BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Well, I beat the Academy to their own announcement, but only by a coupla minutes. (So I've changed "wants" to "picks" in the headline!) The two are starring with Meryl Streep in the upcoming holiday movie from Nancy Meyer, It's Complicated, from Universal. And they're friends, something Steve Martin kidded about in the AMPAS press release. (“I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin,” said Martin.) I think it's a natural and even perfect pairing (short of adding a woman or minority), and, for once, I'm actually looking forward to the Oscars, especially under Bill Mechanic's and Adam Shankman's stewardship. This will be Baldwin's first, and Martin's 3rd time hosting the Academy Awards. As I've been reporting, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences hoped first to reteam host Hugh Jackman with producers Larry Mark and Bill Condon, but all were busy with other projects. Then AMPAS picked Mechanic and Shankman to produce the Oscar-cast, and they went to Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr and asked them to host as a duo. It would have been a killer combo, too. But the answer was no. So now here's the AMPAS press release:
Beverly Hills, CA—Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will serve as co-hosts of the 82nd Academy Awards®, Oscar telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman announced today.
We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars,” said Shankman and Mechanic. “Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”
“I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin,” said Martin.
“I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Baldwin.
Martin hosted the 73rd and 75th Academy Awards shows, earning an Emmy nomination for the first stint. He has also served as a presenter on the show several times, most recently at the ceremony in February when he appeared with Tina Fey. He is currently touring with the bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers in support of his latest album “The Crow: New Songs for the Five String Banjo.” In 1977 and 1978 Martin won Grammys for Best Comedy Recording. He earned a third Grammy in 2001 in the Best Country Instrumental Performance category. In 2007 Martin earned a Kennedy Center Honor.
Baldwin was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003 for his supporting role in “The Cooler.” That year also marked his most recent appearance as a presenter on the show. Baldwin currently stars as Jack Donaghy on the comedy “30 Rock,” a role for which he has won two Emmys (in 2008 and 2009). Baldwin earned a Tony nomination in 1992 for his performance in “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2009 will be presented on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Agreed. PERFECT choice!
And Steve Martin has done it before!
I think I would sleep with Steve Martin… not sure if I’d watch the Oscar telecast…
even more reason not to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am very pleased with the choices.
I am already “glazing”.
Are they broadcasting from the Motion Picture Home?
Or maybe they could get Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy instead. It could be a Bowfinger reunion and they could give all the nominated films the “Hard Rain” treatment.
Chubby, dude. It’s Chubby Rain.
a perfect pairing?? are you on crack?? The Academy’s choice of host is a total mess. Did they not learn anything from last year? The ratings were up because Hugh Jackman drew a younger demographic. Why they didn’t ask Neil Patrick Harris is beyond me. Steve Martin is so not relevant, even if he does have a movie out. He plays to an older crowd and the ratings are going to tank this year because of it. Alec Baldwin isn’t as bad a choice because he has a hit show on TV and he can be very funny. Sorry, this is bad news for the Oscars.
Uhh how many people do you know under the age of 35 that watch the full Oscars show? That’s what I thought. The ratings are never gonna be great because no one cares enough (outside of Hollywood) to invest 4 hours of their lives to an awards show.
These are great choices by the Academy. I’ll bet it’s the most entertaining and talked about Oscars show since Billy Crystal’s run as host.
I watched this year’s Emmys pretty much solely because of NPH. <25.
Baldwin is not worth a quarter after (wife) Kim Basinger proved that he beat her. No truck for woman beaters.
Vetvoice
Melissa,
I disagree. America has an aging population and young people are less likely to be impressed by an Oscar anyway.
I think the idea of a pairing where one of them did a good job before is a fair one, although you have a point about Steve Martin not really having done much in the past decade.
What do you have against an older crowd? Are people in their 50’s and 60’s irrelevant? There are quite a lot of us still around.
“In 1977 and 1978 Martin won Grammys for Best Comedy Recording.” – kind of says it all…
That should help the ratings, cause that 30 Rock episode with Martin was huge!!! I think the Oscars are in big, big trouble this year. If the big Oscar flicks are Precious and Up In The Air, who’s gonna watch this show other than Hollywood and hardcore red carpet fashion followers.
The fact is, had the the Academy simply nominated the Dark Knight last year they could have brought some viewers back to the show, but they had to go all Indie and now they’re flailing in the dark.
So, the Oscars should only nominate the movies that make the most money in a given year? Does that mean that Transformers 2 ought to be nominated?
Of course, Slumdog Millionaire made something like $130 million in the US, it’s not like that film was incredibly obscure when it won.
This 1990 Academy Awards ceremony should be terrific.
Well, at least it’s not Ben Stiller…he would have sucked!
Stiller in black face could be a hit!
