The comedienne/actress announced on her talk show that she would replace Paula Abdul. Fox sent out the announcement below. Seriously, do I have to bother to say more? Except to note that Ellen DeGeneres has broken every gay barrier now that Madison Avenue loves her. ICM made her deal.
Emmy Award winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has joined AMERICAN IDOL as a fourth judge. DeGeneres will sit alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi and offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition.
The ninth season of AMERICAN IDOL premieres January 2010 on FOX. DeGeneres will join the judges’ panel after the auditions, which will feature appearances by guest judges Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Shania Twain.
“I’m thrilled to be the new judge on AMERICAN IDOL,” said DeGeneres. ”I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”
“I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the AMERICAN IDOL family,” said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and her understanding of the American public will bring her own unique human touch to our judging panel. I can’t wait for this next season to begin.”
“We’re all delighted to have Ellen join our ninth season of AMERICAN IDOL,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “Beyond her incredible sense of humor and love of music, she brings with her an immense warmth and compassion that is almost palpable. She is one of America’s foremost entertainers, and we cannot wait to have her join our team.”
Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for FOX added, “We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres join the AMERICAN IDOL judges’ table this season. She is truly one of America’s funniest people and a fantastic performer who understands what it’s like to stand up in front of audiences and entertain them every day. We feel that her vast entertainment experience – combined with her quick wit and passion for music – will add a fresh new energy to the show.”

WHAT??????????? Nikki, April Fools Day was over 5 months ago….
WORST IDEA EVER
Out of the many possible AI judge replacements…. this one makes no sense. Ellen DeGeneres is a comedian, as her singing & dancing indicates, she has no talent in thatarea. Sure, we all have an opinion, and we all know what we like as to what is comercially viable and what is not… but to have the responsibility and musical awareness to choose America’s next big star… she is highly un-qualified. How about someone like Smoky Robinson, or just for ratings sake, let’s drag the “wiggy” Phil Spector out from behind the “walls of no sound” to participate in the new AI season. Now that’s “must see TV!”.
Hell a five year deal.
She better get her money on the front end and sit Sharon Stone and Portia next to her for me to watch.
The first season was interesting. Since then I haven’t really watched the show until the final few.
Paula could dance. Ellen tries everyday, but doesn’t quite seem to be into the groove.
Paula could sing. Ellen was little Elmo and couldn’t sing in a Disney movie.
Paula could at least judge talent. Ellen has a British speaking DJ. Enough said.
I give American Idol one more year, maybe 1.5.
The Paula haters will find something on cable.
The Paula lovers will put on a DVD just to pass the time.
Those of us who find the concept stupid still won’t watch.
Without Portia and Sharon sitting next to her every day, her jokes will become stale and piss off Randy and Simon.
“Paula could at least judge talent. Ellen has a British speaking DJ. Enough said”
Are you serious with this comment, or am I missing the sarcasm?
And she knows about singing because….?
Oi vey.
I love this. I don’t really believe it but I just love it anyway. This really spins the show ……
Hooray! A splendid choice. Real chuckles, a wonderfully delightful personality. Who ever came up with that idea should get a BIG, really BIG raise! Can’t wait for her first appearance!
Brilliant decision!
Wow. I didn’t know the show could get worse.
The reason why Madison Avenue loves Ellen Degeneres so much is that she just happens to be gay. She doesn’t let her sexuality define her any more than a straight comic lets her heterosexuality define her. By merely being herself, and not making a big deal out of her homosexuality, though she does not hide by any means, she’s been great for the movement towards equality for gays.
Atually, she does let her sexuality define her. That is why everybody in the world knows that she is gay. She is an embarrassment and this move will kill American Idol. American Idol is choosing to make their show controversal which is a stupid move. Also, Ellen isn’t in the music business so it seems the whole purpose of adding her to American Idol is because she is gay. Why else whould they add her? I think this is a big mistake and I won’t be watching anymore.
