CBS, NBC, Fox, MSNBC, BET, TVOne, Univision are all carrying Barack Obama’s half-hour broadcast tonight. ABC is sticking with Pushing Daisies.

Hey! Finally a reason to watch Pushing Daisies!
They should call the Obama Infomercial, THE Anointing OF THE KING.
” Tonight on a very special OBAMA ” ……. Brought to you by Dodge with no commercial interuptions.
Looks like tonight’s a good night to rent a movie!
Thought experiment: a republican candidate breaks his promise to use public funding, raises hundreds of millions online with a purposely-disabled credit authorization system, then spends 7 or 8 times as much as his democratic opponent, including a hugely expensive tv ad buy. Think that would be reported by the big networks?
They’re too busy reporting on Palin’s 150K of clothes (but not the 5 MILLION DOLLARS the DNC spent on Obama’s greek temple coronation).
I can’t wait for this to be over, then we can have 6-12 months of peace before the 2012 race begins in earnest.
“But that’s not all… if you vote in the next ten minutes we will double your tax cuts, that’s right every caller in the next ten minutes can take their tax cuts under the Obama Plan and double them at no extra charge”
Finally, an opportunity to view Sunday’s TIVO’d “Cold Case”. Crimes from the past – how apropros.
Yes, I am most likely voting for a Obama. But the money he is spending on this tonight, I believe is around 2 million per network. 14 million in total. What a waste. You know how many homes you can save for 14 million? This is why McCain and Obama are basically the same. Just pick the lesser of 2 evils and hope the country doesn’t implode in 4 years…..
Is Obama that worried that he failed to use the debates to get his point across?
Good luck to us in the coming years.
Obama should obviously spend every dime he has on trying to win. Anybody who says otherwise – just whining losers. If McCain could have raised money from individuals so that the money exceeded the public financing system (talk about socialism), he would have. I’m getting some good bottles of champagne to celebrate on Tuesday.
It’s 1 million per network, not 2.
If it brings around some unapologetic ignoramuses, I’m down with it. But I’ll be at a concert.
If this ’situation’ helps introduce enough new viewers to keep the brilliant Bryan Fuller producing more Pushing Daisies I’m thrilled. Watching the show is like dipping into a delicious box of high end chocolates. You never know what new delight you’re going to be tasting next, but it never disappoints.
I think this is excessive…if the VP debate scored higher ratings than the Presidential, ones than what makes Obama think that people want to see more of him or McCain.
I will not be watching this repugnant infomercial of overkill and ego.
I am black and I do not support Obama. I’m one of those 10%. Of course I have been ridiculed, insulted and treated like a traitor.
Within the black community, there is so much gloating, preening and chest beating you’d think we’re electing Jesus. This just shows how much my people are hurting.
There are a hundred reasons to vote against Obama but all of them require that we give up the victim mentality and accept citizenship and all of its freedoms and burdens. It’s easier to chant slogans, write poems and hip hop songs about a fictional deliverer.
This is a sad moment in our history. I will not be voting for Obama or McCain. I’m voting for America.
It’s a good idea, but how much can people tolerate? I am pretty curious to see what he has planned though.
But, I do love Pushing Daisies.
I am also glad I am a Canadian… Despite our Sludge for a Prime Minister.
I love all these Republicans whining about this. McCain’s campaign has been a do anything to win at all costs train wreck (from ignoring their crazy supporter’s calls for violence at McCain/Palin rallies, to fueling the smears and lies themselves, and then having the audacity to look at us straight in the eye and say they’re running a clean campaign), but Obama is somehow crazy, selfish, inappropriate for using his funds to get the word out in the way he sees fit?
As someone who has donated $25 a month to Obama since he announced his run, I think he should spend that money any way he and his advisers think he should in order to win.
