’s not our fault that you were brain-washed to hate our country. I have a real masters degree from a highly rated university and I still don’t hate my country. Guess what? I don’t even own a bible, but I know trash when I see it.
Gary – you are entitled to your opinion, but it is just that your opiniion. You do not speak for all vets, nobody does. I am not a vet, but have friends in the war who believe in what they are doing and have served just about everywhere, from Bosnia to Iraq. I have never heard any of them complain, in fact they are proud of their service and their country. You can have an all volunteer military. That is in fact what makes ours the best. A draft would only bring in unequipped people to the military.
I am grateful that you served our country, but I agree anti American films are just the left wing extremists trying to force their socialist agenda on society, nothing more, nothing less. That statement is fact and cannot be disputed.
Honest to God, if another film company or critic cries about box office for Iraq War films I will pop my cork.
As with most of the comments here, Hollywood just doesn’t get it. What we are sick of is the leftist, Soros, anti-American, insulting, inacccurate garbage posing as “art”. Blech.
Fight the terrorists who hate us and want us dead. Show that America is great, our military is great, and does the things that it takes to protect freedom even when the liberal idiots don’t get it, and we can have a $300 million blockbuster war movie
“AMERICANS SUPPORT THE WAR!
NOT evidence of this:
1) George W. Bush’s approval ratings”
If I came to your work place and trash talked you to your boss and you weren’t able to defend yourself you’d have a low standing too, provided I came across like an “authority” on you.
“2) Poll after poll indicating up to 2/3rds of Americans want a troop pullout”
Sorry, I don’t believe polls put out by a biased media.
“3) The Democrats taking control of Congress in 2006″
Most were conservative Democrats who to date have had no affect on congress. Have you forgotten we are still in Iraq? Have you seen their “polls”?
“4) Support of the war considered one of John McCain’s greatest liabilities among independent voters”
Refer to my response to #2 in regard to media.
“5) The popularity of books critical of war planning”
If one is to understand one’s enemy they should study them. Read the Koran lately?
You people miss the point completely. It’s the overseas market that is driving Hollywood these days. They could care less what the US audience has to say concerning their leftist movies. They have strong appeal in foreign countries. So if badmouthing the US makes them two to three times as much in foreign markets as they can in the domestic market, we’ll continue to see these types of movies being made. Why do you think most of the anti-American quotes made by Hollywood types are from the foreign press? They love them because they can be used as propaganda to strengthen their own leftist governments.
Why are all of these hippies posting? Go die somewhere please, we’re sick of you and your self-indulgent generation, do you get it? We don’t care about you!
all of these right-wing idiots say the exact same thing over and over again. Maybe you should get an education and try thinking for yourselves.
As an ex-soldier and after treating too many psych patients at the VA, I feel qualified to say that most free-thinking intelligent soldiers are against this war. Get a clue people. A large volume of repetitive posts spewing idiotic propaganda garbage only makes you all look dumber.
I didnt see the movie because the trailers looked boring. It had nothing to do with my thoughts about the war.
This thread really shows the power of the Drudge Effect as far as number of posters.
Why did “Black Hawk Down” do so well? The overall situation wherein the movie was set was even more screwed-up than Iraq. Simple: Because the movie portrayed the sad and heroic story of the people who fought and died and lived under the most extreme of circumstances. Hollywood’s current crop of crap simply puts some pretty people in front of us on a screen to emote yet another screed against Bush, the US, and most everything that is not leftist-American. I don’t know why they even bother with a cast – they could save a lot of money and just have their screed scroll down the screen with a burning American flag as the background. They would make no less money.
Stop Loss has been used since the Civil War. It was used in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, GW1 , Bosnia etc.
I’m a retired Army vet. You don’t like the terms, you don’t sign the contract. It’s that simple.
Our government is broken. I love how you guys quickly call anyone who doesn’t support you “Anti-American”. What makes you any more American than the rest of us? If you say that supporting your government 100% regardless of right or wrong is being American than you need to brush up on your history; this government was built on the pre-tense that everything should be heavily debated.
Anyone who cannot see that this war was a mistake is blind. Yes, only 4 thousand US troops have died; less people than happened in 9/11. But these are not our only causalities.

–noun, plural -ties.
1. Military.
a. a member of the armed forces lost to service through death, wounds, sickness, capture, or because his or her whereabouts or condition cannot be determined.
b. casualties, loss in numerical strength through any cause, as death, wounds, sickness, capture, or desertion.
Current our wounded is up in the 110k range! Oh Noes though, it must be anti-american to mention that fact that it sucks that such a large percentage of our brothers and sisters going off to war are coming back mentally or physically handicapped. Or the fact that we are paying them mcdonalds wages to give up their lives and fight in a war. Or the fact that we are turning around and doubling the length of their campaigns.
I’m not saying we should pull-out immediately either, that’s the sad part. We can’t, we’ve created a terrorist haven. If there’s one thing that was good about Saddam he didn’t like terrorists because they threatened to take power away from him.
So in summary, we went riding high on the wave of anti-terrorism, put our country into a recession while damaging our military heavily only to create what will likely end up a terrorist state.
If fact based opinions are anti-American, then I guess Stop-Loss as well as all of these others movies trying to bring to light are anti-American too.
Real Americans are “staying away in droves”!
Mamet has shown you the way Hollywood.
Show some fortitude. Follow this muse.
“Interesting comments… I don’t think Hollywood is out of touch – they just happen to be ahead of many of you.
Don’t dumb down movies to appeal to the idiotic masses – that’s what there are movies like Die Hard or Saw 5.”
Well salcido I don’t think talking down to people is a way sway their opinion. Do you hold in contempt those who have not completed a college education? Do you see yourself as being surperior? Am I to assume that you view the “idiotic masses” so unintelligent that they cannot discern when they are being insulted? With such a feeling of elitism and superiority, I am surprised that you are not supporting Hillary. Jackass…yeah, how’s that for a response?
I hope that all the readers of this thread notice how the majority of the liberal Marxist commentors devolve to name calling and belittling the posters motives.
Thats the lib way. Do not argue facts, just name call.
That being said, in no way does Hollywood get a dime of my money for this trash.
Like most of the commentors, I purposefully see movies that have a positive message about this country.
May God bless our troops and the families of the dead and injured.
Hollywood is well aware that films like, Valley of Elah, Stoploss, Jarhead, etc., will not make money. They don’t care about that. The newspapers don’t care that they are taking losses. Pushing the goals of communism in America is all they care about.
Here is a partial list of the Common Goals of Communism in America as of 1963:
**************************************
U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the U.S. would be a demonstration of moral strength.
Permit free trade between all nations regardless of communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
Provide American aid to all nations regardless of communist domination.
Set up East West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.S.
Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the United Nations.
Promote the United Nations as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces.
Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
Do away with loyalty oaths.
Capture one or both of the political parties in the U.S.
Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda.
Get control of the teachers associations.
Gain control of all student newspapers.
Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.
Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them censorship and a violation of free speech and free press.
Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures and TV.
Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as normal, natural and healthy.
Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with social religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a religious crutch.
Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principles of separation of church and state.
Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only a minor part in the big picture.
Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the communist apparatus.
Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents.
Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American traditions; that students and special interest groups should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political and social problems.
*********************************
Maybe now you have a little more insight as to what Hollywood is doing. We may have taken down the Soviets, but not before they were able to inject the virus of communism into our society.
In the words of a very wise man
“Hollywood needs a nice big cup of shut-the-Fuck-UP!”
ANON Quote
I love the write up on Stop Loss. My favorite line was “No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet. It’s a shame because it’s a good movie that’s just ahead of its time.”
How about a little reality. Noone wants to see an “Anti-Iraq War movie”. When are the people of Hollywood going to get in touch with America. Make us movies that entertain! We are more than capable of thinking for ourselves. Put this POS in the same “single facing” space in Blockbuster, and make another Die Hard.
The smart money guys in Hollywood are supposed to keep their finger on the pulse of society and make money by putting out compelling films which people want to see. Every Iraqi war/ political film with a liberal slant has lost money. Are these guys so ideologically driven that they are blinded to the losses? Or are they so removed from mainstream America so as to think they are reflecting the mainstream? Samuel Goldwyn made money and built the film industry by producing films that didn’t reflect his personal experience or backround but a home and hearth America and family. All one need do is look at the $100,000,000 recent films to see what still sells. National Treasure, Pirates, Harry Potter should be the template not Lions for Lambs. At some point the checkbook should control. Perhaps some insight is given by the Academy Award winners. Interesting to the film insiders but not big at the box office. The Film Industry is not as bright as it thinks it is.
To Jeff
Thank you for your response to me in a very respectful way.
And you are right, its only my opinion based on my experience and I do agree I do not speak for all vets.
I retired from the Military after 24 years from 63 to 87. Never in the worst of Vietnam did people act as Hollywood think they did, or should. The left is Histrionic as well as Co-dependent in their abnormal personality disorder as a Subculture. Why does Hollywood want to celebrate the negative and falsehood?
It draws from no experience or even an original thought. When one of them gets an idea or attention, they all follow in suit because their business is getting attention ANY WAY THEY CAN. Even negative attention is some attention.
Any argument about morality from this group is like a serial killer bragging that they gave to charity. Select the morality, and a sin, and forget all the rest. This is like the same serial killer talking about cruel and unusual punishment. Then use Cognitive Dissidence to explain away why NO person cares to pay to see a lie. What needs to happen is that introspection into the left’s hatred, needs to take place. Then face reality and truth about themselves as to why they think they need that much attention to exist, and why they keep trying to play god…!
Hollywood will soon be replaced by the internet and independent films anyway…don’t sweat it.
Hey NSR, I served three years active duty in the United States Navy. What did YOU do for your country?
1972 – 1975
USS John S McCain DDG-36
San Diego, Calif.
All the panty waist Liberals in Hollywood expect me… a real man to give them money for a movie that is a total lie. And if I don’t go give my money and see it then they say I dont understand something… I would like to meet any of them on a battlefield just once and shake some sense into their pea brain. Then they would understand the true meaning of FREEDOM and PATRIOTISM istead of TURN TAIL AND RUN. If MEN DONT FIGHT THEY DIE. And they would die first, because I know how to kill an enemy and not lay down for them. Screw all you PINKO LIBS! Move somewhere else….
