Updated with video from tonight's "Fire David Letterman" rally (see below):
10. “David who?”
9. “Well, it was nice of CBS to provide the catering.”
8. “We should have done this years ago.”
7. “What idiot turned Broadway into a pedestrian mall?”
6. “Isn’t there always a crowd demanding Letterman be fired?”
5. “March around the potholes, people.”
4. “Can we also get CBS to bring back Gunsmoke?”
3. “When does Cheney get here with the waterboarding gear?”
2. “He should apologize for that hairpiece.”
1. “Thanks for coming, Regis.”
A few dozen protesters turned up to tonight's “Fire David Letterman” rally outside the Ed Sullivan Theater. According to New York Magazine's website, videographer Jonah Green learned that they watch Fox News, hate socialism, and think that Letterman "rapes children with his mouth." Oh, and they really, really like Jay Leno:

7. NBC already in talks to give him a 9 o’clock show.
7. Wow, this transparent ratings ploy is even better than the swine flu diversion that got the taxpayer-funded bailout/executive bonus payout story off the front page and Kathleen Sebelius confirmed by the Senate with lightning speed!
Dave doesn’t need to be fired. He just needs to retire like the rest of the people his age are doing. Time to enjoy his golden years in a Florida retirement home while some young whippersnapper in his 40s takes over. That’s how it works in the rest of the world.
Letterman rules
How perfect, there were a total of 15 protesters counted today and 37 media people were covering them. Like the whole Palin/Letterman episode, a total non-story stretched out day after day after day……
Good for Dave in getting some good jokes from the mindless drones who decided to stand outside his theater protesting.
I would love for just one person to actually say that when he told the admitedly dumb joke, they thought he was refering to a 14 year old girl……if I remember corectly, and I think I do, only one Palin-daughter has a history of getting knocked up in High School, and that would be the 18 year old girl, who is of legal age and is a “mature” parent of a little boy and, therefore, should be “mature” enough to take a joke, even in poor taste.
Please, someone, please…..claim that you honestly thought he was talking about the 14 year old girl. Prove that you actually exist, and take your public scorn for being among the foolish few who are looking for a reason, any reason, to keep Sarah Palin relevant.
Let me try, Mr. B.S.
Here’s the context of the joke. We start with Sarah Palin is “slutty.” Then we go, with joke #2, to Gov. Spitzer, who has a taste for whores, is a problem for Mrs. Palin and she has to worry about her daughter around him. Then we tell the audience, that Mrs. Palin took her daughter to a baseball game and the joke is, “During the seventh inning A. Rod knocks her up.”
So (and I’m a writer) here’s how you write the joke in your head before you write the lines: “The Palin females, one and all, are sluts and whores and particularly vulnerable to womanizers, particularly those who aren’t too discriminating about age and status. Give any one of these women an occasion — the cosmetics counter at Bloomingdale’s, a visit to New York’s wild and woolly streets, a seventh inning stretch — and they will reveal themselves to be whores at worst, ‘easy’ at best.”
Did the writer or writers of the joke articulate all that around the writer’s table? No, they didn’t have to. They, like you, know the party line, live it every day, unquestioningly.
As for saying my name, no thanks. I work in Hollywood.
Clearly Letterman is doing HIS job, as this firestorm is only happening because he is.
Letterman is still the King. If you’re at all interested, here’s the current order of pop culture relevance in the late night comedy world: Dave, Jon S., Maher, Conan, Colbert, Ferguson, Fallon, Handler and then all those other tools who should just go shit in the street.
But they are whores, especially the fourteen year old. I know this to be true because my sister’s neighbor’s brother in law’s younger cousin has a kid who tutors a boy in home-ec whose fraternal twin sister is in her gym class.
So there.
What a farce. Letterman made a JOKE. Some thought it was funny. (I did.) Some didn’t. But for Sarah Palin to use something so trifling and ephemeral as a transparent rallying cry to whip up conservative support for her inevitably doomed Presidential candidacy in 2012 is simply pathetic. That hypocrite should stop worrying about other people’s values and spend more time moralizing at home to her teenage daughter that had a baby out of wedlock.
