I'm told that financier and producer Media Rights Capital has canceled two of the four shows it put on The CW after being given the rare opportunity to program a network's Sunday nights. Both Valentine and Easy Money had been put on hiatus with skeleton crews while more scripts were written.
Now both series are on permanent hiatus, which is a nicer way of saying they've been cancelled. MRC still has authority to program Sunday nights on The CW for the entire 2008-2009 season so it'll be choosing two replacement shows right away.

People seem to have liked ‘Easy Money’ but ‘Valentine’ was terrible.
cw might as well lend reaper to mrc’s sunday nights, then pair it with f.a.t. city.
You heard it here first, Media Rights Captial will go 0 for 4 and die. I do understand that the failure rate is high in TV, but that same rate should allow for some programming to stick. Outsourcing the rights to program a full night of TV is ok, but those shows have to be treated like all other shows on the same network. . . even if the end product of the outsourced timeslot is bad.
‘Valentine’ was obviously aimed at women, but with a lot of bikinis probably to keep their boyfriends watching.
But the show was stupid.
Now ‘Easy Money’ was a truly bizarre idea. The show’s “heroes” were the people of a payday loan company.
Now what kind of idiot thought people would applaud the actions of bill collectors?
Valentine was the best new show this season they should give it more of a chance it’s MRC’s best CW show anyway (ratings wise)
Has anyone actually seen the shows scheduled for Sunday night by MRC…?!!?
I mean, come on people, who in the hell would want to watch any of those shows that look like they were made for $100 and with a cast right out of the local Starbucks, and script and show ideas from Harold the local transient.
Either MRC is completely mentally disabled or someone is pocketing some cash.
What a scam.
An ounce of marketing and promotion is worth a pound of viewers… no wonder no one tuned in.
This was a good idea in theory, but was horribly executed. The shows didn’t fit the CW brand and received almost no promotion whatsoever. Plus, CW was outsourcing the night because they’d had no luck there at all. Why did MRC think they would fair better?
Mrs. Garrett is right. If promotion was the only problem, and I believe it was, MRC has the right to sue the CW, CBS, and Time Warner for underpromoting the shows. Of course there is plenty of blame to go around, but these shows should have been delayed until midseason if CW wanted them to have the chance at success. Movies could have easily aired Sundays in primetime until the shows premiered, while critics got tapes of the premiere episodes of each show.
So what if the Sunday night shows don’t fit the “CW Brand”? The Thursday Night shows don’t fit the brand either.
CW sucks. Has pretty much since it started. The only things worth looking at on that network is Next top model (because come-on! how hilarious is that show?!) and Supernatural (because come-on! just watch it for five minutes and guh! I don’t care how old you are – let your inner cougar reign!)
WB needs to cut its losses with that loser network.
the shows were a terrible fit for the CW to begin with. valentine was just plain bad (not even close to the “so bad it’s good”). easy money would’ve worked so much better on cable as it would’ve allowed it go to where it should’ve gone to make the show sparkle; you can’t do a half-assed effort for a show about a family of loan sharks.
They’re going to regret ending their contract for Smackdown when their average primetime rating drops by 20% or so when the ratings for this season come in.
Let this network die already.
I know it’s pointless to argue here, but the claims that Valentine “was just plain bad” and “stupid” and had “show ideas from Harold the local transient” are not facts or gospel truths, but just your opinions. My wife and I have four advanced degrees between us, so I think it’s safe to say that Valentine is not “stupid.” (Our previous favorite show was “Journeyman,” which had an incredibly devoted fan base and, if anything, was too sophisticated for network TV.) The combination of the sweet romances-of-the-week and the inner struggles of the Greek gods was unusual and clever. We enjoyed the show and will miss it.
“Journeyman… was too sophisticated for network TV”… and… “The combination of the sweet romances-of-the-week and the inner struggles of the Greek gods was unusual and clever.”
Now, that’s comedy.
I find of thought Valentine was a decent show. I personally think that Everwood, Joey, Freddie and other Warner Bros shows should have been given on chance. The CW Sunday suck ass anyway and then they cancelled Reba and Veronica mars. I think they should Show a movie for the easy view block and then show Classic Smallville and Classic One Tree Hill.
The CW is dead and Warner Bros should dissolve the partnership and make The WB a Television network again. The WB.com just isn’t the same.
