UPDATED: Lifetime can go forward with its version of Project Runway after NBC Universal went to court to stop The Weinstein Company from moving the show from Bravo. Now there's a settlement. But let's call it what it really is: a complete surrender by money-challenged Harvey Weinstein. I'm told that "tons of millions of dollars" were paid by Harv to Jeff Zucker's fiefdom -- not just NBC-Uni legal fees, a claim Weinstein is trying to peddle to the media. The fact is that NBC Universal won every round of this lawsuit, and it even says so in the statement of congratulations from Harvey. (Did they have him strapped down at the time for waterboarding?) As for Lifetime, I hear it's getting a revamped show that's not as good as the Bravo original. And Lifetime can't even put it on the air until late summer. By then, it's going to be Project Who?
Look at these laugh riot statements:
NBC Universal said today: "NBC Universal, The Weinstein Company and Lifetime have resolved their disputes. The Weinstein Company will pay NBCU for the right to move Project Runway to Lifetime. All of the parties are pleased with the outcome.
Harvey Weinstein added, "I want to personally congratulate Jeff Zucker and NBCU on their success in the litigation and thank Jeff for resolving this in a professional manner. We look forward to working together on our ongoing projects.”
Andrea Wong, President and CEO of Lifetime Networks, just issued this statement: "I couldn’t be more excited that Lifetime will bring its viewers an amazing, all-new season of Project Runway this summer. Lifetime is the perfect home for this outstanding program as well as its companion series Models of the Runway. All of us at Lifetime are thrilled to move forward with Heidi, Tim, Nina, Michael, The Weinstein Company and the entire Project Runway team."
Now, if only Lifetime could stop its dreary anti-feminist series of brain-deadening movies that pit female against female ad nauseum.

I agree with the last line, Nikki, about Lifetime being so anti-feminist. May I also add mysogynistic and misandrous as well.
Fuck Lifetime.
Here’s the saddest part, Nikki – every time I see any post about NBC’s comings and goings I wonder why they even bother. The network is a national joke, but Jeff and Ben just don’t get it yet. Even worse, the analysis is always about them only, but is never, ever about the fine network they have destroyed.
Interesting that WMA was involved in this
I so enjoyed Project Runway (once I watched it)…and do miss it now. But I cannot imagine wanting to watch it on Lifetime. All the things that made PR on Bravo watchable will be diluted or distored or just eliminated. I haven’t watched any other reality-type shows (well, Iron Chef, but that’s not reality, anymore than wrestling is..) and the image I get when I think of Lifetime doing ‘cutting edge’ reality is of the plastic knife you use at a picnic or get with takeout. I can see the spin-offs now: Crafts Challenge! (sponsored by Jo-anns and featuring all the things you can make with paper from someone else’s recycling bin) or Thrift Store Take Ons (1 bag, $10, and you have to make an entirely new outfit) not to mention Footwear Frenzy (decorating flip-flops with unknown closeouts from 99cent stores)….why the possibilities are endless–they’re also almost as disgusting as thinking about what Lifetime will do with PR. Sic Transit Gloria Tim Gunn….
I don’t watch Lifetime.
Nor Project Runway.
Both are oblivion as far as tv goes…
Project Runway had nothing to do with the Network – but rather the makers and creators – The Magical Elves – without the Elves the show will not be Runway – it will be some low-rent copy.
money, money, money … glad it’s back on … my daughter got me into watching in.. saw some noteworthy names come into play like MICHAEL KORS and JOE FARIS,m and the ever watchable Heidi Klum (man, Seal’s one lucky man!)… interesting show, terrific concept … wonder if Lifetime will muck it up?
money, money, money
Um, what exactly has that fat fuck Wenstein succeeded at since Disney kicked his ass off the lot? It’s been one epic failure after another. Karma’s a bitch isn’t it, Harvey?
In the Hollywood wolf pack, a major conglomerate CEO like Zucker is always the Alpha wolf, and independent producers like Weinsteins are always the Beta wolf, no matter what you think of the Alpha’s qualifications or ability.
I read somewhere that when a Beta wolf challenges the authority of an Alpha wolf, the Alpha has to not only defeat the Beta in battle, but also hold the Beta down, and piss on his head as the ultimate sign of domination.