BTW, I’m not a Democrat.
B.S. Factor.
If you’re not as ugly as your comment, you too were probably having sex in high school. You might or might not have accidentally gotten your girlfriend pregnant, based on chance. Getting pregnant is not a scarlet letter and all of you hypocrites who had pre-marital sex need to shut it. Also, in case you missed sex ed, it takes TWO to get pregnant. Interesting how it’s always the woman who is vilified. Palin’s daughter is not in the public eye. She did not drag her kids around, and her family was no more in the public eye than any other candidate (nor did she do a cheesy Entertainment Tonight family special like Obama.) Setting up a foundation to help teens does not mean you are choosing to be a celebrity. Has the world grown so perverse that helping others becomes an easy excuse for the torch-bearing masses to have their mob fun.
The slut and knocked up joke simply weren’t funny. It was facile and sexist and hateful, and reveals much about the juvenile and depleted creative powers of the writing staff, and about Letterman for parroting it, and about CBS for airing it. Are you people capable of making fun of a woman without sexualizing her? It’s a sickness.
Letterman has been waaaay over the top vicious about Palin since the campaign, far more vicious than he’s ever been towards anyone. To the point of pathological.
Women are fed f—ing up with it, day in and day out, the endless sexist garbage layered into everything. It’s just too bad that it’s become a conservative side show.
“Liberal” women, shame on you for not speaking out against it because you know full well the above is spot on. You fight against the sexist spray every day. You are making it convenient to dismiss by allowing it to become a political football. Palin’s political views are not defensible, but criticize and mock on THAT basis, and leave the kids out of it.
David Letterman remains the best in the late night comedy genre.
Letterman lost Embassy Suites as an advertiser off his website. He may have lost on-air sponsors too, hence the apology.
Fewer people than ever watch TV. Ad rates are dropping. It’s a recession. Dave’s habit of catering to the NY/Hollywood “bubble” has bit him in the behind.
He’s gutless (won’t take on Obama who is hilarious with his polygamous relatives, half-brother who’s refused admittance into the UK over a rape charge … of a 13 year old girl, his Lady McBeth Wife, lunatic preacher, general weakness before dictators, etc). Yet goes after a non-issue Middle American Pol’s 14 year old daughter. Which is stupid … nobody, not Dave, not Conan, not Kimmel, can afford to lose viewers. And it’s not as if we’re getting lots of young people either, or at least White ones. [Hispanics watch Spanish language TV, go to Nielsen's site and check it out.]
Dave’s problem is he thinks it’s 1985, a booming economy, lots of young people, and ad rates going up. His potential viewers are so small, and advertisers so spooked, he can’t afford to tick off significant segments of them. YEah only 15 protesters. But imagine the calls and pressure to get EMbassy Suites to drop out. In short, it’s the demographics dummy!
It was a bad joke.
The way you can tell is that it’s part of the Palin saga, which itself has been nothing but one long, bad joke.
None of them fit the key demo, who cares what they think?
Did Palin not whore herself out to McCain and her/his collective Republican party? WINK! Did she not appeal to the lowest common denominator, hence, whore-ing herself out to every Joe Six Pack? WINK!
Does she not hunt endangered species, namely WOLVES, whilst armed via a most convenient vantage point– aboard a helicopter?
WINK!
WINKY. WINKY. WINKY….all the way home.
Palin would be insufferable were she not so fantastically laughable. WINK. Where is Ann Coulter?
I got to start watching Letterman more, cause if these crazy hate filled loons hate him, I love him!
Okay, take a look at the video at about 1:53 and the only thing of brilliance in all of this is Howard Stern’s cohorts, Richard Christy and Sal The Stockbroker, engaging in a little male mouth-to-mouth for the benefit of the camera.