I don’t normally comemt but it seems somebody like you needs to be put back in their place First of all Ellen has great tallent thats why she is where she is and being Gay….well thats personal and being gay black white red or even purple who really cares? Ellen good luck in what ever you do and people like gred should have their cable service cut off then you won’t have a problem with her or what ever it is that she does. If you don’t like it then buddy don’t watch. Have A possitive day
So, they’ve given up on having someone with a connection to the music biz?
Interesting strategy… I guess….
Not like it matters since I don’t actually watch Idol anyway outside of tuning in when something else is on commercial during the opening auditions to see Simon disembowel the delusional.
An interesting, if odd, choice as a judge. However, it is the kind of decision that could make people quickly forget Paula Abdul.
Did anyone even care that she left?
I think the opposite will occur. First the YouTube video tributes of “back in the day” when PA ” wuzza keepin’ it real.” Then the inevitable Paula vs Ellen smack down on ** insert favorite over-hyped web two ohhhhhhh site **. Next will come the TMZ “exclusive” of Paula’s nipple slip, followed by Ellen in her man-attire. This will be followed by some no-life looser starting a petition to can Ellen, and bring back Paula. And last, the childish antics of the teen set who just learned to “photoshop” something; Ellen’s head on Paula’s laker girl pic, Paula’s head on Ellen’s man-suit, and of course the inevitable crass lesbo shot Monty Python style. Then the jokes. Me first!
Which is funnier: Paula’s on air interviews while drunk, or Ellen’s comedy act while sober? At least Paula has a reason for bombing she was drunk.
If Ellen did her show drunk, would she be as funny as Paula when drunk? Better yet, would she even start to be funny?
Ok they were more like snide remarks made on talk soup or soap soup wtf ever it is.
People want to know! Will Paula fall off the wagon, because of Ellen? Will Ellen have a trist with the closeted female, will she use the casting couch? Viewers want to know, or at least watch the video of them making asses of themselves.
How long until Paula or Ellen have an alien baby?
Fremantle and The Scab. Perfect Together.
Please tell me this is a joke.
Just when I thought this show couldn’t get anymore annoying…
How cool. I really like this idea.
Go Ellen
I love Ellen, but what an awful choice. Shouldn’t you have something to do with music if you are going to judge it? Ellen was on an episode of “So You Think You Can Dance” this past season and offered nothing but continually annoying jokes and bland commentary with no constructive feedback at all. I expect the same on Idol. Heck, even Paula threw in some criticism now and then. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I’m gonna miss Abdul. Actually, I think having Randy, Kara and Ellen together just decided Idol’s fate on my Tivo.
Clearly Simon wants to kill this show and i guess this she is going to be his latest attempt at a shark.
I like Ellen but she knows nothing about music. The neophytes get to vote for the American Idol. At least the judges can be professional musicians or producers. It’s stunt casting and I don’t like the sound of it. Let’s see how it plays out.
Well, the reason they got Ellen on AI is because they want someone to represent the American consumer, to judge if the competitors’ music is actually worth buying.
Makes perfect sense to me.
I don’t watch the show anymore, but I love the idea of Ellen being a judge. I may tune in ever so often to see her.
Totally fresh notion…..
Why Ellen? I love her as a comic, but the show is about singing. She doesn’t know music. She doesn’t know the music biz. She doesn’t know about developing talent or making hit records. Is she great as a judge? My guess is that she will repace Paula in the snese of always giving a compliment and saying something ridiculous (most of which has nothing to do with singing) and at no point being honest at all. It just makes the show more of a joke, which is a shame because I generally like the show, but this is stupid.
Brilliant choice. I might even watch the show now. She’ll add humor and loves music.
Stephen – Agree 100%. Even the phobes have to admit they like her as a person.
For any phobes out there, watch the PBS documentary
“Anyone and Everyone” I
I’m absolutely surprised at the anti-Ellen-AI statements on here. Although I suppose these are probably the same people who had their hate emails pre-written with an “Insert Name Here” spot.
What exactly about Ellen is so terrible? Assuming you nay-sayers actually watch the show, do you actively think “Boy, if someone said something incredibly funny and clever right now it would just RUIN things. What this show needs for integrity is drug-influenced rambling.”
