When your soundtrack isn't even completed much less released (not until November 4th), yet it's already in the Top 5 Best-Selling Albums on Amazon based on pre-sales alone, you know you have a hit. When Borders makes an exclusive calendar and sells out the first printing in a matter of days, you know you have a hit. And when the new trailer to your movie surpasses 3.5 million views less than 48 hours after its online debut, you know you have a hit. Which is why Summit Entertainment's CEO Rob Friedman is already readying a Twilight sequel -- even though the vampire tween/tween movie isn't set for release until November 21st which is the date vacated by Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. Oh, and did I mention that Twilight has the fastest selling licensed merchandise since -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter?
But the comparison with Harry Potter ends at cost: Twilight came in at only a $37 million negative cost. This notion of a low-cost blockbuster for a start-up studio just doesn't happen often in the film biz. So if the movie lives up to the advance hype, Summit will be sitting on a big new franchise. How big? Well, the new Twilight trailer played with Quarantine this weekend and as soon as the title came up, a chorus of high-pitched screams of joy emanated from the women in the audience in one Southern California theater. Only to be properly drowned out by a loud chorus of male boos. It's conventional wisdom that boys won't go because there's not enough gory fang action. But Summit is also marketing to an online contingent called Twilight Moms because of the chaste love story set in the picturesque locale of Oregon and directed by thirteen's Catherine Hardwicke. Still, I think Summit is lowballing by hoping for a $20M North American opening weekend from 3,500+ venues.
Like Potter, Twilight has a built-in audience of book fans with, a total 7.5 million domestic sales for all four Stephanie Meyer novels in the series which was a New York Times #1 bestseller for 59 weeks. Not to mention big sales overseas like Italy, Germany and the UK. That's one reason Twilight is opening day and date in 10 territories, including the U.S.
Summit may spend in the high $30sM for P&A. That's a bargain consider skyrocketing marketing costs in the movie biz. That's because indies these days must spend more efficiently than studios by not just attracting long lines at Comic-Con but almost solely relying on My Space and other social networks instead of costly TV ads. Look, for example, at how Summit rolled out the new trailer. First, Nancy Kirkpatrick (one of the best in the biz) heightened fan anticipation by creating a countdown clock to the widget. Then came the trailer's free debut on Entertainment Tonight. That night, Summit gave fans a special opportunity to see it online first as a way of thanking them for their support. The trailer was streamed through Twilight's widget from 8 PM to 9 PM for fans, then debuted for the general audience in HD on MySpace Trailer Park at 9 PM. The result: 2 million views in the first 24 hours on MySpace alone and 3.5 million views in cyberspace within the first 48 hours.

i don’t think anyone other than 14yr old girls want to see this…
I suppose its not the first time so much money and effort has been wasted on such horrendous writing.
I myself being a man have no problem admitting I like the Twilight series though I loathed myself a little due to it being aimed at a younger audience. That movie is going to make such a profit it’s not even funny.
20 million…no way. It will have a HUGE opening.
I am not in the movie biz, but there are 6-10 people in my office alone who want the day off to go to an early matinee. They each know 1-2 other people who want to see it then also.
We are all 21-35…so that is not even counting the tweens and teens that will overflow the theatres.
I’m curious to see how the movie does, given a lot of fans’ reaction to the characterizations in the last book and its no-longer-chaste content.
But then, I’m amazed at the fan passion for the series. I picked up the first book on the recommendation of a friend and was so bored I barely finished it. I see a lot of movies, especially genre ones, but I’ll definitely skip this one in the theaters rather put up with squealing tweens.
It’s going to be huge. People who have never read the book are underestimating the fandom.
I’m a 37 yr old mom and I know other 30 something friends who love the books/series and are dying to see the movie. So for it to open in the 20 million is an understatement…it’s going to be huge!
Not to pick (and I don’t know where the movie was shot) but it is SET in a locale in Washington, not Oregon — namely, Forks, a small town on the Olympic Peninsula, which is currently seeing a huge TWILIGHT-related tourist boom.
I am a huge Twilight Series fan and I am 22. I am not ashamed to say it and I am very excited that they have decided to Pick up New Moon for production! I think this will be a very popular and great franchise, like it isn’t already, and these actors can show even more of their wonderful talent.
The only thing I ask is that they please keep the original cast. I absolutely hate it when the switch the cast members! I personally know some of the actors who will be staying so I hope they don’t change anyone because that will be a major disappointment.
We need another book series to take over for POTTER & CO. This must be at least a $30M opener. I’m somewhat curious but it looks alittle dull. But pretty young vampires doing vampire things seems to be the rule of the day (whether they suck blood or not).
After reading your entry, I watched both teaser trailers. It looks like something the Sci-Fi Channel would run on a Sunday afternoon! At least it’s nice to see the Pacific NW being used as a backdrop, but that’s about it.
I don’t believe that it is simply 14 yr old girls that want to see these movies. I am 20 and in a book club that consists of girls 18-40 that are in love with the book. My boyfriend even loves the books… so it won’t bee just teeny boppers there…
I can’t wait for this to come out! I’m 19 and i’ve loved this book series since twilight came out! My boyfriend is a fan of the series too so atleast one boy will be seeing it : )
I’m 20 as well, and I enjoy the books. Though they are not the greatest fiction, they are addicting and fun read. I’m very excited for the films, and i find it hilarious that Summit is low-balling it for 20 mil. Lowest I can see would be 50 million, and with the budget 37 mil, of course they would go to the next sequel.
I do admit though, Summit needs to get some of these previews on the Television, there are still many whom have not heard of this film as of yet, So we’ll just have to see.
But I know there is a fan base, I was astonished when I saw a 40 woman on transit reading it, it proved to me that this film could be bigger than I thought.
I’d like to say I recently dealt with a small management company called THE MAK COMPANY. I believe this is a future powerhouse. They treated me, a no name writer with dignity. Just wanted to give them a shout out.
Im a 32 yo mum of 4 kids and married for 12
I LOVE TWILIGHT and am sooooo excited to see this film and cant wait for the next film…
I BOW TO CATHRINE H she is a legond
I am in my thirties and I am a big fan of the books and really looking forward to the movie.
I have passed the books along to some of my friends in my age group and everybody have loved them. As far as the audience for the movie goes, I believe it will be definitely mostly female but it will include every single age group.
I´m 27 and i´ll to see Twilight at least 5 times ^^
This will likely be a profitable (here defined simply as grosses exceeding production and P&A costs – not participation agreement profitable) film, but no one should confuse this with a giant B.O. winner.
It smells like a “Hulk”-type of performance in regards to audience attrition. If it’s 2nd weekend loses less than 65% of the first, I will be surprised.
Well, I’m 31, and yes, if it wasn’t opening on Black Friday I would be at the midnight showing. Just because these books are aimed at tees, doesn’t mean the “rest of us” do not completely enjoy them. For some of us trapped in our day to day lives, these books were an escape into an alternate reality. For many women my age, these books have even brought a new spark into their marriages, and if you don’t believe me, go look it up yourself. There are several websites dedicated to these books set up by women my age and older, including my own Myspace site. There are plenty of movies out there that I won’t go see this year, and I’m sure to some people, those movies are what they have been waiting to see. My point is, one needs to give everything a chance, and not judge a book by it’s cover, a movie by it’s trailer, or an alternate reality by a large portion of it’s fan base. I also read the Harry Potter books and found them fascinating as well. You people that think this is just something that only teenagers will like also need to consider something else–7.5 million copies of these books sold means a lot of kids are off the streets and reading again, and as a mother I am going to support that ideal as best I can.
Everyone in the fandom knows that there are people who are not into Twilight and would not even consider maybe reading the book or watching the movie first before making any comments but like almost all Twilighters, people are underestimating the fandom.
Im a 30 yr old mom and I loved the books. And will love the movie. Hope they will make all the books into movies. To those who are so decisively against Twilight, here’s an word of advice:”Stop posting! No one wants to hear your whining…”
I have never read Twilight, but I will go see the movie just to get the taste of the dreck that is TRUE BLOOD out of my mouth. ANY Vampire story would be superior to that crap.
And I hope TWILIGHT will be done with some class and smarts, two things TB is missing as well.
On one hand I’m thrilled. For a start up like Summit to have such a potential franchise smash hit on their hands of this size (something a post Lord Of The Rings New Line never managed) less than a year after they opened their doors is incredible.
I really hope that Summit can build on the success that Twilight brings them. Now, more than ever, we need another place for people to take their work.
And with New Line Cinema reduced to nothing more than a filing cabinet in some itnerns cubicle at Warners Summit are perfectly positioned to be the edgy, interesting place that New Line once was all those years ago.
On the other hand… this film looks hideous. From the trailers it looks like some cheap Toronto shot pilot that The CW passed on.
I realise that this isn’t a film aimed at me (a man in his 30’s) but even still.
Blargh.
This is going to be absolutely huge, especially due to the repeat viewing appeal it has to the huge obsessive fanbase.
Although, they should make it a trilogy – the fourth book was awful and would make a terrible film.
HELLO???!! 14 YR OLD GIRLS? WTF?! IM 22 AND ID KILL TO SEE THIS MOVIE! ITS NOT A TWEEN MOVIE, THERE ARE A LOT OF OLDER FANS! ITS LIKE SAYING MOST OF MILEY CYRUS’S FANS ARE UNDER 13, NO, NOT MOST OF THEM, SOME OF THEM SURE, BUT THEY ALL HAVE OLDER FANS! THATS JUST STEREOTYPING!
I Love the way they say about the opening day being in 10 countries. yeah, not at the same flipping time! the uk get it in december! thats just not fair! eh, i might well download it then lol naaa who am i kidding, i’ll see it on cinema, 5times! lol
I know 35 people coming to watch the movie on its premier on the 21st :p (friends and officemates ages: 18-25). That’s just me, think about the number of people who’ll tag along XD
Twilight’s not just popular in the US and in European countries. The LOVE for the Twilight Saga is evident here in Asia as well ^^
13-year-old girls?
I’ll be 40 in 2 months. I’m there.
And it appears I might have my 15-year-old son hooked on the books, as well.
Twilight is ageless.
We’ll show all of those naysayers.
And I look forward to all the follow-up movies!
Twilight should do great business for the first week or two, and then disappear. Honestly, no movie can live up to the expectations of the fangirls. And the general audience won’t care enough.
I borrowed the first book from a friend’s 12 yr old daughter and I must admit I felt a little foolish. However, I am now absolutely addicted. I can’t wait for the movie. I just hope it lives up to my expectations.
I think everyone, including all the naysayers and “experts” are underestimating the demographic, the appeal and the opening numbers. While the fandom is, by far female, it is NOT teens and tweens only. Many 20, 30, 40 and over women love the series as much as, if not more than, many of our daughters!!! (Call it a case of midlife lust for youth and romance). That being said, there is a growing number of male fans who are anxious to see this movie too!! Are the numbers comperable to SPIDERMAN or IRONMAN, in terms of fanboy adoration? No. But a fair number began reading the books because their girlfriends, sisters, mothers, wives all got hooked and they were tired of being TWILIGHT widowers. And Summit has amped up the action and suspense based on the things Bella doesn’t necessarily witness, but is alluded to behind the scenes.
I hope the opening numbers are gigantic!!! And I hope it’s seen as the little movie with the big heart proving the cynical studio heads, critics and “blog experts” who have been so quick to judge, wrong.
Do I expect the critics to love it? No. Critics don’t like fantasy in general, and the smaller budget will be an issue in the effects department. But the true test will be the translation of the romance on the screen and the chemistry between Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. That’s why we fell in love with these characters to begin with.
I hate to burst everyone’s bubble…but “squealing teens” are not the only people lining up to see this movie. In fact, I think the adults are sort of taking over…and we don’t squeal nearly as loud.
In my office alone (granted, we’re mostly female…but we’re Twilight mad) our boss has finally issued a memo saying no more leave will be granted for November 21st. “There has been an unusually high number of annual leave requests for this date. I am afraid at this time we cannot grant any additional requests.” HA! Good thing I put in for mine a week ago.
Yes…we’re all adults…aged 19 to 57…and we’ll be there…along with some husbands/boyfriends. And no, my boyfriend is not going kicking and screaming…he actually finally read the book and is looking forward to it. It will definitely be an estrogen-filled fest, though, I am sure.
I think they have a problem with New Moon. The book’s middle section only focuses on Bella and Jacob so Robert Pattinson who plays Edward wont appear for the vast majority of the film. If they stick religiously to the book a lot of Pattinson fans (already excited to a frenzy by Twilight) will be disappointed. Hardicke the director really needs to make sure she has more slack to go off book. Throw in another plot to cover Edward and the Cullens when they are away from Forks. Even better spend a bit more money and have more footage filmed in Italy. Show Edward with the Volturi in Italy. Some atmospheric catacomb scenes would work well. That of course requires a bigger budget but I think they need to shake that book up if they are to sustain momentum. I hope Hardwicke does some location scouting when she and the lead actors of Twilight hit the Rome Film festival later this month.
I’m 30 years old, and I adore the Twilight series. I demanded my friends to read the books, and I am bringing as much people as possible to see the movie in the theathers. If other fans are behaving like this, you can count on a huge box office.
I hope Nancy Kirkpatrick please get Rob Pattinson to shave. I’m really not going off topic here. If she’s one of the best in the business she’ll understand that the gorgeous lead actor known for his formidable jawline needs to look good when doing pr. Yet for his recent interview e.g E online he’s unshaven and a bit of a mess. Young girls and women immediately screamed merry hell on you tube saying they hated his look. It seems madness to not try and live up a little to the look in the film so the PR people need to get him to shave and dress reasonably for the Rome Film Festival and the New Hollywood Award that he’s receiving later this month. Its common sense not to burst young girls dreams before the film has come out.
