Whoa!!! Philippines really is a twilight crazy country…it’s not a surprise anymore if its breaking box office records….
How wonderful. Let’s hope this is the beginning of a upbeat year!
Wow, caramba in Mexico!!! Good to know they go to and love crap film just as we gringos do.
As they say, “aunche la mona se viste de seda…mona se queda.”
(Although the monkey dresses in silk, it’s STILL a monkey.)
es AUNQUE no aunche…
saludos…
yes we love the commercial films, music, books… I meant everything
Really? Is this so shocking, boys?!? Here’s a newsflash regarding New Moon – teenage girls will go see a movie 8 times if they love it, ergo, they have a greater purchase power than teenage boys.
Perhaps if more women were running studios, there would be more films that cater to a female demographic. Here’s the evidence:
Mamma Mia! and The Devil Wears Prada were championed by female movie executives and producers. According to Meryl Streep (the most Oscar- nominated actor in film history, and a woman), “Donna Langley (president of production) was our champion at Universal for ‘Mamma Mia!’ Nobody wanted to make that,” says Streep. “The smart guys banked on ‘Hellboy’ to carry them throughout the year. The ‘Mamma Mia!’ wagon is pulling all those movies that didn’t have any problem getting made. Our budget would have fit in the props budget of ‘Hellboy.’ ”
And what do the “smart” male execs say when films like Mamma Mia!, The Devil Wears Prada, Sex & the City, and let’s go all the way back to Fried Green Tomatoes and A League of the their Own (the highest grossing baseball movie) dominate the box office? “It’s a fluke! It really doesn’t mean anything.”
So, if these films make money, and let’s face it, they do, and $$$$ is the bottom line – WHY AREN’T MORE OF THESE FILMS GETTING MADE!?!? Hmmm – could it possibly be that Hollywood is run by insecure misogynists who feel threatened and emasculated by powerful women?
And here are some more stats – according to Dr. Martha Lauzen’s study, The Celluloid Ceiling:
90% of TV shows are directed by men
91% of the top 250 domestic grossing films are directed by men
This is pathetic and unconscionable.
Dr. Lauzen’s data is conclusive: “In Hollywood there’s this perception that films made by women do not earn as much as films made by men, and that actually is not true. We have done the statistical analysis on box office grosses, comparing films that had women behind the scenes with others. The notion that films made by women don’t earn as much just doesn’t hold up.”
There is NO EXCUSE. And please spare the bullshit excuse that there’s a paucity of talented female directors out there. Really? Kathryn Bigelow kicks all your whiny asses. Enough is enough.
i love this part of what you wrote ‘could it be possible that Hollywood is run by insecure misogynists who feel threatened and emasculated by powerful women?’
this was confirmed when catherine hardwicke was yanked off the twilight gravey train.
I know I contributed to the Australian amount, I have already scene it 4 times and I have plans to go again tomorrow
I loved it, I am so happy it has done so well. I can finally justify to my family and friends my obsession and that the Twilight series is loved all over the world!
Congratulations to Kristen, Robert and Taylor, great job and thank you for keeping it real.
Happiness and good health to the 3 of you, enjoy your time off
Twibots!
I think I’m going to be sick…
wow! congrats are def in order for the wonderful cast <3
CONGRATS NEW MOON CAST!
lol
I contributed to the U.K’s amazing, 4.6 million! cause i loved new moon, im from Northern Ireland and ive seen it twice, and i plan to see it again! it was amazing, the quality was far better than the first one. Chris White did an exceptional job, a lot better than Catherine Hardwick’s documentary styled Twilight movie. being a teenage girl, i love the books and i bought Twilight because of that, however Hardwicks sucked and White’s directing was absolutly unbelievable! he like made the actors better, Kristen Rob and Taylor were actually unbelievable, they didn’t seem amateur they seemed comfortable, and gave a believeable performance. overall new moon was far better than twilight was. the script was better (none of that stupid ad-lipping crap ’spider monkey’ what the hell) the directing like i said was beyond words, and the acting was amazing! well done to all involoved they should be proud. and it has to be said Taylor and Rob, are HOT! Kristen i beautiful, she suits brown eyes
UK ftw!!!!!!! I went to see it on opening night! Loved it!!!! And im going to see it again on friday, with people who i’ve insisted they see it
wooooooooooo go englanddd and newmooooon
Thanks Enough is Enough. You just posted everything I’ve also been saying. Bravo! Not to mention Hollywood was once a domain considered to be jobs for women…
I have seen it for 4 times in Holland!! Soo guess what there are only 16 million people here..!!
Good job New Moon cast!!
LOVE IT.. cannot wait for Eclipse!!
Its trully amazing. I have never seen a less attractive group of females. Now I know what girls must feel about Star Trek fans.
It’s a wonderful movie, and not just teenage girls watch it, the movie was packed with people interested in it. Men, women, little kids. No need to hate.
According to the latest demographics released by the theatres:
80% of movie patrons for NM were women.
This is not a movie that appeals to men, but that’s okay. It doesn’t have to.
I think that the New Moon movie was better than the Twilight movie. The special effects were less cheesy this time around, too.