Obvious, here is the real truth about your false prophet Palin. I don’t work in Hollywood. I live in Alaska. Just like your false prophet. Here in Alaska, she is doing her damnedest to overturn Alaska’s constitution to limit civil liberties. Why? It’s obvious, Obvious – she’s Jesus’ personal messenger. She truly believes that. She lies – she says one thing and then does something completely different. She’s also vindictive as hell. I can just imagine how many people will be jailed or shot to death under a President Palin regime of terror (I’m exaggerating of course; at least, I hope I am).
Let me ask you something. If Palin can’t handle a stupid joke about her daughter, then how the hell is she supposed to handle things if our country is ever attacked?
You may support Palin but, if you truly work in Hollywood, then she doesn’t support you. Hollywood represents what is “wrong with America” (her words). How does it feel supporting someone who wants you to fail?
If you’re a conservative, there are other choices out there. Be careful who you worship. Otherwise, the only thing you’ll be writing is your resume as you look for that next temp job.
Obvious-
You’re a writer? Get another line line of work. I fell asleep halfway into your explanation. Get over Sarah Palin. She’s not going to be anything more than the ex-Governor of Alaska. Letterman did his job. Nothing more, nothing less. Bristol Palin was fair game the moment she was pushed into the spotlight by her Pageant Mom.
How perfect, there were a total of 15 protesters counted today and 37 media people were covering them. Like the whole Palin/Letterman episode, a total non-story stretched out day after day after day……
Then, we get Sarah Palin on the Late Show which scores 20 million viewers while Conan’s only viewers are the population of Cleveland…
North Dakota.
Dave turned this PR tempest in a teapot created by Michael P Leahy (dude’s on Twitter @michaelpleahy and is a self-proclaimed ‘top conservative on Twitter’) into comedy gold last night on the show…amusing running gags galore.
If you look at Leahy’s blog he’s got a book coming out soon that he needs to pimp. He’s a ‘conservative’ (whatever the hell that means these days) desperate for media attention & the other ’supposed to be inflammatory’ posts he writes (Alinsky’s rules rewritten for conservatives or why Colin Powell is no longer a ‘real’ conservative, anyone?) clearly weren’t working for him so he should thank God/Jesus Dave made a dumb joke about Sarah Palin he could use to get in front of the press in the first place. Of course Leahy better make the book plug soon because the clock is running on the general public interest factor for this event.
The almost funny thing were the protestors in that NY Magazine video, but in good conscience it’s hard to laugh at them because clearly they were ignorant of a lot of things (I’m pretty clueless about sports but A-Rod plays basketball? Seriously?), the most pathetic thing being the ringleader of this PR stunt will sooner or later hit them up to buy his book. It’s sad that the protestors got caught up in this faux activism (I’d like to see the petition with the 40,000 names on it to fire Dave, where is it?) but that’s what comes of corporate media controlled by an oligarchy…Fox News clearly had a grand time using them as a mini unpaid reality freak show, a flash-in-the-pan mob if you will. So did New York Magazine who I guess wants us to laugh at the ignorant protestors (while Fox just wants its audience to get angry at something insignificant instead of putting energy into working on real problems our country faces or noticing them firing people at Myspace etc)
By the way the ‘Howard Stern’ guys snogging behind Ranty Conservative Lady Protestor is getting to be more tiresome than rickrolling…it might have been funny if this weren’t the umpteen-millionth time I’ve seen it. We’ve already seen that joke guys, you got all the laughs you’re going to get from it, now move on & come with some other jokes please.
Should Leahy chance to read this, extreme conservatives are called ‘reactionaries’…’radical’ applies to an extreme liberal. ‘Radical’ & ‘conservative’ don’t go together just like a bad David Letterman joke the rest of us have let go and a book plug we’re not interested in hearing.
The lesson here is..you don’t make fun of someone else daughter..no matter how funny it is.
If you do, then be prepared to pay the price.
So yes, he deserves what’s coming, period!