I predict more Bush jokes…well into the second year of Obama’s presidency. Will Baldwin be flying in from his foreign place of residency (since he swore how many times he’d be leaving the country)?
I eagerly await Martin’s hairpiece and Baldwin’s mean little pig eyes.
That’s not fair. Baldwin is very funny…even if not intentionally. I think we can all agree that Martin and Baldwin should do well together. Martin likes to tell old jokes and Baldwin IS an old joke.
I just hope for Steve’s sake he is not late to a rehearsal. I can just hear the taped phone message now: “Hey, Steve! You %#*@! How (bleeping) dare you make me wait for you! You selfish (bleeping) (bleep)!
It would be much more entertaining if Alec and his daughter hosted together…
I’m appalled. Two MEN, both straight, no minorities! Where is my Hope and Change?
Half right. Martin had his balls removed long ago, but – still – it IS two White people.
The hysterical thing is that when little conservative fuckwits like Mark try to tell a “joke” about minority groups, they usually just post something racist. Yet, they think they’re being witty.
Who cares? This was on the Drudge report so I read it. I will not watch it.I care as much about the academy awards as I so about who the hollywood narsacists like politically. What a bunch of self centered jerks. If you exclude Mama Mia I have not gone to a movie in over 30 years and I can still function in life.
Trust me, everyone excludes Mamma Mia.
there have been plenty of fine films in the last 30 years, regardless of what you think about the people who make them.
you haven’t seen a single film by the coens? nothing by soderbergh? cuaron? all these people, you can’t stand?
perhaps most importantly is why you decide to grandstand on a website tailored specifically to industry buffs. i don’t work in the industry, but i get a kick of looking in. what’s your excuse for berating every single person on this site?
Sandie,
If you don’t care about hollywood then why the fuck are you on nikke’s website?
You are an old tired lonely hypocrite. Go pet your cat while you watch Nancy Grace on CNN.
But you certainly cannot spell!!
Check your dictionary before publishing your rants.
Who even watches the Academy Awards? 95% of Hollywood movies are lefty formulaic boring garbage. The impaulsible scripts aren’t memorable for more than one day. Only the truly brain dead are in the audience anymore.
Alec Baldwin, please, he’s so yesterday and as dumb as a rock.
The man hasn’t made a good or funny film in over 15 years, and whenever he does pop up, it’s so bad I’m embarrassed for him. Pink Panther? Cheaper by the Dozen?
Sgt. Bilko, The Spanish Prisoner, Novocaine, Shopgirl. Not trying to defend him, as I agree that his broad mainstream movies have reduced his standing. In fact, from this point on, it would be best if he focused only on his banjo playing (which is out-and-out masterful), his writing, and movies that only he wrote. More in the vein of “L.A. Story” would be perfect.
wow, those are 4 you list as evidence to the contrary? while not “pink panther”-bad, all 4 of those were pretty lame movies.
Yeah, I thought Rory was adding to the list, and then I was like, “wait, what?”
I will only agree to allow this happen if the Steve Martin of old hosts. Bring out the balloon animals, the white suit and the non sequiturs. The new Steve Martin won’t cut it.
Why be exited to see Baldwin? He’s sleezy and an a**h***. Unless he’s rehabilitated himself. Did he find God like his brother? It disturbs me that Steve Martin is his friend. Now I have to wonder about Steve. Personal stuff aside, it’s sad that nobody will host the Oscars anymore unless they need to sell something.
Hollywood is such a white boys club. Did all the women turn them down.
And the NBA and the NFL are black boy clubs…this white boy watches them both all the time! What’s your point?
Hollywood is becoming an OLD boys club. Look at the “action” heroes these days: Harrison Ford (67 yrs), Bruce Willis (54 yrs), Lawrence Fishburne (48), Denzel Washington (55 yrs).
Probably the youngest Hollywood leading action heros would be Brad Pitt (46 yrs), Hugh Jackman (41 yrs), and Will Smith (41 yrs).
I thought action heroes and hollywood machismo was supposed to be the young, sexy, physically alluring men and not these guys that are old enough to be their target audience’s Father or Grandfather. EW!
So having Steve Martin (64 yrs) and Alec Baldwin (51 yrs) as hosts plays right to their membership though not so much to their desired target audience.
really great choice……
Who cares??? All the Oscars, and these other Narricistic awards
ceremonys do is make most people watch something else or ignore them. Every year the ratings tank.
Ron L, who cares ? Well the artists who actually are nominated and are being rewarded by their peers care. That’s all that matters. Most people will watch something else or ignore the Oscars because most people are bitter and do not want to see rich, famous people patting each other on the back for artistic achievment(and the average person knows nothing about artistic achievment at any level).
What, Tina Fey was busy that night?
