2ND UPDATE: I understand that no Hollywood bigwig will bother to lodge a protest with Viacom over the South Park episode. "We don't want to engage. We just want it to go away," an insider just told me. The Wednesday night episode, which was the show's fall season premiere, was seen by an average of 3.7 million viewers, up 21% from last fall's debut and topping all of cable during its time period. It stands as the show's most-watched fall premiere since 1999.
UPDATE: I've learned Paramount's top execs missed last night's South Park episode viciously spoofing Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for "raping" Indiana Jones in the studio's summer fourquel. No, I mean really recreating those rape scenes from Clockwork Orange, The Accused and Deliverance and scattering them throughout as the "B" story in "The China Probrem" episode about the racist "horror" of the post-Olympics Chinese taking over the world. My info is that Paramount will look into this on Friday with parent company Viacom which produces the savage adult toon.
I learned about the episode, watched it online, and thought OH MY GOD.
Remember how Tom Cruise was upset with Viacom for South Park's airing of the infamous "Trapped in the Closet" episode? I can't begin to imagine what Brad Grey and Rob Moore, and Spielberg and Lucas, will say to Viacom. After all, the DVD of Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull comes out in just days. And Paramount confirmed to me this week that an Indiana Jones 5 is a very, very real possibility and Lucas has already begun development on it.

speaking truth to power used to be noble not controversial.
Props to South Park for saying what needed to be said re; National Treasure 3, I mean Indy 4.
Hopefully this will permeate the thinking of both Lucas and Spielberg as they try to apologize with Indy 5.
You say that like racism isn’t funny?
long live South Park.
Indy Jones 4 was awful. The whole movie was instantly ruined by that annoying “cute” gopher in the beginning of the film.
GOOD RIDDANCE TO GEORGE LUCAS
I’m sorry but that still just gives me the creeps.
And Parker and Stone hate Indy 4… what else is new? People have been disappointed with the film since it came out late May… couldn’t they have done this in early June when the film was in theaters?
I haven’t even seen it yet and but am yearning for it now that you’ve informed me.
We are way past the time for taking down dinosaurs who have gone past their relevance.
If only there were youngsters able to take their place, but is the vacuum in the meantime any excuse for the mediocrity?
I gotta give props to the South Park crew for laying it out there like this. First of all, it was fucking hilarious…
It’s the kind of stuff most fanboys dream of saying to Lucas and Spielberg, but mostly Lucas who is a bloated dictator who has lost his fastball and his mind.
They may claim victory since Indy 4 made money, but they could have had the movie take place in a nursing home and made money with that brand.
The true lasting impression to most fans is that Indy 4 was terrible and not even close to any of the originals in writing — something Lucas lorded over with a steel hand treating writers like bitches.
He should stop making movies and just enjoy all our money he already has and give these properties to a new generation who actually have respect for the original creations.
If he doesn’t want anyone else to touch them, then let them be…but the days of Lucas/Spielberg meaning not only pure entertainment, bur excellence in all phases of film are done.
I’ll always have faith in Spielberg alone.
But Lucas has turned himself into exactly what he and Coppola were fighting against back in the 70’s and it’s sad.
He’s the heavy handed studio exec that doesn’t listen to good ideas. He’s become the Emperor. We just need Vader to pick him up and throw him down a shaft.
I thought I was the only one who thought Indy 4 was horrible. Most of the reviews were good, but the movie was so ridiculous I couldn’t enjoy it. Lets hope that Indy 5 has better writing, couldn’t be much worse.
(Trey & Matt, brilliant…)
I don’t think Par will come back at CC publicly, so don’t expect any fireworks. Viacom has bigger issues on wall street at the moment, I’m sure.
I’m always thankful to see that South Park’s creators have chosen to use the creative freedom financial success has brought them to deliver perspectives on a variety of topics. As funny as I find their political and social commentary, I love their struggles with pop culture just as much.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favorite film ever. I loved this episode.
Um, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? Did I just see Steven Spielberg rape Indy? I don’t know what was more jarring, the rape or the fact that they cut to a commercial right in the middle of it.
I didn’t see Indy 4 because…what was the point? Spielberg and Lucas are fat and rich and old and happy and they are just diddling with us now.
I’d rather just surf the web. Did I hear that Indy 5 is going to be about the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT? (and Nazis and stuff)Maybe they can get Tyler Perry to direct.
I nearly died laughing seeing Lucas’ pert buttocks pounding Indy on, of all things, a Howard the Duck pinball machine. But those directors had this coming. Big time.
Also, incredibly racist? Have you ever seen a South Park episode before? Are you suggesting that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are against Chinese people? They were making fun of the absurd anti-Chinese sentiments some people had when the Olympics were on, plus the general idiocy of middle America.
What do you mean, “look into this?”
“Gerald, do we produce ‘South Park’?”
“Why yes, Eugene. We do.”
“Well then, we need to LOOK INTO THIS.”
“Why?”
“Because, we might have, um, crossed a line.”
“The racist line, or the don’t-upset-Spielberg-and-Lucas line?”
“Both.”
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Nikki,
I don’t know how other Chinese-Americans feel about this episode, but I am not offended at all. Please don’t patronize me, Nikki. You’re a great reporter, but you don’t have to go all P.C. I’m smart enough to parse out genuine racism from satire. If you were a regular viewer of South Park, you’d know that Erik Cartman is xenophobic. racist, and anti-semitic. So what? He’s a pathetic little loser in the show.
I hereby release you from your obligation to become offended on my behalf.

You mean Trey & Matt, right?
I never, ever want to see George Lucas’ O-face ever again.
@ GimmeABreak
You’re hired.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone never cease to amaze me. Hacks like Matt Groening and Seth MacFarlane are overpraised for mediocrity, but the South Park writing team continue to be some of the best scribes in the business.
Indiana Jones wasn’t the only one who got screwed by Spielberg and Lucas. So did the fans.
We didn’t wait 19 years for a lame hybrid of NATIONAL TREASURE and IT’S A MAD MAD MAD WORLD with some X-FILES thrown in.
It was just awful: The direction, the editing, the cinematography, the music, the script, the special effects, it was like everyone, from Spielberg to Michael Kahn to John Williams to Kaminski to ILM etc was on ‘Auto Pilot Kool Aid’ mode.
The laziest, worst Spielberg flick ever, from the title sequence to the sets to the lack of location shooting to the transition scenes to the talky exposition to the lame supporting performances and action.
It made the ‘Kick The Can’ episode of TWILIGHT ZONE THE MOVIE and the 1941 flick look like BATTLESHIP POTEMPKIN.
Can Spielberg direct escapist films anymore?
It was just awful.
I am a huge fan of South Park and I think this episode was no different in making a commentary on something that is controversial or that Matt and Trey (along with many, many other) obect to. Was actually showing rape scenes over the top? Maybe. I think that out of context, in a different show, yes. But, this is what South Park does and they are great at it.
As far as the Chinese stuff, I had no problem with it. It was not making fun of Chinese, but, as someone else stated, was commenting on the absurdity of American views. I find South Park to be unbelievable at creating metaphors for all that ails society. War, AIDS, handicapped, etc. People in this country take things to seriously. You have to be able to laugh at our problems.
It was one of the most inappropriate and disturbing things I have ever seen on TV.
Funny? No.
I love the fact, that whenever South Park rips and makes fun of some people, not a word is mentioned, but when they rip some of the sacred cows in Hollywood, then “they’ve gone too far.” This is exactly like the whole Mohammed(sp?) cartoon episode-no one said anything about the very offensive thing about Jesus at the end, but goodness, make fun of Islam-can’t do that. Say what you will about SP, they are equal opportunity satirists.
Lucas has ruined everything he has touched lately
South Park just said what most were too afraid or too enamored with to say…Indy4 sucked badly. It damaged the legacy of the original trilogy. It came across as a sort of one-up against Lucas to see who could ruin their franchises to most.
I thought it was classic South Park. Take offense once, take offense all or just don’t watch! You can’t have it both ways. I thought it was hysterical, but not enough to watch the encore last night.
South Park is still on the air? Yeesh.
Show hasn’t been funny since 1999. Seeing this clip confirms it.
“speaking truth to power used to be noble not controversial.”
Agree completely. South Park is one of the only shows left to express itself without bowing down to censors, political correctness, and the humorless. In our crusade to not offend, our comedy has become a shadow of itself.
South Park is an equal opportunity offender!
South Park rips on everyone equally all the time. While at times personally offensive, that is inevitable since, as mentioned, it rips on everyone.
There was a time when my two favorite shows were the West Wing (before it became a liberal preach fest) on Weds. at 9pm, which went right into south park.
Despite my wife wondering how a 40 year old guy could love both shows, I thought they were equally thought provoking, simply using different mediums. Call it the duality of man.
Besides Speilberg is an aging liberal hippie douche.
Sometimes satire is the only way to tell the Emperor he has no clothes.
I have to admit I felt dirty after watching Indiana Jones 4. I mean, Shia LeBouf FLYING THROUGH THE TREE WITH MONKEYS!!!
Some people need to learn when to walk away. Kill Bill and Kill Bill 2. Perfect. No need to ruin it with a third movie or drag it out.
Watching South Park is making me relive losing $10.50 on a ticket and $4.00 for a soda. I feel SO DIRTY again!!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if the parent company lowered the boom. It wouldn’t be the first time. I remember when South Parks creators were forced to censor the airing of the Danish created Mohammad cartoons.
As much as I love South Park for what I think is a dark, wicked sense of an animated editorial cartoon (when there is a social or political overtone in the show), they definitely have their hands tied on matters like this.
Thanks for the story. It made me forget for a few moments that half of my retirement account has been stolen from me and I’ll be a WalMart greeter when I’m 65. Who cares what South Park does? They are the funniest thing on TV. Making a controversy out of a South Park episode is like making a controversy out of something Letterman says. Thanks for the momentary distraction from all the stuff that really matters.
Speaking truth to power is only acceptable when it is aimed at Republicans and conservatives. And, seeing how the Parker and Stone have Libertarian leanings, this is not good (wringing hands). Get with the program.
Hey Finke, have you ever watched an episode of South Park? I think not. A great episode. SP is the only show on television that isn’t shackled by political correctness- the only thing thats sacred to Parker & Stone is the freedom to attack anything they like. THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION!!Keep up the good work!
The originals were so good? Come on.. I mean “Temple of Doom”? Gimme a break. These movies really are aimed more towards kids just like the Star Wars movies are. People did not like the new issues of those either. We are not kids anymore and need to look at these movies through the eyes of a 9yr old. 20 years from now those same 9yr olds will be complaining about the new Indy10 and how horrible is was compared to the awesome Crystal Skull movie of their youth.
And for Southpark, that’s what they do make fun of stuff and celebs. Everyone understands that.
This episode was not racist at all. Parker and Stone always go after the race issues in the country this way. What Cartman and Butters did was nothing compared to the 3 brutal rape scenes which I thought was unreal. Indy 4 was beyond awful and deserved to be ripped to shreds. I did think the 2 of the rape scenes went way too far, the show was basically an NC-17 not a TV-MA.
The episode wasn’t racist, idiot. It mocked a CHARACTER who was racist. Cartman is always depicted as an ignorant, racist jerk. The real Asian people in the episode were not depicted in any racist way. Whoever write this article is a fucking irony challenged moron.
I agree with Matt C. The episode just wasn’t funny. It was totally untimely. Who cares about some movie that came out last spring? Especially when there’s so much more to talk about/satire? It was offensive because it was just totally irrelevant. Anonymous – the first poster – almost gets it right, but frankly, there are a lot more dangerous sources of “power” to whom we should be speaking the truth.
Keep up the good work, Trey and Matt. Spielberg and Lucas deserve it. And if they can’t take the satire, then they have some growing up to do.
I’m with Butters: I didn’t think the movie was that bad at all!
And comparing it to rape, well that might just be the worst thing a TV show could do… except this is South Park we’re talkinga bout.
Seriously though, I’m pretty god-damned sure that being raped is a lot more traumatizing than seeing an Indiana Jones movie you disapprove of. SP loves to point fingers at over-reacting douche bags, well Matt & Trey, you’re the douche bags this time.
incredibly racist?
savage adult toon?
Ok, first of all: Before anyone calls the episode RACIST, why don’t you see it first. If you did watch it and saw racism then you missed the entire point, which was that its immature to worry about the rise of China… and anyone who thinks that way is probably a racist moron. I know you’ve all been brain washed by political correctness to scream racism whenever you see anything that makes you slightly uncomfortable, but I urge you to start thinking for yourself. You can start with this question: What were the creators of South Park REALLY trying to say?
As per the second plot of the episode: THANK GOD we have South Park to tell it like it is. The fact that THIS episode is being viewed as having ‘crossed the line’ is hillarious given the history of the show (which inclded a three part special trying to show an image of the prophet Mohammad). So what was so outrageous this time? Oh, that’s right, they made two washed up rich hollywood fatcats feel bad about how they BUTCHERED a series we all loved…
Speilberg and Lucas like free speech until it is used against them. Or unless it “hits” to close to home. It was a funny episode.
someone please please please force those douche bags stop making movies. I hope so baddly that they were forced to watch this episode… in the end when the cops break down the door and they’re raping a storm trooper…. CLASSIC.