I think the biggest problem in all of this is that instead of using this situation to say something positive and productive–Sarah Palin easily could have come out and said she was upset by the inappropriate jokes that Letterman made and noted that it points to a larger problem in our society, where it’s become okay or even encouraged to be as denigrating as possible with little regard for the person on the receiving end of the joke, even to the point that we’re now throwing young girls under the bus (which, IMO, would have been a fine response even though I personally don’t think the joke was that terrible), but instead she made a statement that was completely inflammatory, taking a vague & yeah, probably misguided, comment and reacting as if Letterman had said “haha, wouldn’t it be funny if Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old got raped, cause, you know, that family’s a big old bunch of whores.” And now there are legions of crazies banding together based on something that was never even said . . . sigh.
I don’t care if you despise Palin NOTHING justifies the ghastly comments Letterman said about Palin and especially her minor daughter on national television.
It was the 14 year-old that accompanied Palin to the game and to say viewers should have thought Letterman was referring to the 18 year-old is a really sad attempt at CYA and brainwashing.
Furthermore to say the same so called joke is acceptabe when directed at an 18 year-old is as nutty as a Squirrels breakfast.
To say such a thing on national TV about any young woman just reaching the age of majority who has had a child out of wedlock is pretty slutty. It’s despicable.
Some defending Letterman say it was ok because the daughter not at the game was an advocate of abstinence and therefore fair game. That too is outrageous. So she failed to achieve that goal it doesn’t make her a hypocrite.
I an neither a fan a left or the right.
Letterman should have known better. He’s jumped the Shark on this one. People are pissed with this anything goes anybody can say anything about anything about anybody.
Those that feel this is being over blown, I got news for you, Most the people that say this comment are appalled.
Hollywood lives in a bubble.
Sarah Palin is being manipulated by a lunatic fringe minority and she doesn’t even know it. Fifteen protesters tell you everything. It makes about as much sense to fire Letterman as it does to keep the Coyotes of the NHL in Phoenix. Oh, wait, they might do that. Never mind….
Just a point of fact: Letterman actually has made fewer Sarah Palin jokes then Leno or Conan. SNL made more then a few tasteless ones, but instead of demanding an apology from them, she appears on it.
As to Bristol Palin, she stopped being a private figure when ’she’ decided to become a spokesperson for the Candies Foundation to promote abstinence. Oh, sorry they call it ambassador. (Did the Palins ever look at the Candies print ads through the years, talk about tasteless and demeaning.) Oh, and there she was on the cover of People with her son. Now that’s private.
Palin has traded on her sexuality for years. That is her right. But to get offended by someone else who plays with that image in a manner you didn’t intend is hypocritical. But even more hypocritical is to use her children as shields and cudgels. Making an obvious joke about Bristol into one about Willow was the Palins’ choice. Putting Piper on the ice at the hockey game in Pennsylvania was Palin’s choice. Why would you do these things if your children are that important to you? Aren’t you supposed to protect them, not the other way around? And for all the complaints about the Obama girls, they were in school during the campaign. How much school did the Palins’ children miss as they were dragged on the campaign trail, going from event to event?
This has been a crass effort to stay in the spotlight, not by Letterman, but by Sarah and Todd Palin.
And if you want to get a good look at her governing ability look into the efforts to get food and fuel to the rural and native communities of Western Alaska this last winter. The term missing in action was invented for Sarah Palin, Governor. Probably too busy chasing the next national press opportunity to actually do her job.
Believe it or not, I really do this puts Sarah Palin and her family off the table for comics. Anything that gets her talked about less is good.
So… this is what those ass-hats on the talkback look like every time Drudge links to you? Fucking swell.
Wow the FEMBOTS are out in full force on this post. Shut up and go bake me a pie.
JD get real. Even Obama was offended when comedians & reporters started inching into dissing his family. Then everyone backed off because of the race card implications as well as many media types started burning incense at the altar of Obama. However, I agreed with Obama on that one. I would have like the left-wing, and certain “conservatives”, to have also respected Palin’s family, as Obama himself wanted.
Unless the pro-Obama or anti-palin factions supprt jokes & character cynacism for ALL politicians, then their “oh I am so offended” comments are mute & biased.
