First of all, Steve Martin uses “tunafish sandwich” for deodorant.
Secondly, “We” don’t eat Big Macs and large fries, nor do the Indian Heads of State eat “green curry” or any common food. As if.
Whatever the place settings look(ed) like, I’m sure there was a contingency of people who are in the know, and that it was beautiful, and completely respectful.
Not like your home table which, apparently, is littered with cardboard boxes of red, yellow and white, proudly displaying golden arches and grease stains. You GO, fly-over America!
Ah, good old Hollywood snobbery. Nice to see there are some things we can always rely on.
You probably won’t be print this but … these guys are all geeks and weasels, powerful geeks and weasels perhaps, but weasels nevertheless. Obama’s a smart guy; I’m sure he knows who he’s dealing with and doesn’t make excuses about it; he knows that even someone at his level has to play the game.

State dinners are very special. We don’t do enough of them. The pictures of the tent were wonderful.
On the humorous side, the Hollywood list looks like people who eat together every day; Geffen, Katzenberg, Speilberg et al.

The Obama Administration has been a lot less pro-Hollywood than the Clinton Administration (those were the days…) but he did have to thanks guys like Geffen who stood up early and raised big $$$ for him, fair is fair.
The Freedom Garden Vegetables Are Served
Last night Hollywood Royalty attended Obama’s first White House State Dinner. Hm mm, sounds cool. Did you get an invitation? Me neither.
All Presidents do this and it is normally a time for the entire nation to enjoy, vicariously, such a glamorous event. I am sure we are all too young to have experienced the Kennedy State Dinners. The entire nation felt in on the celebration. They felt included.
Why does this one seem to be held almost in secret? Why is the guest list so closely guarded? Why do most Americans feel left out? Under G.W. Bush, sure we understood that.
IMO: With nearly 1/5 (U6 unemployment rate) of Americans out of or in need of more work this type of event is in bad taste. Is this the time and place for the wealthy, strong and advantaged of our country to get together a pat themselves on the back? Serving vegetables from the White House garden almost sounds like a “Let Them Eat Cake” moment when 49 million Americans are now officially classified as “lacking in necessary daily calories”. Mrs Obama planting the garden last Spring was kind of cool and sent a great massage to a nation in need of hope and direction. Having the white gloved staff harvest it and serve it to 400 Hollywood Fat Cats seems kind of out of touch with the pain of a nation in crisis.
If all the Big Shots from Hollywood were working hard to keep their names out of the press, I wonder how many Banksters and Wall Street Thugs were in attendance. We probably will never know.
This all happens on the eve of President Obama announcing to ESCALATE the WAR in Afghanistan.

Geffen deserved a seat at the President’s table for being such an early supporter. We all forget how Clinton had a virtual lock on the nomination at the start. Geffen, Bill Bradley and others were there very early when he was a long shot.
Were George Clooney & Matt Damon also at the table? I hope they were invited.
