I hear it looks certain for a TNT pickup of Southland, which was dumped by NBC. People working on the show are being told to prepare for a projected November 2nd resume shooting date, but that may be premature. Warner Bros has no official announcement. But that's because TNT and NBC are still negotiating moolah terms, according to my sources. *UPDATE: "NBC has been holding things up, but we're getting closer," a show insider just told me tonight. "This behavior from NBC has been unbelievable and amazingly fucked-up -- even for them -- which is really saying something..."*
C'mon, was there really any doubt that TNT would want this Warner Bros series? Especially since John Wells and Barry Meyer are joined at the hip? Plus, judging from the fan furor, the show deserved another try. Anyway, at this moment, this is what I understand to be the most accurate info.

Southland is terrible. It’s like they saw Haggis’ CRASH and thought it was too subtle.

Horrible, derivative show. Waste of money on all levels. If it can’t perform in the ER slot after a widely publicized ER finale and Southland premiere, how will this moldy leftover attract viewers on basic cable? They will just see it as reruns of a short-lived show.

I don’t want to get my hopes up but I REALLY hope this is true. I have loved Southland more than any other show I have seen recently.
If it last more than one year on TNT I will be surprised.Southland is terrible, I see it’s ratings being cut in half on TNT, but that probably would be big numbers for basic cable.

Southland was solid… for a NBC drama. But as the other commenter stated, it too often came across like a watered down cross between the Shield and Crash. Didn’t NBC more or less do the exact same thing a few years back with Boomtown? It did have some great cast work though. It will fit in well with the TNT lineup though and the cast deserves the chance to continue developing the show.
I was never a fan of Southland but I will say TNT is a perfect place for it. My mom can watch it after Leverage or that nurse show.

I like that Southland is not like the Shield or any of those other tough cop shows. I don’t want to watch all that when I come home. Southland made me feel good. It reminded me of how Starsky and Hutch was..or Police Woman. They were stories but not so heavy. Let HBO or FX do those other kinds of shows. This is good. All types of cops shows need to be done.
Will Southland now be produced under the “Long Form Contract” (the old movie of the week contract) as are all the other TNT shows?
That means most everyone below the line gets paid less (10-20% less), and each episode must be produced for under a set amount of money.

If I could watch 2 1/2 half men, then Southland, then Leverage that would be a great line-up of tv. You guys can have True Blood, the Wire, Mad Men, Damages.. I don’t like that crap. It’s too much. Maybe Southland can do a crossover with the Closer.
If the people on Southland won’t take a 20% cut to save their jobs then they are dumb. They don’t need to spend so much money on the show. Tell better stories. The Shield had no budget and it told better stories for less money. That’s just dumb to blow a deal because of a cut to go to cable. They should be lucky they are even getting another shot. Do the show for less. Who cares? Keep your jobs. That’s what people don’t get. No one cares if you have all the production value and the scripts aren’t great. Tell a good story for less and save your show.
John Wells on cable – its going to be fantastic – I wonder if they will re-edit the original 7 episodes before they reshow them on TNT. Not sure who will pick it up here in Canada – globalTV seems to pick up the TNT shows

Im very hopeful this will get picked up. As for some of the negative comments, they obviously don’t understand the format. If you can’t understand the show, too bad. NBC was trying to get the writers to dumb it down for the average NBC viewer but they wouldn’t budge. If you cant follow or understand the episodes, go back to watching the biggest loser.
I hope TNT airs all episodes and orders another season. I wont be happy with just 13 episodes. I dont work for the show, I just appreciate a good show for once. Im so tired of csi’s, vampire shows, superhero shows and reality TV. This was the first show in a long time where all the cast could act their butts off, and seemingly worked very well together.
And YES a tie in with the closer would be incredible.
I don’t care for the show but I do understand it, I just don’t find it to be edgy. But if you don’t like the show it’s hard to piss on it going to TNT because they tend to do wholesome shows like this. Good luck.

Southland is well scripted, extremely well acted, and beautifully shot. When did hour long drama start to mean that everything was neatly wrapped up with a bow at the end of the show? By the way, I love The Closer AND The Wire. For different reasons. You don’t have to be hardcore all the time. The point of all this is, that NBC put all their eggs in the Leno basket, and the chickens are going to come home to roost, eventually. I’m just glad there’s something besides ‘Dark Blue’ which was a major disappointment.

I don’t think the show is very good, but it’s better than Trauma a TV series NBC actually airs. Plus it fits with TNT, and if TNT wants the CANCELLED show than they should get it! NBC should have nothing to do with this.

Awesome show. I was really disgusted with NBC for canceling it. Can’t go wrong with this one TNT. The show already has a substantial following judging from the number of post i have seen on the net supporting.
I think Southland was cutting edge and very similar to NYPD Blue. I loved the show and so did many of my friends. If there is anyway for people at TNT to grasp the number of potental viewers I hope thet pick up this show. How do we get comments to them? Shame on NBC is all I can say.