I love Steve Martin and would be thrilled to watch the show because of him. However, the Academy made such a major mistake with Baldwin. His political activism as well as male chauvinism against his ex-wife and the divorce along with his conduct towards his own young impressionable daughter means I will NOT be watching the Oscars tv show this year because I couldn’t stomach seeing Baldwin, especially for that amount of time.
Besides, Baldwin will have no political material anymore to whine about Pres. Bush since all the problems in our country now are all Pres. Obama’s. Baldwin still hasn’t moved out of the country as he swore he would do when Pres. Bush was re-elected. sigh. The country wouldn’t have missed him, I think. I also think it would have been good for him to experience the downside of not living in the greatest country in the world.
Of course, none of the aforementioned will stop Baldwin from making some kind of put downs, digs, or denegrations to conservatives, family values, Christians and Catholics, the republican party, Sarah Palin, and former Pres. Georg W. Bush. That is all he knows how to do, instead of discerning why the problems in our country are rapidly mounting to the denouement of losing our soveriegnty to the climate treaty Obama intends to sign in Dec. in Copenhagen, wherein Obama will submit the USA to the one world government authority established in that treaty, as well as committing us to then redistribute our wealth to all other countries who have ’suffered’ because of our consumption of energy and vast carbon footprint. Don’t believe me? research it yourself on the internet, watch the short video lecture Lord Montbacht who discusses this in depth how Obama will sign it and it will cause the US to lose its sovereignty as a nation state. Wanna Bet Baldwin will think that it is a good thing, too, huh?
take a breath, mariab. you’re a friggin wacko and don’t know how to express yourself in a half-way rational manner.
Mariab – every observation you make about Baldwin is right on.
Turns out the Oscars will be a giant promo opportunity for Martin to pimp his newest flop and for Baldwin to pimp Tina Fey (as if she isn’t good enough at that on her own).
Boo!
I was soooooo hoping the AA show would be fun, too. It would’ve been if they had chosen somebody like Eddie Izzard and not a watered down version of Martin and Lewis, aka Martin and Baldwin.
Yeah Downey would have KILLED, remember that AFI thing he did for Warren Beatty (click my name for link)? Steve Martin is classy but too old school/predictable. Baldwin is an interesting choice because he’s damn good on TV.
Steve Martin… is he still alive?
What were they thinking?
With viewership on an extended decline, the Academy needed to try to bring back some of the people who have stopped watching. Alec Baldwin will have the opposite effect. He has made himself an extremely polarizing figure, and rather than bringing people back to the show he’s likely to push more of them away.
Won’t be watching this year…Alex Baldwin…yuck. Steve could do it better by himself!!!!!!
That’s okay, nobody will be watching anyway.
Fargin Bastiges, nobody will be watching anyway ? You realise that the Oscars average like what… 30 million viewers ? That’s not exactly “nobody”.
Steve Martin? Zzzzzz. Isn’t he busy with his banjo concert tour? Alec is great on 30 Rock but will spend the entire telecast reading pre-scripted lines from a teleprompter. Seriously this is a step backwards. Can’t they find a host under 40 to spice up this dull telecast? And the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Sound Editing of a film no one has ever heard of is….zzzzzzz
Steve Martin’s autobiography is a work of honesty and generosity. If you’re a young writer/performer looking for guidance, go read “Born Standing Up.” It will likely change your life and how you feel about your art.
I agree, it is full of endless rejections, flubs, sorrows topped off with a jealous and bitter father. Everybody can relate to being broke, unnaccepted and at a loss as to what to do move forward. I thought he was an arrogant Hollywood misogynist until I read his book; he is a self-made man, a person without connections or a trust fund to ease his way in expensive Los Angeles, he is realistic and down-to-earth throughout the book, and that is why I have respect for him.
This is a good choice, if not exactly the hip choice that the producers were going for. Martin’s previous hosting duties were terrific and Baldwin is great comic actor. I was worried that since Stiller and Downey turned the gig down, they were going to go for Ferrell, Black, Vaughn, etc. One thing Martin and Baldwin are not is annoying.
What? Ugh. No need to watch the telecast. Oscar FAIL.
Do they actually think the people who didn’t tune in for Hugh Jackman will tune in for Alec Baldwin or even Steve Martin. I mean people don’t even care to see their films. Its as the Academy has decided nobody going to watch the award show anyway. This decision is just as comical and ridiculous as the decision to have ten best picture nominees. But then again….this is an egotistical liberal gathering so maybe that is why this decision was made.
Or maybe the Academy has decided that they will not pander to the tween MTV generation demograph. Good for them. The only way to skyrocket the ratings with the tweens would be to have Rob Pattinson or Miley Cyrus or Zac Efron host.
I watch nothing that has Alec Baldwin in it.
I am still waiting for him to carry out his threat and leave the country. Or did I miss it?