If you don’t like the book or the movie stop complainig. I love the book and I’m sure allot of others do to. Wo don’t need yoer feisty criticism in places where it’s not needed. Twilight is gong to be an amazing movie and I’m sure it will live up to the book, and the rest to follow!!
Ok I am almost 22 years old and I LOVE the Twilight saga. I agree with Rebecca in the fact that I am not ashamed to say that I loved these books. I couldn’t put them down when I started reading them. I know a lot of people older than 14 that want to see this movie. I’m in college and a lot of my friends loved the books and are super excited for the movie to come out. This movie is going to be huge. My boyfriend is going to see the movie too and it’s not just because I want to go see it. He hasn’t read the books but he has seen all three trailers and he thinks the movie actually looks interesting. Don’t judge a book by its cover people. If you haven’t really read the books, try picking them up. The writing is wonderful. Plus, give Stephenie Meyer some credit. These are her first novels. So of course, they’re not going to be absolutely perfect. But for first novels, they are pretty amazing. Also, give the movie a chance. Don’t just pass it off as a stupid tween movie cuz that’s not what this movie is.
The fanbase has gone well beyond the teen market. Older women are really attracted to the film because of Robert Pattinson. Its meant to be about a 17 year old but Pattinson in real life comes across as a hot and quirky up and coming actor (being compared to Depp because of his work in other roles e.g Salvador Dali in Little Ashes). I dont think when Hardwicke chose Pattinson they realised the older female fans would latch on. They themsleves probably thought it was a teen flick. New Moon is a tricky book to film given that the main draw is absent for 3/4 of it. A bit of a headache for Hardwicke and the scriptwriter. The middle portion of the book dips badly while you wait to see what happens to Edward Cullen.
I don’t think people are taking into account the repeat business this movie will do. No true Twihard will only see this movie once. My friends are each banking on seeing it 3 times in the first weekend.
it bugs me that twilight fans can be so obnoxious that it makes other people not want to read the series or see the movie. they are great books and im sure the movie will be pretty good, but people dont give it a chance
I’m 25 and I am absolutely obsessed about this series. I can’t wait for the movie to come out. My bf has never read the books but he offered to go see it with me and my brother also. So, they’ll be at least 2 guys in the movie theater that day hahaha.
I’m part of the 25+ yr old group and I know there’s going to be hundreds of us seeing this movie. We’re already under way on planning our movie premiere parties nationwide. I think it’s great they’ve made a movie that fits for all age groups.
I am excited about a sequel! I’m 20 and in college, and I am in love with these books as are all of my friends, girls in my classes, etc. I certainly don’t think that it is only teenage girls who are into it as I know many older people who enjoy it as well.
to BRY- none of the movie was actually shot in Forks, kinda disappointing huh?
Meyer had them locked down with Twilight so they couldnt make many changes. I hope in New Moon there’s licence to add Cullen scenes because the Bella/Jacob section is very repetative. A dramatist should realise where the real drama of her story lies. Meyer chose to put the Cullens to one side and focus on the far weaker part of the story. The producers need to think carefully about the script for New Moon. If it follows the book it will be like the Harry Potter stories suddenly losing Harry for the vast majority of one film.
I am excited to see that they are going to film New Moon. All the major characters have signed a 3 film contract with Summet so there is no worry about replacing characters. I love the books and I’m 27. My husband has also read all of the books and he is 32 so their is proof that not just the tweens and teens love these books.
I have to say that I absolutely cannot wait for this movie to come out. I’m even counting down the days to go…
That however does not mean that I think that its going to be anything great. I’m seventeen and I’m a RABID fan of the series. I love the cast, and I’ve watched the teasers and final trailer more than a hundered times in total. But….we (fans) got to face facts that this movie is not going to that great. Sure, alot of people are going to see it. Its going to make a huge profit but unless people stop hyping it up and raising everyone’s expectations so high everyone is going to be severely disappointed.
I’m still going to watch it (and the sequels) multiple times
I just want everyone to be more realistic.
I’m in my fifties, and I know women from 70 down to girls of 12 who are enamored with this series of books. Sure, they have some grammatical errors and typos, but the story is engrossing. The author takes you into her world. I think the last book definitely was for older teens and adults, and it got a bit bizarre at times, but it was necessary for the story line.
The last book leaves open a world of new possibilities in the future for books about Jacob and Renesmee, the Volturi and their lust for power, the alliance with the shape-shifters, and also how Renesmee’s unique abilities affect society as a whole in the future. Just a world of possibilities, and I hope Ms. Meyer fulfills them with more books involving these characters, now that she’s finished the love story of Edward and Bella, and can concentrate on the bigger picture.
I’m a 26-year-old mom, and I will be part of a varied group going to see the movie: a 15-year-old girl, a 22-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man, and my 60-something mother.
The books are actually very enjoyable, and I think the fans are interested in seeing if the movie can live up to the first book. If it gets anywhere close to creating the same feeling of new love and excitement the first book created, then they’re going to bank on the movie.
The only people that will see this crap are women. There is no male interest. It will do fine for Summit but people are grossly overestimating this film’s box office potential.
I am 26 and my fiance is 27 and all of our old high school and college buddies have read the books, and we both agree that they deserved the top spot and that the series deserved to be made into a fabulous video! Catherine (FROM OREGON) has completed a number of wonderful movies, why not this time? The cast is amazing, other than Kristen and Robert, its mainly a low un-recoginized cast that will move on up hollywoods scale, and I believe they lived up to the task they all are un believeably beautiful and all have excellent skill, if you have doubt check out the newly released trailer, you won’t be disappointed! The movie will be a hit, for my generation, my younger sisters, even my moms, there are even fan sites for guys! My fiance is at least on there once daily! This book is labeled YOUNG ADULT, but it is only catoragized that for SALES….It can be read for any one, any age, and my money is betting they’ll like it!
Soooooo before you people go whining and complaining and saying “its not for me”, give the movie a chance, who knows…you might just like it!
I am a 23 year old professional and I happen to love these books and are more obsessive about them then my 14 year old sister. Actually the Twilight audience ranges from very young 9-10 year olds to 80 year olds. Sure the primary audience is teenagers but I belong to the TwilightMoms and Twilight20somethings blogs and I can assure you we will be out in full force just like the teenagers. If you think about it really, the older audiences are the ones that take road trips to Forks and went to the set during filming. I am already allocating money in my savings to see it at midnight, opening weekend, and several more times over the month following it’s release–and trust me, I will enjoy it every time.
I am 40 years old and love the Twilight series. I am very excited about New Moon being made. Hopefully, the film adaptation will appeal to all ages, but I will definitely be there opening day.
My greatest hope is that this is another Snakes on a Plane and bombs.
The trailers looks *horrible*. I really don’t have any idea how this movie became to something that everyone is talking about.. I think it will have a nice opening weekend (more than 30 million), but after the bad reviews it will fall very quickly.. I hope so.
Maybe it is just me, but did anyone actually inject some taste into that trailer? It looked positively direct-to-home video with the shot structure, the music, editing, and acting (especially those “bad” vampire guys). Perhaps Mr. Friedman should consider regulating the sequel as such? Although, yes, I do agree it is going to make a few dollars…
“put up with squealing tweens” ?
Im a 56 yr old Mom and Grandma, and I loved reading these books. Im so hooked on the Twilight series, that I can barely put my books down. And since there are 4 books, ( at this time )why not.. have more than one movie ? I also have to agree with what Silver said.. Never underestimate of the power of fandom. And how modest of hoping for a 20 mil weekend opening. If the movie stays true to the book, I think that amount will be much much more than they anticipated it to be.
I can´t either wait for the movie to come out!!
I don´t think it wasted off money to do the movie..
OMG!!!! I cant wait to see this movie and anyone who bags on this movie should go out and get the books!!!! Beacuse you seriously have on idea what your talking about.
Um… I’m 19 and I love these books. I really wish everyone would stop saying only 14 year old girls like this series. People of ALL ages and even GUYS like these books… people underestimate how huge the fanbase for Twilight is… just wait to November 21 and you’ll really see how popular this is… and I can assure you the theater won’t be full of just tween girls.
I am a 50 year old mother of two teenaged daughters. I read the first book because both my girls loved it – bad writing but great story and it pulls you in. Not only do I want to see it on its opening day, but so do my work friends who are also in their 40’s and 50’s. Hollywood is going to be really surprised by how many “women” are going to support this film. It is going to be HUGE!!!!
I loved these books and got caught up in the obsession of each of them. I was glued and I’m in my 50’s. Then along came Breaking Dawn and it ruined all the previous books and obsession. She phoned it in and it was horrible. She didn’t care about the fans at all, she even said she wrote what she wanted, well she lost me Makes me not want to see the movie now that I know how it ends. Yec. I’m sure it’ll do well for the teens.
I read all 3 books with such a passion I was obsessed. I got all my friends to read it. Then along came Breaking Dawn and she ruined the entire series for me. I wanted to throw it across the room, and by the time I was done, I was done with the whole outer body experience I got reading the saga. I closed the book and said thanks Stephenie now I don’t want to see the movie. You took such a great saga and ruined in completely. I’m sure the teens will be out in droves. I’m in my 50’s and up until Eclipsed was just as excited as them. Breaking Dawn took the air out of my sail. Glad there is a sequel, but if Catherine isn’t directing it’ll fall to the waste side.
I know more adults waiting for the Twilight movie then teenagers and I’m the mom of two teens. A boy and girl, only my daughter has read the books, but my son liked the full trailer, said it looked fun.
One of the earlier posters commented on the less then chaste content of the last book and I have to smile. Most commercials are less chaste then what is described in Breaking Dawn in regards to their married life.
My daughter is 13. She has the Twilight calendar, the poster, two bookmarks, three shirts, all the books and all the books on CD. She has already watched the trailer more than 30 times, and she has friends who have watched it more than her. They are currently pressing our local theaters to run a midnight showing on a school night and then they plan to see Twilight again over the weekend and again during Thanksgiving break. Can you say teenage fans with disposable income?
I’m 40+. My friends and I planned to be there right along with them. To see a movie that is romantic at its core with action and just a hint of horror has us swooning already. Plus at a PG-13 rating we can see Twilight with our daughters without shielding their eyes or sending them out for popcorn at the inappropriate moments. If Catherine and cast stay true to the essence of the book and deliver the visuals to match, who cares who produced it and how much it cost to make, we’ll go see it over and over.
No one knows Twilight in here.So I had no love or no hate for Twilight. But I saw on the Net Twilight fans attacked people who didn’t like Twilight many times.Even worse some Twilight fans trashed other young actors to just praise that lead actor.(Other young actors were just my favorite)It’s not devotion.I never saw such a offensive fans.
But I found there are also many Twilight haters.(probabry most are male moviegoers though)
I feel I’m one of them now..
Glad to hear Twilight was also booed at theater.
I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE I AM SUPER EXCITED I AM 23 YEARS OLD AND I LOVE STEPHANIE MEYERS…SCI FI AINT GOT NOTHING ON TWILIGHT….
After i saw Stephenie Meyer promoting her books on Ellen Degeneres i had to have them, i didn’t hesitate to purchase the first 2 reading them with a few days which lead me to quickly purchase the last 2 knowing i throughly would enjoy them finishing all 4 within a week! I can not wait till the movie comes out in november and a sequel im an hoping for definetly, This series reaches many ages male and female alike, Im sure there will be many non avid twilight readers that attend the movie possible going out and making a book purchase just to understand what they have just seen. To each their own if you don’t like what you see then dont bother going to the movie. And for all my fellow twilight fans Rock on!!!
This will be a total hit!! I’m 30, I have an MBA and I’m a financial analyst; and I’m totally watching the movie and dragging my husband along with me! I don’t know why people are under the impression that this is a “teen” series, trying to imply that anyone with something important in their brain wouldn’t be interested in the books!! It’s excellent writing… Very descriptive and compelling…
Now if Summit could only open SEX DRIVE which looks like a big fat bomb. I think anyone could open TWILIGHT. Let’s see how they fare with their other product.
Judging from the reaction from my own 17 year old daughter, who quite literally shreeks in anticipation in viewing the trailers online….I’m guessing this movie will do well….I saw the trailer myself and I gotta tell you, I’m a bit intrigued as well and I’ve not even read the books….
IT will be huge. I work at a hospital with thousands of employees and students and majority of them are reading the books waiting to see the movie…already wanting a sequal to the sequal!!! i cant imagine how they arent going to be able to keep from making more then 3 movies!!!
I am in my mid 30’s and have never been this excited for movie to come out!!!
Its annoying that some people only think that this movie will appeal to a younger audience.
Thats like saying that only younger audiences should watch movies like The wizard of Oz (wich is a major classic)The Chronicles of Narnia,Liminy Snickets,Stardust and ect and so.
who do you think came up witht he ideas for all these wonderful stories? children? no mosst adults write them so why cant we ALL open our minds and enjoy it?
It’s for ANYONE who has an imagination!!!
Where would we be without one? A very boring place if you ask me.
I am in my 30’s and have NEVER been this excited for a movie to come out!!!
It’s gets tiresome when people think a movie only appeals to a certain age group.I mean…thats like saying that only children enjoyed or should watch movies like,The wizrd of Oz,E.T,Stadust,The Chronicles of Narnia and so on. The people in the past who have written these amazing stories I’m sure didnt come up with these stories for only children. They are for anybody who has an imagination.Whre would we be without it? A boring place if you ask me.
CAN’T WAIT TO SEE TWILIGHT!!!!!