But all the ass-kissing in Weinstein’s statement shows just how bad things must be for him and his company. I mean, he’s now not only a Beta, but he’s also Jeff Zucker’s bitch*. And how does he put himself in that kind of situation, and seriously consider himself some kind of player?
I mean Jeff Zucker of all the people in showbiz.
*(in the proverbial prison sense, than the canine related sense)
I hate Lifetime. It’s counterproductive, it’s degrading, it’s about as quality as a dimestore novel, and it owns my goddamn soul. So long as they play ‘Project Runway’ and re-runs of ‘Frasier’, ‘Golden Girls’, and ‘Wife Swap’, I will watch their abortion of a channel. >.< The worst part? They did a TV movie about Chanel. It was horrible. It was almost three hours about her early relationships, and her major accomplishments like the little black dress, Chanel no5, and her revolutionizing fashion, were crammed into the last fifteen minutes. But the designs were gorgeous and the cast was hot, so I watched it. If there’s a DVD, I’ll get it, but watch it in another language because the script was so abyssmal. God, I’m ashamed of myself.
Nearly all of television is anti-feminist.
At least Lifetime features and employs women first and foremost, young and old, famous and not so famous, and not just in ’sexualized’ roles (or what some lame executive thinks is sexual.) On network and much of cable tv, women have been reduced to ridiculous cliches by angry whiny men who need to blame someone for their sad selves. Lifetime is far more entertaining and tolerable than most shows, though that may not be saying much.
Say what you will about Harvey and his personality or lack thereof, but at least he’s good at what he does, unlike that schmuck Zucker.
TO ‘at least there’s reruns of good old shows….I think you are wrong to say “nearly all of television is anti-feminist:” Damages, The Closer, Saving Grace, Dexter, In Plain Sight, Brothers & Sisters, even Sons of Anarchy–.all feature strong women, flawed, but complex, interesting characters. It is ironic, of course that the ‘womens network’ doesn’t air any of these shows..so I agree that Lifetime has a long way to go..they had, once upon a time, some very good shows in the early years–Any Day Now, Strong Medicine, and the cop show with Bonnie Bedelia– it’s been a while, and lets hope that Ms Alfano and Ms Lederman can put their stamp on a new attitude in their scripted series. But to say all of tv is anti-feminist is not true.
No one may be watching NBC, but at least they can still make money by having people pay them to not be on their networks anymore.
Soon cable companies will be offering packages where you DON’T get NBC for an additional charge each month.
Battlestar Galactica had the best female roles on television, hands down.
Having worked on the new Lifetime version of Project Runway–from the production, through the editing–I can absolutely say it’s as good as when it was on Bravo. The entire production and post-production crew was dedicated to preserving the authenticity of Project Runway–and as you will all get a chance to see, everyone did a great job. I know changing networks invites a lot of “hating” but give it a chance. It’s going to be a great season.
I’ve thought since this whole thing was announced that having Project Runway on Lifetime will hurt the brand. The little spinoffs they have planned aren’t changing my mind about that. Bravo is a very trendy and fashion-forward channel. Lifetime has inspired its latest round of chuckles with those God-Awful Nora Roberts movie posters. PR may go on for a few more seasons I’m sure, but it’s cache is pretty much null and void after being on Lifetime.
Wow, Weinstein keeps suing and it’s working less and less. Dummy – U should’ve just kept a share of the profits and ur mouth shut. What on Earth is going ON over there at TWC? Acting like a mogul does not just make U a mogul – duh! As for Lifetime, I like my sweater set along with the next girl (if I was a girl, I guess) but it seems that P.R. is the way for them to jump into the 21st Century with some hit factor. Let’s hope it REMAINS a hit for them, or else like the W.Bros., they will be scraping the crud off themselves too that was handed down from on (GE)high.
To At least there’s reruns of old good shows:
You are completely delusional. American television is SPECIFICALLY geared towards women. Why? Because it’s an advertiser-supported medium, and advertisers know the women in households make all of the purchasing decisions. Think about it…every father-figure in sit-coms is either whiny and/or irrational and/or mendicious. The good ol’ wifey has to straighten things out. Cliff Huxtable was the last decent, normal father-figure. Christ!