“You had better watch a 9-11 doc like “Loose Change””
That about says it all about you…whackjob.
Tell me CT nutter, did the US really put men on the moon?
If Hollwierd wants to make anti American war movies then they should take all the America hating movie stars and directors to the Middle East. Give all the terrorist a big hug and make movies with them. Hollwierd you have been out of step with America after the Vietnam war. No I am not advocating war but I’ll be damn if I am going to sell out my country for a few rounds of cheap applauses and pop corn.
When will Hollywood wake up and give us a new John Wayne?
I want to say thank you to all the support. For the continual ripping of the left wing idiots. They are clueless. I am so proud of all of you for speaking up against hollywood/lib idiots…..you made 20+ years 3 wars all worth it !!!!!!!!
Transformers was very pro-military and it was a huge money maker. Get a clue Hollywood!

If Hollywood would try being honest in their portrayel of the US military they would do much better. According to Hollywood, every soldier is either a crazed sociopath or a poor uneducated victim. That’s just not the way it is.
The other issue with this movie, and all Irag war movies, is something that Hollywood is too stupid to understand, but the American people can see clearly. If we pull out of Iraq now we’ll be leaving a civil war and chaos in our wake. There will be genocide by the Shiite Muslims against the Sunni Muslims and thousands will be slaughtered in the streets. That’s why 60% of the US population is against the war, but only 20% want us to get out now. They’re smart enough to see the reality of the situation.
Even if Obama or Hillary win, we’ll be in Irag for years to come. It doesn’ matter what campaign promises they make about withdrawal, they won’t abandon 25 million Iraqi people at the gates of hell.
Frightening Ignorance:
“The depth of ignorance in this country explains how Bush got elected [In 2004. In 2000, his daddy’s Supreme Court gave it to him.]”
Actually this comment serves to underscore your point, in that it shows your ignorance of the electoral process. (BTW, you didn’t mention how the Florida Supreme Court wrongfully and unconstitutionally tried repeatedly to overstep its authority in a matter that was firmly under the aegis of the Florida legislature, and that their decision was badly flawed and unsupportable, which was why it was immediately overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Or exactly why you feel that it was his “daddy’s” Supreme Court? Name Bush Sr. appointees who voted to overturn the Florida court decision?)
At any rate, had the U.S. Supreme Court chosen not to hear the case, a motion would have been introduced in Congress to void the results of the Florida election by refusing to recognize their Electors. The matter would have been resolved by the House of Representatives, in which, at the time, Republicans held a significant majority. Bush at no time was in danger of not becoming President.
The reason he won the election was because he won the popular vote in Florida. After each “revised” recount (hanging chads and so forth), his margin of victory increased.
People who continue to claim that Gore won the 2000 election are either ignorant or merely perversely spiteful in attempting to perpetuate this myth. They are liars.
I don’t even go to movies anymore because they generally portray the lowest of values, glorify the gay lifestyle, and are subtly or outright anti american and trash the euro-male.
Well, at least MTV films has excellent European cinema revenues to look forward to with “Stop-Loss”. That should give those bleeding heart, obscenely rich, Prius driving douche bags enough cash to keep the punch bowl full of cocaine at the next big shindig.
David – X Soldier,
Thank you for serving next to me. But you are missing the larger point – with the exception of the PVT or 2nd LT, no one wants to face war and the possible loss of one’s own life or the loss of a friend. We do it because we agreed to, it is that simple. We go back because we don’t want anyone else leading our men or do not want to be part of LOSING A WAR! You know this, you work with these men and woman that are battered and broken, but WANT TO GO BACK. I work with a young man that lost a leg (he is at Walter Reed), he wants to go back to BUDS or at least go back. MOST, not ALL, of the young men and woman with him WANT TO GO BACK to WIN.
We are not right-wing nuts – you know this. We joined for the adventure and education, we re-enlisted because we learned something that the public education system failed to teach us – our history and the beauty of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution – what true sacrifice meant to our forefathers. When we served overseas, we saw first-hand what crappers Europe and the rest of the world have become and we learned to LOVE OUR COUNTRY. When she was attacked due to our weakness shown in Somalia (I was part of TF RANGER) when a fully operational force was taken off the field after meeting our stated goal of taking down 24 PC’s (due to socialist weakness and the ignorance of the press), we were outraged and wanted some payback. The traditional war was a walk in the park, but we all realized building two nations from the dirt and sand of the middle ages was a difficult challenge; one with many set backs and victories. We all would love to walk away from those holes and let them kill themselves, BUT they have demonstrated a propensity to come here and kill our civilians. This we cannot abide and will continue to enlist and re-enlist until we leave their bodies buried along side the pigs for which they are equaled.
Airborne! – dive-dive!
I dare anyone in Hollywood, who is responsible for all these hate-America first films that they excrete, to read all the postings above and not see that they have a sickness. It is a sickness of the mind of the same kind that they blame republicans and/or conservatives of having…where they all think alike and drink deeply from the same tired old socialist kool-aid. Hey Hollywood: you represent america to the world — try getting it right for a change! I am so embarassed by the drivel that they spew out on a good day, much less when they TRY to hurt America. It’s like they want to be accepted by the hate-America Euro-trash so much that they have sold out their own country. Sad.
I support the filmmakers. To that end, I believe they should stop making films, because this will only lead to box-office rejection. As a non-filmmaker, but a college educated one, I know for a fact how terrible life is for filmmakers to be exploited by international corporations for the purpose of promoting their greed. Filmmaking immorally attracts only stupid people who didn’t work hard in school and so got “stuck” in the movie business. It’s not their fault they make bad movies; and the only rational, moral solution is to STOP ENDLESS FILMMAKING NOW!
Hollywood has no interest in making a movie about Iraq. They are only interested in making movies about how they want you think about Iraq.
I did my 20 in the military so I’ve seen my share. Military personnel are just like the rest of the nation: Mostly good, hard working folks who want the best for the their families and their country. However, there are also losers, whiners, and criminals.
The media is never going to tell you all the good that has come from our presence and help in Iraq. That doesn’t sell controversy. They won’t tell you why we need a strong presence and a strong democratic friend in the Middle East. They want everyone ignorant and angry, tuned in to the new lies for the evening. I met several well known journalists in Somalia and I learned just how ignorant and opinionated they really are.
Ignore Hollywood and help your neighbor.
Funny how all you medicated folks with Bush Derangement Syndrome are so worried about how many have died in “this useless war” but could care less about how many thousands of women and children are killed each year by drunk drivers and lives destroyed by alcoholism. Take your phoney sincerity and your ZERO years of service to this country and flush it – the smell is atrocious.
wow….. I guess the 25% of people that still think GWB is doing a good job actually do have computers, and they all seem to be posting here.
I liked the movie, and it is a movie, not real life, but it seems like this group overall has confused reality with movie making. I guess that should not surprise me, they are believing the fairy tale in Iraq.
I find it ironic that all you anti-democratic, warmongering, irrational psychopaths are telling the majority of Americans who are fed up with this president and the lies of his wealth-hoarding party leaders to “leave this country if we don’t like it.” You all sound like you’d be more happy in a place without freedom for real ideas. Try the Middle East, and let the grown-ups have their democratic republic where we can discuss facts openly and not be bombarded with “HANG THE DIRTY HIPPIES! MAKE MOVIES WITH LOTS OF FLAG WAVING AND WHERE BROWN PEOPLE GET BLOWED UP! USA! USA!” Yeah, that’s patriotism alright. Tools.
To the guy who said Saddam hated terrorists, how are things in lala land? New, from the WSJ:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120631495290958169.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
Five years on, few Iraq myths are as persistent as the notion that the Bush Administration invented a connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda. Yet a new Pentagon report suggests that Iraq’s links to world-wide terror networks, including al Qaeda, were far more extensive than previously understood.
Naturally, it’s getting little or no attention. Press accounts have been misleading or outright distortions, while the Bush Administration seems indifferent. Even John McCain has let the study’s revelations float by. But that doesn’t make the facts any less notable or true.
The redacted version of “Saddam and Terrorism” is the most definitive public assessment to date from the Harmony program, the trove of “exploitable” documents, audio and video records, and computer files captured in Iraq. On the basis of about 600,000 items, the report lays out Saddam’s willingness to use terrorism against American and other international targets, as well as his larger state sponsorship of terror, which included harboring, training and equipping jihadis throughout the Middle East.
http://www.bothinonetrench.com
If they did an Iraq movie about the hunt for Uday and Qsay it would be a hit but the leftist producers have their heads stuck up their asses. A story starting out with Qsay robbing the Iraqi central bank the day before the Iraq war to the final confrontation in the house where they are about to eat it, while having the story played out in the eyes of an army general who had the mission to catch them would make millions. But the idiot producers will never do it.
ZTedster, you can go one step farther. The Communist Party is ruling both houses of congress, President Bush, and all 50 states.
All of the blind patriotism and mindless drivel being espoused here is simply mind boggling.
Here’s a few facts for you
The majority of the active military things this war wasn’t a good idea and we should get the hell out. So are they all “un-american” too?
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?id=1075
I have a friend who was an Army MP in Iraq who signed up after 9/11. He had one of his buddies blown up in the seat next to him, sustained shrapnel wounds and has shot and killed teenagers (they were attacking his convoy so he had no choice). He’s now 22 years old and will be haunted by the hell he lived through for the rest of his life. And for what?
We are squandering our wealth for someone else’s cause
http://www.speaker.gov/blog/?p=714
With the amount of money spent on this war we could have solved literally all of our govts. current financial problems.
Our economy is in the crapper, our basic freedoms are being undermined by violations of civil liberties and we are sending our best and brightest into a pointless war but some of you dumbasses want to keep going down the same path.
I LOVE AMERICA, but if Americas voters dont pull their collective heads out of their asses, we will destroy ourselves. And it will be deserved.