This will be huge! I know men and women from 12 -70 that are in love with this series. That is the beauty of it. It reaches across the age lines. I think it will have enough action that if men go see it they will decide they really liked it! I just hope that while Taylor playing Jacob will be fine for pre Werewolf scenes they need Steven Strait for after he is a Werewolf. Taylor just can’t pull off looking like he is 25 and isn’t big enough.
i’m afraid that you are sadly mistaken. people of all ages enjoy the books, and i believe that the same will go for the movie.
i am a fan, but i dont want to go see a movie with a bunch of screaming idiots. long live books! and i think they will make their money back, but not tooo much more after that. people will be dissapointed. fer sure.
I’m 27…all my friends are around the same age, and we’re nothing short of obsessed with the series and are counting down the days to the movie release. I know people in their 30s and 40s who are also anxious to see the movie as they’ve been in love with the series from day 1.
It’s not just for teens or tweens….at all.
Well, I’m a long ways past 14 years old and I didn’t find it boring in the least. Yes, it was a bit slow to start but it developed quite nicely after it did. The series was wonderful. I will definitely be in line to catch the midnight showing–along with my friends in The Twilight Addicts Discussion Club–and I’ll be taking opening day off to go see it with two more friends. I can hardly wait until 11/21!!
I am a twilight mom, my friends are all twilight moms and our teens all loooooove Edward…. I can’t wait!!!!
I tried to read the books, they were awful, not story subject, the book. I bought, for my son -and read, the first Harry Potter book, way before it was on the best sellers list. There is no comparison, Twilght does not come from a talented writer, only one who hooked on to a genre and a time when there is not enough worthwhile viewing for that demographic.
I am 43 years old, and I’ll be going to see this movie on 11/21 with my 12 year old daughter AND my 69 year old mom. We all love the series and look forward to having that scary-hot Pattinson make us fall in love with Edward all over again.
I also agree that it won’t just be tweens in the theatres. I am a 20 year old college student who is DYING to see the movies and I know A LOT of people older than me (i.e.- my 30 year old sister) who are dying to go the day it comes out as well. I think people are definitely underestimating the fan base here. It’s not just 13 year olds.
I’m 44 without kids and am a big fan. And I know I’m not alone as I ran into an friend from high school the other day who I found is also into the saga. As for that, I have permission from my friends to keep their teenage daughters from school to take them to the matinee showings (or midnight showings if they’re available).
I think it will not only do well but will pull in from outside the expected target audience.
This movie is going to be huge! If you have read the books chances are you love them like the rest of us Twilighters of a certain age. It is not just for Tweens!!!I am 38 and I am so going to see this movie and the ones to follow with all of my girlfriends young and old.
The series was amazing..and I am a 27 year old woman. I cant wait for the movie to come out…especially the sequals!
I think the opening is going to have a great outcome,
every one that i know at school is try to get their hands ont he first books of the twilight saga and they are very intrigued by the book. many have read all four books within days i myself read them in 2 days tops. so i beleive the turnout for the movie will be very big. i also have guy friends who are reading the books and no they are not gay!
I am a married 24 year old woman who is obsessed with Twilight! I love all four books and have all the calendars, posters, keychains, etc. My whole family of 20 to 30 year olds including men love this book. I certainly don’t think it will only be teenage girls seeing this movie. I already have plans to see it twice during the first 24 hours alone. I truly can not wait until this movie opens!
I will see this movie several times. Really looking forward to it! I also wanted to add: I loved the fourth book, Breaking Dawn. It was, in fact, my favorite of the series. I thought that it was clever, adventurous and still exuded the passion of the earlier books. Those who have had such a negative reaction to BD, I believe, did not really grasp the building storyline behind the romance of the earlier books. It was the perfect ending!
Like many other 30-somethings, I can’t wait to see Twilight come to life on the big screen. Personally, I think the movie will be a huge success, thanks firstly to Stephenie Meyer’s fantastic books, and secondly to the care given by the production team at Summit. My hope is that enough care has been given to make producing the sequels worth the time, money & effort.
As a fan, I will see them all, regardless. As with Harry Potter, I expect changes. I expect that certain moments that were important to me will be excluded. It happens. If they get the essence of Edward & Bella’s relationship right, and then Bella & Jacob’s, I won’t complain about too much.
And just a note about ‘mean’ Twilight’ fans: You have to realize that these are the minority. It only takes a little bit of yeast to spoil the batch, certainly, but there will always be mean, negative people in the world. Please don’t lump us all together.
I can’t WAIT for Twilight!
It’s funny to me that the most of those here who say “I’m not a teen and I love Twilight” are women… so it’s still not a general audience movie. That said, though, women seem to be the main reason why Titanic did so well
I find it funny that the people who don’t like the books or think the movie is going to bomb always take the time to post their comments. If you don’t care that much then why waste your time? Who cares if you don’t like the Twilight series?? Who cares if the movie doesn’t do well? I guarantee you that even if the true fans don’t like the movie – it’s not going to change their opinions about the books.
I’m 20, and want to see Twilight. But, I’m not anticipating it to be a great film. The trailers and acting is horrible, and I think they already killed the love I had for the book. Anyone else see “Blood and Chocolate?” I wanted to murder the director for messing up the story line for that, too.
Not to mention, only the first book was good in the series. Breaking Dawn was utterly horrible and killed the franchise with the demon baby, etc.
Just my humble opinon.
I visited the set and wrote up a set-report for a well known genre magazine. It was already pretty much set in stone that the sequel was green-lit. The following for this novel series is huge and goes well beyond 14 year-old girls. The fans gathered outside the Portland, OR set were plenty and varied in ages. This flick should do well. And I much prefer the November slot than the previous December slot.
This is how it’s gonna go down people—never underestimate the power of PTA soccer moms with good organizing skills and horrid lust for Robert Pattinson.
They can move mountains people!
They are going to fill up their minivans on multiple outings for Twilight…once with the SO, once with their daughters and their friends, once with coworkers, once with book club friends, once with friends who are dragged unwillingly.
Just you wait…you guys aren’t catching onto the adult female contingent here that spread the good news of TWilight that would put a Jehovah Witness AND a Mormon Missionary to shame!
It’s quite simple… Big book(s), big hit.
Those who read the book(s) will mostly likely see the movie.
Which means, movie = BIG hit. Hence why it was made into a film to begin with.
For all of those, who dislike it, don’t get it, or are bashing it… You simply don’t understand it. Take your negative commentary elsewhere.
If you feel the movie is bad, wake up call?!?! Worse has been made.
Come November 21st, people will be lining to see this movie, and YES, it will be a hit.
And yes, the majority will be women, amon SOME men.
I have a total of 15 friends and coworkers tagging along with me. And yes, there are males among them.
I’m sure the rest of the males, cynics and plain haters can just go see something packed with testosterone. I’m sure there’ll be something out as such for your viewing pleasure.
I am a 31 yr old mom, who absolutely loves Twilight!!! I am completely obsessed. I can not wait til the movies premiere in November, I may even go to the special premiere showing in Orlando, FL @ Universal Studios.
I just wish people were a little more positive and obtimistic. Since when does a book, describe who is reading them? A book tells a story all on its own, there is no need to tell a story about who reads it. This story is incredible, and I can’t wait to see more about it.
I’m 18 and I’m so excited to see the movie!! ill go see it multiple times! I also can’t wait for the production of new moon. I think this series will be great. Can’t waittt :]
i’m 25 and my hubby is 27…we will both be in the theatre that day…i’m soooo excited… do i think the movie coulda been made a little better with a little better special fx? sure…but either way i’m dying to see it
move over harry potter….who wants a nerdy wizard when u can have a sexy, charming, vampire!
holy crap i think this movie wants to be seen by every girl above the age of 13 at least it sholud be
I CANNOTTTTTT WAIT ANOTHER SECOND UGHHHHHH!!!!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am completely excited for this movie and cant wait for the next, im 20 and these books are amazing even if its aimed at a younger audience
To the first comment that “only 14 year old girls want to see this”…you are extremely off point…I’m 26 years old- I have read all the books and yes, I will be seeing the movie. I am one of many, many 20-somethings and older that will be seeing this movie and that’s apparent from all the other responses on this board. The fact that its been coined “tween” is somewhat irritating though.
I have respect for the Twilight series but I am a Potterphile. So I need to give my two scents on this series being constantly compared to Harry Potter. It may be likeable to a wide variety of people. But it has a long way to go to be the Next Harry Potter, so I dont know why jounalists even compare them. That statement might seem biased but its true and here are the facts. Regarding the movies- the Five Potter films out so far have made 4.5 billion dollars worldwide. Regarding the books there have been over 400 million sold worldwide in 64 countries.- Thats a rough estimate on the books. So yes this is a start but its got a way to go.
Instead of an entire board filled with “I am xy years old and will watch the movie a gazillion times and how dare you to critise or dislike my pop culture love”, let us briefly look at numbers, shall we?
If we take into the account the combined sales of all the books and the number given by Ms. Finke is in the ballpark of 7.5 million combined, and we take into account that the last book (usually the most cumulative and hence the biggest sale) of roundabout 2.5 million copies sold in the US, then we arrive at a core market potential of
… 2.5 million hardcore (my apologies for the term, but it is almost a technical term use) fans who will watch the movie, probably more than once.
Now, we have to widen the net a little, because books get loaned to friends, and then they like it (or not) and will join that base, albeit more loosely.
Usually, such a multiplication factor is one of 2.5 to 3, so let’s multiply and we come up with a potentially interested base of roughly 8 million people (I am being generous here, rounding up a little)
Okay, 8 million people, of which roughly 2.5 million are devoted, more or less, based on the book sales.
Please remember, this does not take into account the actual entertainment value of the movie itself and whether it bears repeating viewing, okay?
Okay.
Now we multiply that group with an average movie ticket price of 10 dollars for a simple gauging of the potential market, if everybody I just identified goes out and sees the movie once.
8 million times 10 = 80 million box office.
However, as some have stated, they will watch it more than once, so we have to include that notion into our extrapolation. Given the devotion shown by the Twilight fans, the ratio of those who would watch the movie repeated times I would gauge at roundabout 2/3s of the book’s base, but by that I mean the ACTUAL base, not including those who are loosely connected to it through girlfriends and wives and friends etc, so we have to return to the original number of 2.5 million, and let’s say roughly 1.7 million will watch it on average twice… just for this example…
… that would add another 17 million of box office revenue.
We are now at roughly 97 million B.O, and my best guess is that the movie will make about that much in the US.
I’m 27 and I and all of my friends are into Twilight too. It’s got a huge following; it’s not going to be just 14yr old girls who want to see the movie. My bf and I are totally going opening night–he’s reading the books now too.
The people who think that the Twilight fanbase consists entirely of teenage girls are simply ignorant. That means uneducated. They have obviously drawn their opinions from the media which tends to focus on the fact that it was written for young adults. However, anyone who cares to research the facts at all can clearly see that Twilight has a very extensive fanbase consisting of all ages. Even men cannot deny that it is a good story. While teenage girls seem to be the most fanatic and outspoken rest assured that there are many many other age groups that enjoy this series. Word of mouth never fails and if this movie lives up to its expectation (I have no doubt in my mind that it will) Summit will have a hit.
I find it funny that people are putting twilight down, the writing style and the movie. It’s my favorite series. I read the 4 books in less than a week this august for the first time ever. I think that Stephanie Meyer is better than j.k.r. but that’s just me. But if you haven’t read it, just stop downing it please. Read it first.
…..
It’s such a shame people are stupid enough to fsll for such a crappy piece of writing.
I really hope it’s just a fad.
I am very excited for the movie opening! I loved the books and know I will love the movie. I hope it does extremely well opening weekend. I would love to see a sequel!
jesus christ people give it a chance. If your one of the people who have not even read the series or have just read the first few chapters and are already judging it then you seriously have issues. You have honestly no idea who likes these books if you’re bashing it. “the only people who would like to see this would be 14 year old girls.” seriously? go do some research. If you go to sites such as twilightmoms.com or twilightguy.com it will show you that it is not just teenage girls who are in love with these books. Sure, Stephenie Meyer’s writing may not be the greatest, but that’s not what the fan’s have fallen in love with, it’s the story that is saying something. The characters have so much to offer and Edward is setting higher standards for boys across the nation. Don’t you think that would be a good thing rather than a bad thing? Instead of nitpicking the story itself, look at the general effect that it has had on people. This 500 page book has changed lives, All because a regular mom from Arizona had a dream and had to write it down and share it with the world.
I absolutely love this series! I will see this movie in theatres about 10 times! not kidding.
And I need them to make the rest of the movies!
LOL! OK, which Twilight fansite(s) linked to DHD?
Because I think a good portion of those rabid fans didn’t realize they clicked on a link that took them to an outside site…. This isn’t a fansite where we all only say nice, fluffy things about movies. This place is the LAST site for that.
I swear, this is as bad the Drudge links….
At any rate, I’m 32, female and a huge fan of paranormal fiction and other genre stuff, and I have to admit that I don’t “get” the Twilight madness. I slogged through the first book and promptly sold it to a used bookstore with no desire to read further. But reading these comments makes me glad I didn’t like it — this series has some of the most obnoxious, defensive fans I’ve ever seen. Pro tip: This is not the way to make normal people respect your obsession.
Having said that, I am a bit surprised the a book series as popular as this one got such low-rent treatment in its big-screen translation. The Harry Potter and, in particular, the Lord of the Ring franchises were all able to draw non-fans in with the superb production values. Twilight looks cheap (sorry, fans, but you have to admit it looks like the latest Sci-Fi Saturday night movie). I can’t see it pulling in, say, my boyfriend or my non-Twilight-reading female co-workers.