Don’t get me wrong, I like Paula, and her big-heart was a very endearing part of the show. But I would trade it in two seconds for some genuinely clever commentary that made me laugh.
And the posters who talk about Paula as some second coming of a musical Jesus? Who are you kidding? I’m sure if AI had been on anyone’s radar before season one, you’d have been the first person screaming “80’s hack has-been as a judge?!?”
Honestly, what is it about some people where the need to bitch and spew uncalled for vehemence is that overpowering. Maybe it’s the nature of the internet, but I feel bad for anyone with such an absurd hair-trigger of nastiness.
Good luck with the therapy.
Great post! Totally agree.
You sound like you had your love the **insert replacement here** response ready to roll.
The question is not “what is so bad,” it’s wtf were they thinking. This is followed by; why, wtf are they thinking? and lastly What is so great about her.
Assuming she is going to say anything funny, is like playing Roulette only with worse odds.
Hmm Ellen being funny or snowball in Hell? Boy that is tough, might have to flip a coin.
It’s a music show.
Ellen knows nothing about music.
She’s not qualified to be a judge.
There’s no hate involved in pointing out the bloody obvious. You have to wonder about people who have to attack anyone who has a different opinion, alluding to dark motives for their opinion.
The audience for American Idol is largely girls/women and gay men. Mike Darnell knows exactly what he is doing, as always.
Guarentees I won’t be tuning in. AI…out !
Hey, “Perplexed” (Ellen-AI shill):
If you want to see hair trigger nastiness, look in the mirror. And just because folks disagree with you doesn’t make them “crazy.” That’s a tired meaningless insult that always comes from those with no defensible position. The comments about this being a lousy choice are right on. This show is squeezing out one or two more seasons, cynically stunt casting Ellen whose appetite for self-promotion never seems sated.
I love the idea of Ellen being a judge. She’s a fantastic character and a tremendously funny, entertaining show host – I predict this is going to boost the ratings; Paula will be forgotten in a matter of weeks.
Common, guys….a judge on AI does not need to be a music expert or even work in the music industry. Ellen is a great performer and will be able to spot good talent and decide what works and what doesn’t.
I don’t think this looks too good for Ellen, but it was certainly a good idea for FOX.
To think of all the money she’s getting for this!
The Scab indeed.
I thought this Abdul angle was a work. I guess I was wrong. Why does she need so much money anyway. She was already making millions of dollars. Oh well.
I think its a fantastic idea. If you dont like it, shutup and dont watch it. Simple as that. If its going to upset you to the point where you have to be insulting, I think its time to get a life, move out of your parents basement, wipe the fog off of your dork goggles, and plant your nose in a book, and leave the tv to those of us who enjoy it when its at its best, as it is with Miss Ellen.. Really though, get a life.
If too many shut up and dont watch it then the show will flop duh..
Ellen is a comic who isn’t funny and an entertainer with no discernible talent beyond a certain anodyne appeal. Her career was bottoming out until she made a “big deal” about her sexuality. Give me a break.
What?? I thought adding a 4th judge was a bad idea, but never thought it could get worse!! Guess I’ll have to hear Ellen’s stupid laugh or maybe not even watch…….
Perplexed,
Humor is subjective.
She’s not funny to many of us. She’s annoying.
Is anyone sick of Ellen yet?
Does she have to be on everything? American Express commercials, talk show, award shows–Ryan Seacrest is a freakin’ recluse compared to her.
Hey, there’s one last network that doesn’t have a female anchor for its news….
Enjoyed the show watched alot however did not care for Kari wanted the camera to hurry and get off of her. Also do not care for the replacement of Paula, Paula was a big part of the show. Im not getting it with the Ellen thing she doesnt have that much charisma, she’s not a family role model. Which it is a family show, because its american idol. Creates conflict. Sorry will not watch as much.
Really, instead of choosing any of the millions of professional dancers or singers in the USA, AI decided to go with a talk show host to judge talent? Oh, that really adds credibility to the show! Why didn’t they just kick Ryan Seacrest upstairs? And I am sure that Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, Tyra or Wendy William and any of the ladies of the View would jump in there and pitch hit.
