According to TVGuide.com, David Letterman's lame joke about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and one of her daughters has prompted the Embassy Suites hotel chain to pull its advertising from the CBS website. The Hilton Hotels Corp subsidiary told the media outlet it did so because: "We received lots of e-mails from concerned guests We assessed that the statement that he made was offensive enough to our guests and prospective guests that we elected to take the ads down." Embassy Suites isn't an advertiser on Letterman's Late Show or it would have pulled its commercials there, too. Dave has apologized. But many think that Letterman's ratings have risen as a result of all the publicity, and that's no joke.

He can parse it, and “non-apologize” for it all he wants (read his latest “apology” — the problem was OUR misinterpretation of the joke, not HIS intent): the simple fact is he was and is allowed to get away with this tasteless joke because the subject of it is a hated conservative. Case closed for the State-run media and all the commentators. Had the joke been about the Obama girls and Michelle, he would have been fired. Immediately. We all know this, and yet conservatives are being told to shut up and live with this double standard in America. Only when we say, “Enough!” and start protesting and boycotting and making phones calls like the Left, will that attitude really change (why do you think the Tea Parties caused such a fear/stink with the State-run?). Because it always comes down to the money.
Well, Embassy Suites won’t be getting my future business. Dave already admitted he made a mistake. He shouldn’t have to grovel to Palin because she wants to milk this for political gain. Other comics have made equally lame jokes, and Palin never made a fuss.

He told a joke about an 18 yr old young woman who has a history of being sexually active and whose history was paraded throughout the country and in magazines during the presidential campaign and currently by her parents. Nevertheless, it should not have been exploited as a joke and was not even that funny. He apologized and explained he intended it for the elder daughter, not the minor, which still does not excuse the joke, but, which he had to clarify since the parents went from that joke of a sexual encounter of an 18 yr old to “rape” and “child molestation”, implying they would not want a minor child near Letterman. This is the outrage. This is what Palin does best: mischaracterize, distort, slander, escalate, exaggerate, triangulate, demean, ridicule, and sensationalize, and she has done it since her debut at the RNC convention (her coming out party), through the campaign, after the campaign, and even now. She loves conflict, creates it, and thrives on it and it is her “signature issue”. She leaves a trail of insult and injury behind, no matter where she goes. We know nothing about her position on energy, healthcare, ecomics, environment, education, poverty, foreign policy, domestic security, and, apparently she doesn’t either. She has not spoken to issues of Government, except to falsely claim even after clarification for her, that the Vice President is in charge of the Senate and can do anything he/she wants. We should have a clear indication of how her mind works, and doesn’t work. Clearly, she possesses a “hystrionic” personality, probably bi-polar, maybe even sociopathic. The dynamics of those disorders characterize every public interaction she has had. I have had managers such as this who caused havoc in the workplace, eliminated many good workers, and then, finally, had to be escorted out of the building by Security and Management because they botched the revenue line of business. Usually, these people know nothing about how to do the real job so they create conflict and appear to be “managing” conflict. This woman who allowed herself to be used to gain womens’ votes, the ultimate “token female”, is now the spokesperson for womens’ rights and womens’s dignity? This woman who enabled the scenario wherein her daughter engaged in sexual activity without contraception and paraded this daughter all over the country, then, engaged in a very public conflict with the estranged fiance and father of her grandchild? She is hardly the ideal role model for propriety, restraint, and appropriateness, nor for the rights of her own daughter much less for young women all over the country. She is emotionally unstable, not fit to govern a country, and tiresome in the headlines she makes. Face it. She cannot seem to get along with anyone; there is conflict wherever she goes, with whomever she interacts. If we needed confirmation that she is a divisive person and a liar, an exaggerator, this episode is all we needed, in my opinion. At best, she was not even able to enjoy a period of time in which she could have been the real victim by responding respectfully and with graciousness and credibility and allow the consequences to fall naturally where they belong, on the jokester. Instead, she has escalated it into such another circus, as the ringmaster, that she has triangulated and, has ended up in a worse light than that of the one who started the whole thing.
Meanwhile O’Reilly, in his own “Christ-like” manner, calls for the death of people. The fuckin’ “God party” hard at work. Bullshit.
It’s unfortunate that this serious issue has turned into a conservative vs. liberal issue.