So it’s going to do crazy business thanks to its squealing tween fanbase and obsessed older female fanbase, but it’s not going to be become a phenomenon like HP or LotR. But it should definitely make enough to get the second movie a decent budget.
i will be attending the opening with a large group of 30-something women and hopefully a couple of guys.
i have no doubt that the movie will do a killing opening weekend, and will go on to do quite well. however, it’s driving me crazy that people are taking issue with the fact that there’s such a huge female fanbase. when was the last time there was such a female-frenzy over a book, let alone a movie based on a book? why is it people are making it look like marketing suicide to cater to a demographic other than males age 18-45?
women, much like men, have disposable income, and as has been evidenced already, we like to spend it.
i can’t wait to see Twilight and i’m excited now to hear that New Moon will be turned into a movie. it was my favourite of the series and it will be interesting to see how they take on such a daunting task as filling in the gaps while Edward is out of the picture.
I am a thirty-something mom who got hooked on Stephenie Meyers’ books a year ago. I have to admit that I love them and I understand that they are not for everyone and I try not to get offended when the naysayers are throwing tomatoes, ruining our fun. I think a lot these naysayers are going to be very surprised when the nonsensical “demographic” is completely squashed and the film does 50 mil in the opening weekend. The critics probably won’t love it, but I am looking forward to being thoroughly entertained! I think it is funny the one comment about Sunday afternoon Sci-fi movies being similar. Get a life and those that find Twilight boring are jaded and nonimaginative!
OK FINE
MAYBE I WILL READ THE DAMN BOOK JUST TO SEE WHAT’S THE BIG FUSS ALL ABOUT.
I cannot wait to see this movie. It will do better than most think it will – at least 30 million. I am in my 30’s and I could still relate to the series just like I was back in high school. Whoever said it was boring, I would like to know what kind of books interest you??!
I am very excited for the up and coming movie. I have been a fan before Twilight was even heard about. I disagree 100% with some of the comments i have read. Her writing is well written, and I bet half of you can not write half of what she has come up with. She is someone before I die that I want to meet, she inspires me to write as well as she does. And btw.. THE BOOK IS NOT JUST FOR 14 YEAR OLDS. Please get a clue.
What do you expect??? This is what happens when a popular book like harry potter dies down on fans and another great magical book like the twilight series takes it place! I amit. I was a pothead, but now I can say I have moved on to becoming a twilighter! There is nothing wrong with the fame that Stephine meyers is recieving and if you are sick and tired of hearing/reading or etc of anything of twilight than start living under rock because that is the only way you will never hear/read or etc about twilight again!!!
ok for all of you who are harping on this- go somewhere else, seriously! You are just wasting your time complaining about the hype and response this film is receiving. I’m a 21 yr in college and I love this story! And just so you know- my freakin 13 year brother even read the damn books! No he is not gay so don’t be a smart-ass asking. My point being that this film isn’t just for 13 yr. old little girls. This movie will surprise quite a few people and i can’t wait to have them all feel like idiots! I’ll agree that Spunk wasn’t the first person i would have cast for Edward , but he definately grows on ya!
Okay, now look here. Whoever said that the 1st two trailers look cheap and sci-fi, WATCH the last trailer. much better, though in my opinion still doesn’t give the best representation of the book. instead of basing your opinions on whatever summit dreams up, try reading an excerpt from the books instead! jeez.
Everyone visit my fansite/blog for Twilight: http://peacelovetwilightblog.blogspot.com. You can find all news and discussions there!
Uh… I’m an adult and I can’t wait to see this movie!!!
Good for Kristen Stewart. She’s a very talented young actress (one of the very few out there in her age range) and has done terrific work in supporting roles over the years. I’m glad she’s finally been given the lead when she’s earned it as opposed to so many starlets who automatically get a lead role without any qualifications.
Its obsessive fan base will see it repeatedly just like they did with Titanic. It won’t even need adult males to turn a huge profit. The only way they could screw it up is by diverging significantly from the novel. If they paint by the numbers, it’ll be like printing money.
This is a response to all the people who thing only 14 yr old girls will see it.
1. If you’ve ever heard of Kaleb the twilight guy theat is proof of the MALE fanbase
2. Parents who want to know what the heck their kids are screaming about
3. Twilight 20somethings
4. I have friends whose little sisters who are still nine reading this proving the wide range in age
5. Guys who get dragged along with their girlfriends or vice versa.
6. The new fanbase who wants to see what twilight is. (people who want to see the movie and not read the books.)
7. Parents who read twilight. (Twilight moms or dads.)
Im 20 and I absolutely loveeeee Twilight! I believe it will open to a very surprising high number to all those who dont think it can make 20mil. My advice: If u dont plan on seeing Twilight on Nov. 21, then stay away from the theaters because Twilight fans are invading.
I can not wait to see twilight but I hate that they cast Kristen Stuart as Bella. I saw the special clip & previews. She makes a horrible Bella, her voice is too deep and rough. She also seems too bitchy, Bella was sweet and innocent.
Oh and to BRY: the movie WAS cast in Oregon though it does take place in Forks Washington…
And this movie will be huge… I am going to see it though I am a little upset about Bella
I agree with the comment about not underestimating soccer moms with good organizing skills and the hots for Robert Pattinson.
What Mom says, goes. That goes for Dad having to go with her, and all her kids on opening day. Moms are going to get the whole family to go, and then they’ll be going with their friends on their own so they can lust after Pattinson even more freely.
You know why moms like Pattinson right? Cause he looks like the love child of Nick Rhodes and John Taylor and Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran. Moms never get over their first crush, and Pattinson’s hair is bringing back the old flames within them! lol
i love the books im thirteen and im absolutely excited about the movies i cant wait till it comes out. and i myself love the cast of twilight
Im 16teen years old and I never Read much but as i read twight It made me want more and more I couldnt think of anything other then what will the next book will have in it. and
I love twilight I think Its the best think to come out I love vampires and warewolves so this book is perfect for me romance and drama and forbidden love. I really like who they chose to be edward its just like I pictured him, bellas okay but still there is some chemisty there.
I LOVE Twilight!!!!!
lol, i’m suffering from O.C.D. I already now at least 45 people who want to see this movie, and i’m seing it with my best freind kathy on the day it comes out. and i’m only 11! I’ve read all the books in less than a month!
i think people just wish that this was a teen/tween thing. because it’s not! i’m 34 years old and totally a fan. all of my friends are in their late 20’s and early 30’s and they are huge fans. this isn’t just for teens. us grown ups have taken a real liking to this series. i know we all hope that they make movies for all the books!
we all are just waiting for the movie to come out. midnight showings if they have them in our areas.. we will be there! if not then opening day.. we will be there! then i’m making a 3 hour trip to see it the next day with the lexicon crew and other twilight fans.
as far as men… no way! my brother in law saw the teaser trailer 2 weeks ago at the movies and came over to my house saw my son in his cullen shirt and goes wait i saw that preview. so i told him about it (he had no clue what it was). he goes well i saw that little clip and i want to see it!
then i have a big manly man of a friend in a high profile business. he knew about my books but just laughed. then he emails me and goes.. wait.. is the books about the movie twilight that is coming out? i go yep. he goes ohhh it looks cool!
so there are plenty of men that have found this interesting. the ones that say such things are nothing but haters and have nothing better to do than to come to anything twilight related and try and spread their hate. it’s not gonna work. our fandom is amazing!
One thing a lot of the people who think “This is a fan girl only movie, it will dissapear after a few weeks” fail to see is that, if Titanic taught us anything it’s that teenage obsessive girls and their mothers will pay to see a movie over and over again. (I saw Titanic 3 times, and i didnt even want to)
I already have a group of about 20 people going to see this movie at a Midnight showing.
I do agree Summit needs to get more TV ads for the movie out there though.
@ nick:
Don’t underestimate the female demographic… they turned out in droves for “Sex and the City: The Movie” and “Mamma Mia” this summer and look how well they’ve done.
Although “Twilight” does have a PG-13 rating as well as a much more rabid fanbase (I refuse to say it’s solely a tween girl demographic, since some guys, young adults and middle-aged women love the series too). And if fans LOVE it, they’ll see it again and again and I have a feeling it’ll outgross “Mamma Mia” and SaTC once 2008’s done with.
Although I never really got the appeal of the books… they’re all right but I just can’t understand why people are in love with Edward and Bella. I’m more of a Potterphile myself.
Twilight has a much bigger fanbase than just teenage girls. This is different than HSM or dumb Camp Rock. Twilight is a powerful love story that will touch millions of peoples hearts… anyone who has read it knows that its amazing.
Jo Rowlings books have more substance to them. I cant name all the mythical creatures and plots that make it what it is. Its a three-dimensional book much like LOTR, and TCON, but Twilight doesnt have any substance it seems like, its just a group of kids with vampires and werewolves. I cant even get through the first book because nothing hardly happens that keeps me interested. Where as in HP, the book kept leaving clues as to what happens next and I didnt want to stop. Sorry I can only hold back so long before I have to speak up. Quit comparing and this wont happen.
I’m a 23 year old woman and I utterly despise the Twilight series, but I do think the movie will make a lot of money. It cost almost nothing to make, and it’s a very popular established franchise geared toward teenage girls and bored housewives. Both of these groups go NUTS when they get really excited about something.
I’m really baffled by the success of Twilight. I mean, I kind of get why these particular audiences like the books so much, but that doesn’t stop the series from being complete tripe. It’s fine to read this kind of material as a self-indulgent thing–I’m not judging that–but really, I liked it better when it was called online fanfiction.
OMG i cannot wait for New Moon and Twilight to come out I am 12 years old (soon to be 13) and these books are absolutely amazing did stephenie meyer ever say when midnight sun will come out i read the first 12 chapters and it was amazing!!
Im an absolute Harry Potter fan, but I must say Twilight is SO much better! Anyone who says that it will be terrible hasn’t read the book, i suggest reading it. It’s amazing!
Btw I’m 19 not 14.
I’m a 50+ mom of a teenage girl. My daughter got me hooked on the “Twilightsaga.” First of all, Stephenie Meyer is not a bad writer. These books are for “young adult” readers. Second: If you like stories about vampires and werewolves, you’ll love these books no matter what your age. Third: The initial trailers for this movie are “teaser trailers” which means the final trailer wasn’t complete. The new-final trailer for Twilight, however, is obsolutely great. Please note: I did not read one of the Harry Potter books, although my daughter read them all. I am a fan of the Harry Potter movies. I am so happy I read the complete “Twilightsaga” though. The images in my mind as I read the books came alive in the final trailer. I cannot wait to see this movie and the forthcoming sequels. The books and this movie have enough action and gore to keep males interested also. Everyone calm down (wish I had Jasper’s powers right now). Take deep breaths. Go see the movie when it’s released and enjoy it for what it is. A good movie.
Ditto – 33, hubby and all four kids hooked. Midnight movie tickets purchased and in the safe. Co-workers, male and female reading or have read the books and have midnight tickets in the Portland area (where the movie was shot). Never done a midnight showing until now. Already plan to go back a little later with hubby as a date – when the dust settles a little.
As for the cast – so-so, I’d almost hope for shake-up. And for Stephenie Meyer. May she be wise with her spoils – She has managed to keep her head through all of this and if you read her expectations from her own website you will find this was a labor of love and whatever comes is what comes. She never asked for all of this she was blessed and cursed with it.
OMGGGGGGGGGG I cant believe that they are going to do New Moon So exited…. Im 19 and I love the Twilight Saga… I know a lot of guys who have read the saga and Guys who have not read it But cant wait to see the movie….so it is going to be BIG jajaja Only 37 Days to GO people!!!!!!
I’m 21 and I started reading twilight at the end of august…… i’m now a huggeeee twilight fan.
Sure, the writing isn’t the best, but the story is great!
looking forward to the movie!
If you say it is a waste of time or money and that it is only for 14 year old girls then you are obviously living on Mars! There is a website just for TwilightMoms and I teach with a ton of teachers who have read the books and are hooked too! So go read it or keep your opinions to yourself! Twilight is awesome and the writing is awesome!
I am a mom 37 years old and I love the Twilight Saga,
nothing wrong the books in my opinion.
Can’t wait for the movie and my brother and his girlfriend are in their twenties and love the books too
obviously we are all going to see the movie when it comes out.
I really think is going to be great
so no is not only teens that are sight about Twilight
I’m 15 and I’m not the BIGGEST fan of TWILIGHT but I enjoy them alot and when i found out it was being made into a movie i was happy cuz I always pictured it to be one. Now that there has been soooo much talk and all the fuss with the movie being made the fan-base has gotten HUGE! I mean I can’t go to school ONE day and Not see any girl without one of those books! Even the football players at my school are reading them now! My mom has read them, she almost 50, my brother has read them,he’s 13, and basically evry1 at my mom’s work has read them-and they ALL are going to see that movie!
So I personally hate it when people call us just a bunch of little girls- Twilight may be a tiny bit cheesy for my taste, but the Jonas Brothers its not!
THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE BIG!!
Bella was sweet and innocent? Little Miss Spoiled Brat of 2008? That’s a hoot.
ok, although there are many many twilight fans that are male, most of the people watching are gonna be female. so what? since when is it a since to have a female fanbase? is everyone in the world really such a sexist pig that they wont go see the movie because too many females are gonna watch it? there are just the same number of males in the world than females if not more, so what do women have to do with anything? twilight is gonna be an amazing movie and yes, it wont win oscars and it will never be directed by steven speilberg. but how come everybody always has to put things down just because its not a big-studio film? the movie will make enough money to make new moon. other than that factor, why dhould we care what harsh critics tihnk of it? we true fans love the cast, the director, and beautiful story of a man and woman falling in love. (and yes they are a man and a woman because edward is technically ancient and bella is wise beyond her years). the fans will love it because it will be about them. thats all that matters. so for all you people out there that say “this movie will suck i hope the movie bombs” seriously no one cares about your opinion on the matter, because you wont be deciding how much money the movie makes. so go ahead make a statement and dont watch the movie. million of people around the world will.
i am stoked for this movie.
if you’ve actually read the book instead of just complaining about how shitty the movie is, you would love it too.
so twilight haters out there should not trash talk something they know nothing about.