Are you kidding me??? Steve Martin is a comic genius…an Icon. If you are too young to have enjoyed his early “Saturday Night Live” stints and his concerts, comedy albums, etc., then you are indeed one to be pitied. Thank goodness the Academy is hiring a host with diverse talents, too (ever heard his banjo playing?). Alex is funny, as along as he doesn’t get on his anti-Republican rant. I don’t tune in to see the Oscars for his political beliefs.
Agree with the majority of the crowd. Yes the pairing is ok, but Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are under contract with NBC as well and if this is just an effort to promote a movie, it would be better if they just host SNL together. What better way to bring peace to your fellow man than to co-host the Christmas 2009 edition of Saturday Night Live.
Here’s an idea to really drive up ratings: Have Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olberrman host! Or Hannity and Chris Matthews! Or Palin and Hillary! Or David Duke and Al Sharpton! Stir the darn thing up for once… Oh, got it. Jon Voight and Sean Penn!!! YESSS!!
I absolutely hate these shows, but your program I would watch!
Two hosts, ten best picture nominees? The Eastern and Central timezones will still be watching at 1AM. (If they still even have it on that point.)
Gee, I hope Baldwin doesn’t threaten his young daughter again.
He is a hateful control freak. I won’t be watching.
Steve Martin and … Alec Baldwin? Am I missing something? Not in a thousand years would I think of pairing those two for anything, and upon hearing that they have, in fact, been paired, my reaction is not, “KEWL!” but: “Huh”? I’m not saying it can’t work, or won’t work, I’m just saying: “Huh?”
Hey Rod,
Thanks for stepping outside of your Fox News Studios to chime in… If you don’t want to watch the Academy Awards, then fine – that’s cool… But to go after the guy because he made a mistake makes you look like a douche… I’m sure your life-record is fucking spotless… Grow some balls and stop wetting your bed! Get over it and enjoy the show, as I think it will be very good.
Well, the folks in Hollywood have finally admitted that the Oscars are a full fledged circus by putting 2 clowns in charge. I won’t be watching in any case.
Baldwin is living in the U.S. again?? He told us all he was going to leave the country if Bush was elected so many years ago. Maybe he’s going to shoot some Repubs from the podium as he announced that idea publicly not long ago. And some of you just think he bullies children and beats his wives.
Not the most stirring choice possible, but there could have been worse. Five bucks says Baldwin does a Hollywood version of his classic speech in Glengarry Glen Ross.
Well gosh, I was going to watch it because I love Steve Martin. But Alex Baldwin who has the intelligence quotient of a flee, does not deserve the time of day. So I will just pass……..
Hey Bill and Adam, (you must be reading this) here’s an idea: Announce you’ve chosen these two, old as the hills, creepy trolls, Martin and Baldwin and then secretly have a really great, inventive, creative and exciting-to-watch, surprise host (or hosts) lined up to actually do the telecast. It’s not to late to fix this obvious first-timers mistake. Remeber, it’s called the ENTERTAINMENT industry.
Two more reasons not to watch the Oscars(as if more were needed).
I think they might actually get more people to watch if they dropped the hosts completely. It would work for me, anyway.
Excellent news. Martin can commiserate about his failed relationships, and Baldwin can beat up Steve’s ex, literally on stage. I’d like to see Baldwin do an Andy Kauffman and take on Rosie and Ellen in an oil wresting contest.
How pathetic do you have to be to have your girlfriend leave you for a woman? Hahahha
Martin used to be so funny, and then he traded the arrow gag for chick flicks.
He was SO close – he *could have been* W.C. Fields.
Could have been.
to bad, would have watched and gone to watch party with martin, wont waste time with smartalec – not interested in listening to his America bashing
to bad for martin, though
Disaster………
UPDATE: Academy Picks Steve Martin & Alec Bald…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
What is old is new again.
What about opening the show with some of the really funny audio clips of Baldwin screaming at the top of his lungs at his daughter…
And what about some clips from Martin’s film “Shopgirl” having a go at Claire Danes…
Sitting here thinking about this decision of Baldwin and Martin as host of the OSCARS the only thing more ridiculous would have being to name Roman Polanski as their award show host. Yep. Baldwin and Polanski. perfect pair. The Academy missed a great opportunity.
I’ve always liked Steve Martin. Alec Baldwin… not so much. Now Tina Fey… that would have been great!!!!!!
I would have rather seen Steve and Dan Aykroyd host in character as the Festrunk Brothers from the original SNL.
Nominating Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to co-host the 2010 Emmys.
I’m old enough to remember when this ceremony actually had class and the whole world watched.
Now it has been reduced to a political statement starring a bunch of self serving spoiled brats with substance abuse problems.
I’d rather watch a rerun of just about anything.