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
Abraham Lincoln
Im tired of reading comments about Hollywood being out of touch and unamerican because it produces a movie about the stop loss policy. Its about time someone took a stand against this blatantly un-american procedure that has left thousands of soldiers with limited pay, few benefits, and 4 extra tours of duty after their contract to protect this country ended. There is nothing un-american in criticizing the breach of contract that any american other than our soldiers could sue about for millions. Its practically slavery. Being allowed to stand up for the right is what makes America great, not our powerful military. Thank you Hollywood for being American. 70% of Americans agree with you on the war (no that doesn’t mean we are ready to go to a movie about it.)
That Hollywood keeps churning out these awful and depressing motion pictures that depict America as the most despicable nation on the planet is astonishing. The sole purpose of these productions, ostensibly, is to “awaken the conscience of the American people to the evils of the Bush administration”, and in their deluded mindset, insist that we all share in their misguided views. I can remember earlier times when movies were made to entertain, make money , and not endlessly attempt to portray us all as stupid rednecks who cannot understand that Hollywood has our best interests at heart. They forget, we can and do exact our revenge by staying as far away from the box office as possible. Obviously, they are still not learning.
Hollywood should make a movie getting ride of the anti-American views that they think that America will buy from them. Name the movie “Stop Loss” because that is what they should do. I never go to see those anti-America movies no matter how great Hollywood back slapping people says it is. There dislike for their nation is going to bring the downfall of Hollywood, and you know what? I could care less. The people who financially back those ant-American movies love the limelight that they get in Europe, but are fools here in America because it is money down the tubes.
“If you’re 20 and not a liberal, you don’t have a heart. If you’re 30 and not a Conservative, you don’t have a brain.”
If everyone who is against the Iraq war is part of the “anti-American left” that means that the majority of the US population is part of the Anti-American left. I guess word of this development hasn’t filtered out yet to the militia training camps in the mountains or the local bars where drunken, pot-bellied louts cheer on Bush for causing the deaths of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.
Stop-Loss was heavily sold on MTV (who produced it) from the angle of “joining the military will interfere and ruin your lives”. They tried to sell it from that angle by portraying young, attractive Americans just trying to have fun and romance but that darn military will not let you enjoy yourselves and just keep drawing you back after you thought you already served etc. and wow, I should have read my contract and done rudimentary research. It was aimed squarly at military recruiting with of course the usual anti-Bush and surrender in Iraq themes thrown in.
This attempt was a slight modification of the previous ones but still leftist and anti-American. It wasn’t enough to fool the kiddies though who have been bombarded with this crud for years now and have a good detection radar about these type of films and they do not want to see them.
Hollywood loves to portray the military as it views the military; and honestly is surprised when their view is not accepted. What is that definition of insanity -
“Contrary to what Hollywood film makers seem to think, Most Americans do support the war and the soldiers fighting it.”
This is a factually incorrect statement. The majority of Americans are against the war and believe Iraq was a mistake. That’s an actual real fact.
Also, I am perplexed by people calling the left anti-American. If they were truly anti-American wouldn’t they shut up and let America be destroyed rather than trying to save American lives?
The right wingers that have hijacked this thread are doing nothing but spitting pure hatred and venom. Why so angry?
Free Advice To Hollywood on How to Produce a Movie about an Unpopular War that Would Yield a Decent Box Office:
Mel Gibson
‘We Were Soldiers Once…’
Oh, wait, the troopers in that movie were neither psychopaths (’Redacted’) or pitiable victims (’everything else’). Wouldn’t make it past the pitch meeting, and the writers wouldn’t have clue, anyway.
Ever since 300 made mega dollars, Hollywood has refused to make a pro-war film for the masses. I credit 300 with changing the debate in America, which allowed the surge to go forward, which has now improved prospects in Iraq.
AirborneBubblehead – well said. No doubt there are some soldiers against the war; there are soldiers of all stripes, but I think anybody familiar with the military and the retention rates would argue your viewpoint. This is not Viet Nam, as much as some people wish it were. If you’d like to guest-blog, click on my name to get to my site. Drop me a line through the contact page. Airborne!
to GFM2008:
you are a blithering ignorant hater of America
I thought this was an industry site. Where did all of these right wing loons come from?
The Iraq themed movies are playing well with Americans because alot of American heroes are being ignored. Alot of American good deeds in Iraq are being ignored. Hollywood can’t seem to get that not everyone in this country is like them. This come from someone who lived in Hollywood for 5 years as well as several other cities in the country. I was astounded at how oblivious (or maybe the right word is numb) the Hollwood community is to the rest of the country.
Keep pumping out Superhero Movie, Scary Movie genre as well as the Horton hears a Who/Shrek stuff. We all still have a sense of humor. We’re just not into exacerbating our misery.
I have a great idea for a hollywierd movie that the whole other side of America would like to see! How about a realistic movie on WMDs going off in Boston, New York, San Francisco, and even Los Angles (including Hollywierd). The story could be islamic terrorists with the financial and technical assistance of Iran, destroying these left-wing sludge holes and how the rest of America simply says “Gee, Guess they got what they deserved.”
To David x-soldier, in response:
“As an ex-soldier and after treating too many psych patients at the VA, I feel qualified to say that most free-thinking intelligent soldiers are against this war.”
With this statement I lost all respect for you. As a retired disabled vet I can say that VA health care service does not gain you status with me.
The VA is a perfect example of what Hillary/Obama care will be; a bunch of government doctors shuttling ex-servicemen from department to department in order to justify all their existences but by the time the rounds are made the patient has had 0% treatment.
I seriously doubt true servemen confide their Iraq war opinions to you or any of your VA cronies.
For all of you liberals who think that there is no purpose for this war and think that the military are poor dumb people who are simply sheep, here a solution for you. Go to your enlightened, brave liberal representatives and senators and DEMAND that they end this war. If the war is SO wrong and the Democrats have the majority in Congress it should be no problem. So, where are they? Why aren’t they ending it? You poor pathetic slobs, If you think Obama or Hillary or any other liberal is going to be seen as the one that retreats from a war or wants to be held accountable for the slaughter that will follow, you are even bigger idiots than your choice of candidates suggest. Let’s see you get one of your candidates to give a hard solid date as to when they will end it. They won’t because they aren’t going to end it. They’re going to use this bilge to get you lemmings to vote for them and then afterward we’ll hear “Oh, it was worse than we thought” or “There were things that George Bush didn’t tell us” to explain them staying there. You people are children.
Conservatives hate America and are conspiring to bring down America economically with multibillion dollar insupportable wars
Conservatives hate the troops and are deliberately putting them in harm’s way to be murdered and maimed for a war manufactured by America-hating Americans
Re: “Stop-Loss”
Wanna know why Hollywood execs are just like the insane? Because they both repeat the same actions over and over again, vainly hoping they’ll get different results.
Oh well, we know we live in a great country when bonafide idiots make comfortable livings serving up verifiable tripe. Hell, if they were really as smart as they think they are, they’d just stick to porn–it’s more entertaining…and honest.
Too many conservative commentators on this post trying to put a positive gloss on a large-scale blunder. You can’t always cry patriotism on the part of soldiers to underscore this huge mistake. Frankly, there is not much positive to say about WAR.
First they have a string of flops depicting anti-american Iraq war themes. Now Oliver Stone will tackle an anti-Bush movie. I predict it too will be a flop.
Al Gore is our true President
Bush will always be history’s fake president
We still have troops in Bosnia but HoWood doesn’t make any hitpiece hate America movies about that. Why? It’s ideology, stupid! Bosnia is Clinton’s war i.e. a Democrat war. The war on terror is Bush’s war i.e. a Republican war. So they are not really anti-war, they are simply anti Republican, Christian, conservative, patriot, America. That’s why, when there is a Republican president, the only soldiers Democrats love are dead soldiers so they can use the body count to promote their political agenda. Frakin commies.
The basic premise behind the move Stop Loss is wrong.
Stop loss is not and was not a violation of anybodys enlistment contract. Its spelled out for every single soldier at enlistment that they can be held over for additional time or even called back to active service once they ETS.
The movie might do better if it hadnt been based on a lie in the first place.
It’s hilarious how the Bushies and the Obama-bots are exactly the same – they’re hysterical, shrill, self-righteous, blind followers, simpleton loonies who only see the world in a cartoonish us vs. them mentality
wow….look at all these comments so quickly entered. Looks like the ’silent majority’ is starting to clear it’s throat a little, eh? FINALLY!!
There is SO much evidence that the left-wing media is SO out of touch. Just take a look at print newspaper subscription trends…the ONLY one holding up is the Wall Street Journal. Just take a look at cable TV viewer trends…FOX CONSISTENTLY beat the heck out of the so-called ‘mainstream’ channels like MSNBC, etc.
I could not agree more with the comments speculating that if Hollywood really wanted a hit, instead of sending political messages, they should produce a (good) film showing true American Heroes, and casting a positive light on the vast majority of our good-intentioned people in uniform that are in the process of MAKING HISTORY BEFORE OUR EYES. But, alas, the short-sighted, negativity-obsessed liberals can only see things one way – their biased, wrong-headed condemnation of anything and anyone that doesn’t measure up to their elitist left-wing views of the world and our place in it. To them, ‘Proud to be an American’ is treated like ‘One Nation Under God’, and they would want it removed from our nations conscience forever. To that I say: ‘Up Yours’.
In WW2 Hollywood made movies promoting America & presenting the Axis of Evil as bad guys! America was proud to be America & right or wrong we took care of #1 (us!!).
If Hollyweird even attempted to make a pro American movie these days, the ACLU & their bed-buddies at CAIR wouldn’t let it even get out of the starting gates!
Look what’s happening on the other side of the world for that guy who produced a short film called “Fitna” … it’s anti “bad-guys”!! And these “bad-guys” threatened to kill its producer & the lives of anyone who broadcasts it even on the internet!! That’s the freedom Hollywood wants you to have by making movies like these!
If you don’t approve of what 90% of America believes in (talking to the minority 10%) .. go conquer your own country and make it what you want .. us 90% aren’t going down without a fight!!
The reason no Iraq war movie has done well is because they have all been anti-American themed, with the exception of The Kingdom (which tried to be somewhat neutral).
“It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet. It’s a shame because it’s a good movie that’s just ahead of its time.”
Wow, just wow. How big of an ego and how much of a self-absorbed elitist do you need to be to make a statement like that?
