The Huffington Post talked to the 25-year-old Swiss mogul (heir to the Nestle family fortune) who bought out The Weinstein Company's shares in ASMALLWORLD.net:
HuffPo: How did you and Harvey Weinstein first meet?
Patrick Liotard-Vogt: We met at the AMFAR benefit in Cannes last year. I walked up to him and said, "Hey, I want to buy your shares in ASMALLWORLD" to which he responded, "You need to show up with a lot of money, which I don't think you have." I laughed and said, "I think I have ten times more than you do."

Did Weinstein know who Liotard-Vogt was? Isn’t the guy loaded (aka Nestle – worlds largest food company)?
Seems like he could leverage asmallworld with his other companies. One concern is there are similar high end sites out there. However, the partnerships with his other properties may create some barriers.
Do you people not get it? Harvey gave the perfect answer. This schmuck, Patrick, probably overpaid by 50% just to prove Harvey wrong.
hahaha patrick, so funny! you got him there. say what you want about harvey weinstein but he earned every penny in his bank account (i didn’t say he did it with honor or has never lost any, but what’s there is his) as opposed to this loser who hasn’t worked a day in his life and is buying a website that he thinks has cache but is going to continue to fail.
Just another sign of Harvey’s hubris. Hey, in LA we see 25 y/o’s driving their Porshes. U decide what they can and cannot buy…
Harvey Weinstein may be a little rough around the edges but he did make the indy film market what it is today. I worked for him and everything I know today I learned from Harvey. He is tough but he is a film genius and he and Bob changed the World of Film…I have nothing but love, admiration and respect for Harvey Weinstein….
Harvey – we all know you read this site. Stop posting about yourself. It’s insulting to the little character you already have.
He’s hardly a “film genius”. He takes risks and sometimes that pays off and sometimes it doesn’t. I really don’t think the guy knows what’s good and what’s not. Can you really say there was a “film genius” behind such craptastic movies as Doogal and Derailed? He insists on micromanaging everything, but he doesn’t seem to have a grasp on what’s really going on within his operation.
Throw Bawb into the mix and things get even more disorganized. They’ll greenlight crap but drag their feet or pass on better projects. They won’t properly promote & release the pictures they have that have real potential, and then they’ll throw the money they save into buying or making something completely shitty. Harvey is surrounded by yes men and women who won’t level with him, and the people who had some sense and some taste have now exited the company. Who knows if the company will last, but they’d do a lot better if he’d hire some people who know what they’re doing AND have the courage to be honest with him AND stick around for more than a year or so. Oh, and he’d actually have to listen to them and not be such a control freak.
Excuse me. Film genius? Is there such thing? Let’s not flatter ourselves here, Hollywood is just movies. There is no degree of intelligence required to make films that constitutes “genius” of any sort.
Say that to writers who construct rich beautiful stories with many layers and subtleties. Or actors who display vunerability and allow you to see things about the characters you never would have pictured. How about cinematographers who can make a scene so breathtaking you want to cry? It all requires vision, talent and quite frankly brains. Just saying.
Is this Steph Jones?
after all a man who sticks up for a child rapists is deserving of everyone’s respect–no?
Harvey gets no respect from talentless trust fund babies. Big deal.
Wonderful answer, the guy is great.
It’s a joke that you use the words “genius” and “Harvey” in the same sentence. The man has ruined more good films (and promising filmmakers’ careers) than he’s earned awards or accolades for strong films that didn’t need his scissorhand touch. He’s built his own mythology and now he’s going down by it. He’s an obnoxious human being that has zero respect or concern for any of the employees or artists that work for him. The sooner the Weinsteins fold up shop and quit the business the better. And, really, it’s not that he’s “rough around the edges,” it’s that the edges are all fly paper and razor blades.
Happy to see Troy Duffy posting on this site now.
“And, really, it’s not that he’s “rough around the edges,” it’s that the edges are all fly paper and razor blades.”
May be the single best sentence I’ve ever read on DHD. Well done!
I don’t understand how this makes Harvey look bad.
Like him or not, Harvey earned his fortune …
… and is about to pad it by selling a worthless website to a clueless kid with a big ego.
Patrick Liotard-Vogt sounds like a douche. Harvey may be a fat, bloated, pox marked piece of shit, but he earned his money and this little trust fund piece of done-nothing Euro-trash crap is going to take it to Harvey like he IS somebody? What a joke even if (like most everyone who reads DHD) you think Harvey is an asshole.
Usually the closer up to a mogul personality you get, the more flaws you see. I’ve worked inside of several media organizations overseen by very successful people whose personal qualities left a lot to be desired. Most often, people who make things happy are often not nice, polite people who radiate love into the universe. They have sharp elbows and even sharper tongues. (And if they want to project the image of niceness, they have a big mean dog — some flunky — that they use to be mean on their behalf. I had that kind of boss too.) Yes, Harvey Weinstein is mean and crude and not nice to his underlings and maybe made some bad creative decisions. But someone full of sweetness and light probably wouldn’t have created the indie film market. And that Swiss boy just sounds like a dick.
Classic! Great moment! Thanks Nikki.
I’m no fan of Harvey, he’s arrogant, but at least Harvey made his money. The arrogance of this 25 year-old member of the lucky sperm club is laughable.
Damned exchange rate!
Everyone here is so wanna be. This is the failed ex.chat internet site. Harvey is great, you all wish you had as much history as him! Keep bitching, then take a deep breath, look at how much you have really done in this biz. Not so much right? Now keep bitching about everyone making more money and news then you. Feels good, right? Blogs will really get them back! Go team.
I will not see any movies made by Weinstein because of his disturbing support of Roman Polanski. Case closed.
LOL. Arrogant ass, meet arrogant ass … these guys are two different butt cheeks of the same syndrome.