AI should have just gone with the vampire trend to gain ratings. As each judge kicks off the wanna be idol with blood drips from their fangs of the fresh kill:
Randy says, “sorry dawg, I just had to do it!”
Kira smiles, “you tasted good, gotta get back to the studio”
Simon smirks, “next!”
Ellen shrieks,”get away from me, blood might stain my sneakers!”
I am glad to see Ellen get this. However, gay men are not going to watch for Ellen.
So now, the show will continue to Degenerate.
Gosh, I just don’t know.
I like Ellen, but I also liked an ex-pop star’s perspective.
The show has officially jumped the shark
NOOOOOoooooooooooo; noooooooooooooooooo; noooooooooo
Well that’s it for me and Idol. Degenerate is the most irritating of fluffy individuals…..
Perhaps because she has the same name as me I hate her twice as much – Freudian – but really I know more about music than she does. Perhaps Fox is secretly trying to kill the show…
I know that I’ll NEVER watch the show again. Ellen is like nails on a chalkboard. That drive’s me nuts.
Not a good move at all FOX.. shame, shame, shame.
I am so upset over the decision to replace Paula with ellen…I so agree that this was a bad move on the part of the show.
Brilliant move. She’s likeable, funny, has heart like Paula but is different enough from her so that they’re not just duplicating the “Paula” role, and a good contrast to the other judges? And her high profile draws attention to the show. Does it really matter that she may not be “qualified” to judge singing? The others can do that, if it matters. This is about keeping the show going strong, or at least as strong as possible as it gets old.
Ok, can we please get something cleared up here… Just because someone thinks this is a silly idea or does not like Ellen does not make them “anti-gay” or a homophobe as a few posts seem to allude to. That’s no different than saying that anyone who didn’t vote for Obama is a racist. Let’s please keep the discourse here at a higher level than what you’d hear on the Fox News Channel. Thanks
Gotta love clueless idiots like LA Law – CNN, ABC, etc – are the ones who promote the “only racists don’t like Obama” mantra you’re complaining about.
I Like Ellen, but this is a bad choice. I can’t get over how Idol Big Wigs treated Paul Abdul after how long she was with American Idol. Why did they not negotiate with her in good faith? Very strange. I wonder if American Idol will lose some viewers because of not signing Paula.
I think this is great. They already have 3 industry insiders, so they didn’t need that. What they DO need is someone who views the performances as a consumer, since the judges’ favorites aren’t always the ones who do well commercially (I’m looking at you, Jordin Sparks!).
Plus, she fills that “nice judge” spot really nice. The only difference is she can form cohesive sentences (or speak without slurring). But don’t worry; if people are still really missing Paula’s contributions, I’m sure Ellen would compliment people hair or clothes to fill that role.
Remember when Dennis Miller was hired to anchor Monday Night Football?
Ellen doesn’t belong on Idol – plain and simple. Yes, it’s clear what Darnell is doing but at what cost? Who really cares what she thinks about music and these performers? Whatever Paula’s shortcomings are/were, she has the experience in this biz to actually provide value added commentary. I personally can’t wait to see how long it takes for her to piss off Simon with her stupid jokes. Ellen should stick with day time TV where her bland humor and appeal can do little harm. Kara was an annoying choice, but with Ellen, there’s only so much crap you can tolerate. Turn the channel.
Did it ever occur to all the “What does Ellen know about music” whiners that the one thing missing from the show has been exactly that — someone NOT in the music business. Maybe having someone who’s interest in music is not professional but that of someone who downloads their iTunes — just as all the rest of you do — would be the perfect addition to a panel of only recording industry insiders. When the rest of you watch the show, I’m sure you have your favorites and root for a particular contestant — does that mean you know nothing about music and shouldn’t have an opinion. Maybe think of it this way — Ellen will represent those of us who know nothing about the recording business but just like our music. Who better to judge the next American Idol than you and me — the ones who are gonna pay for the 99 cent download. I can’t think of anyone I’d like more to represent me than Ellen Degeneres. Get over your elitist attitude, or better yet, stay true to your convictions and never again feel you have any ability to know what music you like.
