SUNDAY AM: Here are the official box office numbers -- Sex And The City finished its opening weekend No. 1 with North American domestic gross of $55.7 million in 3,285 theaters. The R-rated female romantic comedy posted a great $16,968 per screen average even though many multiplexes had it playing on 7+ screens.
But after a female phenomenal Friday opening of $26.9M, the pic plunged 34% to make only $17.7 million on Saturday. And Sunday estimates expect another 37% downturn for $11.1 million. So on both Saturday and Sunday, the romantic comedy will be beaten by Paramount's Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull which playing in 4,264 venues earned $12.2M on Friday, $19.8M Saturday and an estimated $13.9M Sun for a weekend total of $46M, which was -54% from its Memorial Weekend debut. But because of steady business, it's made a cumulative $216.8M. That's exactly what Hollywood pros had been warning about: that Sex And The City would be a one-day, and one-weekend, wonder with no legs. But it still opened as the biggest R-rated comedy motion picture (beating American Pie 2's $45.1M) and the 5th biggest R-rated film ever released (behind The Matrix, The Passion Of The Christ, 300, and Hannibal). The only female-driven movie to come close to SATC in box office was the Hannah Montana movie, but there's no comparable R-rated chick flick.
So I've just heard that Warner Bros is already planning the Sex And The City sequel! "It's the only female movie that's created a frenzy," a top Warner Bros exec told me this morning. "To me, this is a cultural phenomenon. Hats off to Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker and their team because they dug in their hooks and knew how to make it work." According to the exit polling I've obtained, an incredible 85% of the audience for the movie's opening Friday were women, and of those 80% were over the age of 25. Warner Bros claims to be seeing repeat business already. On Saturday, the audience was 75% females, who came back with boyfriends and husbands in tow. That's why the studio feels the pic is "extremely well positioned" to keep making money. Only the numbers will tell.
Thanks to counter-programming against Sex, the 3rd-place shocker this weekend was Rogue Pictures/ Universal's horror pic The Strangers which opened with $20.7 million from 2,466 theatres for a big per theatre average of $8,397. That's far above industry expectations and the biggest opening gross ever for a Rogue Pictures film, and its negative cost is only $9M. Amazingly, this flick also posted Universal Pictures highest opener of 2008 (more than Forgetting Sarah Marshall's $17.7M). According to exit stats, the audience was about evenly divided male and female (49% male vs. 51% female); under 25 yrs of age = 62%; 25 yrs of age and older = 38%; ethnically diverse, with slightly less than half Caucasian (47%), followed by Hispanic, African American, Asian, and “other.”
Here's the Top 10 chart as of Sunday AM:
1. Sex And The City (HBO Films/New Line/WB) -- 3-day Wkd: $55.7M, Cume: $55.7M
2. Indiana Jones 4 (Paramount) -- 3-Day Wkd: $46M, Cume: $216.8M
3. The Strangers (Universal) -- 3-day Wkd $20.7M, Cume: $20.7M
4. Iron Man (Paramount) -- 3-Day Wkd: $140M, Cume: $276.6M
5. Chronicles of Narnia 2 (Disney) -- 3-Day Wkd: $13M, Cume: $115.6M
6. What Happens In Vegas (Fox) -- 3-Day Wkd: $6.8M, Cume: $66M
7. Baby Mama (Universal) -- 3-Day Wkd: $2.2M, Cume: $56.1M
8. Speed Racer (Warner Bros) -- 3-Day Wkd: $2.1M, Cume: $40.5M
9. Made Of Honor (Sony) -- 3-Day Wkd: $2M, Cume: $42.9M
10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Universal) -- 3-Day Wkd: $1M, Cume: $60.4M
SATURDAY 10:30 PM: Sources tell me that Sex And The City is pacing to be down 30% today from Friday.
This is exactly what Hollywood pros were warning during yesterday's frenzied female-driven opening that produced phenomenonal box office numbers. The result is that the HBO Films/ New Line/ Warner Bros film about fortysomething women may reign at No. 1 only one day. Because Saturday's North American gross from Paramount's Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull will be up 60% to 65% from Friday. So both SATC and Indy 4 are looking at right around $20 million for today. Still, with a huge $15.7M disparity in Friday's numbers, Sex And The City seems a sure thing to win this weekend: it's already hauled in a big $46.9M compared with $32.2M for Indiana Jones. So it did in 2 days when movie analysts didn't even think it could do in 3. But hopes that the pic could break $75M or even $70M this weekend now look more realistic at $60M-$65M. It comes down to Sunday's real #s. Nevertheless, SATC will wear the crown for the biggest romantic comedy debut ever and bear the title of The Ultimate Chick Flick.
SATURDAY AM: It turns out SEX sells, according to Friday's official numbers for the biggest romantic comedy debut. No. 1 Sex And The City truly shocked Hollywood pros by opening with a hanging-from-the-chandeliers $26.9 million from 3,285 theaters.
The big question now is whether this staggering wanna-see among women for the HBO Films/New Line/Warner Bros female froth sustains through Saturday and Sunday showings so the weekend total can soar past $70M and maybe even $75M. I'm already hearing that studio moguls are looking through their film and TV libraries to see what else they can produce for the fortysomething-and-older female -- a demographic that the entertainment industry generally ignores. Not any more -- or is SATC a once-in-a-generation phenomenon? But younger women are also seeing the pic. As one tipster told me, "I saw the throngs of women waiting in line -- starting at 9ish and still there at midnight when we got out of the movie. The thing I noticed: the women were all early 20s, not in their 30s or 40s at all. They were 18 to 25. So I'm not sure where people are getting this over-40 demo but I am pretty sure it's the young girls who are the most excited for this flick."
Paramount's megahit Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull fell a slightly more than expected 59% for $12.2 million from 4,264 venues for No. 2. Then again, when it opened a week ago, most people had the Friday off, or half-day off, before the Memorial Weekend. The Spielberg/Lucas actioner should finish the weekend with another $40M-$42M for a new cume of $212M. A real surprise was the No. 3 finish of The Strangers with $7.5M. The horror pic, distributed by Universal, is the highest grossing Rogue Picture to date from 2,466 plays. It cost only $9 million and it should gross around $20 million for the weekend -- a successful bit of SATC counter-programming.
FRIDAY 11 PM UPDATE: Talk about great Sex! Friday's opening was a sold-out blow-out! Really early North American box office numbers for Sex And The City could be as high as $26 million to $28 million and for the weekend $65 million to $75 million. That's stunning the Hollywood pros. "It could reach or exceed the high end if the final West Coast numbers match the East Coast's. Those totals are huge," one rival studio exec exclaimed to me. "It's a true sensation. People thought it would do well. But nothing like this. The top end expected was $40M." Still, some experts wonder if this HBO Films/New Line/Warner Bros pic is a front-loaded phenomenon and the numbers won't hold on Saturday. But Sex And The City will beat last weekend's No. 1 blockbuster from Paramount and Spielberg/Lucas, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, which made $12M today and should finish by Sunday around $37M-$39M: that's -60% but last Friday kicked off Memorial Weekend.
Friday night is date night at the movies. But in Los Angeles, Sex And The City female fans from as far away as Phoenix paid $60 for an opening night movie ticket and Cosmopolitan cocktails Friday in the bar of the Arclight theaters.
Outside the cineplex, groups of girlfriends organized private pre-screening "Manolos only" parties at nearby restaurants. (Photos, above and left, by Jim Stevenson) The computer fix-it company Geek Squad is handing out quarters at movie theaters in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles so guys dragged to the pic by their girlfriends or wives can play arcade games in the lobby.
In major U.S. cities, reports reaching me are that the R-rated follow-up to the HBO series about the now fortysomething gal pals sold out today because of the buying power of older women. "Remains to be seen how it does in the flyover states, but it's maxing out in the big cities. Absolutely crazy per-theatre averages in NY, LA, Houston," one insider just informed. "Early Friday returns are huge. If this holds, it has a good shot of beating Indy this weekend, with a total well above $40M. As of today alone, it's earned over $20M -- although that does include some presales."
Before Friday, movie analysts were steadily upping their domestic box office gross predictions for this HBO Films/New Line/Warner Bros' female phenom day by day based on the huge awareness and pent-up wanna-see by women who want still more of their favorite TV show that went off HBO in 2004 but lives on in syndication. My own box office gurus began raising their projected numbers from mid-$20sM to mid $40sM from 3,285 North American theaters in just one weeks' time period. And online ticket retailer Fandango reported that Sex And The City was accounting for an "extraordinary" 90% of its advance sales, with tickets being snapped up at the rate of 7 per second. An online survey of more than 10,000 moviegoers buying tickets from Fandango found that 94% were women, and that 67% planned to attend the movie this weekend with a group of female friends. "This is the wildest, most abnormal, movie of alltime," one rival studio marketing mogul exclaimed to me. "But it's hard to say how it will play through the weekend." Indeed, analysts expect Sex And The City to be a one-day wonder with a big drop-off for Saturday's and Sunday's shows, and a humongous fall-off for next weekend. That will depend on whether the pic can live up to its hype. And hyped it has been -- so much so that even overseas where the TV series plays in many foreign territories Sex And The City already has grossed nearly $12 million in overseas business since mid-week, including more than $7 million in Britain, nearly $3 million in Germany and $1.3 million in France, according to studio figures.