Spielberg and Lucas raped my favorite childhood films. they should see 10 to 20 hard labor in pound you in the ass federal prison. the punishment must fit the crime.
Geez, I actually like Indy 4…
Racist? Where the hell did THAT come from? The episode was decidedly ANTI-racist. Calling it racist is much like calling Huckleberry Finn racist; it means you JUST DON’T GET IT.
“Also, incredibly racist? Have you ever seen a South Park episode before? Are you suggesting that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are against Chinese people? They were making fun of the absurd anti-Chinese sentiments some people had when the Olympics were on, plus the general idiocy of middle America.”
Sometimes satire flys over the head of those not as quick-witted as the satirist(s).
I thought cliche, cliche, cliche through the whole Indy 4. Wheres the quick sand scene? Okay here it is. Where’s the big snake scene? Okay there it is. I blame Lucas for the no-brainer plot development. The crystal skull looked completely fake because it had no weight to it. There was no chemistry between Indy and his old flame.
I did like the magnets Indy used in the beginning and the library chase scene.
To be fair, Parker and Stone did leave the episode with Butters saying he thought the movie was good. I believe he said it earlier, too. Parker and Stone were also lampooning the people who were so upset with the film – so both sides got it. What’s worse – people worshipping a film or a producers worshipping the almighty $$$?? (I liked the film, but it could have been tighter. The gopher was not nearly as irritating as the little robot in Transformers or the gecko in the island movie. Criminy!)
Matthew G, you should said the general idiocy of people period. Left, middle, right…idiots abound of all political stripes, ethnic groups, nationalities, etc. It’s what binds us humans–our amazing ability to be irrational, illogical, and downright goofy.
The dangers of beliefs are manifest.
Call me naive, but I missed the “racist” part of last night’s episode. Could you possibly mean Cartman and Butters pretending to be Chinese?? For god’s sake man, grow/buy/steal a sense of humor. I bet you found the “Cartman turns into a ginger” episode equally troubling!
(hint– Cartman’s character is intended as a MOCKERY of ignorant xenophobia. If we can’t make fun of ignorant white people, well, who can we make fun of? It’s the end of comedy, I tell ya!!)
south park is one of the last rare bastions of creativity and independent though in modern media, besides also being horribly offensive and funny. I will continue to watch it, and all anyone can do by complaining is to make it even more popular.
Hell yeah. Racism is the bom!
Matt and Trey will eventually be shown as the greatest social commentators of this generation. This is no exageration. They do not play favorites, they do not pull punches and they do not play the PC game. Sometimes they may not be as timely as they should, and this is a prime example; however, their work is brilliant. It’s a shame more people do not appreciate their work; however, this has been true for generations of commentators/artists and most of it is due to the medium in which they work.
Oh please..RACIST? Is this what passes for education in California? Racisim is the belief that one race is specifically BETTER than another.
Bigoted? Please what did South Park show that was out of line of ANYTHING else they have ever done? It did not once show the Chinese in a bad light. Okay it did show a fat obnoxious, power posessed kid (Eric) to be an idiot….but got news for you twits HE IS AN IDIOT. He was DESIGNED to be A BIGOTED (actually Racist) Joke.
If you cannot take it here is a thing you can do…TURN THE FREAKING CHANNEL
It’s satire….and quite funny!
Ah, sweet and delicious truth. How I love thee.
Parody is a protected form of free speech in this country. Just because the wealthy and powerful don’t like it when somebody points out something true about them doesn’t mean there’s any reason to squelch differing opinions. Lucas and Spielberg have churned out crap for quite a while now. Thank God those LOTR movies came out around the same time as the new Star Wars movies because they helped take the edge off of the garbage that Lucas had created. And Indy 4 was a joke, I don’t really know anyone who said that was a good movie, almost everyone said they felt bad for Harrison Ford. So in a way, if the shoe fits, wear it Lucas.
I loved the episode and thought it was hysterical (lets face it Lucas has been doing this since the SW prequels, bout time he was called on it). As for the racism, yes quite often Cartman is racist, but anyone who follows the show knows it to point out his ignorance.
People are saying “Good Riddance to Lucas??!” For God’s sake, “Raiders” was the best of the series, the one most lacking in that patented Schpielberg schmaltz, and Raiders was the one Lucas had the most control over, re-editing it, shooting second unit — not to mention creating the story and the character, which has been raped from Temple of Doom on.
I was gonna write a reply but “Shia LaSuck” basically said it all.
I am still laughing! My gut hurts!
Let’s face it, this is not the worst rape scene we’ve seen on South Park. Woodland Critter Christmas was much more disturbing.
Having said that, this episode was amazing. I loved every minute of it and thought it was a great way to kick off the remainder of the season.
My only regret was that they couldn’t air it at the time Indy 4 was in theaters. But since that’s Comedy Central’s scheduling there’s nothing that could be done about it.
Racist ? What what what? I thought it was pretty damn funny. Everybody needs to lighten up a bit. Give me a break. Find something worth while to bitch about.
“Most of the reviews were good.”
Most of the reviewers are hack whose only purpose in life is to inflate dead ducks so that they fart long enough to give the illusion of life.
The episode was not just about Indy 4. It was a larger metaphor for what is going on in America. We have lost our edge. We are now a bunch of veal calves and our days our numbered.
I saw it. There was nothing racist about it. Good for SouthPark for going after the Hollywood untouchables. Personally, I’m tired of these big-wigs. SouthPark needs to tackle Stone next. Screw Hollywood and screw those elite film makers.
cry cry cry they need to get over themselves
south park is funny
they are has beens
Racist? I guess I can see how they’d come to that conclusion if they don’t often watch (and know) South Park. Those guys aren’t racist! Some of their CHARACTERS are, however. There’s a difference. A big one.
I agree with most of the above commentary. Anyone who thinks South Park is racist is a moron. Only idiots don’t understand satire. And yes, middle America is retarded as a collective. I saw Indy 4 and wanted to walk out, but I just kept thinking it would get better. Props to Matt and Trey for exposing Speilberg and Lucas for the greedy bastards they are.
And let’s not forget that this is not the first time South Park has attacked Speilberg and Lucas for ruining old films.
I’m Chinese and I thought it was hilarious! And the Spielberg and Lucas bits were long over due!
Hey, besides exposing the awful truth about Lucas and Spielberg, that episode reminded everyone of an important truth. And that is this: You do not shoot a guy in the dick. That’s just weak.
The 11th Commandment:
Thou shall not speaketh ill of the hollywood elite, unless they are conservative.
Once again SouthPark practices and tests Free Speech. They always do it and I applaud them. One of the other great tests was when they took on the fanatics of Islam. When these intolerant people were attacking the appeasers in Europe for showing pictures of their “prophet,” the South Park crew tested them here. Of course Comedy Central, like CNN, refused to air the pictures. Free Speech is a key foundation of our country.
How is the South Park episode racist? Because the little fat kid Cartman has a phobia about Chinese invading after watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics?
Its called satire you dolts, they were illustrating with a cartoon how ridiculous paranoia and xenophobia look to people of a rational mindset. But just call it racist and shout down anyone who disagrees with you, you illiterate buffoons.
I actually liked Indy IV personally. I liked it quite a bit. Still though, I thought the Southpark episode was very funny as well. The primadonnas at Paramount learn to get a sense of humor already.
Indy 4 sucked, Starblows ep 1,2,3 sucked, south park rocks. I don’t consider them racist, they pick on EVERYBODY no matter what your color or religion. If you don’t like them, don’t watch them. Go watch the disney channel if it hurts your brain to think and laugh at everyone and everything.
Um, have you SEEN the new Indiana Jones movie?!?
I think the episode was as brilliant as ever and right on par with SP’s last few seasons of excellence. Using two of the most famous rape scenes to illustrate the raping of the IJ franchise was damn near genius. People always want to discredit Matt and Trey for the show, but they always manage to get a real point across, make a statement that most of us are thinking but are unable to express and make us laugh our asses off all in a 30 minute expanse of time. How many other shows, ones that are twice as long even, can do that? Every week. Consistently.
Parker and Stone are the real deal and if you haven’t figured that out by now, then you might as well go vote for mccain and palin and then move in to that bomb shelter you’ve been stocking up.
Simply evidence that there are a lot of really, truly disturbed people watching this show.
Happily, I’m not one of them.
I have to disagree with your “incredibly racist” comment. South Park continues to deal with race in a very intelligent way, mixing humor with criticism of those who hold racist views. You may have been personally offended, but that’s ok. South Park is offensive, but you’d be hard pressed to argue it’s racist with any validity.
aren’t you sick and tired of the liberals telling you what is appropriate to say, think and believe? all of us have a god given right to be free in our thoughts.
Lucas and Spielberg should be honored that South Park portrayed them as fat old hacks who at least can still get it up.
I mean come on, we all knew they gave up on making quality films, sacrificing dialog and content in exchange for “special effects” and amazing sound design.
Just like comedians who leave the stage to go start a family and then come back and all their new material is horrible. Lucas and Spielberg have done the same.
Hang up the Towel, and let towlie take over, i.e. start smoking weed and stop being productive.
I’m not a south park fan, but I thought this episode was dead on about Indy4. They really did rape the franchise. Good job south park! As far as racist, why do you wanna pllay that race card? They were showcasing a childs point of view of the world. They weren’t encouraging people to go out and shoot Chinese people in the dick…..
South Park has been and always will be a check on the egos of Washington and Hollywood alike. (And, anyone else who they see fit…)
Savage adult toon? You are mistaken. The savage ManBearPig was brought to us by Al Gore, and resurected later in the Imaginationland Trilogy.
Satire is one of the great equalizers of society… And, quite frankly is hillarious. No one is safe.
As for Lucas, he sold his soul long ago with the likes of Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks. And let us not forget the blasphemy of the re-edit of Episode 4…. HAN SOLO SHOT FIRST!
Maybe they should do a sequel to this episode where Mr Hat comes back and takes revenge on Lucas and Spielberg… now THAT would be funny.
Hel-LO!! Who cares? We have a nation with major problems and this is what enthralls us? A cartoon? Gee, bring on the bread & circuses…
Oh my goodness! I can’t believe what I’m reading. South Park was irreverent and politcally incorrect? What’s this world coming to?
What’s next, spoofing on Barry Obama? They’d better watch their step if they do. The cries of racism will be louder and more fierce. Barry might even send his Truth Squad after them. Oh, no, there going to be mean to me!!!
Hey, it’s a CARTOON. And a spoof on previous movie rape scenes. And Indy 4 DID suck donkeys. And it’s SOUTH PARK, for crying out loud.
Thanks, Matthew G. for pointing out the Howard the Duck pinball machine. I missed that. Wow.
I actually thought Indy 4 was very entertaining. As for the South Park episode…didn’t see it, but it does seem to be “saying” something…and since Lucas and Spielberg are both big crybaby liberals, you can bet there will be some trouble or a ban or something.
I thought it was great!
Get over yourselves…
I don’t know what there is to look into or why anyone cares. Freedom of speech. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are free to make as many versions of their movies as they wish and Trey Parker and Matt Stone are free to make fun of them when they suck.
Also, I wonder what Matthew G. means by “the general idiocy of middle America?” It’s probably another empty stab at working middle class Americans; apparently if you don’t give a rat’s ass about what opinions are “fashionable” or politically “hip” then you are an idiot.
The real idiots are those who went to see the movie and then, after complaining that it sucked, asked why Lucas and Spielberg keep making movies.
That’s my boys!!
Keep’em puking Matt & Trey!!!!
Indiana Jones and the temple of Roswell Aliens crystal monkey skulls part 4 1/3 or whatever the hell it was called was the worst movie I saw all summer. After kate Blanchett and Shia Lebouf had the sword fight in the two moving cars I got up and left……I applaud Southpark for ONCE AGAIN calling a spade a spade.
South Park is an equal opportunity offender. They make fun of EVERYONE. It would be completely hypocritical of Paramount to basically come out and say, “you can make fun of everyone else out there…but not Paramount films or directors who work for us.”
Congrats, Trey and Matt, for speaking the truth, and doing it in your own usual hilarious way.
** p.s. You forgot the first rape scene, which I’m pretty sure was recreating Boys Don’t Cry.
What happens in the cartoon is not far off from the real thing. Raiders of the Lost Ark was a timeless classic. The current incarnation of the franchise lacks the magic of the original. Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Maltese Falcon, Casablanca and Sunset Boulevard are ripe for sequels. After all, haven’t all the Psycho and Star Wars sequels been wonderful?
Racist? Do you not watch the show closely enough or has politically correctness neutered you? To address subjects of race is not racism or racist.
It seems each year some pundit/blogger decides to attack South Park, but they miss the mark completely.
If you were to be offended, it should result from seeing so many men shot in the nuts.
I saw it and yes it was typical crude South Park. That’s what South Park is: satire. If you can’t take it, then turn it off.
My only problem is that they only do about 2 months of live stuff a year. And, with an election, a war, and a financial melt-down; the only thing they could find to hit was Spielberg and Lucas!!!!
Lame, just plain Lame.
It shows that they have lost their touch and can’t stay up with the news of the day. That’s what made them famous, being topical. Spielberg and Lucas maybe topical to them, but not to the rest of America.
So do better, or give it up, and go spend your big bucks punking yourselves.
Then probably some other guys will make a cartoon about you! That would be fitting!
