I got a good laugh when I read the WGA statement just now that "The Writers Guild of America, West will be announcing the 2008 Writers Guild Awards winners on February 9. There will be no Writers Guild of America, West show until the strike is over." Look, I've been to the WGA Awards and it's a BIG stretch to call that a show.

Wow, even the Writers Guild Awards can’t get a waiver. What hard asses.
Really? The WGA awards looked like a really fancy shindig in the pilot episode of Studio 60. So there’s another myth ruined for me. Curse you, real world!
Is there no show because of all the rumors flying around that IATSE and the other BTL workers that are being screwed by the WGA were planning on picketing this event?
I think you are being a bit mean. I’ve been to WGA Awards shows and PGA shows and Emmys and to me they are all the same… boring, but fun to dress up. In fact, the worst are the PGA ones because the producers can’t manage to ever start the event on time, and they order the strangest items from the menu for the dinner.
The Producers Guild gives out awards and for some reason we call it an awards show – it is a major misnomer.
It’s a dinner that allows members to pat each other on the back. Similar to the WGA/DGA and yes, the SAG awards. (apologizes to any guild/union/splinter group that has an award that I omitted – it was not intentional)
I think the WGAW did take the rumors of a massive picket on their awards night. There’s been a big buzz of it in the L.A. Times
Is there no show because of all the rumors flying around that IATSE and the other BTL workers that are being screwed by the WGA were planning on picketing this event?Or – maybe the WGA are not a passel of insensitive brutes and were able to figure out all by themselves that a WGA awards show would be inappropriate.
My uninformed speculation’s just as good as yours, so it’s a tie.
Unemployed BTL Worker With No WGA Problem
But Sure Getting Screwed by the AMPTP
If the producer’s picket will the agencies bring them coffee and doughnuts?
The Guild did the right thing here. To proceed with our own awards presentation while others are cancelled in the wake of our strike would be unseemly at best.
WGA awards ’show’? hardly – and you can bet picketeers would be exiting from a lineup of limos.