Paramount's No. 1 blockbuster Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is still playing in a massive 4,264 venues and should take in another $40M-$45M this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to add to its one week cume of $170.8M. Also competing is Rogue Pictures / Universal's genre thriller The Strangers which has positioned itself as counter programming in 2,466 runs. Tracking suggests the film could do $8+M, which would be a solid opening for a film with a negative cost of only $9M. Also, for a horror flick, this one is better than the usual swill that either dumbs down or gorifies the genre.

Oh please, by the end of 08, you moronic “Sex” fans will be wishing you’d saved your money to buy gas and food….what a waste of money….to watch a bunch of no talent Ho’s. If you want to watch sluts, just head down to a local bar, you can observe for free.
Get a life.
What bunk!
THis movies like the series has nothing in common with real life. Women like it for the fashion and later able to fantasize about what if?
Bumme! Crapola!
Hated the money I spent on it…only because of my wife wanting to\see the fashions.
Our film was defective and we kept seeing the sound microphones used while filming at the top of the screen. This happened a LOT. The film was playing in 4 theaters at the cinema I went to today, and the manager said all 4 of their films were like this. He said they had telephoned the studio to see if all the films were like this. Anyone else experience this?
One female friend saw a 12:01 am showing last night – and took her 16-year-old daughter (on a school and work night).
When a mutual friend heard she’d seen the film without her, she left work early to catch a showing today so they could discuss it.
Tonight, they were both online raving about it to each other in a chat room.
While the guys were just oblivious.
Nikki
Its crazy I tell ya. I have been reading reports all over the net about this movie and I can tell ya, it’s like a must-see for the woman. ( I am sure Lu-ee will be in the line too:-)
They have done well to inform the masses of this movie and reckon it will be huge (not huge-like Spidey of course, silly me)
I guess it will gross in the highs of 40M to low 55M. I sure would be disappointed if it gross lesser than 40M cause of all the complaints I’ve heard of there being not enough movies catering to the female viewers. So it’s time for them to prove this point and make SITC a blockbuster (a final 200M gross)
Indy 4 is sure to get a big spank from Samantha. Given its already huge 1st week gross, 45M for 2nd weekend is a consolation.
Cheers
went to arclight hollywood this afternoon specifically to check out the strangers, just expecting it might be on one screen. it wasn’t there – choked out by at least seven sex and the cities, which looks really bad, and may indiana joneses, which was…
Just as the pendulum was swinging back in New Line’s court with film like this, Bewkes pulled the rug out from under Bob and Michael.
Bewkes is a douchebag and he is the one that should be fired instead of the 500+ New Liners who were nothing but loyal and hardworking. Well most were hardworking
I can think of one who landed solidly in the new Warner’s order that should have been castrated in the middle of the plaza at 116 n. robertson. At least then we could have proven to the world that Toby has no balls.
New Line has always been capable of hits like Sex and the City. And their upcoming slate looks solid, actually. Winding down the company will ultimately cost a fortune and Bewkes’ game plan is nothing but another failed act of corporate hubris to show wall street that he has a firm hand on the company. Right. Two words, dude: Speed Racer. You would have been better off firing Jeff Robinov, instead of all the good people at New Line that you had zero regard to help.
We had fun!!! Men use to call SAC girls “sluts” because they hate to see real female frienship! It is like having an extra mother-in-law.
Proof positive that men and women are different. I would have a hard time choosing between sitting through this numbskull piece of ka-ka and sticking needles in my eyes.
If the opening sequence doesn’t involve someone crawling into a lead-lined refrigerator that moments later gets hurled a mile by a nuclear blast then rolls to a safe landing to spill out an un-irradiated protagonist, then Sex And The City will be a bigger movie, and deservedly so.
I saw it tonight with girlfriends from work and it defintely lived up to it’s hype. It was a blast and I can’t wait to see it again.
As a woman I have no desire to watch this movie. I couldn’t stand the series, why would I pay $10.00 for this movie.
If I want to watch something about sex, there is always porn.
actually Armand here is one we agree on: i expect this move will have “legs” this weekend, and possibly next weekend as well, ratings notwithstanding.
cheers & enjoy the “plot.” wink wink
We loved it. It’s the first movie we’ve gone to the theater for in ages. It will be the only one this summer. Who wants to watch a bunch of old men prancing around as action heroes? LOL, give us a break already.
Why do men hate the series and now, this movie? Many women are dying to see it….just like many men were dying to see the new Raiders. What’s the diff?
Finally, a movie for women and gay men…LOL! If I take my girlfriend will I be labeled a wuss???
I’m a heterosexual guy so even when my wife *rents* this movie I’m not wasting my time. (Among other things, watching Chris Noth seemingly convinced he’s channeling Cary Grant is more than irritating on the best of days. And that’s just seeing the Trailer on TV.)
BUT…the fact that the movie is going to do very well says something so important and obvious that few studio execs will ever understand it. That is: There actually *is* an adult audience out there (i.e. older than 30) that have a lot of disposable income and who will pay for and see films in the multiplex if they aren’t “Speed Racer” or the latest slasher porn.
One of the reasons that attendance continues to drop at the movies (revenues are only up because ticket prices are up) is because the studios are chasing the same young demographic everyone else is.
So even if you despise “Sex And The (Very White, Rich, Irritating, Almost Totally Unrecognizable New York) City” its success may mean some studios get back to making more “Graduates” and fewer isolated-love-nests-in-the-woods-haunted-by-sociopathic
-slasher films. And, more to the point, films you can actually go see with your kids and not be blasted with 110dB, gruesome violence or an over abundance of vulgar language.
I thought the movie was cute, but SJP has done better. For instance her none speaking part in ” The Godfather ” when the sheets were thrown back and exposed her head ! Now that was real acting ! ( and you all thought it was a horse…silly you )
Our film print was defective too. Boom mic got abut 30 min of total screen time. I’m not talking a glimpse… I am talking the mic and the boom itself. Very distracting. Saw some lights and deflecter boards too.
Movie was cute.
Why such hostility from some who have commented? I simply do not understand it and to be honest, it is tedious.
For those that love SATC, as I do..and who had a husband surprise me with two tickets inside the lastest edition of Vogue (not corny, romantic after 20 years of marriage!) it was the the perfect movie.
I am so tired of the real life, nitty gritty, woe is the world, death to the plant if we don’t follow the mantra of global warming horror..crap that is out there. For once and for all, there is nothing, I repeat nothing wrong with some fantasy and fun. In fact, this world needs a bit more happily ever afters and less slit your wrist the world is going to hell!
Ladies..the movie is wonderful. Granted I am a 40 something woman who ‘grew’ up with Carrie and the gals. Some younger are not quite there yet, but you will be and once you see that expectations are not exactly what you wished for – realizing that having it all can mean so much more than what we were thought it did.
Happy weekend friends. Grab your cosmos and ignore those dissing the film. Let them see the latest docudrama from Michael Moore, you go and dream awhile..it’s okay to be happy, and it is certainly okay to love this movie.
Oh and one more thing. I don’t consider saving for two weeks a bit there and here out of our very strict budget to make his wife happy a ‘waste of money’. I consider it priceless. Deal with it!
I like how SEX IN THE CITY will make more in its first weekend than SPEED RACER will stand to make in its entire run — at about 1/3 of the latter’s cost. Nice set of priorities you have there, Jeff Bewkes. I like how Robinov will somehow walk away from this debacle with a big bonus, while everyone at New Line isn’t getting any sort of golden wristwatch (or golden compass for that matter), but rather, the proverbial golden shower.
I went to the movies tonight to see The Strangers with some friends.
I didn’t buy into all of the “sex and the city will flop” stuff because I was sure this thing had a big enough audience to atleast put up decent numbers, but I was amazed by what I saw.
Three different screens showing the movie, all sold out and a line to wait for the current screen to finish showing the movie that came out of the building and wrapped halfway around. It was like a female version of Star Wars.
Surprisingly, The Strangers showtime I had been hoping to make was sold out (possibly people turned down for Sex & the City making a second choice or planning to sneak in?) and I had to wait for the next screening.
“Sex and the City” should surprise a lot of people, though I’m curious to see if the audience keeps up for the rest of the weekend.
I saw this movie tonight with a large group of women and really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Although it is fashion and shopping and sex and everything women supposedly chat about. For me it was the interaction of the characters. So, be it in your flip flops or your heels go and see this movie. I promise it will make you smile.
The fact that you are seeing the mic and boom in the frame are not a defect in the film. They are a mistake in the production of the film. They should not have been seen in the shot, but they are, and they are permanent.
Dear “Whatever,”
You’re making the same idiotic point the men on here are and you’re no more right than them. Both of these movies are mediocre to crappy and neither “deserve” much of anything. It’s simply that this swill appeals to you more than Indy. Sure, the fridge gag is over the top. Indy is a cartoon, you see? Samantha Jones is overtop. Samantha is a cartoon, you see? But please don’t make the mistake of thinking this garbage is art or anything worthwhile beyond being fluffy eye candy (which is precisely what Indy is as well).
Wow, do men vehemently hate this piece of fluff.
are box office hits only for guy dominated action movies with a single model/actress under 25 delivering a total of eight insipid lines?
This fantasy fluff is such a hit because finally women get to see a ridiculous film where women get to say and do anything (just like we’ve been watching you boys say and do in your ridiculous movies for decades).
Had to comment because the male reaction to this movie has been so extreme that it made me laugh. Guys: there is truly nothing so threatening in this fluff that it should draw you to your computer to vent.