Today’s Hollywood can’t make a pro-America, pro-democracy movie any more than Samuel Goldwyn could have made a movie like “Redacted”. They don’t think in any way, even remotely, in a way that would be able to produce such a movie. Hollywood is incapable of thinking that their politics might be wrong and they are never, ever going to change. You guys keep saying “make a pro-America movie and it’ll make money!” Yes, it would make money but Hollywood is insulated from the concepts of profit and loss by the huge conglomerates they are a part of. If anything, they’re a valuable tax write-off. They don’t have to make money and they can indulge their insulated richboy, nitwit cynicism for decades.
for all you retards that say stop loss isnt anti american . wake up. its slander against our military and just another oppertunity for Holly Weird to say “F**K YOU” to the president and America in general. You left wingers are retards.
When will you conservative people wake up and understand that liberals aren’t “anti-American.” We’re PRO-AMERICAN. Unjust wars, lies, innocent deaths, soldiers dying for nothing, and illegal military action are UN-AMERICAN. Bring the troops home now!
Look, Stop it with the “America Sucks” movies already. People don’t want to hear it. Some people on here have argued “It’s not Anti-American because it’s all true” … Look, whether it’s true or you believe it’s true, people don’t want to hear it.
It’s like telling someone their mother is ugly and then saying “I didn’t mean any offense, I was just telling the truth.”
You know what. Nobody’s mother is ugly and Americans love America no matter how much you might think it sucks.
Do you Hollywood’ers want to make money or do you want to spend all you money trying to convince us that our mother is ugly.
You’re going to go broke and we’re going to get p’d off.
“Anti-American Left”?
I am as left winged as they come and I love my country.
Loving a tyrant that has destroyed our currency our markets and our military does not make you an American it makes you a tool.
And from what I gather this country is full of them.
I’ve just got to laugh. What planet do these movie reviewers hail from? Iraq movies tank becuae they are all, for the most part, anti American and most Americans are not. Why can’t someone just make an Iraq war movie portraying America for what it really is…. unique and decent and the best thing to come down the pike of human history since Eden.
If it means much, films that don’t do well at the Box Office will most likely do well on DVD and on future media. This could very well be the case.
Not quite “Citizen Kane,” but perhaps a time capsule find for 50 years from now?
“When will you conservative people wake up and understand that liberals aren’t “anti-American.” We’re PRO-AMERICAN. Unjust wars, lies, innocent deaths, soldiers dying for nothing, and illegal military action are UN-AMERICAN. Bring the troops home now!”
John, you fail to understand that actions always speak louder than words.
Well, this was linked from the Drudge Report, so the comments are not surprising. The article’s analysis is right and the commenter’s are wrong. I’m liberal, against the war, opposed to the President and don’t want to see a movie on the Iraq War. A lot of impressive casts have floated by and I’ve yet to watch any of them, even on video. It’s because it’s too current and the topic, too divisive. It’s a poor situation and I’d rather watch a movie that didn’t remind me of it.
Anything that us average Americans see as the least bit non-patriotic turns us off completely, If we want to see anti-government screed, we’ll watch the news. If there was a positive movie focusing on the patriotism, valor, and humanitarianism of our soldier’s, than you can bet it would be a blockbuster.
Hmm,
Hollywood continues to put out anti-war films that lose money.
They don’t learn from their mistakes.
They insist they are right and America doesn’t understand.
They vow to continue against all rational analysis to the contrary.
And ironically what is it they want us to believe?
That America is fighting a losing war.
That we don’t learn from our mistakes.
That we insist we are right despite evidence to the contrary.
And we vow to continue fighting despite rational analysis.
saw Stop-loss last night. excellent film. President Bush should be ashamed of himself.

This broad has the IQ of a duck.
Stop Loss is a legitimate part of a military contract. Every enlistee is told about it. This whole notion that it “isn’t fair” is ridiculous. No one put a gun to anyone’s head and made them join the military. It is made very clear to everyone joining the military that EVERY enlistment for EVERY branch of service is 8 years. So if you do a two year contract, you spend 6 sears in the IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve). EVERY contract specifies that you can be pulled out of the IRR at any point, hence the concept of Stop Loss. Any member of the military that bitches about this is a moron. The signed on the line and raised their hand to serve. Soldiers don’t get to choose which wars to fight in. When you join the military you are volunteering to enforce policy, not dictate it.

John,
If both chambers of Congress vote for a bill and the president signs it, it is called a law – it is not illegal. You insult all of us when you make such ignorant statements. We are not fighting an illegal war, you ASS! I am not taking part in an illegal action. If I were, I am a criminal – thanks for the support, pal! An enterprise acting illegally falls under RICO – are you saying that Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and BARAK OBAMA are part of an illegal enterprise? Yes, Obama, he voted for continued funding – he would be an accessory after the fact. You people amaze me – the illegal war thing was wrong when it was first coined IN THE 60’s. Hi, were in the 21st century now.
Supporting the troops, but not the war means you want us to lose. To lose, that means more of us have to die – IDIOT!
Please, keep your support.
Look how good Transformers, a relatively pro-military movie did in the box office.
The Pink Mafia in Hollywood has tried for years to sell the “America is a big bad homophobic bully” agenda in the movies, with films like Platoon, Jarhead and now Stop-loss. If you are a screenwriter and had a script about two gay soldiers (or a whole platoon) who wanted to have gay weddings while on the front lines, with lots of graphic gay sex scenes, they would be beating down your door to make the film. People are tired of the drivel coming out of the movie industry, which is why so many indie films do so well. We don’t want to be preached to, especially after paying $10 for it.
It is important to understand that anti-american movies like stop loss are not made for the theater money. They are made to be shown on cable channels over and over and over until every American, especially young Americans have been exposed to the propaganda repeatedly. Ask yourself why the environmently themed action movies of Steven Segal get shown ad-nauseum ? The movies suck, Steve Segal sucks, but the leftist media love the America is run by evil nature destroyers and good people fight against America – basic marxist propaganda.
Sorry, I didn’t realize that I had stumbled upon a Fox News message board.
“It’s hilarious how the Bushies and the Obama-bots are exactly the same – they’re hysterical, shrill, self-righteous, blind followers, simpleton loonies who only see the world in a cartoonish us vs. them mentality”
And then there are the those who “sit on the fence” and watch it all. These people are the so called moderates that, because they have no principals, cannot form an opinion other than that they think they are superior to others.
Not just guests from Drudge…Hot Air linked here too. So much spleen! So little time! To all posting who keep mentioning “Lone Survivor,” calm down…it IS being made into a movie. It was an amazing book, and I hope they do it well. I understand the frustrations of those who see all the Iraq movies being anti war, but consider this: If Hollywood DID make a pro-America rah-rah propaganda fest a la the films of WWII, wouldn’t you all just condemn it as being made purely for profit since you’re convinced the movie industry is made up solely of troop hating commies?
“Passion of the Christ”, “Ben Hur”, “King of King”. Hollywood is always shocked to find that America is not anti religious either. There is nothing wrong with an anti-war movie; as long as it’s a good movie and it doesn’t depict America as the Monster. The propaganda movies of WWII got a little silly after a while. The phrase “unpopular war” drives me crazy. Since when has there been a popular war.
Hollywood hates America, that’s all.
Yeah, we need another Leni Riefenstahl to make the Iraq war film America really wants.
huh? 330 comments on a posting here on DHD—all full of right wing invective?
oh, that’s right—it’s an election year and the far right shock troops are out, making the internet safe for reactionary thought again…
do you all think that no one sees what you are doing?
f*ck hollywood.
We get it. You hold folks like me in utter contempt. Pro freedom, pro market, pro traditional values. We don’t think movies about gay sheepherders are “deeply emotive and classical celebrations of the human spirit.” We sneer at dismissive sneers that the reason the latest “the military creates monsters” flick doesn’t get any public viewing is because we “aren’t ready yet” for it. We *ARE* ready. We just hate it…., and you.
Go buggar yourselves, hollywood.
If tinseltown is so in touch with John Q Public, then how thier Anti-Iraq films aren’t making money? This has been consistant pattern if the directors are trying to sway public opioin. And that’s not working. Even with the documentries that get limited releases. A very anti-Iraq films got nominated for oscars. But I would rather see 21 than anti-iraq film that expresses opinion or try to sway it becouse they don’t want to show the facts right. The more they get it wrong in the storytelling the more anti-iraq films, films that are sympathetic with fanatical terrorists, the smart public isn’t going to buy a ticket.
How about a movie about the herosim of the American troops in Iraq. Show the evil they are up against and the courage being displayed by our troops. Don’t hold your breath. Hollywierd is infected with anti-American scum. The more money they lose the better I feel.
When Republicans see Truth, they immediately call it Anti-American. They’d rather hide from the truth than face it. Wimps.
I saw Stop-Loss last night – I dislike films that are considered “anti-war” or “anti-American” however this film was really neither of those. I think this film was well made, the actors played very realistic characters and really, there was more pro-war, pro-American themes than the opposite. The soldiers in the movie love their country and love the Army. One soldier just didn’t want to leave home again, one day after finishing his first two tours – hundreds and hundreds of troops I’m sure have felt that way. Most didn’t go AWOL I’m certain, but I think there was a lot of honesty there. Don’t judge what you think this film is about until you see it… I’ll probably pay the $9 to see it again in the theater, and then buy it once it comes out. Great cast!
Some liberal-minded poster said that the war in Iraq is “an absolute wrong”. Now one of the defining characteristics of liberals is that they deny the existence of any absolute truths; unless they be the ones they make up whenever they need one. C’mon people: the war might be relatively wrong but surely not absolutely wrong!
I think war is a really bad thing and would prefer not to have any but are you liberals saying we should let those who want to kill us do so without resistance? Is there anything on earth worth fighting to the death about? These are the deciding issues. Should the aggressive inherit the earth? Should the Darwinian conqueror rule over the rest? Should true Christians turn the other cheek and let themselves be slaughtered without any attempt to fight back? Should liberals do likewise because “all life is sacred” and “if someone wants to kill me I won’t sink to the same level; I will go submissively”? I have a pretty hard time thinking about letting people who believe in beheading men, women and children work their way to our shores and find my house where my family lives. If they play that game in their own country, what will they do when and if they come to mine?
the majority of americans are not anti-military…being here in hollywood, i a attest that the vast majority of people in the film industry,”don’t get it”. make a film, with american heroes, who are fighting our enemies (yes we do have them) and fighting for the freedoms of those less fortunate than we and you will see box office profits. t isn’t any diffrent than making “G” rated films…they make more $…get with the “program” hollyweird.