@LD52: Your comment does not make logical sense. American Idol is a singing competition as Simon Cowell always points out. Who has a better understanding of the skills and talent needed to succeed professionally as a singer: a producer, a professional singer, a songwriter, or a comedian? As a logician I would vote for the first two, with a slight nod to the third one. A comedian knows as much about a singing competition as a lawyer or trash collector does.
The musical consumer does not know why they like something, they only know when they connect with it. They don’t have the ability to intelligently quantify what makes that connection happen. They may have a superficial understanding that a fan does, but that does not mean they can judge based on skill set, but rather just instinctual preferences. After all, there were people who also bought William Hung’s downloads and you would have to be on crack to say the man has talent.
Your argument is about as intelligent as saying someone who is good at the board game “Operation” should get a shot at evaluating who gets to be a surgeon because the common folk have wisdom.
The show sucks pure and simple. It doesn’t matter whether the judges know how to sing or not. The show will continue to suck regardless– it just may be a bit more interesting in the beginning to check out Ellen on the show. I think she’s really likable, and despite not caring for Idol, I’ll still be curious to see what she brings.
Interesting comments about Ellen NOT being in the music biz. As a 25-year veteran of the biz, it has really, really changed ladies and gents. It’s all about show biz. And, Idol is after all is said and done, what? A talent show!
She’ll mix it up; everyone will stop talking about Paula; and, Paula will realize what a huge mistake her manager David Sonnenberg has made. Sure, he rolled the dice … and, lost.
Wonder how long it’ll be before Ellen gets up and has a dance herself! And, Portia … let’s get ehr into the mix!
I may have to actually go back and watch it again!
Yup. Paula screwed the pooch on this one.
@ David: If you are a 25 year veteran of the music biz and have that approach to the craft of making music, then we know why music abjectly sucks today- due to the involvement of great populists like you.
There is a difference between show biz and being a performer with chops. Britney = Showbiz as opposed to Xstina = Performer
You probably don’t get it and that is the reason why the industry is screwed.
I love her, but she’s got no musical cred. (Not that Paula had that much, but she’d been a professional singer/dancer at least.) Weird choice.
why an inexperienced comedian who will push the gay agenda???
Surprising choice. I wonder how much they are paying Ellen.
I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! I will agree Ellen doenst have any background in music BUT she knows ALOT about preforming and how to get peoples attention. That is a HUGE part of being a singer. She also is a hilarious women and I do believe this will improve the show. I DO NOT like American Idol at all. It was good the first two seasons, but its all the same. I might actually tune in when its starts in January.
GO ELLEN!!!
Amazing idea.
As to Nikki’s in-article comment, Ellen is the exception that (hopefully) disproves every rule. The media gives us the perception that the majority of middle-America is quietly homophobic. Yet here is an entertainer that appeals to America so effectively that she can be a product pitch-person, the host of a really popular daily entertainment show, an advocate for a variety of causes, and one-half of America’s favorite gay marriage.
As a seasoned professional, with decades of handling live audiences, live TV programming, and hosting programs both large and small, she’ll be a fine choice to fill this chair. One hopes Ellen will be able to accept the more limited role of a judge, rather than the front-person. But potential conflicts with Cowell – hopefully she stays in the chair next to him – could be epic. Paula was always under-armed versus Lord Blackshirt, but Ellen can be more than his equal. Her wit is her trade, and that will make for very good TV.
AWSOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!
I love ellen! She is way funny and will add some spice to the show. I’m getting sick and tired of listening to horrible singers and and bland jokes. Paula was driving me nuts with her drug use and alcohol use and she was not a good role model for the kids/young adults who watch the show. Ellen is a great role model.
Great choice in choosing DeGenerous!! She is awesome… I love her so much
Let’s get to the real story: how much is Ellen’s contract worth?
She was BRILLIANT as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance so I’m not that surprised.