Of course; Alec Baldwin is a complete child-abusing idiot and Martin knows how to walk and talk without a script. the meaningless marketing show, known as the oscars, will do just okay, despite having a part-time American like Baldwin screwing things up. Hey, Alec, beat your wife lately?
Putting aside Baldwin’s politics (which alienate 1/2 the audience) and Martin’s relevance to the movie going audience (he’s that old guy with the banjo, desperately trying to hang on, who was a star in the ’80’s), this is breathtakingly stupid from an insider’s point of view:
If I walked into any Hollywood studio today, looking for financing with the two of these guys attached to star in a picture, I’d get thrown out on my ass. Paramount, Fox, Disney, Universal and Sony would all say they’re not stars, they won’t open a picture, and they have no appeal to the target audience.
So riddle me this: What genius thought it would be smart to put these guys up as our icons for Oscar night, when neither of them could get a movie made today? (Yeah, yeah, I know they’re co-starring in a movie right now. But that’s more about Scott Rudin than it is about either of these two.) What audience are they trying to appeal to with these guys? Yuppies who still mourn for the days of Chevy Chase on SNL, with kids who watch Miley Cirus, while they don’t go to the movies anymore?
Dumb choice. But probably very good if the academy is trying solely for the Netflix “Wild Hogs” crowd.
Why Baldwin?
I would think Mr Martin could handle it all by himself.
If he needs a sidekick perhaps Kathy Griffin.
I hope no one makes Mr Baldwin angry.
Patrick Harris would have been a great choice and or
Vanessa Williams. Both are funny and did a great job
last hosting events…
whoopi g & susan sarandon, now that would be just as funny. not haha funny either.
You’ve got to be kidding. This will be the lowest watched Oscars show in the last 15 years. Baldwin has the class of a butt sniffing dog.
Hugh Jackman is a gentleman…Alec Baldwin is a bum. Good luck with the show.
Wow! What a fourth and terribly original choice. I was kinda hoping for hosts fitting a younger demographic like, . . . . ah, maybe Jack Benny and George Burns. Unfortunately they were not available
Should have been Steve Martin and Robin Williams…..at least they would have played off each other and that would be great (again). Mr Baldwin is pretty good on 30 Rock and the comercial for Hulu is good as well. When he concentrates on acting he is a decent actor, when he steps into politics or relationships, not so good (gross understatement there). As to hosting the Oscars, it really comes down more to what and who is nominated moreso than who hosts the show. Neal Patrick Harris would have been a good choice also.
Alec would be wise to leave his political rantings at home. On second thought he should stay home too.
Alec Baldwin can be hilarious but only when he plays a pompous ass (which I guess means he is funny both on and off screen?).
Steve Martin has been neither relevant nor funny since the early eighties. He will be the kiss of death for the show.
For a highlight Alec Baldwin’s daughter will be brought onstage for him to publicly yell at and belittle for 5 to 10 minutes! It’ll be an awesome show!
Nobody cares! The Hollywood scene is dead and nobody’s buying their crap anyway. Get off your asses America and start living in the real world. Honestly, NOBODY cares about John and Kate or the Kardashians, or any of the “reality” hook up shows that pit pitiful adolescents tryings to act like adults against each other to win a prize. The people that thrive on Paris and Britney have no life. Oprah has outlived her usefulness, Maury’s “who’s your daddy?” show is a pathetic insight to todays culture. Haven’t seen a good movie out of Hollywood since the 70’s, retards write for Saturday Night Dead, violence and sex are the recurring themes used to subjugate the moronic masses of society. Turn off the TV, take a walk in the park to experience “real” reality, don’t let the phonies of Hollywood rape you and leave you a blithering idiot.
If “nobody cares” and you don’t care then why did you come here with your blithering, idiotic rant? All these Drudge morons say the same thing: “I never watch the Oscars.” “Nobody cares about Hollywood.” “I haven’t gone to a movie in 30 years.” Then why are you all so worried about this topic? It’s like they have one brain and they pass it around. God help us every time we have to listen to the ones that aren’t using it at the time. GO AWAY! Back to Drudgeland, you pinheads!
Baldwin is going to use this to force his ultra-Leftist political ideology down everyone’s throat. I for one will not be watching this establishment tool.
One Big UGH! What the heck is the Academy thinking? STeve Martin is one of the worst hosts they ever had. Alec Baldwin is a crude, rude slug. Of course, I haven’t watched the show since the Whoppi Goldberg fiasco so this pairing sure won’t bring me back. But then again, the movies are so bad now why bother with the whole thing. They should go back to having a private dinner in a hotel and we can read about it the next day.
I wonder if their appearance will include a Political Rant? I always thought this show was nothing more than a Suckup Contest for those in the Film Industry…ho hum.
Does anybody actually watch this pretentious nonsense anymore??? GET A LIFE!