My personal thoughts: finally a non-mellow drama chick-flick starring fun women in their 30s-50s… now if only the SAC girls weren’t all white and straight.
Rachel, if you’re 40-ish, still reading Vogue and Cosmo, and didn’t ‘grow up’ till you watched a television show, then you need to seriously reevaluate your life. I mean really, if it took 2 weeks of saving to buy a Vogue and two movie tickets, then you and your hubby need to spend time working, not going to the movies.
Dudes, if you’re single then you need to get down there and check out the chicks, they’re everywhere! And dressed to kill. I have never seen so many attractive women in one place. It was amazing. I was just one of ten guys in the theatre. Or, take your girl, she’ll thank you for it good. Mine did! Funny, funny movie too.
I think this goes to prove that America is sick of left wing political preaching when it goes to see a movie. Where are the films about patriotic, brave soldiers Hollywood? Or does that not fit with your hateful, proto-marxist agenda?
Oh, sorry. I came here via Drudge, I just tap out the standard response.
There was an addition of a black female actor, who had an important role in the movie, so it wasn’t an exclusively white cast.
I think the main point about this movie for me was that it differed from the series in the way that the edginess was removed. But with all that it still had an important moral to the story about the wedding having dwarfed the participants.
I liked the series. I didn’t hate this film. I think it will remain a classic precisely because of the fashions shown in it. I am sure that the boom mikes were left in on purpose as tongue in cheek statements.
Sarah Jessica Parker is sooooooo ugly!!
Why are men hating it? Because it bores them to death. The whole premise of the show was incredibly boring to most straight men and the end of it was cause for celebration. The movie is just a longer does of it.
Men and women are different and the movies we are willing to pay money to see are different as well. Women, don’t force you man to go see this and you won’t get drug off to see Das Boot II or other guys only flick.
So much bile for people who want to see a movie? Surely there are worse things in the cinema (or in life). Grow up. Let people watch what they want. It’s not hurting anyone.
Wow! Priceless hilarity. Whats with the boom mike? An insider joke. Anyway we all enjoyed it. This is a keeper.
Van: This is ample demonstration that women have their collctive brains (or lack thereof) in the clouds.
Mellow-Drama? Try Melodrama and be correct.
Have fun ladies. OK guys you now have a few hours of peace.
As a huge SATC fan who also owns all of the DVDs, I couldn’t wait to see this movie. When I went to the theatre last night with my 16-year-old daughter I was surprised to see that I wasn’t alone. The auditorium was packed which just added to the excitement of the film. As for the SATC the Movie…OUTSTANDING!!!! I just loved it and feel Michael Patrick King has been unfairly maligned in reviews, particularly the New York Times.
People who have NEVER watched the series have no right criticizing something they know little about.
I never want the series to end. I’m waiting for the next installment of these wonderful characters and their lives.
Oh Please!!! I’ve never seen so many Big City Lesbo Loser Sluts on the movie screen as well as inside the movie theater lobby….don’t worry it will soon become a movie regular on TBS…SJP can now upgrade her New York apartment and have some left over for needed cosmetic repairs.
I went to see SATC with my wife deliberately, knowing that it was a chick flick. I don’t know what is wrong with most of the other guys, because I went because I expected to see a lot of gratuitous nudity (because of the R rating) and wouldn’t get any grief from my wife about it!! The well-endowed partner of the dude next door to Samantha’s place was more than even I had expected!
Tired of the folks who say the show/movie isn’t real. The storylines, the loads of money for the clothes & shoes and parties ’til 4am every single night are way out there many times, but the reason I came back every week was because of the friendships between the four of them. Oh, and by the way—–it’s not just for women and gay men. I’m a straight guy that’s Charlotte’s age that has always loved the show and I think it’s because everyone would love to have a group of friends like that, that they could depend on through thick and thin—male or female. Take care all, Scott
The liberation of women was a big mistake. Looking back we can see once women got the vote we have lost our position of power. When these women and their psychologically castrated men wake up one day they will be living under either Chinese rule or Sharia Law or both. Thank god for the Second Amendment and real men. Whoo Yeah.
For those of you who just don’t get it. its too late.
This TV show and movie are AWESOME.
Those four women are seasoned , theatrically, trained
actresses, with lots of work behind them. They
may not have all had break through movies or shows
till now, but they are talented and no nonsense women
The series was awesome and so is the movie.
with the woes of the world, its nice for some
escapism. Grow up and stop being so judgmental
it might not be for everyone….but anyone can see
its a hit….the woman are beautiful in there own ways
just relax…sit back and get away for a while
it hurts no one….and enriches your well rounded life.
with just some good old fashion FUN…its not serious .. its FUN
Haven’t seen the film, but it’s common to see boom microphones and the like in a theatrically screened version of a film. This happens in a lot of films, it’s just that we’re usually not aware of it.
Why? It’s because all film shots are framed in camera using what’s known as an “action safe” area. Anything that happens onscreen should take place in this “action safe” area. Anything that happens outside of this area has the possbility of being cropped out when being projected on the theatre screen.
Film projectionists know this and are supposed to project the film in a way that centres the image and crops out the unnecessary edges. So 95% of the time we don’t see the edges of the image, since they “bleed” off the edges of the screen. So no boom microphones, lights or deflector screens that were safely out of the “action safe” area.
Occasionally though, a sloppy projectionist will screen a film improperly, and you’ll see things you’re not supposed to see. When films finally make it to home video, the production company will crop this stuff out, so it won’t appear within your TV screen frame.
People!
The fact that you see the boom mic in the shot is NOT the fault of the crew on the set – it’s the fault of your lousy projectionist who can’t operate his equipment. in MANY films, the boom mic is in the shot – because the film frame is square, and then it gets cropped by the projectionist to make it the rectangle you see (aside in the case of anamorphic – yes, yes, yes, I KNOW!) – so that all that gear is NOT seen. Pretend you are watching a widescreen movie on your square TV, and suddenly you could lift the black bars away – VIOLA – you would see boom mics, cables, people on the floor flagging off lights – all sorts of crap.
However, many theaters are lousy – they hire fools who don’t know how to crop their gates in the projector. And then they blame the sound guy or the director. (as if they even know what that means – “yeah, it must have been the director who allowed the boom to get in the shot”)
I’m tired of everyone blaming us for seeing the boom. It’s not us. Believe me.
Thanks for your time.
Dudes-
Listen, we need to CELEBRATE not hate this TV series and film.
Basically, it promotes promiscuity and rando sex, which is a good thing.
It validates the masculine instinct women have to nail strangers and then move on which is a total bonus for us.
So stop the hate and go to a bar near an Arclight or theater near you and nail some randos.
Have fun a be safe, this opening weekend is like slut lube, don’t miss out.
What a joke and too many are not getting it. This is a Hollywood attempt to continue a TV show that pandered to those who think cheap free sex is moral. Sorry I wasted money, but had to see as I am a reviewer. Gag me with a spoon. Women I know, real woemn, feel the same way. After watching this I will happily tell all I contact as a professional reviewer to avoid it. No wonder certain radical anti Christian religious groups consider us an immoral and sick nation. My wife, daughter and I had to rewatch The Perfect Stranger and Another Perfect Stranger to purge our minds of the filth in this film. A Five Yuck rating for this piece of trash.
“Unreal Yentas and the City”
Would Big even date someone w a horseface?
-Another hetero male who’d rather stay home and smell my own farts.
One reason there might be so many boom mikes and such is — outside of poor framing by projectionists — that Warner Bros. cut everyone in quality control and print-checking in post at New Line. There are only a handful of people still there and those are the ones being kept to work on preexisting projects through the end of the year. Again, great forethought from Nikki’s favorite fella, “ballsy” Jeff Bewkes.
Boy, how men hate to see women enjoying something they just don’t get! Yeah, we have something out there that is just for us. Isn’t that too bad. Go to ye local bar and suck it up! I am a die hard fan and SO WHAT? Love the show, LOVE the movie. It’s about something you just don’t understand. The ultimate bonding between women.
I took a vacation day to see it in Salisbury NC Friday at 11:15 a.m. there were 8 in the audience and we all loved it ( one was a man ) There were four female ( 60 ish ) seated alone. This pix crosses all age boundaries and was fab! . I do not know any women in this town who watched the series nor do I know any who watched sopranos, pray for me living in this southern “culture”!
I usually hate movies like this (chick flicks). Woody Allen films more my type. Anyway loved the series and the movie was absolutely great!!! I will definately see this again!!! Sad it’s officially over though. Maybe there wil be a sequal. I could watch these girls into their 60’s. They are just too funny and reminds me of my 20’s clubbing in NYC!!
I found it so ironic that men constantly criticize SATC as unrealistic and a bunch of sluts. Please tell me how Iron Man and Indiana Jones are a realistic portrayal of men. Its a shame that women are more than half of the population but are rarely the lead character in movies.
Never saw a SATC episode, much less the movie, don’t plan to. I wouldn’t comment if my wife did or didn’t. (NOYMB) I am Fascinated and a bit surprised by the comments. It must be a gender thing.
What could be wrong with a bit of emotional projection and fantasy? Morning comes one way or another
I had been so looking forward to this movie that I thought I’d be disappointed…it turned out to be better than the series. There’s bigger laughs, and Charlotte actually has probabaly the biggest laughs!?!? We went with 20 friends. EVERYONE LOVED IT!
To the people who are so uptight, grab a cosmo, take a break from your bitterness, and have a fabulous time at this movie! If that doesn’t work- go get the “rabbit”.