Movie Review’s by Barry Hussien O.
Stop-Loss is a movie about a liberal guy who wanted to serve his country, but then found out he actually was commited to something he did not understand, which is common since most liberal kids barely know how to read and think for themselves, that’s why I am so popular with the pot heads, anyway, this child of elightenment forgets to actuall read the fine print in his contract with America and therefore is forced to choose between fulfilling his commitments or ending up in prison or even being on the lam, he choose the lam and finds all sort of hot liberal babes that can’t wait to bed him, because that’s all the liberal babes know how to to beside being shrill and American hating and serving up some tofu cobler, anyway, this young son of a CHE gets as much ass as he can handle because ironically all liberal girls know about safe sex, eh Ashley Dupree which they were taught in school by their communist handlers and are essentially all a bunch of Ashley Dupree’s except in the movie they provide a service to the young Lenin-grad for much less than Spitzer had to pay for, or even his blind replacement.
Thanks, I hope this tells you all you need to know about this wonderful flick = Stop-loss.
Barry Hussein O. I really am a Muslim posing as a Christian.
Hey, not for nothing, but you guys are aware that 9/11 and Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with each other, right? Bin Laden hated Hussein because Hussein was a secularist who didn’t follow orthodox Sunni Islam like bin Laden does.
Additionally, although I support our troops in Iraq, I think its only fair for everyone to recognize the bs we’d been fed. First it started out as a mission to get rid of WMDs. Then when we realized there weren’t any, it was to get rid of Saddam Hussein/ MAKE THE WORLD SAFE FOR DEMOCRACY! Come on guys. Get a grip. You can (and should) support the troops and honor their successes, but you should also realize when we’ve been faked out by a government that really dropped the ball on the reasons for going in.
OMG LIBERULES ARE SO LAAAAAEM I LOVE THE TROOPS THEY SHOULD BE STOP LOSSED BUT I DONT WANNA JOIN
ID RATHER PLAY HALO I HEAR ITS LIKE FIGHTIGN IN IRAQ
I am a 28-year licensed stockbroker in Arizona. It is extremely gratifying and quite a relief to see so many posts supporting America. Having to watch these liberal Hollywood elites bash America at any chance they get is quite disturbing and tiresome. I know I am done with Hollywood. When they speak their lips move, but I can’t hear what their saying. Frankly, I don’t care what they are saying. Thank you for reigniting my hope in America!!!
When are these friggin’ idiots in Hollywood going to get it?!?! Yes, that’s a rhetorical question.
CLUE TO HOLLYWOOD IDIOTS: NO ONE IS GOING TO SEE YOUR IRAQ MOVIES BECAUSE THEY ARE MOONBAT ANTI-WAR FILMS THAT INVARIABLY DENIGRATE OUR TROOPS!
Give me a $40 million budget and let me pick the script. I’ll find you a pro-war movie where our soldiers are the good guys and the enemy are actually (GASP!) Muslim Jihadis!!!. I’ll find one that shows our soldiers as self-sacrificing heroes and the jihadis as the brutal, fanatical animals they are.
350 million in three weeks. Guaranteed.
Didn’t you morons in Hollywood learn anything from the success of “300″?! It was a perfect allegory of the West vs. the Islamofascists, and the public both understood it and ate it up, and that’s why it did gonzo box-office. You left wing idiots in Hollywood will never get it. Keep sucking up the millions of dollars in losses at the box office with your anti-war crap. It isn’t that the country doesn’t want Iraq war movies, it’s that the COUNTRY DOESN’T WANT ANTI IRAQ WAR MOVIES!
Some producer and studio, somewhere, are going to finally figure it out, and they’re going to make a bundle when they do.
teen stupids / moronic numbskullery / relentless violence / brain-dead audiences that find this drek ‘entertainment’…….Hollywood, you’re a real winner! Keep ladling out the sewage into this cultural sinkhole called America! There’s a rising tide of under-educated, undiscriminating proto-human dimbulbs, broke-dicks and losers who will lap it up forevermore!
Guess what. I am deployed. Right now. Guess what else. I was inactive reserves, called, back, and stop-lossed. And you know what else? I just put in papers for a second extension, giving me three tours. And I may extend again. And know what? I’ll stay as long as they need me. This is my country.
If you want to whine about being in a crucial MOS then for God’s sake sign up to be a cook. But if you are in an MOS which is critical to the war effort, you are most likely proud to be here.
So the Army is stretched thin. What is YOUR solution? I just volunteered for another year as my solution.
Hollywood can make a movie that would encourage recruitment. Top Gun, Crimson Tide, Full Metal Jacket, Heartbreak Ridge, heck even Private Benjamin…. They can do it, they choose not to. They try to put politics ahead of their jobs. Well it hits them in the pocket book.
They will be paupers on the streets and still not understand this.
I was part of a stop loss and extended in 1972, This is not new. You can be recalled or extended depending on need. As far as the film goes this piece of trash needs to lose money, its a big was of time.
Open your mind america! If we dont agree with everything goes Liberalism, we are narrow minded neanderthals. Just because you think it, doesnt make it right.
The libs need this war. They dont care about dumb redneck (but attractive, like ryan phillipe) solidiers getting blown up any more than they care about poor minorities they claim to care about. They are happy things arent going smoothly (like in the movies or cable news) so they can stick it to W because he stole their election from Al Gore (who is going to jail btw for securities fraud and front-running inside of 10 years).
I love the people who accuse BIG EVIL CORPORATIONS from profiteering over the war. What about Hollywood and the news networks? I hope Bob Weinstein has to sell one of his Bentley’s after this movie flops.
Oh, the reason so many of us Righty-red-o’s on this blog? bc it has a posting on the Drudgereport.
John said, When will you conservative people wake up and understand that liberals aren’t “anti-American.” We’re PRO-AMERICAN. Unjust wars, lies, innocent deaths, soldiers dying for nothing, and illegal military action are UN-AMERICAN. Bring the troops home now!
No John, you are wrong, YOU and YOUR liberal progressive loons are EXTREMELY un Patriotic and ANTI-AMERICAN, your movement is virulently anti-american because it’s roots are based on Communism and Socialism which are incompatible with American Free Trade Liberties, stop playing with words and giving the same tired staw man arguments, come clean, which I know you never will, and declare yourself for what you are and agent of totalitarian socialism which I am sure you hope it eventually morph’s back into Stalinist communism, plain and simple, tell the truth about yourself, you hate America, you hate what it stands for and you hate people who believe in it’s principals or faith blindly, because I will tell you plainly and blindly I have faith and love for my country and it can do no wrong, it is the greatest country on earth and perhaps in the entire history of mankind, you liberals just can’t stand the fact that American is No. 1, it eats at your personal ideals that we should all be equals and the same, we aren’t, I would die for my country, but you liberals rather be equal slaves to the same collective socialist master and eek out your lives in misery like swine that you are. Come clean and cleanse yourself in the waters of truth and tell us all that you are what you are, no more Liberal Lies.
Stalin also did not want war and was anti-war, didn’t he sign a non-agression pact with the Nazi’s? so he could have plenty of time to take over half of Poland, destroy it’s Christian officer corps and then purge his onw Army, all this even before Hitler fired a single shot at the Slavs, gotta love thos socialist they sure know how to genocide and then hide it.
Stalin
i think its hillarious that these retarded left leaning movie makers are out to prove a point and do anything to hurt bush, but they end up with epic fail movies. they have to realize all of america isn’t full of hate and revenge that they have in them.
Stop-Loss is another sad attempt by liberal Hollywood to bad mouth our troops, America and isn’t a movie real American’s want to see. The whole premis of the movie is wrong. Our troops are patriots and know the “rules” when they volunteer for the military. God Bless our troops, america and our President!
People aren’t against seeing an Iraq war movie as some in this comment section think. They’re tired of people – who hide behind gates and walls of multi-million dollar houses in Hollywood, who don’t have a clue what normal people go through day-to-day, and wouldn’t go out of their way to talk to a person in the military – telling us that the troops are stupid, pawns or whatever other category they put them in. I would love to see a pro-troop movie out of this cesspool called Hollywood.
I wonder when hollywood will finally break down and make a movie about Iraq Operation Freedom that is pro-American? It is fairly unlikely they will ever make a movie that should shows the brilliant audacity of Americans who hope to free Iraq and leave a free and prosperous nation not in the grip of Islamic fanaticism.
That movie won’t be made this year. Instead the movie execs grip that their failure to date at the box office has nothing to do with anti-American scripts and themes. No one has made a pro-American movie detailing the hopes we have in Iraq.
Probably with what many of you are saying is it’s wrong. The film was made by someone who does have family in Iraq. Also for those continue to call Obama B Hussein Obama, it might pleas you to know that the candicate with the most suport form our troops overseas is in fact Barack Obama
Anyone remember COINTELPRO?
John,
When both chambers of congress vote in the affirmative (that means yes) on a bill and send it to the president and he signs it – it is called a law and it is legal unless overturned by the supreme court. So, to say this is an illegal action demonstrates ignorance.
Furthermore, to say you support me, but that I am a criminal (those that participate in illegal actions are criminals ASS!) isn’t too wise either.
You also imply that we are an enterprise acting in concert illegally – this is known as a criminal enterprise and it is covered under the RICO statute. This means you believe Hillary and Obama are part of an illegal enterprise (voting for continued funding is an accessory after the fact). Interesting.
When people like you say you support the troops, but not the war, to me, you are saying you want us to fail in the war. To fail means more of us DIE genius. Please, keep your support.
“America is not at war, the military is at war. America is at the mall.”
No John,
Filth pig commie libs like you are UN-AMERICAN! You need to stop lying to yourself and be truthful. But you and your kind are too busy perpetuating propaganda bullshit as truth to know the difference between fantasy and fact. Just because you and your mimicking parrot “subversive” friends say it is so does not make it true.