South Park rocks!
Roll Tide!!
Oh come on.
It was better than Indy 4.
Oh, how DARE Trey Parker and Matt Stone mock Spielberg and company! Everyone knows Steven Spielberg is a Right-Thinking Person, and is completely off-limits! It’s only George Bush, Christians, Southerners and heterosexuals who can be mocked and degraded. So why couldn’t South Park go after them?….(Huh? What? They already did? A bunch? Are you sure about that? I see.)…*ahem* Never mind.
Long live Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
The suggestion that they are racist is beyond absurd. Their long record clearly shows that NOBODY is safe from their ridicule, regardless of race, gender, religion or creed. This is not racism, as it is dished out in an even handed manner, across the full spectrum of humanity.
It’s just good fun, coupled with razor sharp insight.
GL is hated by the fanboys since Jar Jar Binks; Spielberg since he CGI’d out the shotguns with walkie-talkies.
This is nothing new, they’re both grown men, they should deal with it, and if it does upset them spend a few hours counting the hundreds of millions of dollars they’ve made — it’s not a rape, they were pimping Indy.
Good Job Trey and Matt!! Well done my sirs!!
Lucas RUINED and I mean RUINED Indiana Jones!! This guy should not be allowed to do it ever again! He’s take on what movies should be… well, suck. Enough of that CGI nonsense… it looks like crap and I’m glad he’s being called out for it.
Everyone agrees with South Park – they RAPED INDY!!
Has there ever been a South Park episode that didn’t cross the line?
The whole concept for the show is that is crosses all lines without discrimination. That is what makes the show so freaking funny!
Cartman for president!
Indy 4 was a lot of fun and no more ridiculous than any of the other entries in the franchise. That doesn’t change the fact that what Parker and Stone did on South Park was fucking hilarious and completely ballsy. They are the best comedians out there at the moment. What an amazing episode.
Parker and Stone have consistently baffled idiots on all sides of the political/politically correct spectrum—right, left and everywhere in between—none of whom have the slightest inkling that the best satire is not only nonpartisan but brutal and unfailingly honest.
The South Park creators are, pretty much, the only remaining true American satirists in this woefully blue-nosed country. They should be held up as the standard for excellence in exposing naked emperors. The fools who sputter outrage at their humor give them the highest praise a satirist can ever receive—they behave in the exact manner they are depicted in the satire, making them even funnier in the process.
So please, Nikki, go ahead and call their work “racist” or “sexist” or “insensitive” or use the term “hated on” in your headline instead of “lampooned” (which would be the truthful description). Those of us who still understand true satire will just point at you and laugh even harder.
South Park is the most hilarious show on television. And these bums that keep putting out these piece of s#$t movies need a chin check every once and a while.
When I watched the episode I jumped from my seat cheering!! Aliens?!?!? in Indiana Jones…Matt and Trey couldn’t have expressed my exact feelings more for Indy 4 any more perfectly.
Remember South Park did an episode in season 6, “Free Hat” when the kids tried to rescue the original print of Raiders of the Lost Ark so Spielberg and Lucas couldn’t ruin it by ‘enhancing’ it. This was 6 years ago, it’s not the first time Matt and Trey gave Spielberg and Lucas a punch in the face.
Indiana Jones 4 was horrible. Good for South Park.
EXCUSE ME, BUT WHO ACTUALLY CARES?
Only the mindless with no brain would waste time watching this silly foolishness anyway.
Maybe the value would be to capture the ID of everyone that watches and make sure that NONE of them get to vote in Federal elections.
They like as not like Obamessiah for the same reason they like Cartman…..
Speaking truth to power is still noble. This is power speaking to power. South Park is not funny to me, but I want to recognize their rights to lampoon anyone.
Indy 4 lost me when Indiana climbed into the refrigerator and survived the atomic blast after being blown through the air 10 miles.
That’s lame. At least the first 3 movies had some somewhat realistic scenes.
Matthew says,”plus the general idiocy of middle America”
What could be more elitist and offensive than this stupid statement by Matthew? Middle America doesn’t complain about the “idiocy of coastal America”, or use such ridiculous or overarching generalities. Talk about bigotry and close-mindedness.
So let me get this right – everyone is concerned about Indy getting raped and missed the point about Cartman. For fuck sake, Cartman of all people said at the end of the show – he doesn’t want to give up his morals to stop the Chinese from gaining power. That in and of itself is completely out of character for him. Cartman going soft was the real point of the show. I mean seriously when in the past would Butters behavior stop Cartman from doing whatever he wanted to do?
Maybe Nikki needs someone to watch South Park with her to explain the parts she doesn’t get.
We can only hope that Trey & Parker have the balls to expose this Sarah Palin thing in the same fashion.
Heaven knows, the news media have no balls to take on this community college graduate. We are all doomed if she is ever one heartbeat.
DizzyChick
National Medal of Freedom (of Speech) should go to South Park team. I can’t wait to see their take on Obama, win or lose. And the Tom Cruise, John Travolta Scientology episode was the most courageous thing I have seen from Hollyweird, TV or movies, ever. That took huge BeseketBalls to stand up to those guys from Clearwater, FLA. everybody else is a pussy compared to those two cartoonists.
Oh, how DARE Trey Parker and Matt Stone mock Spielberg and Lucas! Everyone knows Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are Right-Thinking Persons, and completely off-limits! It’s only George Bush, Christians, Southerners and heterosexuals who can be mocked and degraded. So why couldn’t South Park go after them?….(Huh? What? They already did? A bunch? Are you sure about that? I see.)…*ahem* Never mind.
Someone’s a little upset they didn’t make fun of Palin and ripped leftist heroes Spielberg and Lucas for insulting every fan of Indiana Jones.
Racist? Someone needs their sensitivity meter recalibrated. It’s no more racist than any of their other episodes, AND speaks to the fact about how many Americans view the Chinese surge in economic and political clout.
You’re a moron.
It was funny. Sometimes the truth hurts. Indy 4 sucked donkey balls. Han Solo shot first. Lucas needs to stop screwing his legacy if he wants to leave one someday.
They’re going to rape him again? In Indy 5? Say it ain’t so!!!
The episode was quite hilarious. Everyone just needs to relax. Free speech!
I’m Shocked!
And just FULL of sympathy for those poor, poor multi-millionaires! Why, they might be LAUGHED at!
“truth to power”??? Are you nuts?
I love this show and I’m Conservative as they come.
Racist WTH is that about? I saw the mentioned episode and I thought it was one of most funny SP has done. It was right up there with the Al Gore spoof of “ManBearPig”. One thing about SP they will take on any social issue and it doesn’t matter which side of the political fence they lampoon. Maybe our news networks should take notice and report the news in the same manner.
Keep em coming SP this nation needs to have a few laughs these days. Don’t let the whiny spineless elitists have their way.
This episode was not ‘incredibly racist”. Cartman and Butters stereotypes of Chinese people, were meant to be just sterotypes. Showing a Chinese-American family being offended and perplexed by Cartman’s idea of Chinese was meant to lampoon ‘racism’.
dpy
“couldn’t they have done this in early June when the film was in theaters? (by Matt C — October 9, 2008 @ 10:15 pm)”
Yes, they could have – but that potentially would have hurt the boxoffice, and been grounds for complaints of financial loss. Now, all that SpieLuc can do is bounce up and down and whine, “Oooh, tacky!”
Get a life south park is great because it makes fun of all this “incredibly racist episode” crap you fags like to bitch about.
Trey and Matt, f*ck the status quo and keep doing what y’all do!
OK guys, the episode was about how Americans ignore the collapse of their own economy because they are so distracted by movies and entertainment. And Parker/Stone are on the mark AGAIN, because everyone’s ignoring the Asian racism that was so rampant throughout AND was the point of the show. Since my fellow Americans seem to be asleep, WAKE UP–we’ve lost our economy!
But Butters like Indy 4!
I am a parent of 8 and 6 year old children, and this kind of junk television is the reason I pulled the satellite dish down and turned the TV reception off. Go rent a movie Disney and the scholastic videos and be quite entertaining for the whole Family.
My 8 year old son loved Indiana Jones Movie and we rented the old one’s to.
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are Great Movie makers and my kids love their movies.
I feel sorry for those who are addicted to the Television, Life is to short to waste it with eyes glued to the TV.
Savage adult toon? Incredibly Racist?
How about incredibly funny? SP is hilarious and they always get it right on the money.
Don’t watch if you are PC or “sensitive”
Nikki you don’t seem that smart. You seem to be the only one who didn’t think the episode was funny. Who will call these guys out for making these terrible movies. Parker and Stone are incredibly intelligent…this may not have been their finest hour to showcase that, but they did get their point across, right? We’re all talking about it and agreeing now…
South Park making fun of China and Lucas/Spielberg “I’m shocked, shocked.” What the hell is THX anyway?
I think that what’s most remarkable, is that technology has finally made it possible for ANIMATION to be TOPICAL, by enabling an episode to be made in weeks or even days, instead of a year or so, hence enabling current event comments. (South Park’s ‘Passion of the Jew’ came out right after ‘Passion of the Christ’, remember?)
South Park and Family Guy are leading the way in pushing the envelope by saying things that NO OTHER SHOW can, because they aren’t real people. Let’s face it, we have become such a politically correct society, that you can’t make fun of ANYONE anymore………except Amish people if you’re on TV….’cause if they see it, they’re cheating and they really can’t bitch………..so how about a show where Cartman totally mocks the Amish…… but seriously, all the shock and awe that someone would take a shot at 2 Hollywood heavyweights is just going to egg them on, as well as the ratings. It’s still a free country, so go Trey, Matt and Seth!
What’s great about South Park is that they hit everyone unlike sanitized, politically-correct comedies such as The Simpson’s that hold their punches on race but feel free to feature “Cleatus” a middle-American white redneck because that’s the primary racist hate target of the hypocritical left.
This episode also featured “PF Chang’s” which appeared to welcome the publicity because the Matt and Trey regularly eat there and love the food.
Nikki, it’s obvious you’ve never watched South Park before. Go back, start the show again, and note the warning at the beginning that states that the show should not be watched by anyone. Venture past that point at your own risk if you have the slightest bit of politically correct sensibilities. South Park and its writers are willing to provide material offensive to any and every group on an equal-opportunity basis.
Speilberg and Lucas are clownshoes at this point. They haven’t made anything innovative or even relevent in decades. No I didn’t (and won’t) see Indy 4, but I will be certain to tevo this southpark episode next time it is on… Go Matt & Trey!
Well said Shia Lasuck. Indy 4 was needlessly terrible. There was no excuse for that movie to blow so bad considering the talent involved, GL being the exception of course. But the episode makes a genuine valid point about GL’s lack of creativity and Spielberg’s roll with the punches approach that they’ve almost ruined a major franchise. We still have the first three, so the end is not as nigh as we think.
Censorship is ok when it comes from Liberals. From the people that think Al Gore is not a robot and allow him to censor music. South Park rules!
Hehe. “National Treasure 3″. Yes indeed, National Treasure was such an original and unique idea, and was by no means simply a rehash of IJ using fake American history as a backdrop.
SO let me get this straigt:
Southpark makes fun of God = ok
Southpark makes fun of Jesus = ok
Southpark makes fun of Jews = ok
Southpark makes fun of Speilberg = NOT ok
Speilberg must be more important than God, Jesus or Jews
Was brilliant! Indy as The Gimp in Pulp Fiction would have been good.
This is a business. As long as South Park does well in the ratings, it will be fine. BTW Nikki, sucking up in Hollywood only gets you so far.
Comedy Central, yeah, they’ll show a scene where Spielberg rapes Harrison Ford, but don’t show Mohammed at the door!
Matt and Trey ripped on Lucas and Spielberg before. Lucas for inserting the new CG stuff into the original Star Wars trilogy. Spielberg for changing the M16 guns in ET to walkie-talkies.
As a 34 year old, watching their movies with great fandom in my youth, their changing of what was great was in essence, ruining (their take “raping”) the original.
I did find the episode Wednesday was a tiny bit over the top, but as a fan of Spielberg and Lucas’ original works AND South Park, thought that it needed to be said.
Just because they can make movies because they own the brand, they need to be introspective and talk with the fans about what made the originals good, not what they and the studios think would be good.
As for the racist stuff, did EVERYONE miss when Eric Cartman tried to eliminate the Jews, Ginger Kids, Hippies, and whoever else? The character is meant to show that racism DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!
Sadly, the political correctness of these days doesn’t look kindly on satire.
Who knew rape could be so funny!
You gotta hand it to Matt and Trey for spoofing not only the two Way Past Their Prime dinosaurs but throwing in homages to both “The Accused” and “Deliverance.”
Why should M&T give a fuck about offending S&L? They don’t worry about offending anybody else. They have attacked S&L in the past (most specifically in the ‘02 episode “Free Hat”).
Meanwhile, who else should Viacom start censoring to protect the feelings of multi-millionaires directors who make profitable-yet-shitty movies?
A previous comment is exactly right: Lucas has become what he supposedly hates so much — a self-important exercise in Hollywood mediocrity — and Spielberg is just his lackey.
Kudos, Matt and Trey, kudos.
Hope Spielberg and Lucas will just laugh it off and ignore it, instead of following Mr. Crazy’s lead.