See those 3 dolled-out airheads in the pic at the top of this page? That’s who this piece of crap was made for. And there are millions of ‘em out there! The airheads, I mean. Without them Leno’s “Jaywalking” wouldn’t exist.
“BREAKING NEWS…..LIFE ON MARS”
The Sign says: “NO MEN ALLOWED”
It’s interesting the number of men who feel compelled to comment about their disdain for this movie. They call women shallow, but isn’t watching football and hunting also “shallow?” Why the judgment, people? I love SAC AND I’m deep – can’t I be everything?
Sure, it’s the exact opposite of my life, and that’s why I like it. Life is hard enough without having some lighthearted escapism. What’s wrong with that? I loved seeing all the women dressed up, excited, clapping and giddy – a true bonding time. Are there other things to bond over? Sure. Are there other things to spend your money on? Sure. Was it a great movie? SURE.
The show and now the movie have such wide-ranging appeal because it speaks to women in their 20s up through their 60s. I don’t know why everyone is shocked it’s doing so well. American women have major spending power and perhaps this is the first time a film has proven it.
Also, I can’t think of another movie with four female stars over 40 — it’s fairly groundbreaking. It’ll be interesting to see if any other movies try to capitalize on SATC’s success by giving meaningful lead roles to older actresses.
Hopefully the success of SATC will be a “game changer” around Hollywood. Not one segment of the “audience” was asking for something like SPEED RACER. But suddenly something like the SATC movie blows the box office tracking out of the water. What does that tell you? There is a huge audience sitting at home, waiting for movies that appeal to their demo.
And that groups of women are making a whole evening out of it says that there’s still a huge social component to seeing movies in theaters.
So come on studios. Change it up!
the misogynist backlash against this film at first saddened me… but now it just makes me laugh. the men who are spewing bile against it are obviously very threatened! it must truly pain them to see women living fabulous, wealthy lives on their own terms, with or without them.
calm down boys. you still make more money, have more opportunity and run the planet.
i love that it’s doing such amazing box office. now finally the “men” who run hollywood will see that WOMEN BUY MOVIE TICKETS. i mean, duh. if we are willing to spend 600 dollars on shoes, don’t you think we’ll spend 12 dollars on a movie ticket? get with it. join us here in 2008.
While i’m not a fan of Sex in the City, there are very few real chick flicks out there, while we get a Judd Apatoe picture about every 6 months. For having had to put up with our Knocke Up Superbad 40 year old Dewy Cox, they deserve it. Just remember guys, Samantha was once Lassie!
I am 62 years old and I love the movie ,I laugh and laugh and to all of you who are prunes and bitching about the movie let me said I love the friendship ,the beauty and the drama and the sex that is what is all about . I did go alone because I do not have friends open minded and ready to laugh but We love the sex ,We love the City .
The women going to see this movie are as about attractive as a st^t stained piece of underware after a southern barbeque.
Too funny to see house frows who can’t pay to get laid cash out on this HBO freak show!
Sarah Jessica Parker has a horse face!
For everyone trashing the show and the movie, get over yourself. boo hoo ‘their whores’ ‘their stupid’ ‘their self centered’, ugh, you people are annoying. Dont see it if you don’t like it, obviously SATC doesn’t need you anyway.
Ok so all the guys on here who are bashing the movie saying the girls that watch this need to get a life? look at yourself… your on here day and night commenting on other people. YOU are the one with no life. Let me tell you something, I am a guy and I am a fan of the show and the movie was great. The movie IS about girls. It is realistic and I am sure big DAVE up there does not live in New York and has no idea what life is like in New York. That movie was one of the best movies I have seen because it is actually realistic. So do not come in here with your rude comments and your misunderstanding of the show if you have not even watched it. Let the girls alone for this one and be a man and accept that girls may just not like you.
I am happy for this movie I am glad it did well. That reason is we can all see guys like you get frustrated with it because it did better than your upcoming Star Trek movie will ever do.
The Strangers looks to be a fairly sizeable sleeper hit in proportion to production cost but in this seasoned horror fan’s opinion its primary appeal will be with kids who haven’t seen enough similarly themed works as a basis for comparison to punctuate just how trite and unimaginative it is. The setup is good but the final two thirds are insulting as the idiocy of the tormented couple shamelessly lived up to genre conventions and the masked villains defied physics, not to mention time and space, as they ominously moved to and fro a creaky log cabin and the surrounding forest while totally circumventing detection unless the plot required it for a cheap scare jolt. And the ending is just as nihilistic as many of the staples from the oft derided torture porn subgenre.
Wow….all the men on here who are ranting and spewing such hatred at this film should pull the front of your shorts out, look down and confirm that you still have a penis. If this film so offends your manhood then I seriously doubt you have anything down there. Grow a pair and grow up guys, it’s just a film. And no more ridiculous or unbelievable as say Indiana Jones or Iron Man.
For those wondering about the retarded vitriol in this thread against this harmless movie…uh, it’s called “the Drudge Effect” ie: dumb Bush-blowing rednecks railing against anything they perceive as “librul” (fashion, women not subservient to fat broke-dick slobs in NASCAR tanks, bathing etc.)
Why are angry, bitter men leaving all these negative comments about the film and those of us who saw it.
See what you become when you can’t get laid.
It’s just sad to think that these fictional characters–a bunch of gossipy, vain, loose women–could have such an impact on living, breathing human beings. But it’s also not surprising, vanity is America’s biggest export. And these girls channel that just fine, what role models for everybody.
The characters and the storylines are quite real, if you’ve ever lived a successful large urban environment single mom type life. If you live in the sticks and shop in malls, perhaps you do think these people are not real. But they are. Go to a city. Some people live like this. And since when was anything ever realistic in a Hollywood movie!!
I was raised in a small town and couldn’t wait to get to New York. Then later I moved to San Francisco. Girls do live this life, really. Honest. I adored this series and this movie, even if it is part drivel. I loves me some drivel if it looks like Cynthia Nixon walking on the Brooklyn Bridge. So romantic!!!!
P.S. And to the guy who prefers Woody Allen movies, did it ever occur to you that the major story lines in his movies revolve around female characters. Actresses crave being cast in his films. Those films are often the ultimate in chick films.
PLEASE, Hollywood, give us great female characters and storylines like in the old days of Hepburn, Bette Davis, Garbo, Crawford, Fonda, Sophia Loren! If you build them, we will come!!!
Who’s into this flick? Latte sippin’, SUV drivin’, i gave my first lewinski in the 5th grade, Obama supporters
Oh now ye men, stop wearing your di*k on ye sleeves. Calm down ye dainty little heads. All of you who have spitted vile against SATC are really mad about something else. The thought of female goofing off and having fun sounds way too much like….well you. So if they, the female species, goof off and have fun then who is going to stay home and do all the boring crap??? And to that I humbly say….SUPER F-YOU!
I don’t have any of the hostility toward “Sex and the City” that a lot of men appear to have.
To me, it just looks like gay men writing and producing what they think superficial city whores live like.
This will be like “Brokeback Mountain”: all the gays crowed all over the Net about how they went to see that movie a dozen times over a weekend to jack up the box office numbers and then insist that America went to see to it. I figure the chicks will do the same with “Sex and the City.”
why does everyone feel the need to bash the movie, the actresses and everything else related? It’s just for ENTERTAINMENT !!
went last nite w a group of friends all the way out to burbank (hollywood was sold out all over as of last weekend). I have never, EVER experienced anything like it in any movie theatre for any movie in my life – not star wars, not indy, nothing. The buzz in the air, the huge lines, the sold out shows, and the palpable excitement in the air before AND after the movie ended. almost everyone in the audience was bawling. I dont get the intensity of the negative backlash from all these threatened men who havent even seen the movie and some of the negative reviews. the writing, performances, everything was top notch and the movie delivers in spades exactly what its audience wants. for me personally it was just so great to spend time w these characters again that I discovered I really missed like old friends – the 2 plus hours flew by – and I’m a (gay) guy! i can only imagine how intense the movie was for the women in the audience – my friend said she needed to go home and lay down after it was over. and trust me, its going to have repeat business that movies like indy, etc won’t. its audience watches episodes over and over and over then buys the dvds to boot. hats off to michael patrick king and company for what creating is really a once in a lifetime cultural phenomenon.
The movie was OK – I was entertained, but I could’ve done without the porn. What happened to leaving things to the imagination – that ruined the movie for me!!!
Lets be honest…its a porno flick with just enough clothing to get by on a ‘R’ rating. Not something you want to send your teenage kids to.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I will and I agree with those who have said we have enough “shoot ‘em up, murder, kill, kill, kill” movies so let’s have something upbeat and fun for a change. The Academy Award nominations this year were sooooo depressing! We have seen a couple of them and they are so bleak they border on pathological.
Maybe Hollywood will wake up to the fact that there’s money to be made by marketing to the “over 40″ female crowd instead of catering to men and teens.
absolutey the gayest most trashy trash currently on the screens
Films like “Jackass” are hits with males under 40. The difference being that men don’t think of such filsm as some kind of major cultural and social statement like the female fans of SATC are making it out to be for their demographic. Both films have over the top characters, yet SATC is somehow “realistic”. Give me a break.
I just saw this movie and its was absolutely
FABULOUS!!!! sure , If you have not followed the
show since the beginning,The characters can get lost
in the translation. However this movie was everything
a SITC fan wanted…love, funny, real moving story lines, hilarious, truthful and just plan FUN.