Step aside, STFU, and let better (than you) men & women who proudly serve voluntarily in our Armed Forces do their job!
Stop Loss is a perfect film for Liberals. Nothing is more liberal than whining about the way things are. Remember Jimmy Carter’s famous “malaise” speech during his presidency, where he whined that the country wasn’t doing good because everyone was in a malaise? It wasn’t his fault, it’s your fault. We will always have whiners, whose answer is let’s give up. Liberals think JFK was some sort of Liberal messiah like they think Obama is. JFK was our weakest president who almost caused WWIII (Cuban Missile Crisis) and left us in Vietnam. Obama will be the weakest President we ever had. Osama loves Obama.
Hollyweird doesn’t care if they don’t make money inthe US. They will make it up in
South Yemenoverseas markets. The comments here are a perfect example of why America has become the most hated nation on the face of the earth. It is so unbelievable that so many remain willfully ignorant of what is accruing in Iraq – there is no excuse for not knowing, all of the issues have been extremely well documented from Abu Gharib, war profiteering by halliburton/KBR, contractors indiscrimantly shooting at civilians, soldiers raping a little girl and then massacring her entire family, George Bush not understanding the difference between a Sunni, Shia, or Kurd during the first year of the war..it goes on and on.
Yet the American people don’t want to hear it, they’d rather just cover their ears and shout “LaLaLaLaLa!” while PRETENDING to be patriotic…you know, wearing a silly American flag lapel pin, watching faux news, waving their little flags.
That’s fine, the same uneducated flag wavers in middle america and the south that support the war are the same ones who will suffer most from it’s consequences. These are the same people who can’t figure out why the value of their dollar keeps going down, they can’t figure out why it costs more to make their cars go in circles during the Friday night tractor pull. They are too ignorant to realize that the cost of this war is being passed onto their little rug-rats that Marry Jo started poppin’ out when she was 17.
Yep that’s right, keep supporting a war you refuse to even read or hear about (except for the cheerleading on faux news). We’ve given Iraq right to the Iranians at the cost of 4,000 US dead (that doesn’t count the contractor deaths) and CONSERVATIVE estimates of $1 TRILLION to $3 TRILLION. What happened to that $60 billion idiot George told us it would cost?
You middle americans and southerners better educate yourselves, and fast….because you are the ones who will suffer the most from this.
Oh, and pick up a book and read about REAL PATRIOTS.
Are you guys kidding me? They were not trying to make an anti-american movie, they are just pointing out a problem that is going on and how it affects people. Relax.
These type of anti-American movies like Stop Loss are a vehicle for the director, writers and anyone else to get their “Hollywood chops”. To prove themselves to their leftest friends, also they will collect a pile of accolades and awards. It’s helpful to advance their career.
“The millions of Democrats that are so engaged during this election (go Obama!!!) are very much the audience for this film.”
That’s good to know, since nobody’s going to see this movie.
The reason why Stop-Loss didn’t work is because they offer an inherently skewed reality about the war and the people who go to it.
My first negative view on it is that EVERYONE in the military understands the terms of service. So to have a character who DOESN’T want to go back to war sounds rather pathetic.
Remember Patton? Jesus Christ! The man was a raging, stumping, killing machine MADE FOR WAR. This nonsense of “I don’t want to go back” instantly turns the MAIN CHARACTER, of all people, into a total pussy, derailing the movie like a train wreck.
My second negative view is that it offers a type of sentimentalism that has been consistently unleashed in Hollywood probably for the last decade. But the sentimentalism of the movie has NO METAPHOR, it has no LAYER. It merely squares people into GOOD vs. BAD archetypes that make me vomit.
Remember Saving Private Ryan? Yes, the soldiers in that movie talked about their private lives and the people they loved, but they NEVER EVER EVER talked about them like pussies. They were MEN. Even when Tom Hank’s character was asked by Matt Damon’s character to talk about his wife, he said: “No. That’s just for me.”
DAMN STRAIGHT!!! We’re at war. It’s none of your damn business.
And third and final negative view on Stop-Loss is NOT only the shitty title, but the VIRILITY of the super-model soldiers. Goodness, I didn’t know the American military lathered itself in grease and oil before doing something manly like shooting at enemy territory or hanging around in the yard.
Once again, from Saving Private Ryan: Do you remember Upham? Or Caparzo? Or Mellish?
THESE are the real soldiers, not Abercrombie-Looking idiots who the Studio CLEARLY casted just to attract the obnoxious girl tween demographic.
Never mind that tween girls right now are mentally raped by Hannah Montana instead.
Definitely not your War-Movie kind of person.
Great War Movies in History:
1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Patton
3. Dances With Wolves
4. Schindler’s List
5. The Thin Red Line
6. Platoon
7. Full Metal Jacket
8. Apocalypse Now
9. Born on the 4th of July
10. Black Hawk Down
11. Gladiator
Dump “Stop-Loss” crap!
Liberals are idiots. Saddam violated the cease fire agreement from Desert Storm multiple times. What do you do when someone breaks the cease fire agreement? You start firing again!
What about all the evidence of genocide against the Kurds and murder of his politcal enemies? Doesn’t that justify military action? Of course it does.
Hollywood is so left-wing, drugged out and America hating that they can’t understand why us sane members of society don’t want to go see yet another anti-Operation Iraqi Freedom anti-Global War on Terror movie.
Reading so many comments that are on the money about Hollywood’s anti-war/Bush/Republican/WalMart must be jarring to the lefties here. (Yes, I work in Hollywood. I hear the hate rants of the left in person daily).
They cannot simply dismiss the comments as “knuckledraggers” etc. Look at the numbers.Every antiwar film has bombed due to their dishonesty. The players in Hollywood are all in lockstep because that’s how they make money and stay in the game. If any Hollywood actors rock the boat and support the President, the war on terror, the military, whatever, they are lambasted. Hollywood lives in fear of the new Blacklist. Be liberal or die. Put a liberal bumpersticker on your Volvo/Beemer/Prius/Mercedes/SUV and save your job.
I certainly wish Hollywood would make an honest film about the Iraq war. I recall there being talk a couple years back about making a Fallujah film, NO TRUE GLORY. Don’t know about the story’s politics, but the title isn’t encouraging. I also recall Harrison Ford’s name being mentioned as the lead General in that story. But, given Ford’s predictable Anti-Bushisms, well…what can you hope for?
Who cares. The movie will be gone in another week. And the stockholders will be left paying for it. Meanwhile, the writers, director, actors and studio heads will continue to draw salaries that an average American will make in ten or twenty years. And if they get fired will immediately go to work for some other studio or production company. Or if worse comes to worse do TV. A no lose situation for them. So why should they care.
I saw the previews and just wasn’t interested………I’m still smarting after loosing $7 on Semi Pro
People who blindly support the illegal war & the waste of money military are dumber than bags of rocks. No one should or does take anything those drooling idiots say seriously…whatsoever. Look around, you morons. America is crumbling all around you & yes, it’s entirely the fault of the stupid sheepies like yourselves.
I’m sick and tired of hollywood bashing out military. whose side are they really on? we need to investigate to see if the saudis/islamo-nazis are secretly funding the hollywood studios to make anti-American movies and try to defeat this country from within. they know they can’t beat us on the battlefield, so they are trying to sap our morale by making anti-America, pro-terror/islam movies.
It is obvious that Hollywood is soooo out of touch with America….clearly evidenced by the drop in overall ticket sales over the last five years. Not only is the premise of this movie flawed, but it takes a program not used since ‘04 TOTALLY out of context. Yeah, yeah…..there have been a few people that have gotten hosed…..however, this movie tries to imply that this happens everywhere in the military all the time. The writers (obviously idiots…that did very little, if ANY research) want to make service to our country into this horrible event that goes terribly wrong on a daily basis. It is JUST NOT true and that is why people don’t want to spend their money and time in the theater watching something heroic (an idea that Hollywood obviously lacks) get raked across the coals. It has nothing to do with the American public “not being ready to face the realities of this war” as written in this piece……what it has to do with is the fact that Hollywood has gotten it WRONG and is on the wrong side of this issue with a majority of the American public. The people who think this is a great movie…well you are watching a fictitous rendition of how the military works….period….you are seeing something totally taken out of context to push a socialist, anti-American, anti-military, hateful agenda by these people living in GaGa land!
Who the hell are you posters supporters’ of the moron from Texas, were you living? what are you have been eating your knowledge of Hollywood is impressive must be because you are raised on corn and bologna sandwiches if you can stand a realistic war movie get your 220 pounds massive arse out of your mobile chairs and go to joint the united moron for George org.if you can stand criticism of your declining crepuscular country stop producing preachers and instead produce more engineers stop bull shit yourself about the war on terror and invest more in universities
From NSR:
“Ah, I see this post was linked from Drudge because all the crazy right-wingers are posting here, desperate to defend the America they don’t have the actual courage to fight for..”
Yeah I know, objective journalism really sucks huh? Have you ever actually wondered why Drudge is so much more popular with conservatives, despite the obviously left-leaning media swearing by it as the most thorough and balanced news outlet available? There’s plenty of leftish reports on there that we conservatives read. It’s too bad liberals can’t understand yet try to blackwall any logic not indoctrinated into them by their handlers…
It must outrage you that liberals no longer have a monopoly on mass media (like all good socialists need; they don’t do so well in open debate). Screw Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh, and Al Gore for inventing the Internet!!!
Bravo public for not going to to see another anti-american movie. Can you imagion if they made movies like this during World War II, the public would have rioted at the thearts. WAKE UP Hollywood people would love moives about the great things we are doing in Iraq……Killing bad guys, freeing a whole nation….What more patriotic than the United States Marine Corp or US Army-Navy-Air Force

Superhero Movie asked for its failure.
They Deserve This Failure
Wake up to the 21st century, boys. Or retire!
“America is crumbling all around you.” Wow, where do you live – like Detroit or Philadelphia or some other liberal city? Just don’t see it where I live or choose to vacation.
