On its first airing, the Peter Berg-produced Trauma drew just 6.9 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in the key 18-49 category. On the bright side, Trauma did build on its lackluster Heroes lead-in. Also, the reviews were disappointing, a backlash came from the Emergency Medical Services community, and a hefty pricetag made it one of NBC's most expensive new fall series. It's been so much on the bubble since its debut that it was declared DOA by blogs (who claimed NBC had decided not to order any more episodes of the medical drama to make room for the return of Chuck to Monday nights next year.) But I've learned that NBC has told the show this week the network not only will produce all 13 episodes from its current order but also order more. What helped to earn a pickup? A recent ratings rise.

I Find Trauma Excellant and if NBC Cancells there making a mistake
Trauma was one of two shows on NBC I have considered worth watching. They could have picked a better slot for it. NBC apparently is in total chaos. Maybe Fox could pick it up?

Let’s face it. The knuckleheads who oversee network televsion have lowered their “standards” so far over past few years that it’s easier to pick up a poor performing show then try to figure out what to replace it with. NBC is just throwing in the towel early this season in hopes that someone…amyone will figure out what the hell to do for 2010-11.

I am sorry if they cancel this show it will infact give proof that NBC is hiring Monkeys to select shows. Sorry NBC is always playing the same thing over and over, look at LAw and Order not only did they keep the orignal show but they picked up Law & Order SV,CI, etc. Maybe NBC should give this show a little time to pick up some die hard fans like me. I love a little action with my drama. As for the other shows they have already been done to death. Get some balls NBC!!!

Mercy is just another Grey’s Anatomy…only on a different network. Trauma on the other hand is exciting. I don’t care if I’m the only one that thinks that, but it is a breath of fresh air. To be able to see what happens before the patients roll into the ER is exciting. I am tired of the ER crap. We all know by now what happens in an ER thanks to ER. Trauma gives viewers a chance to see the people who risk their lives to save ours. All I am going to say is that Jay Leno needs to be cancelled to allow good shows a chance to be seen.
oh ya you got it without paramedicts and emt’s most people would be dead in the street. I think every person should do a ride-along with there local E.M.S. dept. and see first hand what realy goes on and see what people realy look like before they get to the E.R.
I totally agree. Me and my husband actually found a show that we both like that we can watch together. And, you are right. It’s new and DIFFERENT!!! Not like the normal ER/hospital show! It actually keeps your attention and I like the personal aspects also… I think they should give it one more season! After all, they sure don’t advertise it like they did MERCY… Maybe if they did there would have been more viewers.

I liked it better when it was called ER. There’s a reason why these shows don’t succeed, its a tired old format.
It’s so bad it’s good. I think the recent ratings rise is an ironic viewership that figured it would die soon, may as well watch it go down. Like me. Really terrible show.

But let’s call some other NBC guilty parties out. Without naming names Trauma was “developed” by the same exec who has been the current exec on “Heroes” since its massive creative collapse.
The middle management execs at the network/studio are giving the notes and making a lot of hiring decisions — it’s their fault even moreso than, say, Angela Bromstead or Laura Lancaster’s.
Dear NBC/UMS: Stop kissing Pete Berg’s ass. Yes, he’s best friends with Ari Emmanuel, but sucking up to PB has cost the company tens of millions and counting. He’s a nice fun guy and makes OK films but his TV work will NEVER save the network.
Even Chris Levinson/Dick Wolfe’s busted pilot “Lost and Found” would have done better on Monday than this crap. And that was AWFUL!!!

I don’t what you’re smoking but Trauma has not seen a real rise in the ratings (unless you could an increase of a tenth for two weeks which hardly counts as rise in my book). Also Trauma has NEVER ever built on its Heroes lead-in.
A18-49 Rtgs history for Trauma: 2.2 > 1.8 > 1.8 > 1.8 > 1.9 > 1.9 > 1.8 > 1.8 (it averages a 1.9 for the season to date). As for Heroes its A18-49 performance this season has been: 2.8 > 2.5 > 2.4 > 2.4 > 2.5 > 2.5 > 2.5 > 2.3 > 2.2 (Heroes averages a 2.5 so far this season).
I don’t know who is doing NBC’s research but they are feeding you bad information. I think this is more about NBC wanting to be in business with Peter Berg.
Any network that’d cancel Southland and keep Trauma is out of its mind…or, they now realize that Leno has failed completely and need to fortify a base of programs that can be moved into the 10 p.m. slot on short notice. I’m going with B.
Really enjoy this show.
Got off to a rough start and is in a VERY competitive time slot…not to mention it premiered a week after the other shows in its slot which certainly didn’t help it out.
But it’s really found its way…hit its stride a few weeks ago.
Once DWTS is over, it’ll see a bigger rise in viewers.
Great news! The show is learning from its mistakes and is definitely getting better each week. This week’s episode in particular had that perfect mix of shock and awe and the nice story of the elderly sisters. More of that heart please to balance the explosions and Trauma should be fine.
I’m happy to see this programme will not be thrown away like so many others have been done this year.
A big thank you to NBC! I thought I would have to give up on the network altogether after the Southland debacle then them subsequently canceling Trauma (the only show on the network with potential to actually become something!). But now I see that’s not the case. Welcome back to my television screen NBC. I hope you get to stay.