The movie theatre was buzzing .. 30 , 40 , 50 something
and some hubbies in the mix.. perfect strangers engaged with each other, it was fabulous
I’m going again and maybe again!!!!
The women looked gorgeous….and for you haters?
who think they are ugly.. Get glasses bucko!!!!
Cause these women are fabulous at 40 and Kim cantrell?
she makes 20 something look bad. Lighten up
its great and they did not disappoint!!! Peace
sex without titties Maybe they’d draw in some of the male crowd if these women were attractive and not flat as a board (yes except the one) harpies. Can’t wait to see the sequel lose boat loads of $$$.
I agree with Rachel above – what could possibly be wrong with a little fun. I have only seen a few episodes of the tv show but enjoyed them a lot. If I were a fan I would of course go see it to find out what happens. I think the gripers here must work for rival studios.
We know it’s not Boom Mic Operator’s fault. Boom operators are always good about keeping an eye on the ‘picture-safe’ area shown in the camera’s view finder. That’s a no brainer and I think the boom operator in this movie was being told that he was pciture-safe. Projectionist has nothing to do with it at the theater I saw, in the South Bay area of LA. My opinion is that the lab created some prints that were simply in the wrong aspect ratio.
Curious …
WHO ELSE SAW THE BOOM MIC IN THEIR SHOT AT THE THEATER ?
Leave posts that say if you saw a boom mic, and which city you live in.
I think it’s pathetic that our society watches trash like this. Do women find it empowering to watch fictional characters in fictional situations slut themselves around? Come on….
MAN, I hate it when Drudge Report posts a link here and the place fills with all those bitter losers from the Bible Belt who hate anything that doesn’t star Kirk Cameron.
Yeah, they call them “sluts” and “harpies” (wtf is a harpie, anyway?) but in the end.. people like escapism and fun froth… men like one kind, women like another.. gay men seem to like both for some reason.
anyway.. glad it did well. I think I’ll wait for the DVD but it looks fun, anyway.
What gets me is just how BAD the show is. Quite simply it isn’t funny and it’s a testament to the power of the vapidity of the female mind that they can find such everlasting entertainment in it.
The thing that really IS puzzling to me about this is that it’s WAY more sucessful than a movie based on a TV show,( WITH the original cast, done just a couple of years after the show want off the air) should logically be. I mean, look at the track record of these things- usually, unless the roles are recast with “name” stars, “TV MOVIES” usually sink without a trace- the only exception being STAR TREK,and even those films never had THIS kind of impact at the box office. And while some people are claiming that this is some sort of “victory for Chick Flicks”, I suspect the most likely fallout will be a wave of similiar “TV MOVIES”. (I’ve gotta believe the producers of FRIENDS are probably doing their math right now…)
I’ll be taking my wife Saturday night to enjoy this film and then we’ll restage the sexy parts together at home. Any guy that can’t see that this film is a “sure thing” is probably spending too much time alone, wacking it.
I don’t understand the hostility and demographic grouping. I am a middle-aged hetero male and liked the show, even introducing my girlfriend to it.
Frankly, we get what we deserve. Americans are the most superficial, lazy, materialistic, corrupt perople on the planet and Hollywood is just playing to our hand. We;ve lost all of our values. Well, we have values, they just don’t amount to anything.
Grow up America. Stop settling for this kind of dribble. You are, or used to be, better than this.
I saw the film last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has many elements that make it entertaining – smart script, fine actresses who have a wonderful chemistry with each other, fun fashion, funky music (with a hip-hopped SATC theme), NYC, and a hunky looking Mr. Big. And no violence or killing. When “First Wives Club” came out a decade ago and made big bucks, talk was this would trigger the production of more flicks targeting the female demographic. It didn’t happen. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait yet another 10 years for a film whose female heroines are over 40.
I always loved the HBO series, so the movie will be a natural extension. Great looking women and designer fashion is forever stylish!
All of you “men” (and I use that term VERY loosely!) need to grow up and respect the fact that not everything is geared for your entertainment. You are not the only species who have sexual urges and desires, and can have a good time talking about various escapades with your good buddies! There are real men out there who truly appreciate the women in their lives. Even though they may not particularly see the appeal for the SATC show or the movie, at least they are pleased by the fact that this important person in their lives is so excited and looking forward to something so important to them. In other words, a REAL man knows when it is time to sit back, listen and not feel the need to have the final word to try and prove his manliness. You have no place commenting on a movie made for women. While we’re having our grown-up female fun, you need to just go and play with your cars, trains, rock-em-sock-em-robots, or your johnson and be good “little” boys until you hit maturity.
I went to see the movie with my sister who also a big fan of the show, and we just LOVED it! I had heard mixed reviews – it’s too long… it wasn’t like the show…the acting wasn’t great… BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! It’s not supposed to be “just like the show” – it’s a movie! AND I thought the characters lived up to their personalities they’d always had in the show, not to mention many funny lines!
I think it’s a fun night to spend with your girls and appreciate your friendships with them while watching 4 of our favorite girls from years past.
Don’t listen to the negative feedback. People always need something to bitch about.
Cheers!!!
Dave, You are such an idiot.
It was a big hit, too, here in Manila, thousands of miles away from New York. And hours ahead of it, time-zone wise. The last time I saw long lines in a theatre was when the first prequel to Star Wars opened here.
Although this big deal of it being a “chick flick” isn’t an issue here in Manila.
Tickets sold here inclusive of a chance to win a free trip for two to New York, only if you have a U.S. Visa.
Not to make you envious, tickets here cost only $3. And that’s a good movie house equipped with THX.
Sadly, most of the sex scenes and nude scenes were deleted by our narrow-minded movie censors.
Still, most people were entertained. And girls came seeing the film with their guys. So, the gender thing is not as divisive an issue at this side of planet earth.
Skeletons sitting around talking about meaningless crap. Now that’s entertaining! I can’t believe guys are letting themselves get dragged to this. Either the leash is too short or they’ve yet to leave the closet. The biggest losers are the guys going by themselves! If you have to pay 8 bucks to hit on chicks, you’re a straight out loser.
Ladies.. Are your lives so bland that you have to cling to this sorry excuse for a franchise?
Athough I’ll never see it, I have absolutely no problem with this movie. If this is what women want to see, I say, good for them.
One thing though, something I’ve asked several women, and never gotten a cogent reply. Why is that so many women who never let anyone within earshot forget about their high moral standards and upright character love watching movies about women who are, face it, just sluts? I asked the same question about “Pretty Woman,” another movie featuring a slut, in this case, a woman who actually traded sex for money, that women loved. Never really got a satisfactory answer from any women.
The only conclusion I can draw is that none of you women who love this kind of movie will have any problems whatsoever if the men in your lives pick up a stray woman just like those in this movie now and then, or actually traffic with prostitutes, just like in “Pretty Woman.”
Oh. Don’t like that? How about if your guy picks up Sarah what’s her name or Julia Roberts? Is it OK then?
Come you backwards Midwest white trailer trash. Can’t you identify with women buying $500 designer shoes and going to bed eating sushi before bumping and grinding in satin sheets with a Metro/Hetro/Homo/Lesbian sexual in their 5,000 a month New York Condo. It’s great escapism for you clowns out there paying $4 a gas to drive to your idiotic and worthless Bible Belt jobs. Get with the program.
Every single second of this movie was a complete and utter treat – what a glorious tribute to women! Forget the critics – go see the movie! The movie showed the more human side of these characters and every one of us can relate to all of them at different points. Women’s friendships are so important and that is what this movie really hit home about – men or no men, we will always have each other! And I, for one, treasure those friendships!
Sex and the City taught me that I didn’t have to care about anything and that I could sleep with who I wanted for money and it was alright! I LOVE YOU
May 31, 2008
Yesterday, with millions of others worldwide, my friends and I saw the Sex and the City movie. As my friend put it, the estrogen in the room was palpable. Groups of women walking side by side entered the theatre, some taking entire rows. The crowd seemed to be divided into two age groups, 20-something and 40+, most dressed in their finest SAC attire – the younger women in 4” strappy sandals and short, tight spaghetti strapped dresses; many of the older women in more sensible shoes, and those “special occasion” outfits that wind up in the back of a closet because you never have the chance to wear them.
We were dressed more casual, but not for lack of consideration, this was after all SAC and it was a big night for the fans of the show, like us, and, strangely enough, a big night for women in general. The show has been a catalyst for women’s friendships worldwide, and a celebration of what it means to be a women today: the good and bad decisions we make, our relationships with men, the stumbling, falling and picking ourselves up, and throughout it all the loyalty, comfort and acceptance we receive from our friends.
The love affair we had with the HBO series was often intense. For many of us, it has helped us get through bad times in our lives. After my first husband died and I was ready to brave the world of dating again, the SAC ladies were the only women who seemed to know what I was going through, as strange as that may sound since they resided within the TV on which I was watching them. But at the time all of my friends were married. While I could entertain them with my loser of the week date story, they couldn’t share theirs with me. There was no shortage of horror date tales on SAC, and at the end of every episode, Carrie would wrap it up her customary astute commentary.
