David Cronenberg has just moved from ICM to Endeavor's Robert Newman. The director of Eastern Promises, A History Of Violence, Crash, M Butterfly, Naked Lunch, and The Fly (which has just been turned into an opera helmed by him as well) will remain with his manager Renee Tab of Artists Talent Management. Interestingly, Newman and Tab are both former ICM motion picture agents. (Tab was force majeured during the writers strike, then set up a management and production company with another former ICM motion picture agent Barbara Mandel with clients like Cronenberg, Jim Brooks, Walter Hill, Wayner Kramer, Bruce Wagner.) And Paradigm's Jim Osborne just signed George Hickenlooper from ICM. The director, who did that "Speechless" series during the writers strike, helmed Factory Girl.
ICM Loses 2 Film Directors: Cronenberg To Endeavor, Hickenlooper To Paradigm

Somebody needs to thaw David Cronenberg out, he looks like Jack Frost in that pic you posted. He’s a great director and a truly original talent, Endeavor/Newman should be happy to have him.
Is that Cronenberg on the left? Damn Nikke, that picture is scary as hell! Is he morphing into something???
I like Cronenberg. He makes Canada scary.
This means that ICM will lose, what, 38 cents in commission per year? Seriously, who cares if these guys go to another agency? Cronenberg has never really been a commercially successful director, and Hickenlooper has never been relevant critically or commercially.
Hi Can’t Take it Anymore,
And at what desk do you reside at ICM? Are your feet getting wet yet as your ship continues to take on water? Cronenberg is one of the great American filmmakers but then maybe you don’t go to the movies because you’re too busy counting change. Hickenlooper has done some critically decent work. But then if all you care about is “commercial viability” then you reveal the acrid stink of agent that you are… the poison of this business.
Geoff M. Bolls: Hate to break to it you, buddy, but Cronenberg is Canadian, not American. If you’re going to praise him, you might want to actually get your facts straight.
Oh please. A person doesn’t have to be an ICM mole to realize that losing these two directors doesn’t really amount to very much for the company’s bottom line. Cronenberg obviously has some prestige, but I can’t imagine neither he nor Hickenlooper are moneymakers for ICM.
David isn’t a “great American filmmaker” – he’s Canadian!
I’m Canadian, and last time I checked Canada was in the American continent. It’s called the United States OF America — so technically, David Cronenberg is an American director, and more specifically, a North American director (which is obvious by his frosty appearance).
And since when is David Cronenberg not a jewel in any agency’s crown?! Last time I checked he was making mainstream commercial films that get nominated for Academy Awards.
Excuse me, but Cronenberg is considered an “American Filmmaker” because most of his work comes out of the United States just as most of Fritz Lang and Alfred Hitchock’s work came out of the United States. We don’t refer to Lang, Wilder and Hitchock as great German and English directors respectively, we primarily refer to their ouvre as being American. That is what I meant, you change counters.
let’s see here: Hickenlooper’s most commercially-successful film was “Factory Girl,” which grossed all of $3.5 million worldwide. Three-point-five. Worldwide. Another fantastic Jim Osborne sign. Clients like that are really going to move Paradigm into the upper echelon of the agencies…
I don’t think box office necessarily is a bench mark for the quality of a director. Both Cronenberg and HIckenlooper are both daring and prestigious filmmakers whose work is very respectable. I am sure any agency would be happy to have them. Not maybe because the are ready to helm Iron Man 4 and Spider Man 7, but rather because they are talent magnets to good material. Actors want to work with them. A smart agent will recognize this. It’s not always about box office but about longevity.
What you arguing moles are bickering about as if you are in the “know” only proves that at best, you are trying move up from envelope stamping in the mail room to some post by the water cooler!
Both Cronenberg and Hicklenlooper pretty much have their pick with top talent as anyone with even a modicum of talent will work for those two in about the time it takes Oprah Winfrey to down a potato pancake!
Also, as names on the agency roster they generate major interest in current and future top directors whom actually consider an agencies list before signing!! Hello??????
Perhaps you folks should concentrate on careers better suited to your instincts like parking cars at Koi or busing tables at The Palms. Seriously though, I hope you didn’t use you real names to post because if you did that’s likely where you will all end up working.
Just so you know- ICM as well as the other major agencies do not need money and have not for decades!
HAHA…I always love reading the posts from those poor souls still trapped at ICM and trying to cheer lead that pathetic place.
Then again…it’s not as entertaining as reading the almost monthly posts on ICM’s implosion. It’s been like watching a jumbo jet, in slow motion, plow into the side of the mountain. Right now…they’ve only got a few dozen miles to the mountain, it seems.
ICM = dead horse
