Wow. Now if only I didn’t have to sell my organs in order to take my daughter…
I wanna go. Can we go?
Sounds like a bunch of shops.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Bloody Brilliant. Wicked. Perfect for 7 year-olds for whom all things Potter are magical. And perfect for parents who have also enjoyed Rowlings’ imaginative world where a paintings make comments, staircases move and beans can taste like berries, vomit or ear wax! Not bad for a single mum who had a simple idea. We are there.
THIS IS SO AWESOME! I WANNA GO TO ORLANDO FLORIDA UNIVERSAL THEME PARK TO PARTICIPATE AND SEE…
WILL THERE BE ANY SPECIAL RAFFLE OR LOTTERY GAMES OFFERED TO ATTEND FOR FREE W/ FAMILY?
I HOPE SO!
THANKS,CAT
so universal is just re-branding two of the rides already there as harry potter rides. so the lost continent section and Jurassic park section will have even less than they do. very disappointing. the islands of adventure have not added anything new since they have opened and are creating a whole new area with just one new ride
This looks incredible. I think it’s going to be a huge success.
YES!! Finally, it’s opening!! I can’t wait to take my son!
I seriously cannot wait! I am going for Christmas of 2010 and I cannot wait to see the world of Harry Potter brought to life!
OMG OMG OMG I CANT WAIT!
If this is managed the way the rest of Islands of Adventure has been then you can expect them to decide 9 months after opening that it’s not worth the expense to have the Hogwarts Express emit any steam. “Dragon Challenge” and “Flight of the Hippogriff” are both re-named, re-painted coasters that will be 10 years old when Wizarding World opens. “Forbidden Journey” is the only “new” ride in that area that’s actually new and the only major addition since the place opened that wasn’t part of the original Islands plans. One new ride is accompanied a half dozen new shops, which is a ratio about on par with what you’ll find elsewhere in the park.
In their expensive plans to expand Disney World and revamp California Adventure, you can see Disney making a real effort to restore credibility to their theme parks after a decline in the chintzy Eisner era. Universal think the injection of one new “IP” is all they need to lure families back into the worst big park in Orlando.
This looks SO FREAKING COOL.
I just hope “Poseidon’s Fury” survives. I’ve heard they might dismantle it to make way for this massive attraction.
There’s a great Wizarding World construction update http://www.brianorndorf.com/2009/09/wizarding-world-of-harry-potter-construction-update-90909.html” rel=”nofollow”>here.
Daria, from what I understand, the Poseidon show will remain. It’s not close to the Potter build site.
I guess people haven’t learned from Disney’s disastrous decision to make California Adventure a cut rate park with redecorated “off the shelf” rides, too may shops and too many restaurants.
I wonder if Rowling realizes that these corporate morons are going to harm and cheapen her valuable property just like Eisner did with Disney’s brand?
Sigh…
Ms. Rowling is gonna have to get another money-counting machine. She’s already put 26 of those machines into the graveyard; they’re so unreliable — remember the days when a money-counter was good up to a 1/4 billion before breaking down? It’s a shame they don’t make 1000 dollar bills anymore. Quite stressful, really, counting all those hundred dollar bills.
(Nikke, I know your cash-counter is working overtime these days. Good for you!)
But seriously Ms. Rowling, if you ever need assistance watering your money-tree orchard, snap twice and I’m there. All in good fun, friends!
Yeah Uni does have a tendency to be cheap. I saw a number of things sadly go downhill while I was there. That being said I still think this is a good idea and while yes they are re-branding Hippogriff and the Dragon coaster I imagine they will involve many new elements….
I don’t believe Poseidon is going anywhere. The construction wall is set up just after Sinbad so no construction is going on near Pos.
Could they sound less enthusiastic? You gotta sell, baby, sell.
Was hoping for something better. I’ve never been to Universal because it’s all thrill rides. Sounds like HP is a bunch of shops and rollercoasters. If Hogwarts is just a ride. HoHum. If I walk into Hogwarts I want to explore the castle. If I’m going to Orlando, I’m staying in WDW they know magic. Not sure it’s worth even a day trip across Orlando to see it.
although the theory is exciting the reality from their video is very disappointing. It does look like an excuse to open stores. Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley should be separate locales. The Hogwarts Express should be a working replica albeit smaller of the original train which tours the park. Is there a moving staircase ‘ride’ in Hogwarts? Are the classrooms, Dumbledores office, Great Hall, etc. represented?
More rides, less shops!
Whether this lives up to the hype or not all depends on the art direction. It’s why Disneyland is amazing to visit year after year and places like Sea World and Six Flags don’t even feel that great once. If they take the time and money to make it feel authentic and old, I don’t care if it’s mostly shops because that was a big part of the Harry Potter world when he’d go shopping to get ready for school, as long as it’s more like New Orleans Square or Main St. at Disneyland and not like the lame stores at the Magic Mountain entrance in Valencia.
There is a HP store in Santa Monica, http://www.whimsicalley.com/. My daughter was there with her friend before this last HP movie. And her friend had just bought the same HP item in the 99 cents store as was for sale at Whimsic Alley for over $25.
I suspect the lure of this HP world in Orlando will be cool for a while until people figure out it is really a cheap, money-sucking experience. First you pay the entrance fee, then they want you to just continue to buy your way once you get into the “experience.” Just call it a shopping experience why don’t you. Then you’d be more honest with your greedy plan.
Longevity and strong word of mouth isn’t in shops, especially when you can get HP merchandise everywhere now, including online. It’s the Disney-type experience that people are wanting, where you really are submerged, entertained, interact, ride on multiple attractions (more than 3!), and have every part of the experience something to exclaim about. Then, in little corners to enhance or at the entrance/exit, you can purchase a souvenir or food/special treats.
When the corporate folks lose the long-term vision and creativity and swap it out for short-term profits and shareholder returns, then they sacrifice the real cash cow. Karma.
So they’re going to put fake snow on the buildings in a place where it is humid as hell and over 100 degrees in the summer? HA!
They are not getting rid of Poseidon or any other rides to make room. I was just there recently, and the construction does not affect any rides other then the 2 being converted.
I’m so excited, every UCF student gets in to the park free one day in april, so hopefully it will be open then!
Will there be any lodging available any where on the grounds of Hogwarts that would be so cool to stay in the dorms where the students sleep My boys will LOVE it there
OMG IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HARRY POTTER FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I REALLLLLY WANNA GO…I CANT WAIT I’M IN!
I HOPE IT’S AWEEEESSSSSSSOMMMMMEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
I HOPE THEY HAVE HAGRIDS HUT OH AND HOGMEAD OH OH AND
DORMS OH OH AND ALL THE LEARNING ROOMS AND DUMBLEDORES STUDY!!!!!!!
Rides are okay but it’s cooler to complete the experience. ITS SOUNDS AWESOME THOUGh
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Dont exactly walk into a rollercoaster building though, exploring the AWESOME world of Harry Potter and seeing the secrets seems better to me. Are they selling invisibility cloaks??
can anyone tell me excatly when this is opening as we are coming from australia