They should have gotten Steve Martin and Dan Akroyd. Then they could have been “two wild & crazy guys!”
BORRRRRRRING.
.
I do not, and will not watch Alec Baldwin or anything he is associated with.
I just find it amusing that anyone even cares!
The overall ratings for Oscar are not necessarily predicated on the hosts. . .it’s all the anti-American movies being made. Additionally, Hollywood’s passionate embrace of Marxists/Communists world thugs as somehow romantic misunderstood figure is turning off mainstream Americans — who do not want their dollars promoting the legacy of brutality and genocide.
Let Fidel and Chavez buy all their friends’ movie tickets from now on. . .Wake up Hollywood!
Now this would be a show worth watching for, even if I have to stay uo till 3 in the morning. Love the way Steve Martin speaks.
I am doing a project on upcoming oscars. Is there any site from where I can get more information about it?
Martin is okay but Baldwin is a leftist Un American verbal abuser of his child and reported physical abuser of his wife. Perfect for Hollywood which is as Un American as he is, but not good for the public. My family will not watch.
Alec Baldwin to host the Oscars ? Out of all the available entertainers in Hollywood, why pick this bloated wife beating has-been.? This man verbally abused his very own young daughter. What is wrong with our society today ????
If A**hole Baldwin is on it, I don’t watch it. Why doesn’t he go back to Europe, or beat his wife or scream at his daughter some more.
I’ll watch it if Martin does an impersonation of Tina Fey. Which Baldwin? Better to bring back the Marx brothers. They are more entertaining even though they are all dead.
Dead Marx Bros are funnier than Baldwin
What they should do is have Baldwin co-host the show in-character as Jack Donaghy. THAT would be entertaining (not unlike Colbert acting like a rightwing blowhard on his show)- calling out the Hollywood left by being a caricature of every GOP stereotype- just like “30 Rock”.
The Oscars are for sell-outs.
Should have been Tina Fey and Neil Patrick Harris. Or Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion.
But that would have been a little too daring for them.
Who the hell cares? It’s a big Hollywood circle jerk, anyhow. The Oscar is not relevant. Steve Martin is not relevant. Baldwin is puffy and on TV now, for crying out loud. I’m in Steve Martin’s supposed demographic, and for another year I will not be watching the Oscar Show.
Thank you, God! Martin’s opening monologues are scathing and hilarious but also telling. He never holds back; he puts this town in its place, in a fun, twisted, ironic way.
Alic Baldwin? I suppose. He’ll probably just do some funny bits.
Should be funny, though.
Shame Shame for even thinking of Stiller before Martin.
Good Now I definitely won’t watch. Baldwin is a jerk and no one likes him or watches that hyped up stupid 30 does not rock show.
I always wondered how they counted the numbers ratings on the Academy Awards show. I always thought the ratings statistics were way too high, even when the ratings started to drop in recent decades. Neilsen probably tallies a head count when a channel hoppers accidently lands on that channel while scratching their butt. Of course there are plenty of “train wreck” watchers, who think it is just a matter of time before one of Hollywood’s beloved brethren stumbles onstage stinking of a backstage party and rattles off some embarrassing, hateful or sexually depraved comment.
Great for Martin BUT Baldwin should be in Hell!
This is a slap in the face towards all women. Baldwin’s action show that he is a menace to all children and females!
Congrats Steve!
Great – I’ll watch that. All of you Baldwin haters won’t be able to trash it because you won’t be watching.
Be still my heart..who would have thought that psychotic liberals would be chosen. Worth watching? NOT!
Perfect choice. I cannot wait to NOT watch the Greatest Hollywood “I love ME” award show. It doesn’t matter WHO hosts the show, a loser is still a loser.
Just great! Another Academy Awards heaving with left-wing political rantings by Baldwin. Oh, well, I haven’t watched the Academy in years since Hollywierd became so political. Don’t go to many movies or buy CDs anymore either for the same reason. They should keep their politics to themselves.
And cue The drudge report idiots and their anti Hollywood rantings.
Remind me not to watch!
Liberal actors hosting a show where liberals hand out “awards” to other liberals for promoting a liberal view of life,…… yawn. Sounds just like the Nobel Awards. And Hollywood wonders why its livelihood is dying off,…
Alec ruined it for me. Although it doesn’t matter anyway. Five years ago, “for the first time in my adult life”, I stopped watching this “slobering love fest” and have never looked back!
If it’s on FOX I’ll watch it. Otherwise, WhoTF cares?
…..oscars, I don’t need no stinking oscars!
WELL WITH ALEC BALDWIN ON THE SHOW I WONT WATCH IT.
I AM STILL NOT OVER HIM SCREAMING AT HIS CHILD LIKE HE DID.