True to form, the movie was Sex and the City with all its bling, high fashion, botox and shoes, but didn’t have the depth of the TV series. While the movie missed opportunities to explore and deepen its characters, it was the energy in the theatre that gave the film its worth, the universality of the crowd’s response to inside jokes, to character’s mannerisms, to the twists of in the story lines. It was like we were all in this together, even if all we were sharing was entertaining chick flick. But SAC is a chick flick with a past, a past of six seasons that ran from 1998 until 2004. Throughout those seasons, we all experienced our own challenges and growth. We lost lovers and gained friends, we married, divorced, had children, we’ve gotten jobs, been promoted, and quit, we’ve started business and taken classes, we’ve changed our look, and altered our outlook. Sitting in that theatre, I realized although we may not know each other’s stories, we all know we have them, and though our stories may be different, the emotions that accompany them are shared by everyone in that room. And at one time or another, we’ve all turned to our virtual friends, the women of Sex and the City.
It was earlier in the evening, however, that I had the true Sex and the City experienc. Dana, Laurie and I had dinner at a hidden gem of a restaurant on Capital Hill.
Though we did not have any Cosmos, we enjoyed great food, drink, and converation. The company of two incredible women, sharing our stories, philosophizing about life and love – to me that is the gist of Sex and the City.
Okay women, what can possibly be your interest with these cheap NY half actors? …I am guessing there is some attraction to their style or something. From a guy’s point of view Sara Jessica Parker is a 3. Okay, maybe she gets a 4 for being willing to do anything to get laid which just makes her a middle aged cougar. With that said, is that the attraction, these women are ho hum average and are on a movie screen, so women go to see them? I have to tell you that on the average day in the city I see hundreds of women, on the street who are ‘real lookers’ versus these pretend vixons. Best wishes with your 15 minuts of fame.
So which is it girls, is it a realistic portrayal of female life or fantasy escapism? These women live completely superficial and PATHETIC lives, stop idolizing them.
The intellectual and ethical bankruptcy of modern entertainment is dismal!
And for the record I don’t like “guy” movies with silly characters either, so don’t use that retort.
Also many of my favorite movies have female leads (hard candy, serenity, spirited away) so don’t use that one either.
one thing i’m really confused about. why are men reading and commenting on here? LOSERS……..
I won’t go see this movie. I would love to see the NYC scenes and the fashions and the apartments, but I won’t see the movie for the same reason I didn’t watch the show-the gratuitous sex. It is embarrassing and caters to the base part of us all. Clean it up, Hollyweird!
Yawn, I’ll wait for an “L Word” movie, deeper characters, better sex…..
The boom mic will never be on screen unless you have a incompetent projectionist or projection equipment. The aspect ratio was not different from print to print. There are two 35mm film aspect ratios Scope and Flat. Every scope film has the same aspect ratio as every other scope film, and the same for every flat film.
Sex in the City was flat which makes it slightly easier for a minor framing issue to show the boom mic. As the film isn’t stretched out by the lens, it requires less cutting off of the film picture by the apature plate (a metal plate between the bulb and the film which cuts off excess light to assure that only the screen is lit.
In each of the instances where you saw a boom mic, the film was out of frame. Sometimes it takes less of a framing error to have it be in the shot, but thats what happened. Had the film been properly framed it would never show in the film. I wish I could have heard the manager of that theater that said all 4 of their prints were messed up, that is pure incompetence. As someone who has done projection for a long time, it pains me to see such things, as in almost every case an attention to detail and real training (beyond just learning to thread) would solve this problem.
Wow, Kim Katrall is sooo effen fine for her age. She is a GMLF, grandmother I’d like to … Keep kickin but Sam.
The only straight men that would go to see this thing are the ones who are forced to hold their wives’ purses near the dressing room.
SJP is not ugly. She is ethnic looking, like Jennifer A. She is there to diversify the audience. She is the average looking, somewhat vulnerable girl we can all identify with. Yes, most of us would love to look like Kim Catrall; however, life is sooo not fair.
Gents -
Might I respectfully suggest getting a clue? SATC is the best sure-fire bedding tool for a secure hetero guy in years! Simply offer to a) pay for her and her friends to go see the movie, b) have them over to your place first as you play private bartender, c) act really interested when she comes back and tells you the full story, and d) reap your rewards as she repays you all night!!
Or .. if you want to get her really excited … suggest a date night as you take her yourself. That alone will get you a quickie on the way!!
lighten up, folks. it’s just a movie (with great shoes, a few weird hats, and some great scenary).
Love SAC.
We live in NYC and both my wife and I love SAC.
Fashion is fun; there was a time when Americans were considered the best dressed.
So what can I say – I love NYC and I love SAC.
For some reason liking SAC is not considered manly.
I don’t get it. I am straight, was quite a player before my happy marriage, do sports.
Oh well, time to wake up my wife, squeeze her fresh orange juice and make her breakfast in bed and then off to 5th ave PRADA store, where everybody knows your name.
I got to tell you originally I thought these four scags were just plain vile, but if that’s what women aspire to, god bless. I lived on the upper east side fifteen years. Those shrews don’t exist. Men have the Stooges and Bond it’s all just a diversion. Lets do a Leave it Beaver reunion though.
I can see why this movie is so popular among women cos the sex and money is alwyse the topic for girls. Just find a place for romancing with Mr. BIG –
” millionairelover.com “
Why this movie is so papular among women?
This is a movie. Get a life. You don’t like it don’t see it. Why is it okay to bash women and what women like?
Where is that okay?
Guys that whine about it, that is why you can’t get laid.
Iloved it , loved it. Went with 3 friends and will go again and buy the DVD. All women ,whatever age can relate. Have been looking forward to it all year and I wasn’t disappointed. The male posters here must understand it wasn’t made with you in mind !
Ok im not a fan of the show by any means… but what the hell is up with all you people who think Sarah Jessica Parker is ugly? Compared to the other three stars she’s by far the best looking of the bunch, and there are dozens if not hundreds of actresses out there who WISH they could look at least as good as SJP… yeah girls like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton are waaaaayyyy better looking… maybe after you’ve had half a liter of vodka and did an 8-ball to go with it!
This movie was aweful start to finish
I hated every minute of this movie. What has this world come to?
Yeah I think this movie sends a bad message to America and a bad message to women everywhere with its sexism.
Waste of time and I feel dumber after having seen it.
I saw this movie wit my girlfriend and I dumped her after it was over because my eyes were opened to how stupid this fake lifestyle of hers really is.
Stupid movie….I want my money back!
I don’t think women act this ridiculous. The girls from SITC act like self-worshiping manhaters and I can’t watch that.
CaT~!
Hey Dr, Fred,
I think your so-called “real women” only tell you they don’t like sexual freedom because they just don’t want to have sex with you.
guysPeople today who think that sexual behavior like that shown in this movie is some sort of new cultural sea-change aren’t very familiar with their history. People talk about it more in public, for sure, but there was plenty of this kind of sex 100, 200, 500, 2000 years ago.Ladies,
I saw the movie and thought it was fantastic! Why is it that women never support women. You wonder why we make 70 cents on the dollar compared to men.
Hollywood never wants to do movies with anyone over 40 so I’m thrilled it’s raking in the dough. Jeez maybe the men who control Hollywood will actually try to include older women in films.
Sexism is alive and well in your posts and all over media reaction to this movie. It’s men trashing “Sex”. Threatened much, fellas? What would people say if this type of venom had been aimed at a movie targeting African Americans? “Sex” is wildly entertaining compared to “Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull”, the current dreck based on male fantasies. And hey, isn’t virtually every studio film made these days about male fantasies?
I personally loved the movie. I was reading a comment by some guy above who took his wife to see it and now he is complaining about no one can relate to it, but some women can relate and their are some that just don’t know it because they haven’t seen it. Honestly, who can relate to Indiana Jones? I mean come on really!! Anything woman oriented geared towards a female audience someone especially men have a problem with it. And to all the women who don’t like Sex and The City..they have never watched it or they don’t have cable to watch it. Nothing is wrong with this movie. I took my husband who has never watched the series but went because he is interested in anything I am interested in and not once did he complain…he said he actually liked the movie. And yes their were a lot of men with their girlfriend/wives seeing SATC some just won’t admit it.
this movie is as mindless as the women watching it.
Sounds like the first poster, Dave, is a bit bitter about life to have to spend the time posting such negativity. It may not be your cup of tea but that didnt stop Woman…and Men from going out and seeing a nice fun movie with friends.
I saw it last night and loved it. Much better than Indy too.
Straight Men who complain about this movie dont seem to mind taking their girlfriends to see things explode in movies but when something like this movie comes up they have to shoot down everyone who likes it. I am guessing these are the guys who hold their ego on their sleeves and drive a motorcycle or SUV (Hummer) to prove they are a REAL Man.
You don’t see Woman bitching about the sexism in a show like say, Entourage? No because it is excepted and expected for Men to act like that. Woman talk about Men in a movie like Sex and the City and they are whores?
Grow up Men.
Signed, A Man who loves Sex and the City.
I saw the movie yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I would have my doubts, though, about any man who liked it–kind of like the doubts I have about men who like to go shopping with their wives and girlfriends. As for why women like it,it’s the clothes. And the shoes.
Wow. What an accomplishment in cinema. Four irritating chattering chicks act like whores and get menopausal women to flock to see them. Good job all!
I am a no make up, plain jane, fifty plus, married etc… I went to the movie last night with three women friends. Only watch the TV show once or twice…
WA LA… Loved it!!!!
http://www.thatwhichisgood.com (my life after a lay off)
Ugly, they are all way too ugly!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Sex and the City – the show AND the movie. My wife and I (we have been happily married for almost eight years) used to look forward to watching it every Sunday night. Yes, the characters are more than a little shallow, looking for love in all the wrong places, finding it with the wrong guy – like a lot of people in real life! This movie is a lot more true to life than its sharpest critics would ever care – no, make that DARE, to admit. The show and the movie was just plain FUN….and FUNNY! What’s wrong with that?