Quote by READ A BOOK:
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this stereotype! Just because I’m a Conservative from the South I’m automatically “uneducated.” ROFL
I guess I can just throw my Computer Science/Mathematics degree out the window. I’m just a hillbilly from Alabamie who can’t read or write or wear shoes LOL
Seriously, if Hollywood wants to make a *good* *realistic* Iraq movie, they need to get on the phone with Michael Yon or Mike Totten. Until then, it’s all fiction and it’s all made of fail, as we say here on Al Gore’s Intertubes.
Hoax Hogan,
It is a BOX OF ROCKS. Sheepies is not a word (that is why it was underlined). Moron was a progressive term coined during the era in which the enlightened could sterilize those less fortunate LEGALLY (as in Buck V. US). The same progressives were quoted at Wanseae as reason for the Final Solution. The US is not crumbling, those weenies that took stupid mortgages out without being able to pay for them are crumbling – and good for them too!
As for the remainder of your comments, read a book. Read the Constitution. If you are so convinced it is an illegal war, challenge the premise to the Supreme Court – they are the only ones that can overturn a LAW you ASS!
Liberals (and by the way shamefully today liberal and democrats are one and the same)just dont get it. Todays soldiers werent drafted, we volunteer. We dont like stoploss, but because of the structure of the Military today versus say Vietnam, our allegience is to our brothers in uniform. In Vietnam, draftees came and went out of units. There was little to no unit cohesion, just faces passing in the night. Today we eat, train, and live together as units. Unit cohesion is maintained. When we fight, we dont just fight as an obligation to our military contract, we literally fight for our best friends who are right beside us. If we get wounded and shipped home, we are glad to come home, but we want to be with our buddies back in the unit, because we know they arent safe. Stoploss is a fact of life, its not a pleasant fact of life, but it fits in with our desire to be with our buddies. And I think that sums it all up, ultimately we fight for each other, because we become a family. Liberals do nothing but speak as though we are in vietnam. They tell us we cant win. They tell us we are commiting war crimes. But while we are taking out a few terrorists, the liberals are comfortably at home or the mall, “supporting the troops” with their constant BS rhetoric. They do anything but support the troops, instead they send the constant message that we are a bunch of losers and from what i can tell they do this for PERSONAL POLITICAL GAIN. How disgusting is that. No our liberals at home are Americas most dangerous enemies. Being a student of history,I often wonder why, our Government does NOT prosecute these bums for sedition and treason, history is full of example of traitors who did so much less than these LOUD MOUTH DO NOTHINGS have done, and were EXECUTED for! I say Impeach the politician who refuses to prosecute these traitors withion our own gates! Hell we even have a presedential candidate who refuses to wear the TEAM uniform (American Flag)…well if you refuse to wear the uniform, you shouldnt be allowed to be the coach! Hollywood go F*ck yourselves!
Man, everytime Drudge posts this kind of stuff to his rag, you really do get the right wing crazies posting a lot of nonsense.
eleano…..your an idiot…..invest more into our universities??? where are you from….your senseless jabbering tells me you are definately not an American….go ahead and waste your time and money and see this in a theater near you……obviously a need for truth and accuracy escapes you……
I KNOW WHO Audie Murphy is from reading and MOVIES. I KNOW WHO Sgt.York is from reading and MOVIES. I KNOW who Corporal DUNHAM is from reading. I KNOW who SFC. SMITH is from reading. There seems to be a pattern here and one would think that even the Bush Hating Morons in lala land could see it. Aahaa, the definition of BLIND HATRED. What amazes me is that the money people haven’t turned off the spigot.
Another movie I will absolutely not see nor thousands of other Americans.
A few years I read about a movie about the war in Iraq that was being researched starring Bruce Willis. Bruce was going to play a medal of honor winner who lead his troops through a corridor of hell to save a couple soldiers who had been ambushed and were completely surrounded. Since then I haven’t heard a peep about the movie. It sounded like a Iraq war movie I would have seen.
Why can’t Hollywood produce a good action movie about events in Iraq e.g. the battle for Fallujah and leave the politics out of it? I think there is a large number of people who would love to see a movie which is all about action/honor/glory and leaves the politics out of it.
I go to the movies to be entertained not to be lectured or force fed other peoples views ideologies.
Jesus Christ, these comments sections alway seem to bring out a.. forgotten segment of society, its strange. I think if I had 20million lying around I would make this movie for these people:
(Written for this post)
Fade up to see a dusty arrangement of dilapidated shacks in Iraq, the sound of screaming fills
Ours ears as we enter the largest building to see a group of slimy Muslim men with verrrry long beards
Who are raping a child with blond hair (wtf?). Between the cries of pain, the girl begins to form her first
English word; HELP. Then all fucking hell breaks loose and the door gets splintered to shreds, a large man
Holding an electric gatling gun in EACH F*CKING HAND enters the room and proceeds to shoot off all the limbs
Of the attackers while somehow not killing them.
The girl is very relieved and starts dry humping them hero who laughs and says “Hold on honey, maybe when you turn 16!”
Sadly it is not over for the attackers, the hero proceeds to (very) roughly insert approximately 15 pounds of C4 into each of their anuses, wires it all together and then allows the girl to push the detonator button from the safety of his Stars and Stripes Hummer sitting outside.
MEGA HERO CREDITS ROLL over a collection of files, newspaper articles detailing how our hero got to where he is now, you see he was called into action after the evil democratic party ruined the Iraq war with their false Hollywood movies. He was doing hard time for shooting a few hippies who were smoking Marijuana near a veterans centre, promised his Freedom if he kicked some raghead ass in the Middle East, what they didn’t know was:
HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT FOR FREE
BAM
Fade up to see the first few days of the Iraq war, tanks are rolling through Baghdad for the first time and kids are throwing AAA steaks At the soldiers (Flowers are for FAGS), the soldiers are throwing them on the barrels of the tanks to cook them, which are smoking hot from the Recent battle. Susan Sarandon is nearby with Sean Penn when a bomb goes off killing them, once the soldiers realize who has died,
They all turn and give a thumbs up to the Al Qaeda members scurrying away, ahhh it’s another great day in the middle east baby!
Style guide:
-The Muslims are portrayed as slimy, unkempt, unshowered, violent, possible gay pieces of crap
-The hero must have his shirt off for most of the movie and have some kind of US flag tattooed on his chest, eagle gets bonus points
-The environment and people must look as dirty as possible while the US army and their equipment must be polished DAILY
-Democrats are portrayed as shadowy, slimy figures that scurry about the halls of Washington while the Right Wing are the gentle heroes who just
want the job done and to stop the evil doers from killing more allies.
-The Daily Show is the world’s source of fake, terrorist friendly news
-The Democrats don’t want a wall built around the USA, they want to build a free subway from Mexico City right into Los Angeles!
Anybody feel like adding more to the story?
Aside from a few “liberal idiots” this thread is quite consistent. Hollywood doesn’t have a clue. They were totally on board during WWII and it has been going down ever since. At this point they are not making “factual” movies they are making left wing talking point movies. Any reality in anything they currently turn out is somewhere in outer space.
Hollywood and journalists are such venal, supercilious, anti-American, socialist-loving, bigoted, idiots. I wish we could send them ALL to Iran or Cuba or China or any other socialist country and force them to live the rest of their petty existence working in a brick factory.
I’ve pretty much stopped going to the movies altogether. I refuse to pay $20 to be insulted. Even in “non-political” movies they’ll throw in some little insult that denegrates people living in fly over country, working a real job, Christians, conservatives, small business owners, etc.
I depise them.
Crewguy, There is an honest film about the Iraq War.
It’s called Outside the Wire
I wish more people knew about it instead of thinking Hollywood will straighten their act out eventually.
This guy goes and gets embedded long term with our troops and has made 4 documentaries about it so far.

I linked from drudge, and this is my first post on this topic. I graduated in December from Williams, a snooty liberal arts college out east (the snootiest, perhaps?). I’m leaving for basic in 2 weeks and 4 days on a 5 year enlisted combat arms contract. So, politely, go screw yourself.
Hollywood is again out to prove it is incapable of providing entertainment. It fancies itself teachers of history, the only problem? History is already written, and when their liberal slant is flavored into the story it always gets exposed. I was watching John Adams on HBO. It was adapted from apretty good historical account of our founding fathers efforts…and believe me, they were far from liberal minded individuals. Well HBO felt the need to spice up the show a bit to make it more “relevant” to todays audience, so they added young hoodlums running through the streets of Boston, teasing the British troops. Well the fact of the matter is, even when I was a kid in Boston in early 1960, we were never allowed to run through the the streets like a bunch of lunatics, parents took a REAL role in rearing their children even in 1960. No our forefathers were religious FREAKS by our standards, there was no skin showed on the ladies, they pancaked the makeup to even cover over what was exposed. children were kept on TIGHT reign. They never had any disputes about the local strip club, because there werent any tolerated. yet remarkably HBO fills them into this historical event as though they happened and we are just like them…we are NOTHING like them, we are weak and pathetic compared to the guts our forfathers showed and we owe it all to the liberalism that we allowed to fester and grow through the 1960s. Today we cant even allow our kids out in our own yards without being with them because liberals have fought hard to make perverts and sexual deviants normal people. It is this generation of liberals who can destroy America, and it does appear to be their true goal, are you even aware they are actively doing it? Did you know two candidates are outright Socialists…something our Declaration of Independence forbids… we are to be Independent of our Government, not Dependent on it. Socialism makes the government self responsible to provide services to the public. This in turn gives the Government more power over the public, not less. This makes the people DEPENDENT on the Government. How daft have we become.
The Iraq war is on the shoulders of the right wingers like Bush/Cheney. It’s a mess. We invaded a country that did nothing to us. And, as a Vietnam vet, I don’t believe anyone who saw combat signed-up for more tours of duty in a war zone. This B.S. can only be made by chicken-hawks who never had a bullet fly by their head or never served. Supporting the troops means either fighting this war full out with all chicken-hawks being drafted or bringing the troops home.
Bush supporters need to get there heads out of the sand and wake up.
Osama Bin Laden attacked the US, not Sadam Hussein.
Osama was supported by the Taliban, who were in Afghanistan -NOT IRAQ
Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/Rice lied to our country and took our country’s resources and flushed them down the Middle East with an invasion of a country that had -NOTHING TO DO WITH 911.