If you saw the last 3 Indy movies, rape is a perfect description of what happened to a great product. The overuse of technology ruined this great property. Same for Star Wars.
Just more evidence that Hollywoods’s tolerance is a one way street. It’s great to bash the Jews, Blacks, Mormons, Mexicans, Jehovas Witnesses, Gays, etc; but as soon as you take on someone in Hollywood, it is “too far” and should be supressed. Kudos to South Park for mistreating everyone equally.
Spielberg is a POS. Aside from Schindler, the rest of his movies are pure pop crap. Anyone remember “Always”? Probably one ofo the worst movies EVER. And Lucas ought to stick with his comic books. Isn’t there anyone is Hollywood that can make real movies, as opposed to pablum for 13 year olds?
Spielberg and Lucas deserved it
How is this racist? Is it morally unacceptable to lampoon Spielberg and Lucas, who have been overpraised for decades now and seem genuinely to believe that they are national treasures.
I had no problem with the episode, except for the way they threw the term RAPE around so casually. Funny thing was that the Sarah Silverman did the EXACT SAME THING! I ended up turning it off during Sarah Silverman, mainly because rape humor doesn’t make me laugh. South Park was definitely sub-par, although I did get the references to the economy, and the whole “denial” thing. Just like the episode with Britney Spears having only half a head. They got so wrapped up in their social commentary this week, they forgot the funny… unless you find RAPE funny.
Still a super-hardcore fan of South Park, but wifey & I did not like this episode at all.
And YES, I love offensive humor, when it’s done well.
Another blast of pure sanity from Matt/Trey.
yes, Lucas and Spielberg, those creepy Jungian dream
dads who suck and let everybody down…they’ve been begging for this with their terrible movies.
Especially after the brilliance of Dark Knight.
These two dorks DESTROYED CINEMA, everybody knows
that.
Much love and respect to the shamen of South Park
Todays movies suck anyway. I can’t remember when Hollywood had it’s last original idea any way… Maybe it was South Park. Personaly I am just glad to find out I’m not the only one who thought that Indy 4 was a peice of trash. Last year my wife bought me the Indiana Jones box set and I was dissapointed that it wouldn’t have the new movie in it. Now I am just glad that I have somthing to use to pretend that they didn’t make that crap shot to hell.
They didn’t cross a line when they had Jesus in Bagdad toting an M-16?
Parker and Stone are the best political and social commentators in a generation. I couldn’t stop laughing and cringing.
“Squeal like a pig!”, “Weeeeeeeeeeeee”. Poor Indy.
I will never forget what they did to him. Indiana deserved better.
The Point South Mark was making was that the new Indiana Jones movie was awful! Aliens? Really? And then they made it funny by saying that Lucas and Spielburg rapped Jones. Come one guys. It was funny.
I’m a fan of Lucas, Spielburg, and South Park. This episode did not effect my feelings on any of them. I will remain a fan and a supporter.
LOVE SOUTH PARK!!!
Screw Speilburg and Lucas.
Funny ass episode! lucas and speilberg did rape indiana jones with that shoddy movie!
South Park has never done much for me. I prefer the highbrow comedy of John Stewart and Colbert
. However, it does have it’s audience and frequently challenges free speech which is good.
The raping of Indy was nothing compared to the raping of millions of fans wallets who paid to see this crap. Indy jumped the shark when he survived a atom bomb test in an old refrigerator. Frankly I’m done giving George Lucas my money. His entire Empire is focused on creating a fandom that must but every action figure, statue, and DVD re-release of his franchise.
I’d like Spielberg to get back to making quality films like Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s List.
Hahahahahaha. Do you, Nikki Finke, really believe that anything will change in Hollyidiotland over this? It’s just same-old same-old in the land of na-na, where morons and idiots abound.
The real joke is that noone really cares and also that noone really cares.
I do not remember any outrage when Jesus duked it out with Santa on South Park… Why can’t the liberals that run Hollywood take the heat… a taste of their own medicine?
If you’re surprised at anything on South Park at this point you’ve been blissfully ignorant of the last.. 10 years at least worth of South Park’s standard operating procedure.
I mean really, if you’re somehow thinking that South Park is suddenly racist, then yes in a vacuum where you’ve never seen anything they’ve ever done before it’s racist and the only thing anyone can do for you is tell you that it’s not for you and you just don’t understand comedy.
As for the Lucas/rape/etc part… isn’t it true? I mean at least it’s a metaphor for truth. If somehow making fun of Jesus is not offensive but suggesting that completely fucking up the legacy of a really good movie franchise to caplitalize on people’s desire for nostalgic things they like while turning in something completely shitty isn’t at least metaphorically raping the past, I guess that thinking beyond just what you literally see on the screen is too complicated and you really shouldn’t watch South Park. It takes a bit of intelligence to watch it. Yes, it’s a cartoon. No, it’s not for kids, no it’s not for morons. Go watch some Bugs Bunny if all you want to see is easy to understand simpleton humor. South Park at least makes an effort to go slightly beyond what most people would be comfortable with and they get away with it because of cartoon characters doing things rather than real people.
Bravo, South Park. Keep it up because the world needs that sort of voice on television.
I’m a little disappointed by the comments made here as if the two great producers and directors need to be pilloried by other than a lack of sales at the box office. That is how one says a film is no good by not going. I saw the South Park program in question and thought it was awful. I see about a third of the South Park programs…or less. To think that someone would allow these men to be treated to this awful cartoon depiction is beyond me. The public taste is so low now that I just can’t imagine anything worse. This was beyond cruel. These men have children, families…and a history of providing great entertainments and deserve some respect. That they should be depicted engaging in sexual acts not according to their nature…the crudity of this presentation…shocking. This goes beyond fair criticism…and beyond the right of people to critique the works of artists…it’s intentional misrepresentation and a smear of these creative mens’ characters. South Park producers should be sued and should lose.
I’d like to point out that Southpark did something similar a few years ago, when Lucas and Spielberg were redoing their old movies, adding scenes, and all that garbage. It was beautiful, and during one of the commercials, they had an interview with the creators, who talked about the first episode. They “re-released” the first episode, with the kids at the bus stop, with explosions and space ships in the background.
But yeah, the last episode was a pretty big kick in the balls. Plus George Lucas was literally raping a storm trooper.
“Incredibly racist episode?” What was racist? The Chinese stuff? Get over it. South Park is hilarious and guaranteed to offend someone.
Good for Trey and Matt. Hollywood is run by degenerate old men who are immersed in their own fantasies of glory. There hasn’t been a good movie produced in years. The whole hollywood culture rotted to the core years ago. All the fancy sets, special effects wizardry and all the other nonsense, it’s just a compensation for a complete emptiness of spirit. It’s a microcosm of the whole country as we are seeing with the melt down of the economy. The values were thrown out years ago and were replaced with pure greed and gluttony.Without a spirit the body dies. Hollywood’s only spirit is greed. In the old days the makers of entertainment used to have something to say, it was simple, direct and honest. Now a bunch of fancy words are strung together creating nothing but impressive sounding gibberish and the makers of this excrement think of themselves as gods.
Another awesome episode! I felt raped after Indy 4 also. I couldn’t remember anything about the plot within a couple of days after seeing it, but feel the pain to this day of having to suffer through it. How else could I have used that lost time and money?
Any South Park fan knows that their half seasons are in March and October, so no they could not have done this is June (Matt C). The first episode of the season gives them ample time to think, so I’m sure they’ve had it on the mind since June. The rest of the episodes are made on a much tighter timeline.
South Park is the greatest show on TV; I didn’t really like this episode that much, but who the hell cares that they made fun of Spielberg and Lucas. Anyone who knows the show well enough knows that they ripped on them 5 or 6 years ago, with Indiana Jones as the specific subject material.
Yes, this was way over the line.
You may only make fun of the people and groups that the “hollywood crowd” says that you can: white middle Americans, the South, Republicans, Christians, etc.
Indy 4 was “the best of” Stephen Spielburg. All it needed was a shark.
South Park always crosses lines. That’s what makes it funny.
Oh this conversation is making me mad about that movie all over again!!!
I think the entire thing was a subliminal message disguised in code words. It was really a racist attack on Barrack Obama. Everything else is. They should be arrested for a hate crime. Power to the people.
Gee, it’s funny how all those Hollywood-ites who live by the free speech and artistic creativity mode suddenly get defensive when the speech and creativity make fun of them.
“They were making fun of the absurd anti-Chinese sentiments some people had …”
Riiiight…
This was funny stuff.
If you think South Park is racist you are not understanding it. The point is to make fun of the people that actually act like that.
Racist? Are you kidding me? The subplot about Cartman being afraid of the Chinese taking over America is barely a blip on the ‘offensive-meter’.
You’re obviously a PC idiot who has never even SEEN an episode of South Park.
And by the way, Indy 4 sucked ass. Anyone who has seen the movie would agree that Spielburp and Fatman raped Indy.
Big time.
South Park dumps on everybody & everything. EVERYBODY & EVERYTHING……..GET IT?
“YOU BASTARDS!!!” ROFLMAO!!!
Go get them, Southpark!
awesome
What happened to freedom of speech and freedom of the press in this country? This is a ridiculous example of the fact that all media outlets are now owned by a handful of people and therefore shows must worry about who they offend instead of going on with their satire.
Besides, it’s a comedy, relax a little bit.
I thought it was a good movie
Oddly enough, are we supposed to be surprised by this ‘Hating on Lucas and Spielburg’? Hell Free Hat already laid the ground work for this episode by pointing fun at Lucas and Spielburg remaking their old movies with updated graphics, or changing guns into walkie talkies, etc. They’ve begun making more movies from franchises they’ve already played out and were well enough left dead rather than dug up out of the grave only to have a fat stinking turd laid on the memory of a once good series. Kudos to Trey and Matt for pointing out their stupidity once again.
Aliens don’t belong in the Indiana Jones universe. PERIOD!!!
We love you South Park
now spielberg and lucas are acting like obama – dont dare say anything other than worship or yor are racist, etc – blah, blah, blah
thanks obama, this is what you have brought to this country. the obama vitriol is going to do nothing but get worse.
The truth hurts, doesn’t it Spielberg and Lucas.
Maybe if you didn’t do such a bad job of destroying the series this wouldn’t have happened.
Stop making movies! Your old and you’ve both lost your touch.
Write a book or better yet, drop dead!
South Park is still the best show on tv. It’s comedy…quit taking yourselves so seriously.
I think this is revenge on Paramount for both Tom Cruise and pussing out on Mohammed..
And I’m sorry, but the “anti-Chinese” stuff in this ep was on-par with Shitty Wok as far as “racism” goes.. BTW Cartman mostly stands in for the typical venal dumbass American, so it was actually a commentary on the sheeplike panic relating to the Olympics..
I still didn’t like this ep as much as, say, ‘Major Boobage’, but Lucas raping Indy on the ‘Howard the Duck’ pinball machine just about made me LMAO and puke simultaneously, which is probably what they were going for..
I don’t think “some people” understand that South Park is and always has been a (wonderfully funny) tool to illustrate the absurdity that’s taken over our “politically correct” society — Whether terrorism, homosexuality, guns, religion, superstar film directors, etc. A cartoon that actually makes the viewer *think* once in a while.
Do Matt and Trey go “too far” occasionally? ABSOLUTELY!!! And I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s not a cartoon for kids. It was never meant to be. I hope it never is.
Hilarious episode!
SOUTH PARK RULES!!
I am so glad that South Park had to nerve to go ahead with this episode. Someone needed to say it, and I am glad they were the ones. Indy 4 was a mess, and the people out there who said it was a good movie were joking themselves. This is the same shit I have been saying since I sat thru that piece of garbage. Aliens in an Indiana Jones film? The whole story was ridiculous, and props to them for finally saying it! Up until now, I thought I was the only one!
South Park sucks these days anyway.
A great opener for the new season. They hit the nail on the head, Lucas and Spielberg destroyed the Indiana Jones series with that movie.
I love the part where Jimmy says something like “Did you see the part with the fridge, it made no sense”
I was thinking the exact same thing at the time. South Park rules. They give the finger to political correctness.
And the Chinese thing, it wasn’t all sarcasm. There is an element of truth to every offensive thing Cartman does, if there wasn’t it wouldn’t be funny or offensive now would it?
I saw the episode and thought it was awesome! Classic proof of why those guys need a medal. Brilliant social commentary hidden behind paper cutouts and crude words. Indy 4 was just all kinds of WTF?! all the way through. The bit with the conveniently lead-lined fridge was the best part of that movie (and classic Indy a la jumping out of a plane in an inflatable boat) but the rest…
The South Park gang are the collective Sartre/Grimm/[dare I say] Shakespear of our time. Using words and spectacle to shine a light on the idiocy and hypocracy of all aspects of our world. Some viewers may miss it under all the fart jokes – but it’s there.
And it wasn’t racist – it was actually anti-racist. That’s satire for you.
Free speech can be a bitch sometimes
Southpark seems to have gone to the juveniles. Just because a man created a film you didn’t care for they deserve this???
It’s comedy at people expense. Perhaps a show about Southpark’s creators being raped/beaten. They could learn something from the “Greatest Generation”.
Wonder how when they have kids and grandchildren how they’ll react to garbage the spew.
Think about it. Life isn’t always in the NOW..
It’s a cartoon retards!