I watched “Sex and The City” for years with my wife. You know what, I like the show because it makes her happy. I figure if she enjoys the show that much, it can’t be too bad.
We saw the movie yesterday and hells-bells, I thought it was GREAT!! If you liked the show, I think you’ll like the movie. I really don’t understand the guys hatin’ on this movie – I guess it’s just guys that are insecure in their masculinity. Granted, I don’t really care about the fashion and stuff, but seriously, compared to 90% of the crap that Hollywood puts out, it sure is nice to go see a movie that’s actually aimed at ADULTS!! All of the haters need to just move on to the next action flick or whatever.
I and my significant other saw SATC the other night. We loved it. My only question: Why isn’t the film X-rated? I mean, you see everything, men and women alike.
The guys comments here are hilarious! I’m sure all this vitriol means something but I’m laughing too hard at it to figure it out. What’s the bid deal?
I wonder if women reacted with the same antipathy to macho flics like 300? Don’t think so.
Further evidence of the decline of Western civilization, when a mindless script of cliche-ridden female chatter interspersed with product placement qualifies as newsworthy.
Shoes and bags, is that what women struggled for since the 70’s?
I went to see this on opening night with my wife and her sister. We are all in our forties and we loved it. I thought it was great to just relax and let the story unfold and get caught up in it. As an aspiring engineer I really like dissecting and taking things apart, and solving problems. This was a great escape and made my wife happy I was there to enjoy it with her. I realized that at some level, while SATC may seem shallow, after having watch the entire series with my wife a couple of times, that it is about how these four friends deal with the loves and losses in their lives. The designer labels just add a touch of business to the beauty that all four have. And as a guy who admires beauty, it was certainly fun to see how many costume changes there were.
Who wants to watch a bunch of old broads yap? There’s only one do-able one in the bunch! Fashion is for fools!
Men would line up in droves to see this movie if it starred hotties like Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Carmen Electra, and Elisha Cuthbert instead of the unattractive, 40+ fossils that are in it. Find me a straight guy that wants to watch a bunch of uggos whining and talking about sex and I’ll show you a LOSER. Sorry, but just speaking what much of the male population is thinking.
Real women don’t act the way these women do in this movie, nor do real women have any interest in such a movie. This is for the low life’s that have sadly become more prevalent throughout today’s degrading culture. How pathetic have so many in society become. For women to think that acting like a whore is somehow “liberating” or “progressive” is somehow uplifting and empowering to women is a warped view. Any women interested in such a movie is a tramp, and any man a metrosexual loser. Pathetic people.
You people watching this movie are why this Country is almost not a Country. Trash. Please get educated!
Fair movie, competent performances, a harmless exploitation of a sassy series, contrived and even a bit sad. The leads portrayed a lifestyle that seems unenviable, shallow and unrequited. But as a male, I don’t agree with many of the attacks on the film. It’s just a movie, and not a particularly good one at that. But it wasn’t horrible. As for the slams at SJP, OK, she’s not particularly attractive, but so what? If the argument is that people settle for less these days in terms of quality cinema, I agree. But women do age, and not all women need to be eye candy to be viable and interesting on the screen. If you had a good time, glad to hear it. But most discriminating viewers I know who saw it were less than impressed. In my own case, I left the film more grateful for a good wife with a good heart who lacks the greed and superficiality that marks this latest generation of film-goers. And by the way, although she was amused by it, (and she really liked the series), she commented that they should have left well enough alone. I am inclined to agree. But if this is your type of film, enjoy it. There’s plenty of mediocrity in film today. One more won’t hurt anything.
Terrible looking women
I saw the movie with 4 girlfriends- We went to a bar and had Cosmos and Flirtinis then went to the flick. I hadn’t been out with friends in almost a year. I had a great time.
Why are men SOOO down on this movie? Aren’t they happy THEY didn’t have to pay for the ticket this time? They get a night out with the boys without the ladies? Seriously? go effin’ watch your Iron Man, Rambo, Terminator etc… we don’t bash your testosterone-soaked MAN-movies, why the hell do you have a problem with a woman movie?
Do you feel threatened?
BFD- you don’t think any of the ladies in the move are good looking. Who cares?????????
STAY HOME and smell your own farts. Women can have a damn great time WITHOUT you… maybe that’s why you’re upset.
Losers.
Bea Arthur and company move over and make way for the new golden harpies
I guess women’s lives are so boring that they have to cling onto a stupid show of nothing but ugly bitches talking about stupid ass topics
To all the men who complained – see the movie or leave us alone. Get a life. Get a girlfriend or whatever. You losers. You have no clue what female friendship is about or what relationships are about. That’s why you are so bitter.
Are you insecure because all the women are smarter than you and richer than you?
I saw the movie and I loved it! The best part is, I saw it with my husband who would secretly pass tissues to me when I cried over touching scenes. Jealous you losers who don’t even have a woman to go and see a movie with?
This show is a gift that keeps on giving to us men. It inspires women, especially single girls, to be sexually liberated. And this is exactly what we want. Keep up the good work!
Reality shows and glorified soap operas. What a pitiful excuse for art nonetheless entertainment. Jackass to Borat to SATC. Art is the window to the soul of a culture. The dark ages are right around the corner folks.
Just saw the movie…LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!
Sex and the city fans will NOT be disappointed!! GO SEE IT NOW!!!!!
Guys, We are so sick of car chases and shootouts.
Give us a break. We loved this film.
This is our fantasy — Bruce Willis is your.
I think men don’t like this movie because women are actually in control here. It’s about women who want to be women instead of women wanting to be what men expect them to be. For all those philistines (men and women alike) out there that can’t accept the fact that there ARE women out there and that it’s OKAY, have fun living in your “traditional” roles. I just watched it and loved it.
I don’t care if this glorifies sex, independent women, or fashion. I don’t even care about designer clothes, handbags or shoes or the fact that I’ll never be like them (nor do I aspire to); it’s just plain fun. I studied film in college and this is not a movie to critique using some conventional criteria.
One more thing, for all of those saying they are ugly, aren’t you all being a little hypocritical in the sense that SATC has been criticized for standardizing the idea of beauty as white, rich, skinny women, but by labeling them “ugly” you’re doing the same thing. Ouch!
DAVE, every single one of these ladies in this movie are in monogamous relationships…watch using the word ‘ho’…you sound like the sexist abusive type. That kind of talk is just sick.
What I loved about the movie was it’s heart. It is surprising touching and actually deep. I do think they should have featured the men more. And I think introducing Carrie’s assistant was a waste of time. But, overall I thought it was wonderful and I plan to see it again.
All the ladies drooling over this movie are probably the same ones who riot when Oprah gives out free stuff. We all know what they look like when that happens (ugg).
Guys know plenty about female friendships and relationships, Jane. Cause we always have to hear about that ONE gal in your circle of friends that you hate and it’s the same one who’s ass you kiss the most when she’s around. These circle of friends also have that fat one (who has the heart of gold) that the insecure, shallow, skinny ones surround themselves around with in order to look good.
We know all the tricks!
Where ever there’s a smart rich woman, there’s a poor stupid bastard whom she drained it all from. She’ll never have to work a day in her life again. All of your chick shows on cable show that and that’s how this lifestyle is learned. This is why women are smarter. They sit around all day learning these techniques. Then they comb the streets looking for the self made man who’s got money.
Which is why females flock to these shows and movies!
Loved it good fun. Flawless? No, but so what!!
It was a fun good movie.
Of course the first two posts are from oblivious dumb ass men…snoooooze.
All I can say to these tootie toot ho’s is “IRON MY SHIRT”!
sex? happens everywhere, not just the city. movie for money, not the women.
For you men (and some women) going off about this movie, get over yourselves. It’s just a freakin movie. I loved the series and I loved the movie! I don’t aspire to live like these women, but it makes for good entertainment. Unlike the series, in the movie, the women are all settled down with one partner, so there are no wild escapades. This makes their lives resemble that of the average woman more. I was worried that the fashions might overshadow the movie too much, but it wasn’t bad. The thing I missed most vs. the series was the humor. This movie has some very funny moments, but is lacking in that area compared with the series. I found the movie a little too serious and sad at times; very touching and real, but I hope any future sequels will try to add more humor.
Those of you cutting down the movie without even seeing it are idiots. Unless you are willing to see it, just keep your mouth shut about the film and instead talk about something you have some knowledge about.
This is awesome! Women flocking together to catch a chick flick glorifying fantastical behavior from women, amping each other up, all while getting ready for me afterwards!~ Ladies, I’ll catch up with you at the bar before or after, may have fun with you in the theater…how long did it take you to get ready to watch the movie?
As a guy I thought Sex And The City was a good TV show at the beginning until they turned it into a trashy soap opera. Candace Bushnell’s original stories had real substance, too bad the produces of the show sold out to appeal to fashion/lifestyle wannabes.
What a bunch of angry people. Just deal with the fact that this franchise is a bunch of crap. Movie, show, all of it. Move on.
ok so the two most common responses in defense of this movie have been
1) “guy” movies suck too
2) it is fun and funny
3) it is realistic
I think that the majority can disagree on number 3 unless you live in la-la land. Number 1 is not an argument. There is a difference between a fun- pointless flick and a flick which perpetuates negative stereotypes and is altogether a total waste of time and artistic expression. The effects are literally mind-numbing. It is fun only to those who are hoping for more in their lives instead of actually facing reality. If you live in the Gucchi-imaginary world though there is nothing anyone can do to show you that this movie is truly worthless. This “film” is so disconnected from the natural world, gender, sex, intellectual comedy that is is just not worth the fuss of discussion.