The Oscars are usually just a “Gee, aren’t all of us Hollywooders just fantastic?” circle jerk, IMHO. Resurrecting Steve Martin for co-host? He hasn’t been funny in quite a while. And Alec Baldwin, who couldn’t think his way out of a wet paper sack, let alone ACT his way out…. that dude cannot act at all. He’s also a wife beater and child abuser…just the fine kind of citizen the Academy would put out there onstage. I wonder if Baldwin got the gig because another Hollywood great, Roman Polanski, was busy that night? (Hopefully busy, in prison, where he belongs).
Baldwin?? No way. I would rather watch reruns of anything. I will not pay for his brainless performance.
For all those trashing Steve Martin And Alec Baldwin, I have yet to see you offering a single decent alternative. If hosts are funny and entertaining – and those two are – it doesn’t matter the gender, age, or what filmes they made. Bob Hope, Johnny Carson and Billy Chrystal proved that for years.
Martin Yay…Baldwin Nay!!
Steve Martin is a funny. funny man and he has experience doing the “awards” show, so good choice. However, I do not see the significance of having Baldwin on the show. He has done nothing but disgrace himself and the industry for the past 10-12 years. After that very public rant to his own daughter you are going to give him a venue to spew more political and personal hate to the rest of the world? This proves how insignificant this “awards” show and the industry has become. First you have to give yourselves awards for doing something that you are extremely overpaid to do. Now you have relugated this “awards” show to a venue for uber liberals and hate mongers to spread thier hate speech to the rest of the world and show the international community how hateful the Americans really are. Great choice.????
First nasty Palin joke and most of the country will tune out, but Baldwin is used to that, nobody watches NBC.
Alec Balwin?? No way I’m watching this year. He’s too much of a political liability for the AA. Not to mention that the AA’s themselves have turned into a forum for making political statements either direcly or indirectly.
The Hollywood crowd again falls on its own sword.
The AAs have become for Hollywood, by Hollywood, and of Hollywood. Why should anyone else watch?
Spending a evening watching Hollywood idiots spew there political thoughts on TV, while they collect millions, in the capitalist country, that gives them the right to make all the money they want and then listen to them bash it, gosh, Law and Order reruns sound a lot better.
If a banjo appears on stage, I will bite somebody’s face off.
I wouldn’t watch the show before, but really won’t watch with Baldwin sharing the helm.
At least they’re not having Wanda Sykes host. She sucks.
I’ve gone from being a HUGE Hollywood entertainment fan and consumer
to someone who will GO OUT OF MY WAY to ignore and reject their products.
You want to make cool movies? Great! You want to directly effect the way my life and future will be manipulated by the government? Go pound sand, you morons!
That’s one show I’m sure to miss. Is baldwin still in the country? Didn’t he say he was leaving?
I think it’s pathetic that so many of you care about such a worthless event. A majority of the movies made are garbage, and their awards show falls into that category as well. I unplugged the satellite dish 5 months ago and have never looked back… haven’t missed anything but live sports.
I like Steve martin, but the other idiot! I will not watch.
Might work,? Alec Baldwin can blame GWB for the overthrow of the demorat machine NJ! and Thomas Jefferson is alive and well in Virginia,Virginia!
It appears that you have had a change of heart since you wrote about Baldwin winning an Emmy.
Isn’t it amazing that whenever Drudge links to an article here, that the ignorant comments flood in. Don’t you morons have a Breitbart site to post your drivel to?
Thank you, Pete, for telling it like it is! The Drudge Sludge always oozes over to tell us how they never watch the Oscars (if you don’t watch it why do you care whose hosting) and how they hate “those liberals in Hollywood.” You know what, I never watch the Country Music Awards but I feel absolutely no compulsion to go online and insult those people. Why? I guess because I have the psychological maturity to understand that just because something is not to my taste doesn’t make it or the people involved worthy of my hate. These Drudglings are so bitter and seething with impotent rage that they can’t control themselves; it just comes vomiting out of them.
IMO, the best co-host pairing would have been:
Neil Patrick Harris and Tracey Ullman… then it wouldn’t be so much an Oscar show as it would be a show that would blow Leno, Letterman and the others out of the water.
Even having Harris or Ullman going solo would work.
Darn! First glance I thought it said Steve Baldwin. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin? I’ll pass!
I don’t see this ending well.
Should have chosen someone like Jay Leno or Conan O’Brien who understands the baffoon-ery of it all called the Oscars.
Actually, Steve Martin understands the absurdity of it all, and that was on display when he first hosted. His jokes fell flat on the audience (especially Russell Crowe) and he wasn’t asked back for a long time.
By the way, the best Oscar host in the last few years was Jon Stewart. When he let the songwriter from Once come back on stage to finish her speech that had been drowned out, that was pure class.