See, at first I thought the episode was pretty over the top, and that they may have crossed the line… but then it struck me: Did it cross the line any further than Spielberg and Lucas did when they had Shia make like Tarzan with the monkeys?
No, it didn’t, and I think Trey and Matt were right on the ball.
No,they couldn’t do an episode in June because their season suspends prior to that until fall. Where have you been hiding smartie? Its been that way for YEARS!
Oh, and the movie sucked. Good for the South Park folks!
Both National Treasure movies were vastly superior to Indy 4.
Doesn’t the DVD get released next week? Am I just way too cynical if I see this as a marketing ploy?
They forgot that only liberals are allowed to hate.
For anyone who actually watches the seires the idea that Southpark may have “Finally” crossed the line is so absurd it’s almost worth it’s own Southpark episode.
Good Comedy is rooted in Truth. Southpark has been Good Comedy.
Absurd, Offensive, Unflinching, Unforgiving… Truth.
The close up on Lucas’ face as he explodes into Indy was priceless. Didn’t notice it was a Howard the Duck pinball machine. Now I gotta go watch it again (and again) on Southparkzone.com.
If SouthPark bothers you, don’t watch it. No longer a cult following, many of us true fans have been waiting with baited breath, counting down the days till this aired. I was not disappointed and from the sound of it neither did the true fans.
BTW- They didn’t air this when the “Film” came out in June as they were on a break.
Can’t wait to see what they do with the election!
In a world that is growing more and more humorless, thank god for Matt and Trey and all the good folks who put this magical show together.
Thank God for South Park.
Oh Matty, you are spot on (and don’t tell anyone but your comment about Lucas’ pert buttocks gave me a bit of wood. Your use of the word “pert” showed me that you’re a true afficionado like me. EWWWWWW, fellow voyager!!) And why can’t these idiots, these middle Americans, ever see satire when it is staring them right in the face like a big brown starfish, Matty? Hmmm? Parker and Stone are just so, so witty and clever and they are just light years too advanced for most of their audience and they give me wood, too.
What’s the big deal? Spielberg and Lucas raped Indiana Jones. It’s the truth. They also raped Indiana Jones fans and moviegoers of all walks of life.
Bravo Matt and Trey! Keep up the good work. South Park is one of the VERY few things worth watching on TV.
comedy, maybe; but tasteles for sure. Indy4 wasn’t the greatest, but really folks, it was just a movie. Oh well, this isn’t the place to fight these battles.
Ah, the truth hurts, huh guys? Equate this to the halocaust; blame it on the influence of Stone’s “W”, i.e., if he can do that stuff, it’s OK for us to “whine” like GWB has–wait, GWB has said nothing!! He accepts satire and laughs it off. He’s not suffering!!!! Southpark must be anti semitic…no, wait, this was homosexual sex…Gosh!!! Maybe you Hollywood Jewish “leaders” are the Tribe of Ham, so it’s anti negro…I’m so confused!?!
“There’s gambling going on at Rick’s. I’m shocked!”
You’re ALL right!
Both Indy AND South Park SUCK!
Did they go over the top??? No. but let me ask you, did Indiana Jones 4 go over the top? I mean sword fighting through the amazon in vehicles, finding out the secret involved aliens, the refrigerator scene? I have made my claim. Also South park is getting really good at creating hilarious body language in their animation, it makes the scenes funnier. Viva South Park.
Those of you who have somehow turned this into a conservative/liberal or mccain/obama bash session need to realize something – what’s coming out of your fingers speaks volumes more about YOU than THIS.
Do people still watch South Park? Wow, grow up.
Um, I hope I’m not letting out any secrets here, but this is not the first (or second, or really third) time that SouthPark has made fun of Speilberg and Lucas. It’s obvious Trey and Matt are like the rest of us and SICK OF THESE DOUCHEBAGS!!!
Long Live SP and long live FREE SPEECH!!
what’s the problem? this is exactly what happened to indy 4 – that movie was an abomination. and guess which two rapists laughed themselves all the way to the bank.
great… love this… Spielberg and Lucas ruined films. They are two old hacks. Rape em…
South Park, despite its ‘hip’ appeal, is actually pretty ignorant at its core. That means it perfectly appeals to the ‘know-it-all’ adolescents and twenty-somethings it aims for in its demographics (the cartoon version of Jon Stewart.) That said, I loss no sleep over Spielberg and Lucas being scorched. They’ve both been on cruise control creatively for the last twenty years or so.
Kudos to South Park. Indy 4 was a horrible movie. It only seems fair, since Steven and George offended fans, fans should offend them right back.
Poor little multi-millionaires. They should buy senses of humor or else stop making movies that have stereotypes and cliches.Waaaah.
I thought it was amazing. There has been much more racier episodes. I was waiting for a Russian Ban episode though. A little late I thought for both subjects.
I couldnt stop laughing. This episode was so funny. I hope not too many feelings were hurt at the expense of my entertainment. I dont know how they keep coming up with the material. Too good.
Thanks CT Sherwin! LOL – that was awesome! Could not have said it better myself.
I would be completely outraged at the content of this article,
but then I close my eyes and and it all starts to come back… the ceaseless heaving and pounding (sob) of Speilberg and Lucas thrusting poor Indy down into that same hole they crammed the Star Wars franchise. Oh, the horror… the horror…
I suspect Matt & Trey’s next installment will have to involve beastiality, flaggelation and necrophelia; if there were ever two directors who don’t know when to stop beating a dead horse…
Completely rambling and irrelevent – it was boring and the scenes were way too long. They’ve jumped the shark.
South Park is a fantastic show that unlike the “indiana jones” movies, keeps getting better with time. I take my hat off to Matt and Trey and everyone at “South Park” for not being scared to take the gloves off and hit up subjects that need to be talked about. They use their clever wit and good ole dark humor to go where the mainstream media is scared to.
“south park” taking on issues such as kissing jessie jackson’s ass, brittney spears (children of the corn), and now lucas and speilberg is just cementing Trey and Matt’s place in history as people who use their influence and creativity to tell it like it is to the festering sore that is hollywood these days.
Keep up the good work Trey and Matt….and you too Les claypool for keeping it real!
Hollywood likes to poke fun at people, I don’t see the problem here. The only difference is we got to see it for free this time.
I am a huge Indy fan…grew up watching the movies…just luved them BUT had a feeling the last one was a stinker, so I never saw it….thank God I didn’t….I’ll just remember the older ones.
I think it says something about our society that Parker and Stone present an episode which makes light Chinese nationalism, movie producers, and RAPE provokes more outrage and disgust for “racism” and insulting movie producers than for RAPE.
The episode really crossed the line for me, but only because rape is the only thing I don’t consider a laughing matter. Graphic depictions of rape, even ones intended to be humorous and done with cartoons, are unacceptable on basic cable. I really regret that I can no longer watch South Park with my (otherwise very resilient) family.
They should have given Indy to the cute animals in Imagination Land…Dum De Dum Dum Dum!
Lucas & Spielberg got owned…and Trey Parker & Matt Stone will not apologize for it, and that’s why they don’t need instructions to know how to rock.
What irked me about the program was that when Spielberg was raping Harrison he was going at it like he was raping a woman. This raises questions about Harrison’s sexuality, if you think about it.
The show was disgusting.
I haven’t seen this episode yet, and probably won’t watch it, since I don’t consider “rape” as something to watch as “entertainment”…
BUT I will defend the show and their choice to do this scene.
WHY?
Because if someone does this kind of thing in a “movie” with “live actors” then the “film” gets called “art”.
And the studios are constantly paying for that to take place.
So why is this being treated any different?
you know? i still havent seen indy 4 yet, and i dont think that matters. wether i like it or not, this south park is outrageously funny, pure and simple.
if i were lucas or speilberg (being good friends with harrison ford) id just laugh, but thats just me.
some people make movies, some people who make fun of people who make movies, its not a big deal, people just need to take everything with a grain of salt.
The thing that you guys don’t get is that Lucas, at least, probably thinks it was funny. The interviews I’ve seen with him show a pretty good sense of humor. Don’t know about Spielberg.
After all, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was A STEVEN SPIELBERG FILM. I kinda doubt he’d have taken that title if Lucas was so heavily involved.
It’s just that the “Lucas-bashers” have a hard time believing Spielberg could have made an iffy movie. It’s as if they’ve forgotten about “Always.”
And “The Terminal.”
And “Amistad.”
And “The Lost World.”
And “1941.”
And “The Twlight Zone.”
And “Hook.”
None of which were as successful and popular as the last three “Star Wars” movies.
“South Park” said “Blame Canada.” I say, “Blame Spielberg.”
LONG LIVE SOUTH PARK.
F**k Cruise, Scientology, Hollywood Hypocrites et al
Regardless of how the SouthPark creators feel about the latest Indiana Jones flick, Spielberg or Lucas they have crossed the line once again. Teenage boys and mentally challenged adults will without doubt disagree but always trying to shock and one up the most obscene thing ever aired is getting old, tired and contributing to the dumbing down of our youth, country and culture. Southpark is no longer about comedy, it is about pushing the agenda of two mentally depraved individuals and brainwashing the intellectually challenged that find it amusing.
You had better be careful what you say about South Park. You could be the subject of the next episode. Yes, South Park is the funniest thing on television, and their dark, biting satire truly great stuff. I try to never miss them.
Matt and Trey apologize to Lucas and Spielberg?? HA! It should be Spielberg and Lucas apologizing to the public for their HORRIBLE treatment of a great set of characters. They think we are not as smart as they are, or something. Like we can’t see when they are just throwing in effects and chase scenes because they can’t sort out a compelling script. Neither of them think anything of the public’s reaction to their desctruction of their characters. Why should we care about their lame DVD sales.
What rock have you guys been living under? this is par for the course mot South Park. You may not like the presentation but there is some very deep political and social commentary going on in that show. Some people may find it lewd and crass but thats the point, they want to offend our sensibilities. Matt and Trey and their writers are geniouses. Their insight into the world we live in is great and while you may not like the presentation, there are much deeper things being said about the state of the world we live in, if you cannot see that then maybe you should take a look around you without myopic preconceptions.
more proof that these creepy old dinosaur men who run hollywood need to retire or be forced out. there hasn’t been a truly great movie in years. these entrenched fools need to go and make room for people with some creativity.
I love South Park. I haven’t seen this episode yet (because I am waiting to see Indy 4). Most of the die-hard fans know the purpose and intent of the show. They make their points by taking situations to metaphors and extremes, always involving bathroom humor. It is designed to shock, make you laugh and think (and possibly a bit uncomfortable). However, a couple of commenters here don’t seem to get it. Saying Middle America is stupid means you don’t watch or get it at all. The whole point is everyone is stupid in their own way (must not have seen the smug episode or the “my science is better than your science” / Wii saga).
My personal favorite comment is DizzyGirl’s about Palin. I don’t believe it will happen in the way she thinks. I think Matt and Trey will take on the phenomenon. They are going to make fun of conservatives loving her, but the bigger send-up is going to be on the press and the unfounded rumors (maybe hard-core feminists as well). I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
If you don’t like them because it is juvenile or ignorant to the core, then go back to watching PBS and high-level arts channels and listening to NPR (not that those are bad). Or think of it in another way, like Shakespeare, something for everyone. High-brow stuff with a bit of raunch for the crowd. South Park is just a bit of a different mix (more raunch).
If you are easily offended, then stop watching because it will happen again. There are still a few of them that make me uncomfortable, like Woodland Critters’ Christmas and some of the Garrison sexual exploration episodes (like the science ones again).
Spielberg is not the same as Lucas. Spielberg has made Munich, Shindler’s List, War of the Worlds (I thought it was great) Lucas is a walking disaster. he’s built an amazing effects company but the last three Star Wars movies were nothing like the first three. Bad acting was allowed through, the plot was obvious, the dialogue dreary, and lets not forget Jar-Jar. Lucas is the geek gone wild. He know how to make effects, and edit a movie, but he’s forgotten how to deliver a tight film.
Lucas is dunzo.
This is all a part of a plot Matt & Trey to get fired from CC…they are tired of producing SP, and WANT to be let go, collect the balance of their contract and start producing movies…believe it!
“Speaking truth to power” is only legitimate when it’s the left-wing doing the speaking. Marxist oppressors don’t like it when libertarians and conservatives speak truth to leftist power. Marxist oppessors like most of Hollywood’s producers, writers, backers, etc. don’t believe in opposition to their message. Their message must be the only valid message. That’s why we’re hearing about this outrage.
The only bad work I’ve seen Matt & Trey do was the South Park movie. The TV episodes are absolutely hilarious!
Just more proof the Hollywood elite hate true free speech. Also, this will just make South Park MORE popular. If you had simply ignored it, it would have gone away. Now it’s linked to Drudge meaning at LEAST a million people will watch it online, on DVD-R, and upload it on youtube and other video sites. Just wait, this is just the start of making this episode HUGE. Hey, let Pukas and Squeelberg try to stop it now. Just let them TRY. Nothing could be better.
South Park was RIGHT and the episode was hilarious!! Go Matt and Trey!!!