This is why women shouldn’t be allowed to vote, drive, have money, etc., because they’re too stupid.
I was one of 5 men in sold out theatre of 800 women here in Los Angeles. As a producer, I always sit way in the back to gauge audience reaction…which was palpable…they loved it…and they got it! I felt like I was sitting in a matinee of Iron Man with my two nephews who both had the same giddy, joyous looks of excitement as they sat on the edge of their seats.
So that’s my point. Like it or not, they/we/you all have feelings, and movies bring out all kinds of these emotions good and bad so what’s wrong with that?
If you be aware, I promise that the women in your life (who saw the movie) will exit satisfied, happy, flirty and ultimately wiser from candy-coated morals.
Though extreme, SATC played like a primer on the fairer sex and any guys savvy enough to get it, (like some gentlemen above) will reap the benefits. SATC is a master class for what WE need to do to stay engaged AND present in their lives!
I’m off to tighten my abs and buy my girl some peonies, are they even in season?
i agree with Billy…As a 41yo divorced woman, I only liked the early episodes. Seemed like the the series writers had to accomodate to the our culture vacuum for the desperate non-substance factor. They were genius to figure out this phenomenon. I hope that men don’t think this represents the ALL women. (Those men that do need to grow up.) Though I relate to the fashion aspect, I don’t care for the relationship philosophy these women have.
i like sjp, but the dee snider jokes are funny.
I laughed, I cried. If you didn’t like it you just don’t ‘get it’ I will go again and I want the video. It’s an great salute to women and our friendships. Families should be so lucky to have this devotion.
Can’t WAIT for the sequel.
Shallow, crass, extremely gay, pornographic American crap for shallow, stupid, empty, ugly women.
Goes to show – woman are bigger whores than the men they have been accusing the same of for the last 30 years.
Love it! nothing like a bit of light of the female true physcic – deep down you are sluts !
I have a great wife.
Friday, I didn’t feel like going out so I sent my wife down to the video store to grab a couple DVDs. She brought home a show for the kids and the one for us adults… Yup, you guessed it, “Rambo”.
While the rest of you husbands were getting educated on the latest fasions in dresses I was observing the differences between the latest 50 cal BMG Barrett semi-auto shoulder fired vs the classic circia 1965 pintle mounted full-auto.
While you were catching up on what was going on in suburban USA I was learining more about the atrocities committed in Myanmar and why the military dictatorship of that country is afraid to allow anyone, including aid workers, into their country after the receint cyclone.
Great wife. Great movie. Great weekend. Can’t WAIT for the sequel.
This type of movie puts people on that wide path to destruction. Its not good to lower oneself to this type of entertainment.
Why do some of you women, when commenting on this movie, think you’re dissing men by saying go see Iron Man, Terminator, Rambo, etc… – I’m a woman and I would take an action movie any day over seeing SATC. Actually, Iron Man was the last movie I saw and I’m waiting for Hulk to come out, can’t wait!
I loved this movie. It empowers women to be who we are, not who we think men want us to be. That’s a great message. And, about the slut thing…..yes, the ladies have a lot of sex, but ya know what…they own it!
I can see that an honest opinion from a married man with several daughters and one who works with actresses constantly in media shows can be really twisted. In fact my sexual orientation or I should say abnility is even questioned and that is funny. Especially to my family who I had to read it to. I have no hang ups about my manhood and can enjoy a chick flick when they are good. I love Lifetime and HallMark on TV and they don’t have to use porn to get audiences. I just feel the movie is not worth it and frankly feel the same about most of the all male super hero stuff. Pure fantasy for both sides and SATC is pure fantasy. I know city life and city women as well as anyone who has written in this section. Sadly, if women feel this is how they get liberated, I mean the freedom they don’t have in their own life then they are to be pitied. No wonder Dr. Phil does so well with so many cases out there, Frankly, if you want real life then turn to Jesus Christ. You will get more out of a good church, not all are good I admit, than you will from any film. So let’s not be nasty now. This whole thread has gotten pretty silly from both sides and I don’t intend to look at it again. I at least feel comfortable in my straight life and thank God I never had to be around the women like those in this film. I won’t call them the nasty names some have, however you are known by the company you keep and if this is what you want for company and your daughters to emulate, then I certainly pray for you, By the way, the ratings and the attendance has been slipping and in a few weeks this film may not even be in the top ten. If it is, well that says a lot about us as a nation doesn’t it. I am not surprised a sequal is filled. Horror movies get that break all the time if they draw enough of an audience. Hollywood afterall is about making money.
I don’t understand the women who say they don’t understand the men who don’t “get it.” It’s simple. Most men don’t enjoy stories about slutty women who pretend they are in the mainstream. Do you gals *really* fantasize that you are like those women portrayed in the show and movie?
I haven’t seen the movie, but if it is anything like the series I suspect it is just a more graphic version of the same formula. Without exception, every episode was just a vehicle for one or more of the characters to utter a few choice crude slang words in the context of female bonding over their latest sexual exploits or fantasies. Yes, the proper word to describe women who hop in and out of bed with the latest men they meet is “slutty.” And then to chat about those intimate encounters over lunch as if they were discussing the weather is just absurd. That’s why men avoid this drivel like the plague.
Be honest, if this movie was about a bunch of guys out on the town seeking conquest after conquest and then bragging to each other the next day, you would properly call it pornographic and exploitive.
Come on, ladies, do you really have such low self-esteem that you actually find such trash to be entertaining? Why not concentrate on being real women, and you will likely find real men who appreciate you for what you’re worth.
Great, American women are slave to the giant Marketing Machine. A series that was second evil to Will & Grace for moral decline in our society hits the big screen setting women up for more unrealistic ambtions of what everyday life is “supposed” to be like. Its funny how sin sells and faith does not, when in the end we all know where sin gets us. Its like we can’t wait to get to hell!
I see that most of the negative and nasty comments are from men. Grow up and get a life. These women don’t do anything men don’t do…. GET REAL! And these women ARE real, and real women DO relate to them… that’s why it’s so successful. Yes, we do like seeing the fashion and we love their shoes. I guess if the roles were reversed and it were about macho men who love their cars it would be a hit with you. It takes a confident man who’s comfortable in his skin to be not offended by the fact that women are not like June Clever anymore. We love these women! For you guys that think it’s crap…. go watch your “Manswers” on Spike TV and get out of our sight.
I’ve read the comments on this page. Hum, two thoughts come to mind, first this is obviously a movie that glorifies average 40 something middle aged cougars, who dream of life in the fast lane. Okay, why not.
Next, this film is an obvious success with this demographic, and it is a narrow demographic. Female friendships and lust, why not.
Finally, I won’t watch this film, it’s entirely for another audience. Go for it 40 something middle aged women, it sounds tailored to your interests and fantasies, Americans love escape films!
To the men who don’t care for the movie:
Its JUST a movie.
Just like any other. Some of it is not realistic just like some action-packed movies.
Its not a documentary. Its JUST a movie.
People go for entertainment.
I didn’t originally like the series and I did think the women made poor personal choices & the realistic consequences weren’t protrayed as they should. Then I “got it.”
Pay attention Neanderthals……………………the girls say & do things some of us wouldn’t come out and REALLY say & do. Its funny. Its a MOVIE & TV show.
We MAY have said and done some of these things and that’s funny too because we know we aren’t the only ones now.
Reality is sad or boring.
That’s why some of these men are even commenting here. They are sad or boring.
Ladies, this is just another way to weed out the undesirable, angry men and recognize the fun, confident, well-rounded ones who are worth our time.
Wow, men are truly terrified by women who embrace their sexuality. Crazy.
Finally, a film that didn’t have one or more men urinating or someone throwing up….of course, there was Charlotte’s problem but we only had to hear about it, not see it. I think it’s interesting that so many men make fun of this film yet they were the first to run and see 300! The battle of the sexes will never end.
Another observation from all the comments here:
First of all, macho “guy” movies are equally dumb and unrealistic, and men who think they portray reality have some screws loose.
But from most of the women’s comments here, you’d think that to say the same thing about this piece of trash movie is an attack on their femininity from neanderthals who are insecure in their own sexuality. That’s also nonsense. Trash is trash, whether it comes wearing a dress or a pair of pants.
Are you ladies trying to tell us that in your secret moments of girl bonding, you cuss like sailors while you share the most graphic details about your sex lives between jokes about pooping your pants? Or if you don’t actually do this, that you secretly want to be like this? Is this what you truly think womanhood and female sexuality is all about?
It’s no wonder society is such a mess. Women are designed by nature to be nurturers and act as a moderators. Nothing good results when women abandon this and seek to be as crude as men can sometimes be.
A woman who is truly comfortable with her sexuality will attract a man who is equally secure in himself, and they will be so busy satisfying each others’ needs that there will be no time for the kind of macho-feminine girl bonding glorified by that series and in an even more graphically crude way in the movie.
You say “it’s only a movie,” but from the passionate responses here it’s obvious that many women actually believe it to be reality. Face it, ladies, that show merely glamorizes four women who may be successful in their careers, but they are losers in life. Why any woman would want to look at them as role models is beyond me.