:]
women are statistically the most loyal viewers
Like my momma always said first you win over the gays, then the women, then the rest of the world. Then you KNOW you have a hit.
SO EXCITED.
I will see this movie mutiple times. I love the series and have enjoyed a summer full of fun with my children.25,23, 21 ,19 and 16. We will be attending in three different states and attending often. I am forty eight and my 76 year old mother is coming with us at midnight when a huge group of friends will see it for the first time.
Wow, underestimating the hype of Twilight fans in a HUGE way, which is a shame.
First, don’t you know that many of the greatest movies of all time are PG-13, but that doesn’t stop them from being great. Screw age. The stereotypical teen girl screaming is just the louder side of the fanbase. Haven’t you ever heard of the Twilight Guy? Twilight Moms?
& if this wasn’t going to be a huge deal, why are there stores who are making official merchandise? (Like Hot Topic).
And I’d say that the over 2 million views in 24 hours is saying a lot. And it’s about the highest rated video on myspace too.
This movie will do well.
BY THE WAY, you say that most of the fans of Twilight were female.
Well most of the fans of Titanic were female too, and people still love that story 10 years later.
Oh, and if you go in IMDb.com, Twilight is the most searched movie that hasn’t come out yet, on something that is called the MOVIEmeter. (The MOVIEmeter is basically the most popular movies being searched on their website.) And oh yeah, since last week, Twilight has improved 166%. Not sixteen. One-hundred sixty-six.
I read the Twilight series because my Granddaaughter’s friend recommended them to her and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I majored in English in college and while the writing seems deceptively simple, there’s a sweetness and power there that grabs the reader and seeps into their subconscious.Daughters, grandaughters, sisters, and even ourselves want to be with and loved by someone like Edward ,vampire or not. Stephenie Meyer has created the epitome of male love and kindness, nobility and self sacrifice, and we love him {and her}for it.
I think this movie is gunna be so freaking huge! I can’t wait to watch! I’m so pyched!
I think people who are making judgments about this movie, especially without even reading the books are just ignorant jerks. While the series was included in the young adult book section, that doesn’t mean that the stories were written or geared specifically toward 14 year old girls. In fact, and Stephenie Meyer will tell you this, she wasn’t writing this with the intention of selling it in this genre. So those of you claiming it’s going to be some pre-teen lame game, get a grip and do some research before you start bashing something you’ve never even read.
This movie is going to be great, and I say this knowing that the author herself approved the script. How many of you, who have had your favorite novels turned into movies, can say that? A slim percentage at most.
I guess the days of actually thinking before posting no longer exist. Naysayers, your failboat has arrived. All aboard.
Hello. My name is Yolanda, I’m 34 yrs old, I have a 13 yr old daughter & 4 other step kids ranging in ages 14-4 yrs old……& I am a Twilight-a-holic.
My then 12 yr old daughter told me I should read the books, but I “never got around to it”. Then, a lot of people on my LiveJournal started talking about them & I decided I’d cave in & read them.
I read all 4 (yes, I LOVED Breaking Dawn!!) books in less than a week…..my family had to fend for themselves at dinner, but I couldn’t put the books down! I have already reread Twilight & am currently rereading New Moon. People are seriously underestimating the fandom. It is frigging insane!
I like it because it is completely different from all the other vampire books/movies out there. It’s a modern day love story. If I thought I even had a slim chance of getting tickets on opening night, I’d be there in a heartbeat. But I’m going to force myself to wait a few weeks til it calms down a bit……….
Trust me, “we are not prepared”.
I’m 21 and I love the Twilight saga. I’ll be in line at midnight to see it!! I think it will do well its opening weekend. I know 2 girls from work and their husbands will be going along with me and my boyfriend. I think this will be HUGE!
Well I don’t think just teens are going to like this movie,I got started kind of late with the moonlight series with Mick and Beth(became very hooked) on tv. But since then I can’t wait to see this flick,I think it will be really good.I have all 4 books and read all 4 books and so have several people I work with that are my age and I am 54.
You either like these kind of shows or you don’t,so for those of us that do like these shows please don’t spoil it for us by being so negative.
I agree with Barb,It would be great if there was more nobility, love, self sacrifice and kindness in this day and age, were all going to need this at some point in time in our lives, the love story is very good as with MIck and Beth the guy’s just happen to be vampires.
For everyone who is saying that no one but teenagers will like this… you’re wrong. I, and lots of my friends, am in my early almost mid 20’s and we can’t wait for Twilight. It’s a wonderful story about never ending love. Love that surpasses a ton of obstacles. It’s amazing.
Okay so the whole ‘vampire tween movie’ thing is getting old fast. I’m 18 and a huge fan, all my friends who love the series are ranging in age from 16-22, my mom & several of her friends have read all four books and they’re in their 40’s so can everyone PLEASE STOP saying that..
But I’m not going to lie, I was one of those girls screaming when the Twilight trailer came on..
CANNOT WAIT FOR NOVEMBER 21ST!
Are you kidding? Im 37 and cant wait to see this film, and will do over and over again, love storys are ageless!
to: alyssa:
Twilight and HP? Like apples and oranges. I have no idea why the two are even compared other than for lazy media purposes.
HP is epic..Twilight is about a smaller, but very intense scope. It’s not trying to be HP in any way shape or form.
I’ll be watching it at least 4 times, with four different groups of people. NOtice what I said…GROUPS.
Twilight FAns….WE DON”T DIE….WE MULTIPLY!
And guys? If they had any brains would totally got take their ladies and dates to go see it, so they can look all sensitive and get all sorts of lucky post Edward Cullen viewing. SIMPLE MATH, DUDES!
I think that comparing Twilight and Harry Potter is just flat out annoying. They are on two completely different subjects and have no justification for comparison beyond both the authors are female.
I am a fan of both and will continue to watch both progress regardless of what people say. They are both good in each respect to its own and need to be left separately to completely enjoy both.
I’m 21 and my fiancee is comin’ home from Iraq a few days before the movie comes out and believe you me, we are gonna be at the midnight showing with Twilight Tees on
I love these books SO much I work at Borders and let me tell you we sell atleast 5 copies a day and its a VERY VERY small store so thats HUGE for us we have to re-stock atleast 3 times a week!! and the books just keep getting better after Twilight… I am worried about how New Moon will be as a movie cuz honestly I hate Jacob LOL so I hope that they go into what the Cullen’s are doing during their time away… really though, I’ll sit thru New Moon to get to Eclipse (my fave) and Breaking Dawn (A close 2nd) I do wanna see how they are gonna make Jacob “Grow” hehe cuz he’s suppost to be like 7ft and all big and stuff…
I personally love the book series and at times, the scenes in the trailers look a tad bit cheesy, but I still grin with excitement every time I see them. I think its going to be a MASSIVE hit and the actors careers will skyrocket! I am excited to see what this movie will turn out like.
Gross. Not another one. I’m already sick of Twilight (and it hasn’t even premiered yet!)
Though, it might be fun to watch, if you like crappy movies.
I’m 23y/o, from Brasil, and I’m a HUGE, truly obsessed Twilight fan… and so are many friends of mine, all of them +20y/o….
I think some people just don’t get to dream, not even a little, and have some fun reading a book, watching a movie…
No one has to like Twilight – I have some friends who didn’t like it as well… but to say bad things about those who like it, saying it’s stupid, it’s just plain mean and sad… It’s sad seing how some people can be so bitter!!! Lighten up, go live your lives some more, and try smiling a bit more as well!
I’m sure the movie will get A LOT in Brazil – the fandom is crazy!!
twilight is going to
kick some butt!!!
and for all the guys out there
they are just jealous.
Well… I am a 19 year old girl, who can’t wait to go see this. For those of you commenting on this that have not read the books, you really don’t have a clue what you are talking about do you? Kristen Stewart is one of the most talented actresses(played a rape victim in the movie Speak and did a excellent job) in Hollywood today… and Robert Pattinson is one of the most talented people…(acting and music) in hollywood today. I do agree that some fans are a little bit insane, but hey, they are probably 15 and don’t have much else to think about. I read all these books and couldn’t put them down, I think the film will be wonderful, the location they shot the movie in is beautiful, and after seeing Catherine’s Lord’s of Dogtown, and Thirteen…I am stoked to see what she pulled of with Twilight… I don’t understand why people feel the need to be so negative towards someone’s interests. If you go read the book and you don’t like it… fine… that’s your opinion… whatever… but honestly… why are you dwelling in the negative…. live a positive life…. find something you enjoy and stick to that… if you don’t like twilight…. then don’t talk about it, don’t comment on articles just to be rude. Trust me, you’re life will be a lot more cheerful.
have a lovely day, all!!! <3
I don’t understand why people who dislike Twilight even post on these things? Get a life. I don’t go to your boards & diss on whatever you like.
Anyway!
I’m 18 years old & I love Twilight. I know about 40 something people, men & women, all over the age of 16, who will be going to see the movie. My boyfriend is going. He never liked the books but says that the movie looks pretty good!
I really think people who have never read the books or been a fan are underestimating the series.
I personally see it being Huge! I’m not saying it’s going to beat The Dark Knight, I’m just saying I think it’s going to do way way way better than anyone thinks.
I really can’t wait for them to make the rest into movies, i really hope they do!
Im 21 and I can’t wait until this movie comes out! I was late in reading the series but read all four books in 5 days! they were amazing I hope they make a movie for each book!
This book and this movie is not souly for 14 year olds.
I’ve loved these books since they started in 2005.
I will DEFINITLY be at the midnight showing the night
it comes out, if there is one, and probably 3 more times in the first weekend alone!
I can’t wait!
wow. I am so surprised by the amount of support this film is receiving. Although I am a Twilight (book series) fan myself, I have no plans to watch the film. It seems to me that it was quickly and roughly made to make a profit off of the books’ popularity. There is no doubt that this film will have a very successful release, however, I believe that success will only be based on the success of Stephenie’s books. I really hope that a lot of fans will be prepared for a huge disappointment – that is of course if they do not convince themselves that the film is good despite its lack of creativity.
Sigh… well well well… Twilight is not only for teens, of course not! Is for 30 middle woman with a shitty sexual life too!. Admit it. The only appeal of Twilight is “Eddykins hawtness”. This is not going to be BIG. Seriously. Anyone here read Breaking Dawn? “Don’t burn it return it” Anyone?…
The movie looks crappy. Sorry.
“You are impossible fast… and Strong… you skin is pale white and ice cold…” WTF?.
And please look at the numbers… the fanbase are teens and 30 middle woman. Obsessive, yes, but I don’t think they have the money to go and see the movie again and again. People outside the fanbase are gonna think “Oh this is another paranormal romance movie…”
And this thing, I mean the “Twilight craze” is mostly a “Bomb” in USA and UK. Harry Potter was a mundial bomb. So it’s not comparable.
Oh and by the way, if the are gonna do a New Moon movie, what is gonna be about? Bella goes Emo for 4 months… is that possible in a movie?, in Eclipse well I don’t think the fad is gonna live for that, and Breaking Dawn?… Yeah sure… They are gonna do a movie about a sex-addict!Bella and her Rosemary’s baby, The demon of spawn Nessie… Yeah Sure…
Oh and yes i’m a TEEN, a “young adult” actually, and yes I read the books… I had read better stories in Quizilla or Fanfiction.net
people really need to stop making judgments about something they have no clue about. If your not interested in the movie, then fine good for you, but dont waste your time leaving comments on something your NOT INTO! so tell me why are you here? reading about twilight? As for us Twilighters we will be at the movie opening day and im 21 yrs old and my friends that are coming to see the movie with me are from the ages of 19-23 therefore this book dont only caputre 14yrs old girls!
Also i will be taking a couple of males with me that are around my age!
anyways,
Im extremly happy that they are making new moon into a movie, so that means that we will be excpecting eclipse and breaking dawn turn into a movie as well…
yay!
its a bloody love story, i love Twilight, i cant wait for the movie, but people who think the books are boring piss me off. its a love story, its not supposed to be all action, if you cant get into a great love story, of course your not going to enjoy the books or the movie. Stupid!!
26 days!!!
I’m 17 and I’ve loved Twilight and I’m almost done with new Moon. The stories moved me and I can say a I haven’t read something so well-written in a really long time. So I’ll be looking forward to see this film and it’s sequel..Twilight rules!
i’m a male 15 years of age. i was given this book to read by a friend, it took me weeks to get around to reading the book and once i picked it up i just could not put it down. i think people are just underestimating this film because it is really just a love story. i have never been a fan of the romance novels/films and i’ve never really read a book :/
but this is one that will stick with me for years, i truly love this book. i will be dragging all my friends to see this film like five times ;P
adam.
I am dying to see this movie, i am in love with all the books, i used to be an avid anne rice reader, and there hasnt been anything that has come close since these books. Although they arent as in depth, or erotic, i loved everyline on everypage and couldnt put the book down, I hope the movie lives up to the books, it’s always sad when they dont for example, queen of the damned.
Plz publish midnight sun stephenie !!!
