The Summit Entertainment vampire romance doesn’t open for another three weeks, but fans are already scooping up advance tickets for the film. In a recent survey, Twilight was voted by Fandango.com moviegoers as the most anticipated film of the season. According to a current survey of more than 5,000 moviegoers interested in buying Twilight tickets say they:
92% will see Twilight on opening weekend
85% will see the film more than once
56% will go to the movie with a group
97% have read Stephenie Meyer's novel
86% want to visit the film's locations
95% are female
42% are age 25 or older
58% are younger than age 25

Wha? 97% have read the novel? Who did this survey? Stephenie Meyer?
I’ve NEVER even heard of this novel until a few months ago. I find it hard to believe that 97% read the book.
I think this survey illustrates why Internet surveys are pointless.
We get the point, UGLY PUNK GIRL!, you’re out of touch with the young people today. And I don’t see what’s so outrageous about how 97% of the people excited to see the movie have already read the books.
I just finished reading the first in the series … and the last, for me. Blah, what bloated, turgid prose. It was a gothic romance — for teenaged girls. It’s all about wish fulfillment and wanting yet being afraid of sex, and it offers a painfully Victorian view into the writer’s head.
Plus: Sparkly vampires??? Oy.
They forgot this one:
98% have little to no taste.
Interesting, but not surprising, survey results. I started reading the series because my daughter was relentless in her efforts to persuade me to read Twilight. I was hooked and read the first 3 books in the series in one week while waiting for Breaking Dawn’s release. We already bought our tickets to the midnight showing of Twilight and will probably see it more than once on the opening weekend. Vampires are definitely hot this year and Twilight will continue to become more popular as movie goers who have never read the series see the movie!
Please tell me that you don’t sell Twilight Gifts and Merchandise.
This movie looks horrible. The director is horrible…. 13 was a rated R Lifetime “Murphy’s Law” movie. She took Fincher’s amazing vision of Dogtown and made it into the most unwatchable piece of bullshit ever. Then she gets the Nativity movie
She’s a former Art Director. I’m sure that Twilight will do well at the box office, but I don’t see it moving on well past the first film.
I guess it’s a girl thing, because I just can’t for the life of me understand what’s so appealing about Twilight. Maybe it’s because I’ve only seen those severely underwhelming trailers. But I guess you shouldn’t judge a movie by its trailer, right? Anyway, I have no particular interest in reading those books. It’s about a girl who goes gaga over Mr. Perfect Vampire, right? Whoop-dee-fucking-do! Not my cup of tea, thank you very much. So, this is Edward fella is like perfect, right? Does he any flaws at all, except for the fact that he’s a vampire? Frankly, judging from the trailers, he comes off as a creepy stalker. But someone has to protect from those other nasty vampires, right?
I do know one thing, though. This is no Harry Potter. Not even fucking close.
Some of the box office predictions are over 100 million for it’s first weekend. Internet predictions are speaking in the same tones. I believe that all of the critics will be in slight shock if this occurs. Most theaters have 3 day blocks of tickets, 20th(midnight shows), 21st, and 22nd, (selling out all over the country). In Utah they are giving away 1 opening night ticket with a $1200.00 purchase. Very interesting…curious to see what happens.
These numbers don’t surprise me in the slightest. Except possibly for the number of people willing to see it more than once.
Just watching the commercial once is plenty for me. It makes me cringe every time I see it. Twilight is simply the most modern version of the ol’ romantic staple – the bodice ripper.
Which means it’s predictable and gut-churningly overly dramatic. It’s great fodder for a certain type of female reader (namely young teens and women who aren’t satisfied romantically) but it’ll be a confusing embarrassment to everyone else. Which is fine, I think right now everyone needs more pointed escapism than they need even the tiniest taste of realism.
Hence the hoards of fanatic Twilighters who will vehemently be wishing me death before getting to this point reading my comment.
“True Blood” rocks and will steal the thunder of this crappy film and the crappier books.
Anne Rice brought vampires into the modern age. Charlaine Harris has done justice to Rice and Stoker’s genius. The ‘Twilight” books are nothing but a marketers push with a mediocre writer. What dreck!
I can’t wait for the movie to come out…I’m a 38 yr. old mother of 3 girls and I have already pre-ordered my tickets. The Twilight books are awesome and I am certain that the movie won’t disappoint me!
Stephnie Meyers books are clearly amazing, and to Satan writer, who gives a crap about your dumb opinion. This movie will rock, and EDWARD CULLEN ROCKS!
@TeamEdward: Who gives a crap about YOUR opinion? You’re singing the praises of a movie that looks like it could very well compete with The Covenant for Worst Movie Ever Inflicted on the Viewing Public.
@Satan’s PA: From everything I’ve learned about this series, yeah, he’s perfect. Completely, utterly flawless. Thrilling, eh? Oh, and instead of bursting into flame in sunlight, like any self-respecting vampire, he sparkles. Sparkles. If we could somehow harness Bram Stoker as he is rolling in his grave right now, we could power the US for years.
Edward does have flaws. The thing is in Twilight you get Bella’s POV. Of course he is going to be flawless in her eyes. He is her first love, anyone remember their first love?? Now if you read the leaked chapters of Midnight Sun that Stephenie Meyer put up you see a totally different Edward. He is lonely sees himself as a monster and utterly hates who/what he is.
Personally I love Twilight. It took me back to when I felt that way for the first time. Thats why it captures the female audience so well. Its a tale of falling in love for the first time with a twist.
I think it will do rather well in the box office. It has a very very passionate fanbase for one. Secondly every girl that goes to see it if they are dating will have their boyfriend or husband in tow. And if guys are smart it will be the movie they take girls out see for brownie points. Me Im going to see it at midnight. Then Saturday Im going to see it with my sisters and my husband and then once again with another friend more than likely on Sunday. If the movie is a hit the repeat business in itself will show huge numbers.
I don’t understand everyone who is tearing Twilight down. If you don’t like it, why even bother commenting. Something about it got to you, apparently. The box office sales will tell in time…and I’m betting on Twilight. The books are a huge success with very loyal fans and I think the movie will be ecstatically received by all of those fans. And of all of the women and girls whom I know who have read Twilight, not one single person has complained about the books OR the movie trailers.
Unfortunately, this is going to do well for its opening weekend. I would say $45M but it will have horrible legs due to frontloadedness (and probably bad word-of-mouth, as well), which I predict would result in a $110-120M total.
I am a 60 year old grandmother, and I can’t wait for the movie. I read all 4 books, then sent them to my mother who is 72. She read all 4. It’s now on her Book Club’s list for their next book.
It’s a romance, and I loved it…..End of story.
I’m 27, I loved the books, and I’ve already bought tickets to see the movie. To me reading has always been about escapism from the mundane every day. I find it a waste of time to over-analyze the structure of every book or movie that comes out. I also don’t understand why people feel the need to rip apart books/movies that they dislike. Move on to something you enjoy, and perhaps your life will get better and be a happier place for you and those you love. To each their own.
to Mbagirl13-Your mother was 12 when you where born? Just curious.
Hi I am vincent an actor ans script writer.
I have seen the film three times. I must say the truth the film needed work on some of the shooting scene and also some of the actor’s etc. A film that cost $37 Million to Produce is too much. They could have done this production for under one million Dollars, No problem. I have seen feature films done for less then $100,000 Dollars, and did very well, so you don’t need to spend that much for any feature film people. Anyhow Stay Turn for the New Film Called MY HONOR starring me who written it and Produce it. Keep your eyes and Ears open. It will be shown in Australia first then other Countries later next Year.