Heroes and Trauma are terrible shows…Cut them off and replace for Chuck…
“TRAUMA” is one of my favorites of the new season. I am happy that NBC has decided to renew and extend this show. The special effectrs are great and I have not missed an episode since the show debuted. I like the actors and the story lines. I should note that Peter Berg is also the producer of another of my favorite -”Friday Night Lights”which I have to wait for until it finishes its season on Directv. It has been on the bubble until Directv picked it up. I also am addicted to “Mercy” which i have as my “must see” shows.
I am so glad to have a DVR to record my shows.
Thanks NBC, this show has great character and enough action to keep my boys interested. Good family show with a little edge. Show like this need time to develope. Remember, not every show has to be ER or Grey’s Anatomy.

I finally wrote a letter to a company that was taken seriously. Thank you NBC! My boyfriend and I look forward to Trauma every week and are extremely pleased you are ordering more episodes for all of your loyal fans. One of the reasons we like it so much is because we love the San Francisco views! We love every character because there is so much diversity and like them even more as we get to know them. We also think it’s responsible for making people think twice about some of the choices they make – like keeping your eyes on the road when you’re driving! Not playing pranks on Halloween & so much more. Also,we love Rabbit! I love him more than my boyfriend, but he doesn’t know that…We love all of the actors, actually! Nancy is really easy to love too. The ambulance driver is great too! Thanks NBC! We can’t thank you enough!

I must admit I couldn’t wait for the first show to air and when it did, I hated it! One of my friends told me to give it one more try. I’ve watched five episodes online in the last twenty four hours and now I can’t wait wait to see the next episode this Monday. This is a great show, I’m glad I gave it a chance. I understand NBC’s decision…Way to go!

I very much like the premise of the show and glad NBC is giving it another shot. The writing needs work but given the show has gotten better over time I think they realize that. Seinfeld was blah in the beginning (having watched it at that time) and clearly got better. While the shows aren’t the same, I’m only pointing out that some shows can be fixed to be very enjoyable and I think Trauma has the elements to do that. NBC is giving them the chance and now it’s up the writers and producers.
A big thanks to NBC for giving “Trauma” more episodes.
Hope there will be many more.

I love the show, and I am really glad to hear that NBC has decided to keep it for a while longer.
However, all TV networks should reconsider their ratings system. It’s time for a paradigm shift. Many of us are watching programming via alternative media because we like the flexibility of on-demand viewing – watch what you want when you want as often as you want. On-demand viewing makes time slots far less important. Consequently, on-demand viewing changes the ratings game – viewers no longer have to chose between Heroes and House; you can watch both at a time that’s convenient for you.
BTW, I am far more likely to watch 30 seconds of ads than 2 minutes. If there are 2 consecutive minutes of ads, I’ll step away from the TV and do something other than watch the ads. But 30 seconds is not enough time to start something else, so I just endure the ads.
I am thrilled that Trauma did not get canceled. It is a good series with a great cast.
I love this show! The characters are compelling and the acting is excellent. I like how they deal with life and death situations without showing all the bloody gore. We know that this is not a documentary and so it’s not real-life accurate, but it is a VERY GOOD tv show.

Trauma is awesome. NBC did a great job after cancelling ER (sniff sniff-still sad over that one-but hey, it ran it’s course)-w/ Trauma and Mercy. Mercy shows the lifestyles of medical staff and Trauma shows more about the medical side of things. I luv Rabbit on Trauma. He is freaking hot and the kiss w/ him and Nancy-was waiting on that one. Two horndogs made for eachother. Save Trauma. Please NBC don’t quit on them yet.

