EXCLUSIVE: If tradition stands, the details of the guest list will be revealed only a few hours before the Obama administration's first state dinner tomorrow. The welcome for India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the biggest social event of the Obama White House. Already the Washington DC press corp is buzzing about the "got-to-be-there" fever. But this first dinner is primarily a thank you to the Obamas' most important political supporters. So I've learned that, among the Hollywood contingent asked to attend, are onetime DreamWorks partners David Geffen, Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg; Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Michael Lynton; and WME Entertainment Agency co-CEO Ari Emanuel.
Spielberg's inclusion is interesting since he was a much ballyhooed Hillary Clinton supporter during the first months of her primary campaign when she looked like a sure thing, then quietly threw his clout behind Obama after he became the clear winner. But, given that the guest of honor is India's highest ranking statesman, Spielberg's new financial relationship with India's giant corporation Reliance more than explains his presence. Geffen was an early Obama backer who publicly took on the Clintons with pointed criticism at the start of the primary season. Katzenberg was one of Obama's earliest supporters, and became a faithful fundraiser. Both he and Geffen were considered Obama's biggest Hollywood bundlers during the campaign.
Lynton was a longtime supporter primarily because of the influence of his wife Jamie whose Chicago family has longtime political connections to the Obamas. Her mother Joanne Alter, the first female Democrat elected in Cook County, talent-spotted Obama in 2003 and convinced her daughter to support him. As a result, Lynton co-hosted an early fundraiser for Obama’s Senate bid in 2004 in addition to hosting one of the earliest Hollywood campaign events for him when most showbiz types were still supporting Hillary. (Will.i.am, who composed the viral video for the Obama campaign anthem “Yes, We Can,” met the candidate during a fundraiser at the Lyntons' home.)
And Chicago native Emanuel not only was one of Obama's first Hollywood political and financial backers, but, like duh, his brother Rahm is the White House chief of staff. They'll join the President and First Lady and 400 guests in an elaborate tent erected on the South Lawn. As for who has been chosen to provide the evening's entertainment, this White House has shown eclectic taste: Stevie Wonder already has played a concert in the East Room, Marc Anthony already took to the South Lawn for an evening of Latin music, and the Foo Fighters played the Fourth of July party.

I have long stopped watching & contributing to Hollywood’s new movies and current TV shows because of their clear tilt to the left and their generally awful contents. I wish that they’d just keep their politics out of their profession. The last movie that I watched was Tom Hank’s Castaway. The last TV series that I followed was Happy Days. The only programs that I watch nowaday are sports, cable news/talks, reruns of oldies, and documentary about things like the animals, the universe, war history, constructions, etc. where they at least gave some appearance of impartiality or no political favoritism.
Hollywood made him. It is only appropriate that they be invited.

While G.W.Bush did not hold nearly as many state dinners as his father (hardly anyone did,) Pres. Bush did, in fact, host these events while the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were raging (some would say while our efforts in Afghanistan were lanquishing.)
Finally, the entertainment business is one this country’s most important economic and cultural exports, so inviting showbiz moguls to attend is no different from inviting, for example, auto or tech CEOs. Do president’s often invite industry leaders who are supportive of their political agendas? Yep. But if you’ve seen as many guest lists for these types of events as I have, you would know that this support is not always a prerequisite for receiving one of these coveted invitations.

I quit the movies gradually. I have not been to the movies at all in way over a year. This is the reason – I could not have explained it any better. The “deceived and the deceiver…..”

With so many people out of work, so many homes being foreclosed, even entire states going broke, hearing about a party with celebs at the White House makes me think it’s not about Rep’s or Dem’s, it’s about how far politicians are removed from reality.
Dangle the political differences in one hand to throw everyone off track, while raking in the benefits for themselves and their friends with the other hand. It’s wrong no matter which side of the fire their pitchforks tend to stoke.

Well said, Hans! He’s an actor pretending to be presidential. His foreign and domestic failures make the Carter years look productive and fruitful. I had high hopes for him in January, but see him for what he is now, a partisan hack with no interest in centrist policies, as well as a dangerous ideologue that’s trying to dismantle this great nation brick by brick. Don’t feel bad about these idiot’s comments. They can’t stand the fact that the first black president is an abysmal failure. No surprise there. They should have found a qualified black candidate, instead of one with no leadership experience and no ability to inspire people, away from a teleprompter. What a tool this guy is!
President Obama was elected by eloquent speeches and promises. In his political career he accomplished nothing. His grandeur even impressed the Holloywood heavy weights and their money. To bad these celebrities are hoodwinked like millons of others. This administration is harmful to America’s health.
