• No offense to ICM, but isn’t it kind of pathetic to issue a press release which, in essence says, “it’s not that bad, we’re actually keeping 33% of his clients!”

• I’m confused…if Dan’s such a star, why does he only have four clients he’s taking? Etan’s good, but what else is there? Ian I hear is not really his client since he’s a TV guy. So what’s the big woop? Hasn’t he been an agent for like 10 years already? That’s only 4/10th of a client per year. OK so we’ve established he’s not much of a signer. I’m sure Spencer and Dan will take real good care of him.

• CAA used to be about a culture of fear and money. The agents understood the rules. When CAA overpaid Lesak, Heyman, and Aloni, the rules changed, and so did CAA. The 100% market share philosophy was adopted, and the agents began to openly resent ownership. Now it’s broken. WME is hoping to be in the top 2% business. That was CAA’s opportunity, and their answer to today’s challenging times. Now they’re stuck.

• I give it up for Lovett et al. The “market share philosophy” saved jobs unlike everywhere else including many of the studios. All I’ve ever noticed is that CAA always seems to be making the right moves at the right time. And everybody else seems to make the wrong moves at the wrong time and overpay to accomplish such aims. Plus this post reads like someone put together a suggestible “mathematical” theory to sow internal strife within CAA. They beefed up on comedy and some other stuff and did so without eliminating jobs through a decimating and panic-stricken merger. All to the good. It’s very hard to be unhappy with management when you’ve been tossed on the street by two agencies’ desperate moves. Things will even out for CAA personnel in the end. They’re lucky to be there and to have such career continuity.