And, sorry, but that “they’re the same” argument just doesn’t fly, Phil Dale Duckie. I bought that one back when Gore and Bush ran in 2000 and voted for Nadar. I have regretted that vote since and I think most agree there’s a huge difference in what Obama’s and McCain’s priorities will be as president.
Not Surprised, I have many friends who rue the day they cast an idealistic vote for Nader. How different the world would be, minus Nader’s sucking votes away from Gore and the Florida debacle sealing the coffin, nobody will ever know. How devastating the Bush Doctrine has been, oh ye gods, there’s simply no telling because words fail me.
I can’t wait to see this , Obama’s entire campaign has been incredible. I’m dying to see what will happen tonight.
Hey, No Country for Black Man, just curious. You say you’re voting for America. Who ARE you voting for, if you don’t mind? Cynthia McKinney? Just curious. I think she’s pretty good.
A wise idea on ABC’s part considering half the population of the country is sick to death of seeing and hearing Obama and may end up watching the low-rated Pushing Daisies to either make a point (before November 4) or because they simply want to watch something else. This is no different to a studio releasing a rom-com when there are only horror flicks in release. Counter-programming.
Yippie!
I can’t wait for the spectacle that is planned for Chicago in Grant Park election night.
40 years later, the whole world will be watching again.
We won’t have the 6 – 12 months of peace after the election, Joe Melnick, because Joe Biden assured us that America will be “tested” by foreign aggressors due to Obama’s obvious ineptitude and lack of experience. Even the President of France calls his approach to Iran immature. Sigh! It has only begun with no hope in sight!!
You are not alone No Country For Black Man! You are not alone!!
As I read this column I just recieved my 4th ROBO call in the last month slamming Obama. Now he associates with convicted felons. How sad were in this current climate! If I were McCain I wouldn’t want to win this way!
According to the Washington Post, ABC waited so long to make a decision on whether to accept the commercial that they lost out on the opportunity to air it. No counter-programming involved….
Excellent news!! Finally an opportunity for Barack to get his message out without interruptions from McRage and the MILF.
I am voting for McKinney/Clemente.
You can find their addresses on Youtube. Cynthia is a black female Ron Paul.
As much as I love PUSHING DAISIES, I’ll be recording tonight’s episode because I want to see what the Obama campaign does with their expensive half-hour. No matter who you’re voting for, the half-hour is sure to be interesting because the Obama campaign is extraordinarily talented at creating clear messages and consistently staying ON message. That’s an admirable skill and one we need in our country’s leader. We’ve had a guy who can’t communicate very well and that hasn’t worked out so well for us. I’m also curious to see the paid message because I know it won’t be simply a half hour speech. There’s no way this campaign team would do anything that staid and old school. These are people who understand new media and how to use it which means they’ll tell a story and engage the audience.
If Obama was so confident he was going to win next week, why the Victoria Principal style infomercials all over the place?
Just Wondering
You’re an idiot. He’s doing the prime time special because he is doing everything possible to win and not taking anything for granted(and because he’s raised enough money from people like me that he can). And he’s not doing informercials “all over the place” – he’s doing this one long form commercial. I’ve made this same offer on several forums and no one has took me up on it – I’ll bet $500 with anyone on Obama over McCain on Tuesday. If you’re sure of your guy or sceptical of Obama’s chances, put your money down. (We’ll arrange to send the money before the election to a trusted third party to be held in escrow).
I will turn ABC on my television to make sure they get ratings for not airing the infomercial!
You all are just so jealous that you can’t even see the Messiah when he arrives! Woe to you who doubt and cast stones, for the mighty christ-bama will slay you in your sleep! We will spread the wealth and pay our African brothers their reparations by becoming their slaves for a hundred years! Obama Bless all you who believe in the risen lord!
HOORAY FOR PUSHING DAISIES!!! VOTE NADER!!!
The Obamercial was great, I feel like he was talking to me through these people. Let’s vote and elect him on Nov. 4.