For the people who don’t like it, you’re probably just used to other quality shows like American Idol and the OC or any version of Paris Hilton type stuff therefore it might be a stretch for you ….bwwahhhahahhahah..!! American TV has gone wayyyy down the crapper in the last 10 because of reality shows and lowered our taste and tolerance for intelligence in the process.
Nevertheless, as a native SFian…I am thrilled to see a show not only filmed in the city but featuring it as an important character and not just supposedly filmed in the city, mentioned here and there.

I am an EMT. Yes there are mistakes made durring the show as far as treatment goes. But it is called creative license and compressed for time. Would you rather watch the correct way to give D-50 or the plot? Also, you do not want to show ALL the gore and taxi rides we do now. The ratings would surely drop. These calls on the show are the glory calls, because they make for better viewing. Let’s be realistic here. There aren’t any shows out there dedicated to the EMS field, so let’s support it and maybe, just maybe, we can get more people involved in this field.
I am also an EMT and yes Trauma did make a little mistakes as far as our protocols are for treatment. but being in situations that they are placed in, we are more focused on keeping that patient alive. plus health systems do provide training that teaches EMT-B and EMT-I about using IV’s and how to insert them into patients.
Plus if you were to see the majority of all the calls we respond to, you wouldn’t have a rating. At least this show made it so much more interesting for viewers to watch and see what we do and how much of a difference we make before the patient gets to the ER.
This show should have more time to get their ratings up and be placed at a better time to where more people can watch it with advertising that the show is airing.
I love this show. The characters are beginning to develop and the scenery and action are great. I love love love Rabbit, he is my favorite character, I’m glad him and Nancy are together. Thank you NBC for not cancelling and giving it a chance, you will not regret it.
As an EMT i was happy to hear that there was finally a show in my generation that gave light to the heros out there who don’t always get the credit that sometimes cops and fire dept members get for the same stuff. Don’t get me wrong, without the FD and PD we wouldn’t be able to do have the stuff we do, but never does anyone acknowledge the stress EMT’s and Medics experience when a life is left in their hands. This show at first seemed to be too much to handle but it toned down its excessive over-exaggeration of the job at times, but its also TV and we have to keep that in mind. I love the show and watch it every week and i could say the same for many EMT’s in my area, who like me, at first were like this is so not realistic, but it has great stories tied to it, and there is always a need for a medical show. KEEP IT UP, AND KEEP IT ALIVE! i love this show and ii feel like people just have to stop being so critical about it and just enjoy it!
Great to hear that Trauma hasn’t been cancelled after all. I heard this show is really expensive to make, but I (and many others) think it’s worth it. Maybe they can find some cost saving measures without cancelling the whole show. It is very entertaining and fun to watch. KEEP TRAUMA ALIVE!!

I love Trauma and I hope others will figure out it’s a great show. I have no use for talk shows and reality shows… this ensemble cast makes Mondays exciting. May it run 10 years like ER.
As an EMT, I’m also glad they kept the show. I was going to be done with NBC if this were cancelled (nothing left to watch). I wish the paragods at JEMS would realize this is TV, not a documentary. If they really televised what medics do most of the time, it wouldn’t have been picked up at all (sleep, drink coffee, eat, go on an occasional routine call, sleep, watch netflix movies while eating and drinking more coffee). If this show brings in a few good ones to a field hurting to bring in those who are looking at quality patient care and very little money, great. If not, fine, it’s TV folks! My EMT Husband and I sit and critique it and discuss the “what ifs” during commercials.

Trauma is an amazing show. its very different show from your typical show where its about a family comedy that just has drama, or talk shows. Trauma takes you out into the EMS world and keeps you wondering whats going to happen next unlike those other ones where you already know whats going to happen. I love this show and hope it last for many years!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I am on the soap box, as a black box user, that means: no cable, no dish network, no satellite, the pickings are pretty slim if and when you get a signal, and Trauma is just the best of the best.
Why do we need to see 25 football games a week? Why do we care who thinks they can dance? And why should anybody want to watch survivors who act more like gang bangers with bamboo sticks? Come on, people, who writes these program line-ups?

I certainly hope that Trauma continues. I agree with the other EMT’s here, that while the show may be unrealistic at times, I still very much enjoy the show. ER was the same way, as is any dramatic series (I am sure that detectives and trail lawyers are exactly as pictured on Law and Order!). I am able to look past these ‘errors’ as they have nothing to do with the qaulity of the show, and the average viewer will not know the difference. And the episodes continue to get better. Also, like so many others, I absolutely love the SF scenery. Having visted numerous times, and having desired a job at the SFFD for some time, it is nice to live there an hour at a time on Monday nights. Keep it up NBC!