O.K. I AM 61 AND I LOVE EVERYONE OF THSE BOOKS !!!! I HAVE READ THEM ALL AGAIN AND AGAIN. I WILL BE THE FIRST IN LINE AT THE MOVIE AND I CAN’T WAIT. I THINK THAT STEPHENIE MYER DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE STORIES IN EACH BOOK. I CAN’T SEEM TO GET ENOUGH !!
I am a 31 year old mother of three and I can not wait to see this movie!! I read the series in less than a week!!!! I plan on seeing the movie at least twice during opening weekend!!! I know many MANY woman my age who are INLOVE with Edward Cullen!!!
Niki I read the first book after reading a NY Times story about the movie and I was shocked at two things. First it’s poorly written. The characterizations are weak and not well rounded. Second I’m 100 percent sure that the book is a success because it’s basically softcore pornography. I kid you not that you get pages describing this vampire kid’s pale skin and rippling muscles. It will get a good opening weekend but I doubt it will have the legs of a Sex and the City. Also I just read the book the HBO show True Blood is based on and the content is similar, although I think Dead Until Dark is a superior book.
This has become such a phenomenon in such a short time, more people are going into it after watching the trailer. So I’m guessing by November there will be even more new “fans” of the book willing to see it. I’m just worried about the size of this and hope Summit doesn’t sell out for the next movies, they should do the same thing they did with Twilight and it’ll work. The actors don’t worry me since they are quite down to earth and it is their first HUGE blockbuster movie. But its future is up to the audience and how we react to it, and I’m sure I’ll be watching it more than once
I absolutely love twilight. Im a guy and im not ashamed of it. the books are amazing. I think itll be more than a 50 mil opener. Me and like 10 friends are going 2 c it openin weeknd.
This is incredible news – thanks for sharing! BTW, I want one of those calendars that you mentioned Border’s having, haha.
Emily

First of all, Mrs. Meyer’s name is spelled Stephenie. Just an FYI.
And yes, you will be blown away by the money this movie will rake in on it’s opening weekend. And for the record, this book’s (and so movie as well) followers are not only teenagers. I, myself, am 35 years old. And I am completely in love with this series! It’s one of the most well written love stories I have read – comparable to Jane Austin. Yes, I am aware that it is also a vampire story. And while I am not usually drawn to those types of stories, I was blown away! Do yourself a favor and actually read Twilight. Then I dare you not to go out and buy the rest of the series. My husband read them all, and loves them as much as I do!
Twilight and it’s fans continue to be a scary come from behind phenomena.
That’s ok, I didn’t see Harry Potter coming till my friends dragged me to the first film in college and I fell for it. This time I’m at least aware enough to take myself to the theater – incognito of course I don’t want anyone SEEING me there, because it looks smarmy. Like the lowest common denominator in Vampire Romance.
But hey, I’ll give it a shot to prove me wrong – so long as the tickets are free just in case I’m right.
I’m with the people here who say the movie is going to be a hit. I’m 25 and I read all 4 books (in a week!) because my younger sisters-in-law were crazy about them. I started them with the intent of screening them for inappropriate content, but to my surprise they were great books! I couldn’t put them down! Since reading them last week, I can’t stop looking for new videos/trailers to watch and I’m really excited for the movie to come out. I’ll be there with one sister-in-law on opening night.
My only problem with the movie so far is that I think they could’ve done a better job with casting… maybe it’s just because I imagined Edward as being bigger/stronger (and with a different “look”) and Bella as being more meek and sweet/soft. Also, it seems like they’ve changed a few of the crucial scenes, but I’m sure they had a good reason for doing so. Hopefully after this movie, though, they’ll have more money to put into the next one to make it even better. And I hope I won’t sit there comparing every tiny part of the movie to the book. I’m wondering, though, how are they going to make Jacob look over 6′ tall and buff? Haha
.
@ Stephanie:
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. I’ve read the first book, but didn’t feel like continuing with the other books. The trailer really doesn’t look anything special, but then again, some really good movies have some really off-putting trailers (and vice versa).
I bet the studio honchos at Warners, Fox, Sony and Universal are kicking themselves for failing to pick up the rights to “Twilight,” being that for a popular series of novels, it’s much more cost-effective than a superhero flick or a CGI-intensive HP flick. Even if “Twilight” grossed $100 million domestic, that would still be a huge payoff for Summit considering the low production cost and modest P&A cost.
And since “Twilight” is so cheap and quick to make, Summit can feasibly pull a Lionsgate “Saw” strategy and release a sequel each year in November until they reach the final book. (If they play their cards right… I think the OW take would encourage an immediate greenlight for the sequel, but they would have to move quick if they want to release the sequel next November.)
im a 18 year old GUY, my moms friend let her borrow the book, which i picked up and read-with the rest of the series. ive read the hp series, but tw is far more descriptive and umm intersting. like people say i dont think lil girls will be going, a lot of people curious to see it will watch it, i just hope they dont screw the movie up, and keep true to the book. im takin my gf to see it. (shes not a reader)
I think that you are very wrong – Stephanie Meyer didn’t evenintend on the target reader audience to be 14-year old girls, it is just the way it is being marketed. I know of many adults who are looking forward to this movie – any vampire/werewolf fan would agree I think!
Thanks to all of the guys admitting that they like this series! I am so sick of people saying that it is only for 14 year old girls, that is just the way it is being marketed. Sure, maybe it isn’t as intense or mature as “Dracula” or “Interview with the Vampire”, but I still think that the books (I am on the last one)are extremely interesting and addicting. And, being a vampire/werewolf fan, I am excited for the movies.
Well, I’m 20 and belive it or not, there are allot of people who will be going to see this movie who aren’t “tween” These are the people who have been with Twilight fron start, when the now Tweens couldn’t read such a long book. My roommate and I are going all out for this movie, dressing up Alice style, dinner Edward style, and fun Emmett style! A day does not go by that we don’t say, “I wish Twilight was here”
So don’t for one minute think this movie is going to bomb. People of all ages or going to see it, my DAD wants to see it! My little 7 year old niece wants to see it! I think it’s fun for the whole family!
Oh and did I mention I run the “Twilight Saga” myspace? I get huge numbers of fans each day saying they can’t wait for the movie!
Oh but don’t worry, if it sucks (In a bad way) you all will know.
i think the fact that there’s so many people who have commented already on this shows that $20 mil opening weekend is a huge understatement. i think twilight is going to open closer to $100 mil than $20 mil and may very well end up around $150 mil to $200mil. why? twilight has that odd appeal where everyone is talking about it and you want to go see it just to know what everyone’s talking about. i honestly think twilight is going to be a massive payoff for summit.
actually i read this book back when it first got published.
and i’m only 16.
but i re-read it again. i absolutely love this series.
my cousin is 25 and she loves the books.
so this movie or book series is not just for ‘tweens’.
you guys are ridiciouls. stephanie myers is a genius…let me see you come up with a book that million of people read…yea i think not. don’t hate, apperciate. Of course everyone is not going to like what her book is about, but you don’t got to be such a pompous idiot about it.
Wow! There a lot of comments praising Twilight! Because of that, I’m going to have to lower my expectation of its first weekend.
This movie is almost dead everywhere except on the Internet. It’s like Snakes on a Plane and Grindhouse – to list just two recent flameouts that should have been box office kings based on their fanboy support.
I expect the release week tracking on this thing to still suck pretty bad. Even the online support is a little weak.
A quick snapshot example? You have more right-wing commentators at DHD criticizing “W” than you have fangirls professing their (honest) enthusiasim for “Twilight” and their (less than honest) demographic information.
Twilight Fangirls: Temper down the hype. You can watch the Twilight trailer every hour to boost its views if you want, but if you don’t visit the theater the same number of times, it doesn’t really matter – sort of like winning a People’s Choice Award.
That news is AWESOME! New Moon lends itself to a better movie than Twilight does – there’s a lot more variety of emotion, the Italy sequence will be completely visually spectacular, Bella gets to do her jump off the cliff, Alice gets to drive her yellow Porsche – and, let’s face it, there’s just not enough Jacob in the Twilight movie to keep all the Taylor fans happy
AHHHH I can’t wait!!
PS If they’d open in Australia on Nov 21st, there’d be no question of demolishing that $20 million estimate. I think that’s too conservative anyway. Twilight has to be the most anticipated movie of the year (sorry, fans of Bond and The Dark Knight – but it’s true
). If the trailer was any indication, the movie is going to be phenomenal.
I am a 35 year old working mom of three and am not ashamed to say that I love the Twilight Series. I’ve already read them twice, working on book again before the movie is out. I simply adore Edward and Bella. I can only hope there is a sequel.
Comment by Daria — October 13, 2008 @ 10:05 pm
Ditto! Looks like a made for TV movie. And I am supposed to be fascinated by this?
Darn you WB. I demand you bring back Harry as initially agreed for the Nov 21st slot.
I ring in at 44 yrs old. I loved the series and am in the process of rereading (on the 3rd book) and enjoying my time with it.
There are so many of us moms, some with teenage girls, some of us with boys, who like the series and look forward to opening night.
I hope the movie is good and does well. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
Twilighters ROCK ON!!
People who think that it’s just teenie girls under 14 going to see it might want to think again! I’m in my 20’s and many of my college friends and I will be going to see it! Many of my girl friends are dragging their boyfriends along! I also know plenty of 30 and 40 something adults who enjoy the series as well. Despite a super shitious 4th book ending the series, the first 3 were quite good!
I’m in love with these series, and I’m 59. Yes, you heard me right. 59. Turning a ripe old age next week.
I can’t believe that some people would have the nerve to think that this was a teeny bopper movie aimed at teenagers. I don’t believe that.
Heck, I’m in a nursing home and I spend every waking minute I have annoying my roommates about this that they warned me they would up my meds.
Twilight will become a huge hit, believe it or not. So sit down and watch, listen, and be quiet. Listen to the person before you judge ‘em.
Oh, and one more thing…
TWILIGHT WILL BECOME THE NEXT HARRY POTTER.
Man, I feel 20 again…
@ Harold:
Again, I really think you’re underestimating the fanbase of these books. “Twilight” and its sequels had a HUGE following even before the movie rights were picked up by Summit. Add to the fact that fans are going nuts over the promotion (both online and actual P&A), I think that enough fans of the book will see “Twilight” in order for “New Moon” to get the greenlight.
Never ever underestimate a big fanbase, particularly one with similar grassroot effect like “Harry Potter” (although the fanbase is attracts more girls than boys). Then again, it could a bomb. With Hollywood, things are never easy or predictable.
I am also a thirty-something (33) who is completely and utterly obsessed with this series. I’m already doing everything I can to find out how I can get assigned seating tickets for the very first showing in LA.
This movie could be horrible (after seeing trailer #3, I am now starting to think that it won’t be and am thrilled) – but even if it doesn’t live up to the books, it will still blow the doors off of theatres due to the demand and popularity of the series.
This is an EPIC love story with a great horror/thriller twist. Remember…we aren’t just fans. We are the Twi-Hard FANPIRE.
Okay, I am a geek -but c’mon! This is a HOT property.
I’ll confess I enjoyed the book and I’m 42. It was just a good read and it was nice to see media with no sex and drugs mentioned.
I’d love to see them combine New Moon and Eclipse in order to give the movie some depth. I fast forwarded through the Jacob/Bella portion to get on with the Edward/Alice portion. Filling in with some back story scenes will be a must, I think.
In any event, I will be paying my hard earned money to see Twilight!
I am 30 year old father of three wonderfull kids. I used to give my wife a hard time about being reading the Twilight series nonstop! Seriously, I think she read the entire series 5 times through now and she kept buggin me to read them that I would really like them. So after over a month of nagging the TV was off for the day and I started reading them. I COULDN’T PUT THEM DOWN! I had to get up to go work in the morning at 5:30am and I would stay up till 1 reading. I am on my 3rd read through the series. Love it…and no I am not some emo guy. I work in the coal mines and usually work out in the afternoons. You know, macho stuff.
Harold: here’s some basic facts. SM’s last installment of the Twilight sereis moved 1.6 million copies in it’s first day. Twilight’s soundtrack isn’t even on sale yet, but it’s the in the top 5 sellers on amazon.com.
So, to think it’s just a small number of fangirls refreshing to watch the trailer is a bit off.
Is this going to be as big as Harry Potter? Hell no. But this movie was made for 37 million dollars–it doesn’t have to be as big as Potter. It’s going to be a hit if it makes 70 million, and most conservative estimates are banking on at least 100 internationally.
Just some perspective here-it’s going to be a moderate sized hit, but for how much it was made for, that translates into a big hit comparatively.
anyone who hasn’t read the books wouldn’t understand the pull this story truly has. i know it’s a bit much and may steer away some because of the whole teen/tween craze but it really is a great story. i am 28 and am every bit excited as the youngster, not to mention my 39 year old husband.
“i don’t think anyone other than 14yr old girls want to see this…

Hey! I’m 14 and I think the series is shit.
Twilight sucks! http://www.twilightsucks.com
If I see this, I’m seeing it on a different ticket.
Twi-tards.
For all of you that can’t say anything nice about the books or the movie, why say anything at all? I mean, come on…go spread your negativity elsewhere. You may not have liked the 4th book or think that the movie is going to be “terrible” but you don’t need to spread your negativity to adoring fans.
I will admit, most movies do not do a novel justice, but then again look what Peter Jackson did for Lord of the Rings. This movie may also be an exception. There aren’t many places where dramatic special effects need to be used, really this movie is to give faces to the starry-eyed hopeless romantics.
So all you over thirty-something’s (men in particular) what are you doing reading a romance for teenagers anyway? If you can’t see the books for what they are and their intended audience why bother reading them?
this will be so great! btw, this is not ONLY for 14 yr olds. To Each His Own.
yeah I am a 21 year old female and I am in love w/the books and the movie is going to be amazing, and I have very many friends around my age and older who LOVE it…so there!