South Park is just trashy stories for trashy people. It has nothing to do with real living and its one-liners do nothing to stimulate a better quality of life. Who needs it? It’s certainly not a newsworthy item.
iv been a south park fan for years, like the cast of mad tv. stone and parker dont through away i deas even if there not funny,
i saw indi 4 when it came out and i thought it was awsome. i didnt buy the where ……… well shouldnt spoil it, and m not talking about the part with the allins. that ruled. alot of people need south park to tell em what to think. star wars 2 was little bit lame
but it wasnt as bad people make it out
you wanna see a bad movie i recomend “a knight with the king”
“I am a parent of 8 and 6 year old children, and this kind of junk television is the reason I pulled the satellite dish down and turned the TV reception off. Go rent a movie Disney and the scholastic videos and be quite entertaining for the whole Family.
My 8 year old son loved Indiana Jones Movie and we rented the old one’s to.
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are Great Movie makers and my kids love their movies.
I feel sorry for those who are addicted to the Television, Life is to short to waste it with eyes glued to the TV.”
Why Do sanctimonious Pricks always inappropriately capitalize Their words during Their Inane family-First blog Comments?
Matt & Trey humorously said what those of us born in the 1970s feel. Star Wars was “raped” by Lucas with the prequels, and Indiana Jones has followed suit. These were epic movies from our childhood that helped shaped our imaginations… the Star Wars prequels and Indy 4 “raped” those iconic films. They were not made in the same spirit, they were used as ATM machines for quick cash.
Well, Paramount’s name is on the film as well – makes them look bad too.
“Speaking truth to power is only acceptable when it is aimed at Republicans and conservatives. And, seeing how the Parker and Stone have Libertarian leanings, this is not good (wringing hands). Get with the program.
Comment by Joe”
Uh huh…I guess the Democratic powers (Frank, Pelosi) that fought the regulations and won that has lead to the sub-prime mortgage fiasco wouldn’t be considered “powers that be”?. GIVE ME A BREAK.
You are the one who needs to get with the program.
could not stop laughing!!!
fan for life
THIS SHOW WAS HILARIOUS!!!!
who cares if it was racist…racism is funny…thats the problem with america no one knows how to laugh at themselves anymore…look at dave chapell…he was a huge racist but no one called em on it cause he was black…but he knew how to laugh at himself and the black community sterio type…LONG LIVE MATT AND TREY
I hate being shot in the dick
Karen Allen looked like she was just happy to have a job in Indy 4 – and in Indy 5, I hope they get rid of that annoying asshole Shia what’s-his-name.
I didn’t Indy 4 was that bad, it was more like Spielberg and Lucas were slumming their way through. And each Indy film (even “Raiders”) had their over-the-top moments. And with the 19 year wait, there was bound to be disappointment with the eventual fourth film.
And as for their (South Park) half-season scheduling, it still wasn’t a timely topic (now if they timed it to coincide with the DVD/Blu-ray release it’d be a different story). SP is funny, but that episode… eh, not so much.
While I’m not a follower of South Park, I have no problem with them saying and satirizing what many people already think. There may have been a more tasteful way of saying those things, but when did South Park ever claim to be tasteful.
I think many studio heads saw the hundreds of millions those films targeted in this skit brought in and thought they had a good product. Star Wars and Indy WERE to film what Led Zeppelin was to Rock and Roll: A sure thing. Lucas especially figured fans would simply eat up whatever he made and like it. Those films raked in that cash because people remember them for being great and are hoping to see greatness again. Now they essentially see horrific filmaking with trademark characters being marketed as the authentic item they remember. Perhaps it is fanboy-ness running amok, but fanboys’ money is green and plentiful and fickle when provoked too often. Remember how the animated Star Wars bombed this summer? Three consecutive terrible movies will do that to the strongest franchise. Indy will have the same fate if these guys aren’t careful.
Those who are familiar with South Park and it’s creators are aware that Trey Parker married an Asian woman. He mentions this on the commentary to that episode which accompanies the season 9 DVD set. Trey mentions it during the commentary on the episode “Ginger Kids”. He states that he married an Asian woman to ensure that none of his children would be “ginger”-red hair and freckles.
Also, to those who are even just a little bright, the “racism” in this episode is portrayed in a way which makes it look ridiculous. In other words, this show is making fun of anti Asian racism. To claim that one can’t parady racism because to do so one has to portray it is ridiculous, and UPTIGHT!
Commentators such as Finke are so uptight and thick that they try to controll and limit other peoples speach. To let this type of nanny mentality have it’s way leads to a humorless and stupid world. Why didn’t Finke cry out to defend “gingers” when that episode said that “ginger” people didn’t have souls and wanted to take over the world? Answer-ginger people are white and it is an unstated but understood tenet of political correctness that “white people baaaaaaaad- all other people goooooood”.
People expected way too much from Indy 4 and it really was a lot like the previous films no matter what people say. All the Indy movies were corny, hokey, and over the top.
The only reason people give them exception is because they grew up with the movies. I love Indiana Jones, but I’m also aware of how cheesy it is and Indy 4 was just more of the same cheese.
People complain about aliens? Given the context of the time period, it made sense. It was the 50s. The previous movies had a big thing for spooky religious artifacts. Both cases are farfetched nonsense.
It was a fun film. I agree with Butters.
Why would any one be suprised that South Park is offensive. It has always been offensive. And, oh yeah, it is usually pretty funny. If you don’t like it don’t watch it.
Screw Spielberg…no talent charlatan raja of Hollywood who is nauseating enough to say that the most important day of his life was when he met Fidel Castro. The guy deserves this and WAY worse.
WTF? South Park crossing the line? Are you serious? Really? I would have never guessed.
But I fully approve. 10+ years and it’s still funny as hell. IMHO, American Dad & Family Guy are still playing catchup at the line crossing thing.
Someone needs to “look into” changing the channel if they don’t like what they see. Friggin’ morality twats.
Hey, most everybody asked for Indy 4. Since 1989 Lucas, Spielberg and Especially Ford could not give a single interview without it coming up. The guy was asked about it almost daily. You get asked the same question all the time for 18 years, you’ll put anything out – just to quel the questions. I’m sure if Harrison does promotion for “Crossing Over” – if the sunavabitch ever gets released – more than a few people will ask “So, Harrison, When’s Indy V coming out?”
For everyone who said the franchise should have been left alone, remember that.
We asked for it – we got it.
“Hated”? Is this yet another new term from the politically correct cotton wool brigade?
free speech, baby! live with it!!
Trey and Matt have said before that after the first two or three seasons, they got sick of the show and tried to get canceled for lewdness/crudeness/whatever, and instead their popularity grew even more. I don’t think they give a rat’s ass either way. If they don’t get in trouble, BFD! Plus, they still get paid. If they get in trouble, BFD. Plus, they still get paid. I don’t think they could care less. And neither does anyone else.
Don’t blame Parker and Stone. The manatees did it.
The longer we refuse to insult everyone and everything the longer will there be prejudice and bigotry. Trying to avoid hurting any group’s feelings is tantamount to saying that the group is inferior and can’t take it.
Let’s all throw an insult at our favorite protected class Now
This was one of the best South Park episodes in a while. South Park did what South Park does best, mock those who think a little too highly of themselves. Spielberg and Lucas were ripe for the fall. Indy 4 was not a very good film, standing alone, and was horrible as a sequel to the previous Indy films.
The only part of Indy 4 that felt like the other indy movies was when he got off the bike, and then crawled through the car to get right back on the bike again. That was pretty much it.
Oh and the refrigerator surviving a direct hit from a NUKE? REALLY? I MEAN REALLY???
People are complaining about the show? South Park is the only real thing left on TV. The go after Conservaties and Liberals and point out the absurdity of things around us. The rape scenes come from famous hollywood movies…shocking yes, but get over it and get a life.
I think the episode was brilliant as usual, it is “SATIRE” people and you can say whatever you like!!!
Watching South Park is one of my guilty pleasures. When this episode was on, my wife walked into the room and said ” Why do you watch this crap?” I explained “It has great social insight”. She responded “it’s rude and crass”. I took issue with her. Then we turned to the TV and there was Speilberg, pounding Indiana Jones on a pinball machine.
Pure Genius!!! South park rules!!! love it..when the truth hurts..they step it up a notch but thats why its so fun
This is just another example of how people who become desensitized to wallowing in garbage become distracted from what is really happening to themselves and to their Country.
The best thing about INDY 4 was the cinematography, which I thought was a spectacular recreation of Hitchcock era Technicolor. And the Production Design was good too.
However, South Park is RIGHT ON.
Once I saw that David Koepp’s name on the credits I knew we were in for a “kitchen sink” sort of script.
WHY AREN’T WRITERS DOING THEIR JOBS ANYMORE? I asked this question at the beginning of the strike and felt that as much as the WGA was attempting to work on behalf of writers, there are few actual scribes today that really know what the hell they are doing with their craft.
In INDY 4, Koepp and Spielberg should have mined the “Stalin mind control” theme and played it out. South Park was right… aliens are a cheap trick when it comes to storytelling. And are too boring now to even mention except in satire. Too “deux ex machina” if ya know what I mean…
Nikki:
“Savage Adult Toon”? Are you serious? If this episode was about Sarah Palin being gang raped you would have thought it was the funniest damn thing you ever saw. Spare us the contrived, selective outrage. George and Steve have raped and strip-mined this once great film property. Good for South Park for calling them on it. Paramount is no fan of Spielberg anyway. Believe me Sumner wasn’t blind sided by this.
South Park is one of the few honest, unflinching shows on television, and a true commentary on our times.
I think it should be preserved for aliens, so when they come upon the Earth, they will understand what happened to it’s population.
South Park > MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox News.
Long live South Park!
the problem with hollywood is that they are suprised by this kind of backlash and the spoofs derived from it because it was such a box office hit.
Wake up call:
It did well because its a long loved franchise. Everyone was going to see it because its been years since the last one. People saw it, and like many things Lucas ruined it. People will buy the dvd to have it part of the collection, but it will sit there and collect dust.
Good Franchises = Big Money at the box office.
GREAT Movies = Record breakers ala Thew Dark Knight.
Studios, please learn.
One of the best South Parks ever! The storm trooper scene was a little bit to real for any of us who have ever had a project in development with spielberg/kennedy. there is nothing more fearful than getting a call from your agent on friday night telling you that steven wants you to stop by the house on saturday to “discuss some ideas”, “oh and use the back entrance by the stables.”
The real controversy should be the hate towards P.F. Chang’s. Remember last season Randy had to go to the doctor cause he was eating to much p.f. chang’s?
This is serious, Stone and Parker are messing with the money train. Speilberg/Lucas money train! This could bring them down. The set up could be in the works now. Be careful South Park! I love you guys!
God! were those scenes creepy. I am still cringing.
I just love that when it comes down to it…liberal hollywood is nothing but a big company town where anyone who dares to differ from the “company line” is at risk….such much for all the 1st amendment babble hollywood preaches
Whoever thinks South Park is funny has ABSOLUTELY NO CLASS!!!! You’re just a bunch of perverted morons!
I have sat quietly by and laughed as the boys made fun of Jesus and Moses and the Bishop of Rome and Barbra Streisand and Islam and Hentai and the war on terror and rectal UFO broadcasting dishes and Christianity and poor people in Africa and reverse racism and samurai cartoons and political gays and the KKK and doody and Ben Affleck and Mel Gibson and every other sacred cow that moos in America. And even though I loved Indiana Jones IV, I also thought that this episode with its whack at a movie genre (which also happens quite often) was very funny. Yes, the “ick” factor was high, but it’s always high on South Park. Now get into the kitchen and get me my pie!..
Who raped whom? South Park simply presented a homage for how the audience leaving the latest Indiana Jones “adventure” felt.
South Park is like Madonna, when it starts going stale, the do something stupid for for free publicity.
ZZzzzzzzzz.
South Park can get away with making fun of the presidents, Jesus, Canada, blacks/whites/chinese, muslims, the Baldwins (haha), scientologist, NAMBLA, global warming, san francisco, etc
but as soon as it comes to making fun of Lucas and Spielberg, they have gone too far!!!!!
get a life.
Boo hoo hoo! Lucas & Spielberg raped my childhood! Get a fucking life, losers!
Great episode, and quite true. China cheated us in the Olympics, Indy 4 sucked, and racism is far more funny than the sexism running rampant on the news.
How could anyone possibly be surprised by this? South park as usual. Just watch and enjoy.
In case you people don’t know, South Park offends EVERYONE. It’s their job and their duty. When will people understand this concept?
If Spielberg and Lucas are so thin-skinned as to exert influence over Viacom for this, they deserve to be put on a desert island by themselves for the rest of their natural lives.
It’s a FRIGGIN’ cartoon, people! These people are billionaires. Fuck ‘em if they can’t take a joke.
Come on, don’t you remember the South Park movie had Saddam Hussein sodomizing satan? And the war on Canada? Trey and Matt have a grip on the kind of dark humor that seems to satisfy our morbid tastes…. that most of us will never admit to. I bet Speilberg, Lucas, and even Ford laughed so hard they spewed their crown royal all over their private theatres. Just my opinion.
i’m a dumb blonde and a drug-addled slut.
PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT DISTURBED BY HOW GRAPHIC THOSE RAPE SCENES WHERE NEED TO SERIOUSLY EVALUATE THERE MORALS!
if there were ever two directors who don’t know when to stop beating a dead horse…
You did see ‘Jared has Aides’, yes?
http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/153287
I was laughing so hard that I was crying and thinking to myself, this has got to be some of the most offensive stuff I have ever seen! It was hilarious!!!!South Park hit the nail on the head and we all were able to laugh about it in the privacy of our homes, just as South Park had wanted. If you take everything a cartoon makes fun of to heart then you are an ignorant socialist!!!! More importnat stuff is going down then what ever hurt feelings this rediculous cartoon can cause. The world is going to hell in a hand basket, thank God for South Park and their offensive humor to help make the ride comical!
First of all, everyone who thought that Indy at 58 years old would be just as good as the younger Indy, OF COURSE the movie wasn’t as good. That’s the point. You had to grade that movie on the curve. The VERY ’special’ curve.
Second, I just watched the episode online. If people are STILL shocked that South Park would stoop this low and use such intense imagery, they must not have seen the South Park movie or none of the TEN seasons of episodes that have been made.
Third, using that VERY ’special’ curve, I liked the movie. Did it make sense? IT’S A MOVIE!!! IT’S FICTION, YOU MOTARDS!!!
South Park always makes me laugh. The things that come out of their mouths! Love it. Please don’t bridle them.
It’s one of the best things on tv.
“Do people still watch South Park? Wow, grow up.” “South Park, despite its ‘hip’ appeal, is actually pretty ignorant at its core.” These words are coming from the same kinds of pretentious people who South Park so bitingly makes fun of.
Besides the fact that the show wasn’t being racist, you all should know that Trey Parker is married to an Asian woman, and he’s a big fan of Asian culture. Listen to his DVD commentaries for proof.
Wednesday’s show was over-the-top in order to publicly shame Lucas and Spielberg. These two guys have been living in ivory towers for decades and Lucas especially has been unwilling to listen to criticism about his work. Lucas’ early movies were great because he was forced to collaborate with people. And now that he has absolute power he’s making changes to great movies and great characters without anyone having the guts to tell him that he’s destroying his former good work. So Matt & Trey pulled out a bullhorn to make sure that they finally hear the message.
And as far as anybody hoping for a Palin spoof, you might get a little something, but I’d more likely expect a spoof of Obama and Biden. Palin has been mercilessly been made fun of in the media while O & B have been virtually untouched. Parker & Stone love to make fun of sacred cows and they always zig while everybody else is zagging. If you’re a fan of O & B, I’d be very afraid.
What is wrong with this episode? Its 100% true.
Aliens don’t belong in an Indy movie.
Indy was raped by his makers.
The chinese have every intent of taking over the world.
Bank on it. Start learning the chinese language now USA.
I’m 66….laughed my ass off as I do with almost all SP episodes. None of the big three networks have anything worth while to watch so it’s Discovery, History, Military and South Park. It’s socially redeeming. People who can’t find the humor in that SP ought to pull the pole out of their ass.
Trey Parker will take a swipe at anyone these days just to get press. He is still hurting in the pocket on home much his “Team America” movie bombed. South Park has jumped the shark years ago and it looks like they are doing anything to make it relevant. At least is compresses well in an MPEG encoder.
Parker & Stone are brilliant. I have always appreciated their efforts to remind us not to take ourselves too seriously. Not to mention how they have this keen ability to zero in on the things we consider entertainment and show us just how silly it can be sometimes. It was a funny episode. Spielberg and Lucas aren’t so special that they are above reproach.
Poor, poor Tom! You shouldn’t be writing comments at 9:31 in the morning. Obviously you’re not fully awake! …or aware? Your sense of humor is still somewhere around 2a.m. and fantasizing. Juveniles? Do you really think a juvy would understand this material. Maybe we should ban “Ulysses” because a 10-year old can’t understand it. With your basically retarded…or is it born again Christian..point of view, why do even watch South Park. Are you a masochist. You’re a kinky guy, Tom. Is not some of the best satire in the world about real people? And, what do you read your children at night…the Zoning Laws of Podunk, New jersey. Get a life, Tom! Finally, it’s unlikely Parker and Stone will have to worry about kids and grandchildren since they are both gay. hehehehehehe Get it, Tom!
well ,I gotta say that I agree with the South park episode…that is pretty much what Spielberg and Lucas did to Indiana Jones, whether they care to admit it or not.
racist? err, the 1940’s and 50’s called, they want their white hoods, linens, and burning crosses back pronto!
I just had to respond to a couple things: that “comparing rape to seeing a bad movie is awful” and “South Park’s liberal leanings are not a good sign”
First of all they were not comparing seeing a bad movie to rape, they were saying it was like watching someone you love get raped and not being able to do anything about it. In essence they were saying George and Steve raped the franchise that they loved…
Second, SP has always hit both sides of the political spectrum hard. They hate on liberal hippies and make fun of ’smug’ liberals in hybrids just as much as uptight conservatives…
People who don’t watch the show on a regular basis see these headlines about “this one extreme episode controversy” and make all these assumptions about it like they know what it meant.
OMG THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END, SOMEONE ACTUALLY MADE A FUNNY ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE. EGADS, You might have hurt someones feelings….that’s just terrible…the whimps can’t handle someone saying something about them…and what if someone hears or reads it? They might freak out, you know how sensitive people are. Jerks!!!!!!
Too bad hollywierd. You can dish out anything you want against America, Patriots, soldiers, etc. yet you can’t take a parody. Go cry in your billion dollar offshore fund. I guess the leftwing thought police go into action on November 5th if the election goes that way. Atlas Shrugged time people. Who is John Gault?
Wow, I actually stopped watching South Park this season. Thanks for the outrage, Spielberg, you reminded me to tune in again.
By the way I’m sure a lot of people lack a sense of humor in Hollywood, but you’d think they would’ve learned not to show it by now. Nobody likes egomaniac dorks, Steven, so just shut up and take the joke: your movies started sucking, so you’re gonna be ridiuled. That’s just how it works.
Wow, Spacesheik, It was really bad, but I gotta say more entertaining than the “Kick the Can” episode of Twilight Zone the Movie, though an appearence by the late, great Scatman Crothers would have boosted Indy to another level.
I might have an odd perspective on this. I’m a huge South Park fan and I have no problem with the joke that Lucas and Speilburg “raped” Indiana Jones. But I sure as hell got tired of the repetitive and cringe-worthy 3 seperate rape scenes. It’s not funnier the second or third time.
The plot about Chinaphobia was excellent and hilarious. If you think it’s racist you didn’t watch the whole show. It’s making fun of how a bunch of people are scared of China now (just like they got scared of Japan 20 years ago). China is still weak compared to us and if they caught up in 20 or 30 years, so be it. We can’t act shocked a terrified at every hypothetical, potential challenge.
So Lucas put forth a bad cash in movie.
The useless South Park no talents don’t have the ability to parody it, so they do this vicious garbage.
These pigs support GEORGE BUSH, for God’s sake. They are lucky morons.
I recently read about a study that showed an inordinate percentage of people (can’t remember the number)don’t have the capacity to understand sarcasm or irony. These are the people who view an episode like this and think it is racist. They take stories at face value and don’t have the ability to read between the lines, to analyze even at the most basic level for what the writer is really trying to say. I agree that Trey and Matt are practically lone voices out there–and sure, they step on my toes sometimes, but if I watch long enough, they step on everyone else’s too, and when they are equal opportunity offenders like that, it is really hard to take any of their offensiveness personally. I just enjoy it all and laugh my ass off. They are masters at illustrating the absurd with absurdity. And if you don’t get that, you probably should be watching CSI.
I gave props for Indy 4’s gross and happy for all involved BUT i am SO glad i didnt see it. Too many who liked the movie seemed to make accuses for it. It just didt have the draw for me. maybe i am too biased for the 1st 3 movies. oh well.
also, Speilbg & Lucas should just ignore the show. I dont even care for South Park but what they do is what they do. but if the show’s creators were big fans of the 1st three Indy movies I can understand why they are mad and they used the only outlet they had. eventually what they do will come back to haunt them too, just like Speilbg & Lucas.
What is wrong with this episode? Its 100% true.
Aliens don’t belong in an Indy movie.
Indy was raped by his makers.
The chinese have every intent of taking over the world.
Bank on it. Start learning the chinese language now USA.
(Duplicate post detected??? Well post the fucking first one then!!!)
From what I understand Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, The Majestic) wrote the original script for Indy 4. Speilberg and Ford were happy but Lucas vetoed it.
Speilberg’s still got it. Just look at the more recent Munich and Minority Report. Lucas has now ruined Star Wars and Indiana Jones. He needs to give it up.
If you were really offended by that you need to loosen up. Watch “Scott Tenorman Must Die,” from one of the earlier seasons- 10x more offensive (and equally hysterical).
Making fun of these guys is easy…but if they only had the balls to actually show that image of Muhammad a few years back…then I’d be a fan!
Parker and Stone are national treasures.
I know exactly how Stan feels. It’s the same way that I felt when the PC Hollywood liberal elites ass raped James Bond.
My childhood idol was defiled by the new castrati leftists.
Such consensus on the divinity of Trey and Matt constitutes conformity at it’s lowest level. Echo chamber in here.
In reality, this string of comments is such 18-30 year-old testosterone induced acid reflux, it is hard to imagine you ever seeing the cesspool created by your regurgitated “sophisticate” slop.
Great. The Aristocrats goes mainstream, and we have nothing left to satire. Dung succumbs to diminishing returns, and leaves us blank, banal, and squirming in our own sartorial saliva.
Trey and Matt are to comedy what Saw I, II, III, IV, and V are to Lawrence of Arabia or Citizen Kane.
Trey and Matt foul the air and your nostrils inhale perfume. The sycophants suck-up the satire like a vacuum hoovering up rover’s vomit.
It is here you all drink your own bathwater and delcare it vintage.
Wake up! The South Park emperors have no cloths, just rancid old undies, retreaded endlessly with patchwork skidmark coverings.
I can’t wait for the fodder flung at this post. You’re so predictable…lemmings really. And smelly one at that.
I saw it and it was GREAT!
No, not that new Indiana Jones crap. I watched that garbage twice because I actually blamed myself the first time. I thought that I must have been in the wrong mood or something to actually think it was such a turd. So I paid to see it again. And I wasn’t wrong. It was SO awful! But the China Probrem?
Cutting Edge South Park as always. Pale wannabees like Family Guy get their “controversy” using four letter words or such like-minded dross (Yawn), but that is merely posturing. Stone and Parker court controversy for content: their very ideas are incendiary.
Go Cows!
Hail South Park!!
This episode was my EXACT feelings regarding not just Indy 4, but every Star Wars Prequel as well, manifest for all to see! I’m glad to see I’m not alone in being absolutely disgusted with what seems to be Lucas’ mission to destroy everything I’ve loved as a child. And sorry Steven, but you’ve been on a slippery slope since War of the Worlds.
This episode needs to be seen, and its message NEEDS to be heard.
Oh yeah, and the Cartman bit was funny too.
It seems the harder Lucas and Speilberg try, the worse they do.
Speilberg hasn’t made anything good since “Schindler’s List” and Lucas hasn’t made anything good since “Star Wars” back in ‘77. (I give Kershner full credit for ‘Empire’, not Lucas)
South Park tried once before to help these guys feel the pulse of their fans, but they just didn’t get it. (or care)
After reading about the ‘rapes’, I thought they were tasteless and went too far. After watching them, I thought they were tasteless – and funny as hell.
This is simply…hilarious!!!
Well I couldn’t help it but I laughed so hard that i almost broke my ribs. really not funny to alot of people. But that is sick humor but funny to me.
“Why Do sanctimonious Pricks always inappropriately capitalize Their words during Their Inane family-First blog Comments?”
Because they spend much of their precious Time talking about their love for “Him”?
This is from the same network that censored Muhammad.
What should we expect?
It was even handed at the end of the episode Butters said he didnt know what the big deal was he liked the movie. Butters Rules!
Shooting people in the penis is just weak.
I love the outrage when this type of “humor” is directed back at one or more of the liberal elite. It suddenly becomes tasteless – oh, the hypocrisy!
I could care less one way or the other. The only objection that I would bring up is: If the person being raped was a female there would have been no stopping the comments about how could we make fun of a rape. Yet, because it was a male somehow it is funny.
Just my two cents worth.
Anyone who justifies SP’s violent and crude episodes is sick. I wouldn’t want to walk down the street next to anyone who thinks or talks like them. Sick, and antisocial. Please find something else to laugh at. Will you be laughing at a real rape next?
I have not seen Indy4, I was spared the pain, I was 20 when I saw the first indy and still have the dorky stetson fedora. I wanted to see the movie when it comes out on DVD but now, I think I will skip this also. Thank you South Park, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The scene where Indy got raped on the Howard the Duck pinball machine, I laughed so hard I started to choke. Keep up the good work in making us look at hard issue in a funny way.
Nice… thanks… 20-some minutes of my life I will never get back after watching such crap. South Park’s 15 minutes of fame were over in the late 90s. Go away already.
i won’t let my kids watch s. park anymore…..THAT’S IT…DONE…OVER !
Gosh, I would never have known Indiana Jones 4 (a film I have not seen) was about to come out on DVD, were it not for the controversy over this hilarious episode of South Park occurring quite coincidentally just days before. Now I may have to get the DVD just to see how bad it is. No such a thing as bad publicity?
South Park is utter garbage and only morons watch this nonsense!!!
