Horrible news. According to my sources inside the studio, the layoffs are coming. But probably not this week, and probably not a big number. But my sources outside the studio hear the layoffs will hit all departments, and international especially.

The layoffs started long ago. The studio has already decimated just about its entire LA-based international production staff…including executives Dan McCaffrey, Rob Feldman, Jonathan Fishman, Fran McConnell. The same people who built their market-leading business in scripted production were the first ones tossed when Sony started acquiring Light Entertainment companies in Europe.
Nikki:
One reason for the big layoffs at Sony’s International Unit was the disaster of a contract that Sony gave for the rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League (Cricket). The Advertising Dollars alone are shocking. In 2008 based on US to Rupee exchange rate at 1 to 40 advertising revenue was $125 million in 2008. However projected 2009 revenue based on US to Rupee exchange rate at 1 to 50 is now around $80 million. I know this since I was in Bangalore a week ago for business and was making some small talk with my customers about Cricket and lo and behold these numbers came up. Like the rest of the world India’s economy has slowed down and this has contributed to problems at Sony
So all the business leaves Los Angeles and goes overseas….