I voted for Nader back then and I’m still proud of that vote. Nader didn’t give you Bush — all the idiots who voted for Bush did.
If you are complaining about the 2-3% nationwide Nader got (which by the way is a helluva vote considering how the media ignored him and idiots out there mocked him and those voting for him), you obviously forget that that means the country was pretty much split half and half and neither choice was a good choice.
And here we are again with the people almost split half and half and we’re back to voting of the lesser of two evils.
I’m proud that I didn’t vote for the lesser of two evils back in 2000 and 2004 and I’ll never regret it. I wish I could say the same for today, because that’s the only real choice we have here. And I fear I’m going to live to regret it.
I think it’s appalling that Obama is spending all that money that could go to better use. It’s not like anyone out there hasn’t heard his message over and over and over and over and over. If they aren’t convinced by now, maybe he should look into himself and see why. Ties to the Chicago democratic machine… 100 votes present… ‘but it was legal’… affordable health insurance… not showing up to the WGA picket line… marriage between a man and woman…
By the way, I was listening to CNN talking about Nader’s number in some of the uncertain states. I think it’s amazing since there has been virtually no press given for him.
I hope Pushing Daisies does extrordinarily well. I’d like to know that there are people out there not willing to anoint Obama king and savior. Like the media seems to have already done.
Oh and this doesn’t mean I’m for McCain/Palin, either, who keep digging themselves into a hole every time they open their mouths.
point 1: Pushing for Daisies must be tripping. i can’t believe someone could get behind a garbage show rehashing ally mcbeal tricks 6 years after the fact.
point 2: to nibor and others… if you think that you personally tuning into a different network while the obama special is on will really effect ratings, you should really be posting on a different website. maybe powerline?
Richard, yes let’s talk about all that money Obama has raked in. Remember when he agreed to accept the regular cash for his campaign but then changed his mind when he started getting millions not only from overseas (including the Mid East) but also off unsuspecting people’s credit cards? You lot bitched when McCain lied to buck tooth Letterman when he didn’t want to do his crummy show yet you don’t think Obama lying about his finances (much less his associations with terrorists). No wonder you lot are being referred to as brainless zombies. I keep expecting to see George Romero sitting behind a camera somewhere.
I love the smell of politics in the morning!
Chris Matthews had another orgasm for Obama tonight. This entire 2-year campaign is turning people off and the messiah will learn that you can spend too much and still lose.
We’re all being assured that Senator Obama is winning dramatically, so why does he need this stunt? Obama does seem to lose elections without a scandalized/disqualified opponent. For instance, Congressman Bobby Rush beat Obama like a small child in Chicago. Of course, compared to former Black Panther Rush, Obama IS a small child.
It wasn’t $14 million, it wasn’t $7 million, it was $4 million according to The Independent
does it bother any of obama’s supporters that their “savior of the little guy” will, by the end of this campaign, spend more money than any politician EVER? basically, your “non-politician” politician has OUT-politician everyone. what a bunch of sheep. he gives you a simplistic motto and you all baaaaaaaaaaaaah along.
Just Wondering
Stop bitching about Obama using the campaign reform law that McCain authored. He’s getting money from people like me who regularly give him contributions through credit card authorizations. The claim about unauthorized credit card authorizations is absolutely nonsense. Do you want to take me up on the bet or not – I take Obama, you take McCain, $500 straight up?
“As for ABC’s underdog “Pushing Daisies,” airing on the only major broadcaster not to carry the ad, the counterprogramming still came in fourth place in the adults 18-49 demo. “Daisies” (6.8 million, 2.2) was up by 16% from last week, which isn’t as big of a boost as the network had likely hoped for.” – TheHollywoodReporter.com
Looks like the saps putting on Pushing Daisies didn’t make a dent on Obamas program. Another failure for the Republicans who tried to watch a horrible ABC show.