You could have skipped every Paula “judgment” and still had a show, so it’ll be nice to actually be excited to hear what this judge will say.
love that daviddavid thinks he is a wizard. ellen is not a good fit for this show. good luck.
nobody knows if this will be good or bad. im pretty excited for this season now, just to see how ellen is. im not saying im rooting for her, i’d rather have paula. but ellen’s cool too. seriously, they should replace kara, not paula. just sayin. its not that i dont like her, but if she says chops at all this season, i might scream. randys dawg doesnt bother me, simons negativity doesnt bother me, paulas crazy didnt bother me. but just the way kara says chops all the time makes me want to hurt puppies.
And how much will Ellen be paid for this 5 year deal? Compared to how much Paula wanted?
It could be they just wanted to get rid of Paula, because Ellen doesn’t sound cheap to me.
@LD52
Actually you sound whiny and elitist. Those words are always used by people who need to ridicule because they can’t make a substantive point. The show is not elitist because the people make the vote. Duh. You need judges with music cred to balance it out. The show is elitist by thinking Ellen’s opinion is valuable just because she’s a celebrity. There’s no purpose for having her other than her supposed celebrity. The show doesn’t need another random opinion. You’ve got the American public registering their random opinions. And how precious that you think Ellen represents the average person.
Paula Abdul did not make a mistake. This show is a sinking ship and casting Ellen an act of desperation. When the honeymoon fades, you’ll be left with one lame-o awkward show.
Paula Abdul just needs to make her next choices quality good ones. A degree of it will be determined by luck but hopefully she’ll be lucky to show up all these turds. And to the guy who said why does she need millions – dude, why does that vapid Seacrest need even more millions, or Simon need such an ungodly sum. The men are justified in greed, but the woman should meekly take what’s offered and be grateful? Puh-leeze.
Go Ellen, Go Ellen, Go Ellen! Great news and a wonderful addition to the panel.
I have total faith and confidence in Ellen that she will bring a new fresh air approach to the show. Excellence in performing, Ellen will add humor and fun to the show.
Frankly speaking, the shows ratings have declined and the interest slipping a little here and there in the past few years.
And…… not a whole lot of Award love for American Idol either. Nominations, BUT not alot of awards given to this show.
So Ellen, I am with you and you will do just fine.
I can see that homophobia is present here on this thread.
Ellen DeGeneres is an exceptionally experienced comedian and actress.
She will do fine in separating herself from her own daytime talk show and that as a part of a team on American Idol. She will be contributing and that is that. On her own show, she can do her thing in her way. On American Idol, she will have no problem with sharing the table with the rest of the panel. She is adding to the show.
People, really now, wake up! This is 2009!

And how precious that you think Ellen represents the average person.
BRAVO!
Although Paula has her issues, I felt that she was badly treated by the producers. Why is it that the guys got what they wanted but Paula didn’t?
It disturbes me that Ellen was willing to take her job. What happened to sisterhood? Would Ellen have taken the job if Paula was a lesbian?
The producers knew they were open to charges of sexism so they replaced her with another minority. This happens in the corporate world all the time. If a black or female employee gets fired, they replace them with another black or female or handicapped employee so that the fired one can’t claim discrimination. You can tell Ellen was nervous about how this would look. She says, “I just FELL into it”. No Ellen, it’s called, “getting mine, fuck you”.
Paula Abdul was a huge recording star who sold millions of albums
and did sold out tours. Who do they replace her with?
A comedian.
Why?
Because the show has officially become a joke.
Nuff said.
Ditto to “Peggy” !!!!!!!! (below)
What’s worse is now Ellen’s going around whining that she doesn’t want to be hated for screwing Paula over. Those producers really did a humiliating number on Paula. It adds an extra layer of irony that Ellen is gay because she knows firsthand about discrimination in the work place.
What a wank. She seems like a “I’m a backstabber, but please still like me” person. Seems she did a similar thing with the Writers Strike, and with that dog fiasco when she unfairly used her show/public airwaves for a personal dispute against the other woman.

