SIGH… and the process of turning my childhood into money marches on. Surely Stan Lee will do an occasional walk-on a la Mel Brooks in The Producers.
Still no word on who’s playing the Black Widow for Iron Man 2? Is Emily Blunt still in or out?
And when the superhero market crashes half of this shit will never get made.
Kenneth Branagh is going to direct “Thor”? Why, was Anson Williams not available? After that fiasco known as “Frankenstein”, I would have thought he wouldn’t direct a big-budget film again. Boy, how quickly Hollywood forgets. And how old am I if I’m bringing up a Potsie Webber reference?
Nikki, you’re making this up.
Please?
I see no concern over saturation.
Spidey on the Great White Way? Uh….here’s a better one. Thor: The Musical! It’ll be a page right out of The Producers and Damn Yankees! A respected British Shakespereian director/actor sells his soul to Satan to put on a Broadway show about a cartoon character.Wackiness, show-stopping dances and memorable Andrew Lloyd Webber-like drivel ensues. Get your tix NOW!
Hasn’t Sony already announced SPIDER-MAN 4 as well?
@cadavra:
Just because Broadway is hosting the SPIDER-MAN musical doesn’t mean Sony won’t have Spidey 4 in pre-production/filming by 2010 at the same time.
And Marvel needs to figure out a better gameplan — if things get even worse for IM-2 the end result will smack of a rush job. Didn’t help matters when Marvel tried to screw Favreau out of a pay raise for the sequel scant months after IM hit it big in theaters.
Sit on it, JD. HULK on Broadway, now that’s a money maker.
Did anyone write these “self-produced feature films”? They only seem to have directors and actors.
Marvel has truly cornered the market for this genre – go get ‘em DC! But as far as big tentpoles go, the superhero subgenre seems to make the most sense right now. And much like horror, no one seems sick of it yet. Waiting for ANTMAN is making me soooo! laugh…
As much as i love spidey, i will never get used to the idea of seeing him on broadway in a musical. Also, i want to know how they’ll do the web-slinging.
As long as there are 14-21 year old males in the world the supposed ’superhero genre’ will never crash! Especially considering this demographic has always been responsible for about 75% of all action film ticket sales. By the way the ’superhero genre’ is just another take on a time-old hero formula that has always had a place at the box office since the talkies began, and will most likely never go away.
@Irving Thalberg’s Ghost
wtf are you talking about? An actual reference to Julie Taymor’s sensibilities, or your own version of Julie Taymor’s sensibilities?
