Everyone knows Jay has to leave in 2009 to make way for Conan -- the result of yet another shake-up orchestrated by Jeff Zucker in such a brutal way that it hurt loyal NBC employee Leno. It's still too early to speculate about what The Tonight Show host will be doing next. Though speculation is rampant that Leno isn't ready to retire and may take his late night act on the road to Fox. But he gave a hint the other day that his future may not be at NBC. Almost every night in his monologue, Leno hammers the network for being in fourth place in the ratings. So, in his monologue Tuesday, Jay pointed out that Fred Thompson exited Law & Order to run for president and already he's in third place among GOP candidates. "He leaves NBC and his ratings automatically go up," Leno quipped. "I hope that works for me."