The joke was heinous as are the endless spray of misogynistic jokes on late night. Men exploiting women for big dollars as usual. Men assuming women will take it like good little girls, as usual. Men predictably hurling feminist insults as usual. As if believing in social equality is a dirty thing.

Wow. Some of you people crack me up. Show me a list of companies that you give business to, and I’ll point out the plethora of unethical practices they take part in. Letterman went above and beyond the call of duty, and the second apology was not necessary. What he did not understand is that the “outrage” over the joke was completely feigned. The amount of hate for Sarah Palin and the way that hate manifests itself in people’s complete rejection of offense which they would be shouting from the rooftops if the Letterman attacks were against a female liberal are a wonder to behold.
But if you think about it, in these peoples minds there is justification for the hate.
Ms Palin is a successful businesswoman who managed to perform her job and advance while helping raise a family. Or the horrific joke John McCain told about her? Of course not. As for Bristol Palin & jokes regarding her, what relevance do any jokes told about her a year ago have to the joke Letterman told last week? Silence? Palin is the biggest hypocrite in the Republican Party, and that’s saying a lot about a party brimming overboard with self-righteous hypocrites. Now that Sarah made a big stink about this joke EVERYONE in the world has heard it by now. If she really cared about her daughter(s) she would have kept quiet. The only thing she has accomplished is to help letterman pick up his ratings and bring more embarrassment to her daughter. She likes to be the victim.

The jokes, from less than a year ago are relevent because it shows she was treated like this from the moment her mother entered the race. They’re relevent because there have been so many.
All you can dredge up is ONE joke by Limbaugh from how many years ago? Also ONE from McCain. Now try googling and see how many jokes have been leveled at Bristol in less than a years time starting when she was still a minor.

There is entirely too much being made of all of this. Letterman made a joke, he thought, about the 18 yr old daughter because she has become as much of a celebrity, in a way, as Paris Hilton, and others, whose life escapades make the front covers of magazines, etc, with their agreement. She has given TV interviews, photo ops, etc., the whole enchilada about her personal life. Whether we like the “jokes” made about these young women or not, when they put themselves out there, it is to be expected. The catch came when the daughter at the ball game was the minor daughter who has been rather a “quiet” member of the family, until the parents put her “out there” with implications of “rape” and molestation….Chelsea Clinton has been the butt of jokes, as an adolescent, by Newt Gringrich, who is not a comedienne (officially) and most recently as an adult when she was said to be “out pimping” for her mother on the campaign trail. Sasha and Malia have not, yet. Their parents, however, have been cartooned and characterized and made the butt of pretty ugly racist jokes by members of the RNC and Republican mayors of little towns in California, and elsewhere. It’s all offensive. I do not think Letterman’s joke rises to the “fire him” level. While I do not like it and didn’t even think it funny, as I thought it more juvenile than anything else, I think it has been made into more than it was. A simple statement by Palins would have been sufficient to prove they were better than the joke or the jokester but, true to form, they chose to escalate it and make a big embarrassing deal out of it, creating more embarrassment for both of their daughters and probably for political gain or because the mother’s personality thrives on this stuff.

Really?) re: James Von Brunn: Just because you get your talking points from Rush Limbaugh’s ass where you obviously live doesn’t make them true or relevant. Von Brunn’s 1st influence re: his racist philosphy was a republican named John O’Beaty, whose information on anti Semitism was given to him by another republican, a Colonel Pedro De Valle after WWII.
There are a myriad of other examples of Von Brunn’s link to your party. I suggest you google his name along w/ the term republican. It’s quite an extensive list.
As for the Democrats recruiting from the Klan you might want to get your information from this century rather than from when the Dixicrats ran the party. I could only find Sen. Robert Byrd and his brief affiliation. Who in the Democratic Party still recruits for the Klan? I think such an incredible accusation deserves some substantiation, don’t you? But since you insist on going there, how many Democrats do you know was staunch Klan supporter & segregationist who raped his family’s 15 year old black maid, fathered a child w/ the maid, then refused to support said child until pressured w/ exposure to do so, and denied the existence of his own offspring until the day he died?