Ok, half an hour with Steve Martin is doable. Baldwin…not so much. I remember Hollywood. Not the ‘untalented losers pretending to be something new’ Hollywood, I mean the real Hollywood. When movies were made for the movie going public, not for ego or cocktail party invites. Go ahead, have your little show, few will watch and those that do will tire and change or come in late for the end. There is a lot of money to be made in Hollywood today…lots. But first you have to make movies for us, then you have to love your country, you have to write original stuff, and finally, you have to entertain us…look it up.
Ok—Their both a55holes.
(how’s that for a comment, mods?)
So they couldn’t get their first or second (or how many other choices we don’t know about) and picked up Steve Martin (64 yrs) and Alec Baldwin (51 yrs) to bring in the crowds. Hate to say it but the audience they want to bring in (the folk that haven’t retired yet) probably have little clue or little interest in who either of these men are.
Course I have never been interested in this narcisistic circus to begin with but while I admit I youtube’d Hugh Jackman’s appearance last year, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin got a snigger, a blog (here), and that is the end of my interest.
I’m sure everyone at the Restful Oaks Retirement Home will enjoy Martin and Baldwin.
Alec Baldwin just gives me another reason not to watch this pos show. I wasn’t going to watch anyway, but Baldwin is a creep!
I must say you people have no life. Think about you are getting excited about. Come on…….. Who gives a s-h-i-t-
RE: I’m appalled. Two MEN, both straight, no minorities! Where is my Hope and Change?
Hey Mark, shut up already. Who do you want Chris Rock again? Chris Tucker? Ellen? Just to be politically correct?
I think this combination will work. These two know a thing about comic timing and are still very relevant no matter what some of these comments have said.
Box office wise, this is the best decade of Steve Martin’s career. Alec Baldwin is a TV star and makes around 3 to 4 good movies a year almost. If anything, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are more relevant in their careers now then ever before. Can’t wait!
I DISAGREE WITH ALL … I DO NOT THINK THAT BALDWIN AND MARTIN WILL MAKE A GOOD DUO AT ALL. I ADMIRE THEM BOTH, ESPECIALLLY STEVE MARTIN. BALDWIN SEEMS TO PREOCCUPIED WITH HIMSELF IN ALL HE DOES.
I HOPE I AM WRONG.
maybe steve will play his banjo
Alec Baldwin…. no way would I watch anything hosted by that nincompoop, but then I rarely watch the silly, self indulgent, over paid and under performing crowd that makes up the Oscar’s parade.
Alec Baldwin is a jerk! I never see him that I do not think of his mean and abusive phone message to his young daughter.
Alec Baldwin is great I love anything he’s in,don’t agree with his politics at all,but he is a great actor he nails it on 30 rock
dave, i love him too…..
I’m curious as to why you Drudgebots are under this delusion that Academy Award winning films are “anti-American”. Here is a list of the last 10 Best Picture winners. Explain to us how they are “anti-American”
Slumdog Millionaire
No Country for Old Men
The Departed
Crash
Million Dollar Baby
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Chicago
Beautiful Mind
Gladiator
Come on, clowns, let’s hear your explanations
It’s amazing how many people come to a Hollywood website to complain about a Hollywood awards show, and how many people seem compelled to tell us that they don’t watch said awards show any more.
I think it’s a good pairing. They’re both funny. Neil Patrick Harris & Nathan Fillion would’ve been epically awesome, as would Eddie Izzard (and I’m kinda surprised no one’s thought of him before). But Martin & Baldwin will be funny.
Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris should TOTALY do it next year! Or just Nathan Fillion.
Eddie Izzard is my favorite comedian, but his mumbling and accent would have made him unintelligible for a lot of the program, and certainly a lot of the country.
It is clear the majority of Hollywood lemmings and socialist video enablers are bitter that average Americans for whose dollars they lust and rut, are viewed with such disdain and contempt for expressing a preference about their choices in entertainment.
Once Hollywood actually cared what the majority of Americans stood for and believed in, while now they regurgitate their turgid and mind numbed liberal natterings like brain damaged parrots. Wife beaters and child molesters are praised, as are those so bold as to denigrate and insult the audience they obviously disdain.
You don’t want to hear that we find your continuing slide into vapid self congratulatory ineptness and self loathing offensive rather than alluring?
Fine. WE are the demographic you want and need and seek. You want our hard earned dollars to live and survive and continue your employment?
Then find a way to be relevant and provide a product that has an actual appeal to us rthaer than castigate and cure us for having our own minds, opinion, preferences and alternative forms of entertainment rather than reward your slobbering Narcissism and moral sewage circling the drain as modern entertainment.
As long as there are Schwedde wieners.
Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey! It’s never too late to do the right thing. Steve Martin is a living Show Biz cliche…A funny guy who is a total meanie in real life..
Never thought Steve Martin was that funny. But I love me some Alec Baldwin. It could work.