Bush & Co. created a pack of lies to justify the Iraq War, a DISASTER that has disgraced our country throughout the world.
Sorry, America -You were lied to.
I just love it when all the guys here are so pro Iraq war, so what are you guys doing at home surfing the internet? Go join the army and fight for what you pussies so strongly believe in. As a “liberal”, you can bet that I’d join the army and be ready to die for any war I believed in, instead of sitting at home criticizing people for “denigrating” our troops because this douche bag bush started an illegal war over oil under false pretenses which all of you probably believe.
If you believe in this war so much, go fight, otherwise stfu pussies.
“Probably with what many of you are saying is it’s wrong. The film was made by someone who does have family in Iraq. Also for those continue to call Obama B Hussein Obama, it might pleas you to know that the candicate with the most suport form our troops overseas is in fact Barack Obama”
Sorry, this is false.
I’m soooo glad someone upstream pointed out the link from Drudge. The blind anger and logic-free ranting here against “liberals” and (misspelled, of course) “socilism” seemed to come out of absolutely nowhere, only to feed itself into a vicious whirlwind. Now that I know there’s a link – ah. It’s the echo-chamber of the fringe freepers. Not pleasant, but at least it makes sense now.
Hollywood….continuing on its slow, sad, agonizing death march to its own grave
moviemakers used to care about what the average joe wanted to watch, and they made SHITLOADS of money
then hubris set in: leftist political chest thumping, one gazillion “indie” movies about dysfunctional upper middle class whites that only movie critics liked
and then they NOMINATED these movies the general public didn’t care for, so their yearly showcase for movies are receiving continuing declining ratings
Hollywood is creating a generation of people who are apathetic about movies, and that’s bad for business now and in the future
and you know what? Hollywood arrogance makes them NOT CARE!! so they’ll still make lefty political movies that NO ONE wants to see…I wish Hollywood would look at the newspaper industry and its current fast decline, because THAT’s what its future is
arrogance + political propagandizing for the bourgeois liberal left = soon to be irrelevant
hope you enjoyed the ride suckers!!
Btw Universal purchased the rights of the book Lone Survivor, a true story about a navy seal’s experiences in Afghanistan—it is PRO AMERICA, PRO SOLDIER, also not afraid to tell you that there is evil out there that we have to fight, and yet is still able to show you that there is a humanity that will never be destroyed both on the U.S. and afghan side
If Hollywood doesn’t fuck with the book and make the movie that the book is…they will have their first midle east war themed movie hit
but they don’t understand—-arrogance and mediocrity is what rules in Hollywood nowadays
If Hollywood was to make a movie about the America-Hating loons or the media being water-boarded it might do very well,Most of us are sick of their biased slant and their hatred for this country.
“You middle americans and southerners better educate yourselves, and fast….because you are the ones who will suffer the most from this.
Oh, and pick up a book and read about REAL PATRIOTS.”
Hilarious! I graduated magna cum laude in college. Can you say the same “Read A Book”? There is no one more foolish than the one that professes greater intelligence than another, strictly based on their cultural upbringing.
Right off I’m not an American. But hey Hollywood films are sold all over the world so I get a say too. Here’s something to think about. Most of the rest of the English-speaking world don’t believe Iraq was responsible for 9/11 and you know that’s because they weren’t. Invading Iraq in the way you did, was the same as Hitler invading Poland. They had something he wanted. Still a war crime. The Chinese (your real enemies) are laughing their heads off. Btw my nephew (a regular)has done a tour over there with the aussies, and he says your troops don’t identify their targets, they kill every thing that lives. Must be that hearts and minds stuff right?
Wow, its amazing how brainwashed you pro war people are. I suppose you all still believe that we are in Iraq because of “WMD”? I also suppose that you all believe that there’s nothing wrong with the NSA/CIA/FBI all illegally monitoring the public, while the Bush administration is illegally destroying documents and emails that they are required to keep by federal law? It’s just so funny how you all think you’re some kind of defenders of the free world while in actuality you are supporting the oppression of Iraq, and of course any movie depicting anything less than a biased portrayal of the war must be false. and seriously, all of you guys in such strong support of the war should go and fight for it, pussies.
While I wholeheartedly agree with the pro-America crowd here, I have a different comment. Due to the Hollywood strike and our resulting changed TV habits at home, I have not heard of most of these films nor seen a trailer. “21″ being an exception and we look forward to that on DVD.
Hollywood is losing the ability to market itself to those of us who use a DVR to skip commercials or have switched to DVDs, the internet, books, and video games for evening entertainment. Who even sees movie marketing anymore??
One last comment. For Iraq war action, try the truth instead of Hollywood BushHitler lefty lies. Try “Outside the Wire” and “Gunner Palace.” If you have the guts, try “Fitna.” Don’t look to Hollywood to deal with something they refuse to acknowledge (the GWOT), don’t understand (the American military) and loathe (the superiority of Western civilization).
The sad thing here is that these movies are propaganda victories for our enemies when they play overseas. Some people are so stupid they think these things are documentaries about the middle east. Once you understand that is the real audience for these things then the losses hollywood takes on them becomes explainable. In short, the intellectual elites will spend any amount of money in securing defeat for American troops.
I was stop-lossed. It’s not unexpected when you are at war. The episode of Band of Brothers entitled “Points” shows another side of this.
Band of Brothers did well. So did “Blackhawk Down”. They succeeded because they were accurate and Americans were the good guys.
The guy in the article says that we just aren’t ready for a movie about the Iraq War. It shows you what they think of us. It doesn’t even occur to him that a movie where we are the heroes can be made.
There are SO many heroes a positive movie could be built around. There are posthumous Medal of Honor recipients and living Silver Star winners who actually deserve it (unlike John Kerry), there are leaders who lead from the front, there are grunts living among the Iraqis, helping to make them secure and winning the hearts of Iraqi children. There are courageous reporters like Yon and Roggio. There are tragedies like the many deaths from IED’s and the men who go out to disarm and overcome them. There are terrifying firefights. There are storied branches of the service and storied units building on their legacies. There are massive battles such as Falluja II and Ramadi, now Mosul. There is desert, sandstorms, dust storms. There are brave women in close combat situations. There is just SO much good, positive material, and yet, there seems not to be even ONE patriotic writer in Hollyweird willing to buck the leftist mania that has taken hold there. Why is that?
“We Were Soldiers” proved that you can make a good movie about an unpopular war, and do well. “Blackhawk Down” proved it can be done about a mission that has been proven to have been flawed. Yet, despite the number of Medal of Honor and Distinguished Service/Navy Cross recipients, those in Hollywood cannot find a compelling, heroic story to tell?
In a few months, after the soldiers of 3rd Infantry Division returns from their third or fourth deployment in Iraq, take a trip to Fort Stewart and you might just find that there are a few tales that need telling. You may also find that, like every other military post in the country, it is populated by good, decent, well educated volunteers and their families. People who are full of pride, humor and honesty. You know, the kind of folks that have been the basis for popular movie characters for years.
Clearly you’ve been to war. Wait no, you’re just a loser troll who hides out and criticizes the freedom of others to say what they want. Go home and cry in your parents’ basement. Actually you do need to go anywhere, you’re in your parents’ basement now.
I can’t wait until Barack Hussein Osama, I mean Obama is sworn in as the USA’s emperor for life and then he will pardon me in time for the white house inaugural, me and all my Jihady lovin’ home-boys will be walking down pennsylvania ave. over to the new mosque so we can hear rev. wright I mean, ayatollah wright begins his prayer call and have Obama put his hand on the Quran to be sworn in.
We can, with the help of my totalitarian loving socialists brothers and sisters, which I eventually I will put to the sword and make prostitues of their women, give this land a new name, how about Ameri-Arabia? How about Ameri-stan? How about the United States of Allah? Yes, nothing says useful idiot like my mentally challeneged leftist stooge brothers and sisters, that is, until I can figure out a way of eliminating them all.
Excerpt from Osamas’ secret files.
Do you know what John Wayne did in WWII? Make money! He didn’t serve in the military (like other actors such as Ronald Regan) because he it thought might hurt his career. Check it out.
How about releasing “Green Berets”? Now that is a real man’s flick. Except they need to use a little CG to fix that dopey toupe he wore.
the ranting , foaming , entitled to power liberals have been on a blind hatred for the military and Pres Bush since he won in 2000(yes he won as no legit media gave gore a recount)Remember when the worst ever Jimmy Carter surrendered to the Iranians for 444 days and started this nightmare? This is a just cause and our men and women are the epitome of heroism…Remember , no terrorism to speak of (no anthrax and school shootings don’t count)since Sept 11.
Yea America bashing movie does not make money, who’d a thunk it. Give it up MTV no one appreciates your left wing bs.
Based off all of these comments, it’s quite obvious there are alot of Americans that need a swift boot to the face for being so goddamn ignorant.
But you know what? You’re all doing it to yourselves. You sold your minds for safety and now you are reaping the consequences of what you are sown.
I’m one proud and liberal American who will leave this place for greener and saner pastures if Hillary or McCain become president, because the last 8 years has turned this country from great to a great shitpile. Besides, I’ll want to make my money in euros and pounds when the Second Great Depression comes!
Poor Hollywood. Their attempts to propagandize the Iraq war and to brainwash the American people aren’t working out so well for them.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Stoploss had to be based on pure fiction because it doesn’t stand for the true american soldiers who put their lives on the line voluntaringly. I read one comment where someone had just seen stoploss and said that Bush should be ashamed of himself. This is hollywood’s attempt to blur the reality and fiction worlds! Hollywood is obviously continuing to spread their message and taking large hits of losses with each anti-war or anti-american movie. Here is some free advice Hollywood. Try making a pro Iraq or pro American movie and see what your results are!
I think Knoxville resident, Don Devan, and his angry, vituperative (and redundant posts) might want to stay away from Hollywood industry websites if he’s really so offended by thinking people’s opinions.
If you don’t like a film, don’t watch it. More importantly though, don’t ask those who make films to tell the same sorts of lies that the Bush administration continues to tell in order to support this crazy uncalled for war of theirs.