THE SHOW IS DONE I TELL YOU…WHAT A TERRIBLE PICK. PAULA MADE THE SHOW…ELLEN WILL DESTROY IT…ENOUGH SAID…I MUST GO TAKE DOWN MY AMERICAN IDOL POSTERS NOW.
What’s insulting is that they’re probably paying Ellen the same amount of money (10 mil ?)Paula was negotiating for.
Let’s face it people, it is all about publicity. Ellen is just capitalizing on the fact that people are into her now but let’s be real, what is Ellen going to bring to the show…nothing but jokes. I hope that Ellen keeps being out there until people tire of her.
Explain how she will continue to be truly dedicated to her show especially when traveling to various cities. Stick with your show. Let’s see how much she’ll use her show as a forum to talk about Idol and “all the amazing people” that she’s meet.
This move only states that it is time to say good-bye to Idol.
The focus is also about entertainment on the judgement panel now.
But the risk is double edge. Do they let Ellen “loose” joking and dancing around the set, or do they “water down” her style? Maybe Ellen will throw everyone, and show us more of her serious and emotional sides. What ever the angle, her debut will have major ratings to find out! But I keep thinking about those old Hollywood Square shows my mom watched. They had these comics on the panel that sat there making stupid remarks, that were supposed to be funny. It got boring fast! Anyway, who wants to audition before a clown? A clown that can’t even sing! Who will they get next Carrot Top? The contestants have enough to go through! It’s just cruel. Insult over injury. (I’m sorry Ellen…wrong venue babe!)
To all the complainers saying that she’s not qualified to be a judge because she’s not in the music industry, remember this:
It was those music industry professionals who put Sanjaya Malakar into the Top 24.
I’m curious to know how much Ellen’s contract is worth? Did she get more then what was being offered to Paula?
Well i’m not watching Idol anymore. Bring back Paula, lose Seacrest and Kara.
I think this is terrible news. I dont like her shows at all. I find her supercillious with that put on irritating smile. I wont watch. Why not put on a good looking ,knowledgable, stylish lady, as in Britain has Talent ?
I dont like Ellen, or her show. period. She can’t dance.I find her life style sickening. I don’t care if I am not politically correct. Now we are at the point in society where right is wrong, and wrong is right!
She has no business being on American Idol. She is not qualified. Hell, shes not even qualified as a woman!
But I may tune in to Idol just out of curiosity to see if she bombs. But then, how could that happen since we all love gays now?
And if we don’t we are a bigot.
Give me Paula any day of the week, she MADE THE SHOW!
What are some of u thinking????
With ellen on the show, AI will suck. They should bring paula back. Like one of u said, paula could dance. paula could sing. paula could act, and she still can. If FOX doesnt put her back on AI, the show will lose a lot of viewers, including me. the show is going down the toilet from here. Without Paula the show is going byebye!
Wow so much negative comments… but at the end, ellen will be a judge weather u like it or not, so watch it, don’t watch it… its that’s simple.. I love ellen and I love idol…. if u ask me… great combination =)
I am sorry by Ellen wasn’t a good choice!! Still can’t see how people say she doesn’t need a music background to judge people on a singing show! Paula was one of the best things on American Idol…..no Paula, no American Idol
I think she will be marvelous. I will make it a point to watch, while we do not like Kara, at least Ellen will make up for her.Sure don’t understand the negative comments. Kara, comes up with the most ridiculous things to say, I can’t wait for Ellen to join them
Go get em Ellen, you’re the best thing that has ever happened to this show!! I’m sure your quick wit will make America smile!! I don’t care who you sleep with just like I don’t care who the other judges sleep with. You don’t have to be in the music business to know what sounds good, if you did they would only sell music to people in the business because the rest of us wouldn’t know what was good and what wasn’t good.
Ellen is totally no qualified at all! Putting her on as a replacement is why Simon is leaving because she brings the show down and discredits the other judges knowledge of music and how to help the contestants. They don’t need comic relief-the contestants do that themselves. That was the whole point of the show. It won’t last more than 1-2 seasons.
