Forgetting all that Paris Hilton/Britney Spears political nonsense, it's also that time every four years when Hollywood comes under scrutiny for its mega-fundraising on behalf of the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates. The Wall Street Journal today identifies the political "bundlers" who have each raised at least $500,000 from relatives,
associates and employees for the campaigns of Barack Obama or John McCain. Needless to say, several of the 98 names are well-known in entertainment. According to WSJ research: Obama's bundlers include Charlie Rivkin, the LA-based CEO of Wild Brain Inc; David Geffen, the billionaire investor and bicoastal DreamWorks partner; Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks Animation; Nicole Avant, the LA-based music publisher of Interior Music. That's it. Yes, I, too, was surprised there weren't more Hollywood names on the list. For McCain, there's Jerry Perenchio, the LA-based billionaire investor and chairman of Chartwell Partners; Greg Maffei, the Colorado-based prez/CEO of Liberty Media; and Terry Lanni, the Las Vegas-based chairman of the MGM Mirage. Also, according to Federal Election Commission data as of July 28th, Obama has received $4.7 million in donations and McCain $815K from the TV/movie/music industry -- not a leading sector donation-wise for either candidate.
Obama Hardly A "Hollywood Candidate" -- And Not Necessarily Sumner Redstone's

Jerry Perenchio, most mysterious man in this city. Love to see a profile on him.
Money makes elections go round.
I find it amusing that Liberals are the only one that find McCain celebrity ad on Obama silly and ridiculous. Well, not all. Even Sen. Schumer, a Democrat, adminted it was powerful stuff. But I suppose Jeffrey Wells dissing Voight on his op piece is also ridiculous. Oh, the Hollywood elistists don’t think so. How enlightening.
There’s so much venom and spite going around and McCain is a regular cobra. Please give it a break and behave like adults, take a respectful position. VOte for Obama, who is inspiring and a much better leader. Visit WHYOBAMA08.ORG!!!
Things look pretty depressing for this country with Obama or McCain to choose from.
VOTE HILLARY CLINTON.
What I find interesting about the Hollywood Left is how they treat on stars. Jon Voight took out an Op-ed piece in one of the papers criticizing Obama which in my opioin he has right to do. Also I’ve been hearing a lot about how some conservative stars have been whitelisted.
Now left wing movie stars have another problems when they come out and criticize say the President. Thier movies don’t do to hot at the box office and I honestly believe this turns off a lot of thier fans. Now I believe George Clooney has made a serious mistake doing an Obama fundraiser in Switzerland becouse this could backfire as a later conesquence of one’s actions. Now if I was a publicist I would advise my stars not to take thier politics public becouse of the detrimentation it would do them, insulting some in thier fan base and hurting a film in the process.
I am a resident of Illinois. If Obama is really about “change” he would have resigned from the Senate before running for president. Instead, he took the same route as others and blew off his responsibilty to his constituents by remaining in office.
One of his responsibilities as a Senator is to be accountable for the manner in which his Senate staff deals with his constituents. Absentee management does not work, and his disciples should hope that he does not operate the same way if he is elected president.
I’d wager that he has become addicted to the adulation that he receives, and that will be a problem that his disciples should be concerned about too.
Honestly I don’t see Senator as real change agent or someome that trancends race. His policies on energy aren’t soluable becoues his talking points aren’t thought out. Now a real change agent would show his/her real solutions to a problem. And I believe speaker Nancy Pelosi and John Edwards with his affair which the National Enquirer is breaking more on is going to hurt the democrat brand.
Policitians who come out as change agents is deceptitive. Especially when one preaches to the choir about high taxes which would ruin a sagging economy. Second why do Democrats put themselves over thier country especially in a crisis? That’s where the Speaker screwed. For every action there is a consequence. And for Democrats to go against thier own on the off shore drilling issue,by the way Pelosi is hurting those of you out in California. Especially with 51% in favor off shore drilling. And 58% Democrats are in favor too. Those who wear blinders over thier eyes are condemn to repeat the same mistakes.
JohnO,
How come you only knock Senator Obama for your claim when your argument applies to Senator McCain too?
McCain should have resigned several times from the Senate since he’s been running for President since the Civil War, because he’s so old (and desperate).
I know you’re reaching hard to tear down a great candidate but try harder and be less hypocritical with your points.