I’m 21 years old and I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with the Twilight series.. i already read the books twice… i just cannot wait till the movie comes out… the books are amazing.. and stephanie meyer is an amazing writer when it comes to vampires…
What are they going to do for a sequel, fifty minutes of “O NOEZ EDWARD IS GONE BAWWWWWWWWW HEYLOOKIT’SJACOB BUT EDWARD IS GONE BAWWWWWWW” ?
That’s about all they can do.
Pfft.
Whoever thinks this movie will make any less than $40 million OW is in for a rude reawakening come Nov 21. I am predicting closer to $60 million–around “Sex and the City” numbers, only this time it’ll be millions of YOUNGER rabid fanwomen going instead of millions of older rabid fanwomen.
I think there are alot of people anticipating this movie, I am 26 and just finished the 4th book, and i am so excited to see the movies for these books, hopefully they will make all 4 into movies. I think there will be definatly a bigger female audience, due to the love story, but i think it will be a hug hit everywhere!
I’ve read the books and absolutley LOVE them! I am a 38 (almost 39) year old wife and mother of three. I’m very excited about the movie and hope to see all the books made into movies! As much as I hate to go sit in a theatre packed full of noisy teens, I’ll suck it up and go see the movie on the 21st so that I can contribute to it’s opening weekend success. Stephenine Myer is a wonderful author and I am so happy for her sucess in this book series! Hope she will bring us Midnight Sun in the near future because I just can’t get enough of Edward Cullen…. :0)
@tooearly: I wouldn’t say that! My father is eager to see the film after having read the book!
Okay, I’m 14 and am in 9th grade. I know over 1/4 of my student body here have at least heard of the twilight saga. Actually, our school opened a book club JUST for Twilight fans. Also I plan on going with at least 20 people to see the midnight screenings. Twilight will have really big sales regardless of it;s good or not.
Twilight is huge. Admit it. The facts just don’t lie. At my school for our book fair we had twilight movie posters . . . they were sold out in one day. And everywhere you look someone has one of the books. Twilight will definitely get good ratings, even if it sucks because people will want to watch it for themselves. Afterwards however if it does end up like Eragon did (ugh) New Moon may not have as good of profit. But the first will definitely set a record.
The writing is amazing, and these movies will be bigger than Harry Potter, no money is being wasted on making this movie. I am taking that day off along with five of my friends, theres no way this movie wont do good. even if it doesnt do good (it wont) the first time people see it alone will make good money. and when it does awesome people like me will go see it time and time again till it comes out on dvd!!! =)
**And this is coming from a fan who has read all four books t least twice and went to the midnight release for the finale book!!**
This movie is going to be huge !!! Trust me, I am the mother of a 14 year old . The trailer plays non stop in my house, and the books are re read as soon as she finishes them. They are making big plans for the opening and I estimate that my daughter and her grade will watch the film at least 4 times. Bigger than Harry Potter……..
I am 29 and loooove the series. I am super excited about the movie. I am going to drag my husband out to see it with me.
I am i fourteen year old girl and living up to the sterotype. I am absolutley in love with the Twilight series. But the reason i got so hooked was because my moms work. They started passing around the books and they all fell in love and i started wondering what kind of book could be so amazing that 14 to fourty year old girls would not want to put the book down. I go to an all girls high school and almost every girl in the school has an unheathly Twilight addiction.
The moment i picked up the book i couldn’t put it down and therefore i read all four of the 500-700 page books within a weeks time.
I hope the movie doesnt let me down but all i know is that everyone of my friends and there mothers read the Twilight books and none of the moms are a shamed.
So i know that every mom and daughter in the neighborhood, and a few guy neighbors will be lined up to see the Twilight movie on Nov. 21 :]]
I am almost 25 and I love the twilight series. Sometimes the story may move slow, but it is a timeless tale of love that seems unattenable. My entire myspace is devoted to my own twilight obession. My boyfirned who is almost 30 has also enjoyed the series, in fact enjoyed it so much, that he is writting where SM left off, and his extensions have been amazing. I don’t know why people are so anit-twilight, people get obessed over the littlest things, don’t get so bent out of shape because a movie is going to be popular and you don’t like it for one reason or another, just deal. Suck it up. Not everyone likes gory and voilence, not everyone like action, horror, and everything else, people like differnt things, which is what makes this country great. If you like it great, if not fine, just quit whinning about it.
SO many people are going to see this movie. The books are beyond amazing. The guys that don’t go to see it need to swallow up their pride because chances are that they will probably love it. I can’t wait.
By the way, I’m seventeen. And a lot of my teachers have read this book. IT Definitely has gone way beyond 14 year olds.
i know that the main audience for the film will be made up of teenagers, but i hate how they are making it seem like the book/movie itself is childish…because its not at all…it has many interesting concepts but they are making it into this whole “kid fest” and now guys and older young adults or adults in general are ashamed of liking the novels…
im a 25 yr old mum and loving the whole twilight series. i went awol while i got right into them (it took me a week to read the four of them, as a mum of a toddler lets just say i didnt sleep much!) and then when i snapped out of it my husband was very pleased that the books seemed to give me….a new lease of life shall we say? there is nothing aboutg these books that says to me that they are just aimed at teens, they’re brilliant for any age.
and as for the casting in the movie it looks fantastic, im really not getting all the negative comments, keep it to yourselves. rob pattinson as edward cullen? perfectly ‘inhumanly beautiful’. icant get that face out of my head!!!
I’m 20 and was starting to get out of YA lit and more into other literature. A friend of mine (who is 23) was really into the book series and got me and a few other of our friends into it too.
Over the summer we went to one of those midnight book releases for the final book. I must admit the fan base of tween girls was so great at the Borders we were at that we left and went and purchased the book at a Walmart at midnight instead.
On the note of a New Moon movie – I think that if they don’t stick to the story the audience that has never read the books won’t fully understand the impact Edward’s leaving had on Bella and Jacob’s relationship.
I am 27 years old, and I love the Twilight series. It is definitely focused on the younger age readers, but this is a very pleasant read for any age. If you are above high school age, it will remind you of your high school experience (new school, first boyfriend, fitting in, etc.) and if you are in HS, you will connect with Bella. I cannot wait until Twilight comes out, and I will see New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn if they make them all. Also, you cannot make a decision on these characters until you read the series. You see them grow up (mature, they are vampires), just like they do in Harry Potter. One more thing…My husband watched the trailer with me, and commented that the fight scene looks pretty entertaining. It was great to read, so I hope that the special effects really brought it to life. It may not be a typical vampire moved, such as Underworld, but it will definitely have something for everyone.
Um, I know MANY people over the age of 14 that will be devoting their whole day to the movie when it comes out! Quit showing your ignorance.
I have read every single book in the Twilight Saga, minus the one that isn’t published yet; Midnight Sun. These books are written in so much detail that you can literally picture every thing that happens. I read all of the books in less than a week. Five days to be exact, and let me tell you I don’t read that much. I have friends who recommended the books to me, and I refused to be part of the latest craze sweeping the nation. However, after I read the first book, I couldn’t put the others down. They are ADDICTING!! I have actually gotten other friends to read them and they have had the same reaction. I am 17, and a senior in high school. I’m PROUD to say that I am a fan of the Twilight saga, and if you haven’t read the books yet, well you should. Because they just keep getting better.
The books are wonderful and the movie and the actors will be wonderful as well. I to am well over the age of 14.
ok. so i have to admit at 23 i just read the twilight books, and I am AMAZED!! I love these books. Ms. Meyer has done an amazing job at hooking you within the first few pages. I read all four books in 8 days. I am more of a true crime reader and I love these books! I believe that those who don’t think the movie will big have obviously not read the books!! The movie is going to be HUGE!!!!! I cannot wait for it’s release! Please don’t knock it, until you see it. Just because it is a love story, doesn’t mean it’s going to be terrible and lack action or adventure! Props to the movie makers and Ms. Meyer!! Keep those movies coming!
Ummm… excuse me. Im 16 years old and I happen to want to see this. Robert P. is super sexy. Although, I do believe Hayden C. would have been perfect. Anyone else going to line up in front of the theatres opening night?
The Twilight series were some of the best Vampire stories I have ever read. My daughter also read the books and she had never finished an entire book in her life. Bravo to Stephenie Meyer! She did an amazing job writting the series, and I can not wait to see the movie. I am of the many that purchased the calendar and the posters for my daughter (who thinks I am a pretty cool mom for it) and I also don’t mind looking in at them at times (sigh). I have already told my girls that they can miss school to go to the movie on November 21st.. so unless you have read the books, please don’t leave an opinion.
My mum wants to see it! its an amazing book i can’t wait for the film
Since when is stephenie meyer’s writing horrible? i personally think she is one of the greatest writers of all time. I mean,, she’s got nothing on Shakespeare and Dickens and such, but she’s better than J.K. Rowling, even J.R.R. Tolkein. and she’s a great role model. I love these books, and even though i have my doubts about the movie i know that i will be one of the first to see it.
Someone above said they hope this movie bombs out, and I totally agree.
I’ll join in on the chorus and say that I’m an 18 year old female who only finished reading the series because she was hoping – with some desperation – that they would get better, to much disappointment.
It scares me to think of all that time, money and film that could be potentially wasted on Bella moaning, groaning and angsting in the books to come.
I guess the up-side is that we won’t have to endure Meyer’s obsessive need to describe every single detail of, well, everything.
It’ll be a good film for all sexually frustrated females who can ignore the text’s blatant disregard towards feminism.
Will I see it? Maybe if I see a line without an abundance fan-girls.
mmm im 25 yr old and will be 26 when this movie will be out and i love the books so does my aunt and u would believe the middle aged women i seen at all of the Barnes N Nobles book party releases. So just a fyl for ya!! More than 14 yr old girls will be waycthing it!

Like brittney, I too am living up to the stereotype. Though, I’m only 13… This saga is so addicting, I couldn’t put it down from the first day I started reading… I rushed washing dishes, so I could finish reading it! It was soo amazing, no lie. Like most Twilighters here are saying, this saga is just a sanctum to us, to get away. Everyone, I mean, EVERYONE of the females in my school have read it. And even some of the males as well. My close cousin, whom is 27 years loaned me the first book, because I requested to find out what everyone was raving about it. After keeping the book for a month, she actually gave us the first one so we could complete our set, (We had already purchased the other 3), and she bought another one. Even her 30 year old boyfriend is reading it/listening to the eBooks. I’m not kidding, I won’t be surprised if I end up being the first in line, ditching school so I could watch this movie… And possibly the sequel. I LOVE TWILIGHT! Team Edward Cullen/Jacob Black!
…
Or
Team Edwob Cullack!
I am a 34yr old Twilight Mom and I love the whole Twilight book series and my 7yr old son is even looking forward to see it.He thinks it rocks! I don’t really think Stephenie was aiming at any one particular age group. She is the same age as me and personally I have wanted to see a vampire movie where it is not so gorry. And this centers around a forbidden love between a human and vampire and his love for her but at the same time trying to resist his urge to kill her. It has suspence and romance and I think it’s an awesome concept and I look forward to the movie on Nov.21st
this movie is aimed for a younger crowd but if you would actually read the books or read abt the meaning of them at least you would realize these books relate to everyone!! anyone who tries to act like they think this book is stupid because it is for “tweens” are ignorant, disney movies even make major bucks from adults and this movie is no exception to being set for teen and it being relateable to adults
I think it is gonna be amazing and they will do all 4 books in a movie because they can and they will they said there wouold neve rbe more the 1 or 2 harry potters i believe there on Number 6 now am i not correct
I’m crossing my fingers that the studio does well. Considering the demographics, this looks likely. The large ‘girlie-teen’ base will help draw in others; you only after consider such factors as boyfriends, family and peer pressure.
I also believe that many Harry Potter fans will further feed Twilight as many will be interested in any take on something ‘magical’. Others may consider Harry Potter a little childish and outdated (although will still see the film) whilst Twilight will appear darker and older (even though both films are approximately the same character age wise).
Like I said though, it will just be absolutely thrilling to see Summit do well.
I believe it’s gonna be a HUGE hit!!!Everybody talks about Twilight!!!When we see this reaction before the movie comes out,you don;t expect the movie not to be a hit! I absolutely belive tha tit’s gonna b a great movie(maybe not as perfect as tha book, but still good).Plus Robert Pattinson has the lead role *sigh*….so HOT!
I am 18 years old and love the Twilight Saga.
I never even heard about it till I heard all my friends go crazy about it becoming a movie. I started reading the 1st book last weekend and finished the Saga. I could not put the books down. It kept me wanting to know more and more. I was up till 5 in the morning one night because I could not stop reading. I love the books and I am really looking forward to the movie. I even got my sister hooked and shes on the 2nd book right now and started reading the 1st book yesterday. I hope these movies will be just as good as the harry potter movies. I am also addicted to those and was sad when I realized the date for the movie was moved back, but now that Twilight has taken its spot I have forgotten about it!
These books are amazing!
I only hope the movies serve them right.
I am pretty sure they will.
The characters are Dead on.
I just hope it pulls at your emotions the way the books do.
I love the Twilight series of books! I am 40 years old and the majority of people I know who have read and love the books are in their 30’s and 40’s. I really don’t think that these books attract just teenagers. The story is timeless…
I cannot wait for the movie!
omg if high school musical made 82 million on opening night i think Twilight will make much much more plus with a new moon movie that will bring in a lot of money if twilight comes out to be a great movie which i bet it will
Ok, me personally want this movie to come out NOW! and the 13-15 age line?!?! STUPIDDD. I’m 17 and im’a huge fan of these books, having read them 3 times [all four] including the first chapter to midnight sun which is on the authors web page. Well to get to the point here…. everyone who keeps acting stupid about all this can stfu because i can assure you that if you even open the books and read the 2 first chapters you will just fall in love with them, TRUST ME!!! i love Stephine for writing these seriously! well i’ve said my peace about this!