HAHAAH
Such animousity and thinly veiled sour grapes. It’s not Obama’s fault that McCain’s campaign has imploded. If it were Sarah Palin doing this with her “you betchas” and “we’re gonna git ‘em”s and winks and twitches, some of you would have stopped what you were doing to lick the screen. So, yeah. Allow this man to have his moment. If he DOESN’T win, it won’t be from lack of trying. Many of you McCain followers have called him everything BUT the “N” word (publicly) — socialist, marxist, un-American, Muslim, etc — and none of it has stuck except among those with exceedingly small minds and even smaller character. I didn’t support this guy from the outset, either. He was NOT my pick. But I have taken the time over the past month to try to make an informed choice. I liked McCain ALOT. I was leaning heavily toward him especially just after the convention. And then Sarah Palin started speaking unscripted. The campaign began unraveling, there was in-fighting and comments being made about their opponent that I felt were far below the belt and they have remained there. I listen to Palin and McCain speak at rallies and the crux of their entire speech is peppered with namecalling and innuendos ABOUT Obama, personally. They don’t even TALK about issues anymore. They have spent more time trying to “color” this man by telling me about what they think of him personally, rather than trying to covince me of WHY I should vote for them. It makes me tired. Sarah Palin screams and rants and raves, and I think: this is a woman who took 6 years and fiver universities to get a Jounalism degree and she’s no more articulate than most 13 year olds, she has no foreign policy experience. None. Zilch. No economic experience. No experience with people of other cultures. She’s been holed up in a predominately White state and White towns with minimal contact with African Americans, Latinos, Asians, etc — -all of the things most of us Americans are very familiar. This is a woman who wants to give the Federal government power over women’s bodies because of her own personal beliefs. This is a woman who’s state actally CHARGED rape victims for rape kits used for law enforcement in hospitals after they’ve been violated. This is a woman who would have Roe v Wade reversed not to allow abortion in ANY circumstance including rape and incest. So, yes. As a woman, I am going to the polls next Tuesday, and I am going to vote for Barack Messiah Socialist Marxist Is He A Muslim Anti-American Re-Distributing Hussein Obama and his Black skin and infomercials speeches and Joe Big Mouth Biden. And I it will feel good because making this choice is better than that of McCain-Palin by a long shot at this point in the campaign. Obama plainly states what he stands for, has a very clear understanding of the economy, and understands what it’s like for everyday, middle class Americans (which makes up the vast majority of this country) goes through. Palin has no idea of anything beyond the borders of Alaska. Is this her fault? No. It’s the way it is. She can’t be held accountable for her shortcomings. But I can hold McCain accountable for choosing a candidate who is clearly out of her league to understand and effectively lead this country. My conscience and the needs of my family won’t allow me to put myself into her hands. Won’t do it.
“Looks like the saps putting on Pushing Daisies didn’t make a dent on Obamas program. Another failure for the Republicans who tried to watch a horrible ABC show.”
I just wanted to highlight this part in agreement that Pushing Dasies is a horrible show. I don’t think there’s anything on ABC that I watch on a regular basis since they got rid of MNF.
Richard, keep your stinking paws off my fucking money. It’s bad enough the Messiah intends to grab everything I make. Why don’t you give that money to Obama for his next Victoria Principal infomercial? Though I must say Billy Mayes’ infomercials are less insulting.
First off, Richard, get a life. Second, do any of you truly believe that Obama or McCain will do anything in the next 4 years, you are dreamers? Come on. Obama will not get the majority he needs in the house. As well, this country is so ass backwards, how did Bush win twice. Everyone who votes for Obama and doesn’t think he will raises all taxes is crazy. In Illinois, he raised takes for everyone, even though he ran on the platform that he would not. People make 250K or greater will see an increase in their taxes, but people who make more then 18K/year will too. Suck it up America, we’re going to put him in there. Have fun.
Lesser of two evils, pick a liar. Obama vs. McCain. Pin the tail on the donkeyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