This country is run by a bunch of shut-ins. That episode was funny as hell. I hope they rape some more people on south park and laugh more. They should of added in a reach around too, hahahaha.
It as absolutely genius. M&T are my idols. ::kiss:: <3 MB
The attacks on Lucas in the episode were right on, it was the rest of the episode that was off-base.
People aren’t scared of the Chinese people as a race of people. They are scared of 1.3 billion communists who make all of our goods, control a majority of our debt, and are attempting to control our information.
The Chinese government does not allow freedom of speech, religion, or political beliefs and they’re gaining more control over the world.
I wish Trey and Matt had thought that one out a bit more.
Long live South Park and Eric Cartman!
South Park fucking blows. I’ve thought that since it started and I can’t believe this idiotic show is still on the air. Shows like this are why America is getting dumber and more people are being diagnosed with ADD. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the ones who deserve to be raped. May they die a most excruciating death.
I went with my brother to see Indy 4. It was a big night out, we had to go in to the city, eat out.
It was horrible. That movie ruined our whole night.
And it was rape in a way because the reviewers said the movie was OK (some of them) even though that film was just unwatchable. It was just the same scene over and over. It had none of the creativity of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
And what Spielberg did to E.T., replacing the guns with walkie-talkies, and Lucas ruining Star Wars with that idiotic CGI – yes, I think they should go to jail for that.
JBOONE, you idiot!
Why were you letting your kids watch this in the first place? Maybe you shouldn’t let them watch porn online anymore too. Perhaps you should get a nanny to take over your parenting duties instead of letting the TV do it. This ep was great. Hacking down sacred cows is what this show is all about. Speilberg deserved it after he changed guns into walkie talkies in the ET re-release. Money has forever changed them and they can no longer identify with their audience. The new Indy and Eps 1-3 of SW? It’s ok to not make movies after you’re done some of the best EVER.
Haha, I never expected to see THREE graphic rape scenes in one 20-minute, animated episode on TV! I’m glad the MPAA doesn’t police the TV, or it might’ve tried to saddle that episode (and maybe a few others!) with an NC-17, like it did the movie.
I sort of wish, though, that this episode had been broken into two, because the Spielberg&Lucas-rape-Indy plot and the Chinese plot didn’t go well together.
P.S. In fact, if you count the rape of the storm trooper at the end, that makes FOUR rapes in one 20-minute episode! Is that a record?
The episode was hilarious.
Sorry it had to be said in the first place I guess.
I’m a total Spielberg fan too. It is very sad.
Hey, Nikki
Well, if u think this episode was too brazen then u should check out the one on “the cripple fight” or the one when the cops try and frame “all rich black people” because they’re jealous, and there’s plenty of others. Bottom line, South Park is the best show on t.v. U probably out to just stick with “Dancin with the Stars” or whatever idiotic garbage ur used to watching and leave satire and humor to the talented.Unbelievable
Um. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are creative geniuses, and Parker and Stone aren’t a pimple on their butts. They need to apologize for having slandered both of these two giants, and voluntarily pull their show off the air as pennance. And anyone at Comedy Central who was involved in allowing this show to air should also be fired and barred from the entertainment industry.
Tyg
LONG LIVE SOUTH PARK
I have not seen this episode of South Park and I will not see it. Lucas and Spielberg don’t deserve it. Indy 4 is an excellent movie (for people who can understand movies!): not only the script, but also the music, the art direction, the editing, the visual effects (except the monkeys) …
For that, Parker and Stone suck!
Spielberg has changed guns into walkie talkies in the ET re-release. So where is the problem? Have you ever seen police chasing children who had done nothing bad with their guns? not me…
Perhaps they should also have portrayed Karen Allen being raped. Wouldn’t that have been funny?
What? No?
Some rape is funny but some isn’t?
I bet a million dollars all the people supporting this “joke” also vote for “values” on election day.
What a bizarre country. Get me out of here.
I hate indiana jones. It’s racist to begin with. They deserved it. Indiana jones was the most racist movie series. Good riddens now go after the kkk.
I missed that episode, man that looks funny. Good publicity for the DVD that’s coming out this Tuesday.
Herro prease
I though the metaphore of Indiana Jones getting rape was good, but I think all of the rape scence were over done. One would have been enough. Raping the Storm Trooper at the end was hilarious.
Plus for the China thing, every one knows Cartman is racist and none of the other characters takes in seriously, but he can do a lot of damage.
you people dont get it do you? Its a funny show. Indy 4 was a terrible movie that ruined the series. Cartman is a racist who hates everyone, not just chinese. The show wasnt being racist. It was making fun of the ignorant Americans who are afraid of Chinese. It was a great primere for a great show. The reason that south park has survived for so long is that they make episodes like this. They dont care what a bunch of morons with no sense of humor think. They just do what they think is funny and that is funny for people who are smart but arent obsessed with themselves or their religion or race.
Wait, doesn’t Viacom own Comedy Central? What are they going to do, make their own company pay a fine to their other company? In a way by doing this they are able to make money twice off the people duped into seeing Indiana Jones get raped by Lucas and Spielberg. Oh giant media conglomerates how silly you are.
Let’s face it, Lucas’ time was over with “Attack of the Clones”. He managed to change Star Wars not only into superhero action flicks (emphasis on special effects), but also into cartoons themselves (hence “Clone Wars”). Why should we expect anything different with his latest Indiana Jones movie?
When will they stop Lucas from having anything to do with the creative developement of a film? He will gleefully rape and pillage his own legacy for one more dime of licensing money. The man has destroyed Indy and Star Wars, maybe Speilberg will let him butcher E.T. as well, that way all the fond memories of the films I loved as a child can be ruined.
Indy movie was for kids and they loved it. South Park is for idiots and thats who watches it. So keep smoking your dope and wasting your life being brain washed. We would have a riot on our hands if it would have been Obama dresed as a muslim being raped. Wake up America!!!! Get your head out your butt.
Since when is rape in any way shape or form funny ?
First things first, rape is funny when its George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are rapping the shit out of Indiana Jones. That’s funny. And as for Nessa’s comment about South Park viewers being a bunch of dope smokers and Indiana Jones being a kids film. Watch Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and try and show your kids the scene where a man gets his still beating heart ripped from his chest. Indiana Jones is not a kid’s movie. As for the issue at hand, Indy 4 wasn’t as big of a piece of shit as everyone is making it out to be. Its a decent movie by itself but, when compared to the others,it is fucking awful. Matt, Trey, and the rest of the writers for South Park were most definatly right about Indy’s reputation being savagley rapped over and over again. Plus, you can’t say that the pinball table rape scene when George Lucas busts his load inside of Indy isn’t, quite possibly, one of the funniest and most well shot scenes in South Park history. If you do, you don’t have a sense of humor or a soul.
South Park rules! Thank God someone has the balls to say what everyone was thinking. Lucas and Spielberg are has-beens. Lucas has ruined every Star Wars movie following Empire. Spielberg and Lucas lampooned their own character that was originally sold as the “James Bond of archeology.” The movies following Raiders were no where near as good, but Indy 4 was a tragedy of narrative and character. Let’s see Indy 5, but with Christopher Nolan at the helm.
Indie 4 rules! South Park suck! Really suck. I see the first 3 seasons of South Park in the past and getting bored of all the sh*t in that dumb*ss series. South is the more retarded tv serie of all time! Hope to get rid of that.
George Carlin once said (paraphrase), “If you don’t think rape can be funny, imagine Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd.” It’s the context, people and some of you, including Nikki, are blowing it out of proportion.
That episode was hysterical. And Indy 4 sucked ass.
SOUTH PARK sucks. TV should be cleaned up. If the studios, networks and channels won’t do it, then the people should rise up and force their local and state governments to do it — they take our money for everything else, maybe now they can take our money to protect children from filth like SOUTH PARK.
By the way, I loved INDY 4. For once, Indiana Jones was fighting a bigger evil — the Russian Commies. It’s about time Hollywood starting exposing the Commies for what they were; they should do it more often.
Also, I don’t find rape to be a joking matter. The SOUTH PARK idiots should clean up their act; they are clever enough without resorting to obscenity and things like mocking Jesus Christ.
crystal skull was fucking awful.. the south park episode wasn’t particularly funny, mostly because spielberg and lucas really did rape indy and are probably planning on doing so again.. crystal skull was really hard to watch, and they really did destroy the franchise..
I actually saw this movie THREE times. And I was seriously experiencing the exact form of denial that the characters in the cartoon did – the post-traumatic rape sort of denial. My first viewing was dubbed in Italian, in Milan early this summer. I convinced myself that the problem was my mediocre Italian, and that the movie couldn’t have possibly sucked as much as it seemed. Saw it again in French in Toulon in July. I speak french much better, and understood everything. I convinced myself that missing the original characters voices was throwing everything off – it couldnt POSSIBLY be that awful. Finally came to grips with things when I saw it for the third time in New Hampshire in August. I was like the abuse victim who just keeps coming back for more… so very very pointless and stupid a movie indeed…
I didn’t think “Indy 4″ was that bad, but I wasn’t part of the target demographic that grew up on “Raiders”, but rather “Temple” and the lame “Crusade” (which essentially rehashes the good stuff from “Raiders” with too much comedy). I enjoyed “Indy 4″ myself, but I can see why many people hate it (the CGI, the ’50s timeframe, etc.).
As for the episode, well it was more disturbing than funny. “South Park” for me is hit-or-miss, when they skew famous celebs/pop culture right it’s downright hilarious (the Scientology episode) but when they don’t, they just seem to be out there for the sake of controversy.
Rape is not cool
and not to be trifled with
the indy movie wasnt all that bad, had many good elements: cinematography, scoring, sound efx, special effects, acting, even directing. Yes it had a more phony feel but not as boxed in as The Temple of Doom
lets face it Indy is not going to be young forever, and perhaps Shia LeBeouf (apologies, spellin, see mark twain)
will be the next indy.
First off, I would like to say that Stone and Parker are comedy gods. Their ability to keep me laughing since season one is incredible. Lucas and spielburg did an ok job with Indy 4, but thats about all I can say… For me it was a one time watcher that left me somewhat disapointed, but glad I watched it. To go as far as saying they “raped” Indy, I would say could be easily said. When you place Indy 4 next to the last 3, it is plain and simple just not as good. Now as far as the “China Probrem” Episode, I would not stop laughing. The way Cartman depicts the Chinese is hilarious, and should not be “offensive”, its just satire, does Family Guy not use insane amounts of “racist comments? Although family guy with its less thought out writting takes very little to understand, they still use some of the same “racist” critical remarks, that is all in all good fun.
Anyway, keep it up Matt and Trey. I love your great writting, and the message you send across with each eppisode. 2 thumbs up on both of these fine episodes.
Matt and Trey seem to have missed a very important point:
Harrison Ford WANTED to do Indy 4. They didn’t force him into anything.
As someone who hated the prequels, I was shocked at how much I loved Indy 4. That being said, I really thought this episode was funny. In a stale, childish, far-from-the-pulse-and-straight-up-their-own-ass kind of way, but that’s just Matt and Trey.
They’ve become these out of touch conservatives who prey on the egotism of their fanbase by acting like the bitchy girl in a cheerleader movie and calling it wit. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s boring. This time it was funny, but joking about rape is asking to upset people.
And if Matt and Trey don’t care who their show upsets or entertains — feeling no obligation to their fans whatsoever and just making the kind of programming that THEY want to make — why can’t Lucus and Spielberg do the same?
South Park is garbage and should be taken off the air. Rape is not funny in any kind of way.
South Park is a great show. Irrelevant and really fun.
it’s all Simpsons stopped to be.
-
indy 4 was not a great indy movie. Not bad like some people tell.
for me it was not good like the first and third movie. It was just correct. it was the one too much indy movie. There are no more ideas.
so, it’s why so many old fans reminding their young years as kid think Spielberg and Lucas raped the character (not the actor, the character).
of course it’s not cool and south park make a mission to deride all of this, to mock and be the most obvious, crazy and be as much as controversy than possible. It’s why SP is a so great show.
And still, never they said anything unmoral. Bad people and liars are all beaten in the SP world, and Cartman is always a looser with his friends angry.
–
About indy 4 and star wars prequel :
yes, it was time to tell how blatant exploitation all of this was and SP did that in an exploding way. Indy4 lived too much on the past success.
it’s the same but with more violence in the starwars prequel. Only the third movie can , sometimes, remind why starwars was great movies. But for the most part, they are full of bad actors moment, gratuitous characters and bad directing. It was just more about exploitation than to do a great fun movie for people. and I’m not convinced kids liked them entirely.
-
so yeah, old fans are angry and SP is telling that.
People assume that because it’s funny and offensive, it’s fine. Cartman’s depictions of Chinese were just that, so why not laugh? Reason – it creates disrespect.
Idiots looking for a cheap laugh are the ones watching the show (btw, I saw it because a “friend” recommended it to me). The likely aftermath is that it reinforces the non-Chinese audience’s(which would be the vast majority) stereotyping of Chinese, which can only continue with them bullying them with such taunts.
Imagine a show where for half an hour every white man depicted was a paedophile. That’s funny to me – but oh, surely that’s racist?
no surprise they hate on everyone… but everyone gets roasted with a grain of salt , it’s kind of like yeah I made it .. so what. If you watch it be prepared to be insulted