-celese!!!!
Im not in the stereotype range (17) but i did read all four books in 6 days. &n i’ve never finished more then 3 books in my life time! &n to have finished these 500-700 page books in 6 days time is just great! My friends told me that the world was going to end because I of all people was reading everyday, in every class! so yea… these books are amazing! &n to people who have not read these books dont have the RIGHT to be saying all kinds of shit about them! I know that some people dont like or understand these books but there are people who do! so keep your mouth shut and we will all be happpyyy!
I can’t wait for the movie to come out. I am 40 yrs old and began reading the books a few weeks ago. (I heard so much about Twilight, I had to read it.) I was so engrossed in the book, I went out and purchased the other 3 books. I have been drawn into the saga and want to see it “come to life” on the big screen. I hope Summit contiues with all the books!
I don’t think it’s just going to be tween girls. I will be going to see it with a couple of friends my age. I think the stories have mass appeal – vampire story without the gore spelled out. Leave something to the imagination of the reader.
I will be standing in line on November 21st. And I can’t wait!
ok, for all the people who say this film will be crap you’re STUPID!!!! for others that say only tweens like this series you’re even STUPIDIER!!! ALMOST EVERY GILR in my school has read the entire series and i know of at leat EIGHT teacher who have read and loved the books and FIVE guys who’ve read them 2. the books are amazing and the movie will be great. why are all you haters so obsessed with commenting about this movie if you supposedly hate it so much????
awfully glad to read all these over 35 twilight fans! I’m 37 and I couldn’t let go of the books this summer. Yeah, the characters are teenagers, ok, but so were Romeo and Juliet – please, please forgive the comparison, I’m only referring to the age thing.
There may be many flaws to the books, sure there are, but they are still addictive, even for (very) experienced readers over 30s. Easy to read, fun and intense. A little too chaste, thought, for 18 year olds today, but, oh well, I can live with it.
And yes, I will watch the film as soon as it arrives to my country.
I just turned 30 and I loved the books and can’t wait to see the movie. I don’t think age is a factor here. Afterall, S. Meyer is not a 14 year old girl but a woman with a great imagination.
Geesh…I am one of 3 moms over 35 who will be at the first showing in my area at midnight. Never thought I would feel so old after reading some of these posts…yet we are very excited and loved the books! A truly good love story is appealing to all ages.
Okay seriously I dont believe that there is a specific age range for this book and by the way me being an avid reader have found it very hard to get interested in a novel since I was like sixteen, but when this book came out I couldn’t put it down. I own all three now and plan to own Midnight Sun as well. I DO NOT believe that this is horrendous writing. Personally if you have a problem with it then dont go see the movie. It is simply not right for those of you who want to SMASH and BASH the movie and the book to come on the fan sites just to rain on the rest of our parades. Let those of us that enjoy the book and WANT to see the movie have our fun.
I loved the books and every time I see a trailer I get all excited. My husband, who hated me reading the books (he’s not a reader), has even agreed to go see the movie with me!! I’m in my early 20’s and loved the whole series, I read all 4 books in 3 1/2 days. It looks amazing, before you bash it, check it out. The industry has come up with ALOT of awesome ways to do effects, what makes you think this movie is any different? I’m wondering how they’ll pull off some of the amazing things my imagination could only try and come up with!
Wow, yes I may be a 17 year old girl but trust me this isn’t only for tweens/teens. I have my 21 yearold sister inlove with this book, also my 51 yearold mother, my grandmother, my 24 year old brother and my boyfriend. So I’m sure this will be a hit and hopefully will make the rest of the saga and soon Rob Pattinson will not look like a 17 yearold Edward forever.
I’m 18 i have been a twilight fan since the first book came out in 2005 i have waited three long years of my life to see this movie and it is finally coming out i am so excited. this movie will be huge i now lots of people in my home town are dying to see it. i just can’t wait any longer. it is also good to know that summit is going to make New Moon into a movie. i think that a lot more people will go out and see that one because there are a lot of jacob fans who would like to see it. i also know at least ten guys who like the movie so i am sure that it will not only be girls in the theaters on November 21st anyway i have to go
LONG LIVE TWILIGHT
i´m from germany and we´re so sad that twilight starts here at the 15th january. but i can say… : most of the fans are older than 14 . younger kids don´t read so “thik” books here xD
What’s all the hassle with the “age” thing? I am a 52yo mom and grandmom, and have read the entire series….quickly!!; It took me just one and a half day to plough through “Breaking Dawn”. I believe that it is important to stay young at heart, no matter age, and I’ll be reading books like the Twilight series until my eye sight goes! lol! Isn’t every girl/woman a sucker for a dramatic and fantastic love story?
I am very much looking forward to seeing the movie, and am just very annoyed indeed that it doesn’t come out here in Denmark before February 2009!…Aaarg!
-Terese
I absolutely love the book series, it has nothing to do with age or gender, the story is just amazing, and the way it is told is beautiful. Twilight was the first book that I refused to put down until I finished reading it. I finished the first three books in four days and the last book within twenty four hours of buying it. Stephenie Meyer is an amazing writer and storyteller. I just hope that the movie lives up to the hype and doesn’t end up embarrasing the books. Personally, I can’t wait to see the film, and neither can thirty of my friends, we’ve all bought our tickets for the midnight showing, and I’m sure it will be great.
P.S. For anyone who insults the series, read the books first, if you still don’t like them, or the movie, I’m sure there are better uses of your time than going online simply to insult a great writer by bashing her work.
I’m almost 28 years old and i cannot stop reading these books. I’ve never been so engrossed in books the way i am with these. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. I cannot wait to see the movie and i also hope the other 3 books are made into movies!
If you’re old enough to remember the movie “Dirty Dancing”, which was a silly & sweet little romantic film in the late 80s but had women returning to the theaters over and over to see it, and went out to gross a ridiculous amount of money, you’ll see how “Twilight” can become a blockbuster, no matter what the reviews say, if the fans are smitten. And considering the popularity of the book series it’s based on, I can easily see this film grossing $100 million total.
im over 14 and i want to see this people of all ages love these books and want to see this movie so dont make assumptions just like that. i will probably be 18 or 19 when breaking dawn is a movie but hey im gonna see it the day its out
CANT WAIT 11.21.08
I just have to say that for all the people that down this movie have not read the books, my sister is the one who got me to read Twilight and then i was hooked. It’s one of the most beautiful stories i have ever read and i am 23 years old. I can’t say the movie is going to be just as good because they usually never are, but i would recommend this series to anyone.
I am 35, all of my friends interested in Twilight are 30-75. I love the entire cast but Rob is my fav for obvious reasons. Rob is a brilliant actor and extremely humble. I loved “The Haunted Airman”, “Bad Mother’s Handbook” and cannot wait to see “How To Be” and “Little Ashes”! I am sure Twilight will make a huge amount of money and the movies to come will be filled with expensive special effects. From 15 to 85 the age range on the fans is absolutely incredible!! I’ve never witnessed anything like it! I have been invited by 11 different friends to see it in 11 different theaters and as a fan; I have accepted all the invites. We have the power to bring the other books to the big screen if we all get out there and support it on opening weekend!! Let’s hit that 150 million mark for Catherine!!!!
Twilight is downright amazing.
I’m 47 and my friend 48 and we love the book. I’m definitely going to see the movie. My daughter (17) and my son (20) going for sure.
I cant wait!!!!
Don’t underestimate the fandom
Whether you think it looks like a “sci-fi special” or it’s your brand of heroin, twilight fans are dedicated and numerous.
fandom + friends of fans + family of fans + people who enjoyed the trailer + 65% of myspace users + people who don’t know what else the hell to watch = Big bucks for Summit
And the twilight guys are slowly coming out about it. They might not be the die hards but they’re going to see it.
when is new moon suppose to come out?
I just want to say that I think all guys should read these books because it will show them what women want. Bring back chivalry fellows. We want romance and manners. Hold the door open for women. Do right by us. Read the books to get an understanding.
I am a 35 y/o male from the North East and I love the Twilight series. I think the reason why there are so many young fans is simply because they can relate to the character of Bella. I am sure many women out there can relate to the ‘new girl’ in school trying to find her way home again and falling for someone she knows may not be the best thing for her in the end. Isn’t love cruel?
Though there is a huge tween and teen fan base for these books, don’t be fooled by the screaming girls. The series has loyal fans in men and many women over 30.
I saw Twilight and it was AMAZING!!! As long as they use the same cast and follow as closely (or closer) to the book as they did with Twilight, it will be amazing as well. Stephanie Meyer did amazing writing with all four of the books, especially for writing them all in 5 years. I hope all of the books are made into movies! I CAN’T WAIT FOR NEW MOON!!!!!!!
I was so worried that Catherine was going to smash and burn this movie. But I have already seen it twice: Midnight Premiere & Last night. I’m also hoping to get to go again tonight for free. That movie was amazing. Of course some things were left out, added, and changed. But what movie doesn’t do that? I was expecting horrible things! But I adored it. All the characters grew on me. I certainly hope they will continue the series, everyone I know is already dying for it.
This writing was no where near horrendous. The movie was great and the books are even better.
I saw the movie twice on opening day (midnight then again at 7:00PM) and loved it both times. Of course I read the books before and was a little disappointed by the ommissions that they made but it was great. I was impressed by how close it was to the book. In fact, it felt like rereading the book, because as you read, you see it happening in your head. It was super close, and I’m very happy about that.
I can’t wait to see the next one. “New Moon” is be amazing, and I can’t wait for Jackson’s acting skills in the birthday scene.
the twilight series are directed for the teen/tween age group, but, although the writing quality is lacking, the plot and characters make up for it. Edward Cullen is the personification of the perfect guy. The books were amazing and the movie was almost better.
Notice how none of the doomsayers from the beginning of this have anything to say now that the movie has hit the theaters… and I have to say it really HIT the theaters. It nearly doubled the record of revenue of a movie directed by a woman. And I know plenty of people including myself that have seen it 2-3 or more times so far. By the way… my friends and I are all 20-30 years old.
I am 23 years old and I loved this movie. I thought it was awesome…
I just started reading the books saturday and I’m mesmerized by them. I’m 36 and don’t care if they are targetted towards teens. A good book is a good book. I ended up reading New Moon in one night because I just could not put it down. Now I can’t wait to see if the movie lives up to the book. There are many women I’ve met in their 20’s to 50’s who have read the twilight series and loved them.
i have read all of the books, and was a little dissapionted about the movie leaving out some of the que parts in the book twilight.but alltogether i thought it was amazing, the director was brillaint, and steph iz a brilliant writer!i cant wait to see the next movie, my boyfriend and i are waiting in antisipation.:P.even my mother and my grandparents wana see it now.
umm it was definitely amazing, and for the 1st comment it was not only 14yr olds so no. it was absolutely great and i will be expecting the hopefully 2nd movie to be just as wonderful. so doubters, get your hopes high because thats how great the 2nd movie will be.
i saw the movie on monday following it’s friday release…and next thing i know i have read all four books of the twilight saga by saturday! it’s addicting!!
I am 25 years old and The movie was awesome, seen it 4 times. I thought the plot worked well and it was well put together considering it was low budget. I also read the entire series before hand and I was glued to the books! Not to mention my 4 other friends enjoyed it too. Looking at final numbers (and rising) for the movie.. looks like we got a winner! can’t wait for #2
I don’t get why they keep saying that Twilight is a tween thing. They’re not the only fans. Hello! have you read Twilight?? I personally think that Twilight is more of an adult book especially New Moon to Breaking Dawn. So come on, if the movie is doing great in the box office, give some credit to the rest of the fans which are 20 yrs old and up.
Yaaay for TwiMoms! and TwiGuys! haha!
I agree with the ladies on saying this is not just for the teen girls. I have just turned 41 and seen the movie trailers on the tv and thought that looks interesting. I had not even heard of the books until I did some research on them. I recieved them on a Friday afternoon and had read all four books by Monday afternoon. They are addictive and puts your mind in another world. Funny part is I am not a reader at all. Loved all the cast that played in the movie. Would of liked it to show a bit more action but on a scale of 1-10 I give it a 9.5.
Stop saying that twilight is meant just for teens at age 14 and up. My aunt went to see it and she is 41! She is also reading the series and she loves them! twilight is not meant for just a small age group, it is meant for every twilight fan out there. Wehther your 14 or 40.
to whom ever thought that only 14 yr olds watch this you are crazy. im 43 and i thought this was the best movie i had seen in a long time.i have a 11 yr old that cant set still though a movie ever untill this one this movie is 100 times the movie as harry potter, now thats one thAT I CANT SET THROUGH. THANK YOU SANDY
I read the books, yes all four in 8 days! I have seen the film twice (and I will go again). This story has created a nostalgia with romance reminiscent of my teenage years (I am 40 something…)
The casting of the less than A list actors has worked magic for the storyline and will catapult the 4 book saga into the HP class fan base. Stewart and Pattinson will forever be known for Twilight.
Every woman who remembers her first romance should read the books and see the movie. While Hardwicke did an awesome job with the first movie, lets hope and pray that Summit gives Chris Weitz enough budget to do NEW MOON the right way.
I haven’t read the book, but I have seen the movie two times until now!!! I want to see it again and again!!
I can not wait for the other Tilight movies to come out. I saw Twilight 3 times! I love!!! Hurry and make the other movies!!!!!