Dave got burned trying to burn a female politician & her daughters. Oh f8ckin well. Live with it.
also numbers mean nothing in situations like this. the internet can do alot more damage then any rally of thousands.
just ask…oh lets see…Imus, Dan Rather, and so on and so on…no mass rally’s for either of them, yet both of them have had their careers drastically changed due to the internet.
…and with 68% of adult americans aganst this type of behavior I would say Twitter & company have done their work already.
Dave is a great comedian but he does not understand what he has set himself up against. Sadly his hatred of Palin & her family & conservatism, blinds him from seeing the woods for the trees in what kind of reaction can be generated by his “off-color” “comedic” actions.
i guarantee he will be more cautious now though. ya think?
It was a joke. And Palin used it to stir up the same crazies that are now a far greater threat to our union than any Islamist terrorist.
They will seek to destroy our country from the inside. Like Oklahoma City
The scariest part of the whole story is that a moose-shooting, reactionary, churchifying, lady of limited intelligence, perception and vision came this close to being VEEP of the U.S. of A! YIKES!
Those of you with your long, boring posts about how great Palin is are wasting your time. We’ve heard this crap before and rejected it and her at the ballot box last fall. Run her again in 2012 and it’ll be the same thing. Please give it a rest. Shame on you for acting like you care about women’s issues just to continue forcing her down our throats.
For those of you truly upset by how women are treated in the media, there’s truth to that. I think it’s an area liberals and conservatives could find common ground, that is, IF that’s really the point and you really go after the true culprits, namely advertisers who exploit women daily. Letterman’s joke was insulting and he’s apologized, but the extent of the outrage is questionable.
Well, New York is finally ‘done’ if even New Yorkers are this stupid.
I always find it entertaining when liberals demonstrate such naiveté. Whether it is the tea party demonstrators or a protest of David Letterman’s poor attempt at humor, the media selectively picks the most ill-informed and irritating people in a crowd to cast a negative light on the opposing point-of-view. And then comes the ad hominem attack on Fox News. Such unbridaled ignorance is staggering. The funny thing is, both my liberal and conservative friends pretty much agree that the rampant vulgarity, violence, and voyeurism broadcast by contemporary media has fed the degeneration of American society and culture. And yet, those who identify it and protest it are vilified while the purveyors of this trash are encouraged and supported.
Oh, and by the way Nikki, as you know (maybe you prefer not to believe it), it’s not just a handful of yahoos watching Fox News. Fox gives the other cable news outlets a drubbing—day after day, night after night in all demos.

Total day: FNC: 1148 | CNN: 497 | MSNBC: 382 | HLN: 293
Prime: FNC: 2156 | CNN: 664 | MSNBC: 872 | HLN: 448
Data by Nielsen Media Research. Live and same day (DVR) data.
For all those who think Letterman is being unusually hard on Palin- as I recall, he was far worse on Dan Quayle.(Remember Dan Quayle? The “proto-Palin”?)
Better Angels says “Palin’s daughter is not in the public eye.”
Palin’s 18 year old (adult) daughter did a fucking media tour as a spokeswoman for abstinence education, appearing on multiple national news shows – while being an unwed teen mother herself. That makes her fair game for any comedian anywhere.
If anyone thinks that Letter gave the two shits about Palin that it would take to know that she actually brought her 14 yo daughter to the game, they have no sense of reality. Every one on the planet would hear that joke and KNOW that he meant the 18 year old media-touring one.
Palin is the one who brought her other daughter in to this… ZERO people thought that it was about Bristol until Palin said it was.
I love Dave, so I’m glad the publicity helped him.
And Whiskey? Are you really criticizing him for telling this joke, and then saying that YOU think his half-brothers rape charge is “hilarious”? Wow – do you even realize how much of a farce you are?
Does raping with your mouth qualify as foreplay?
“”Let me ask you something. If Palin can’t handle a stupid joke about her daughter, then how the hell is she supposed to handle things if our country is ever attacked?”
I think JD says it all with that short comment. Seriously, anyone want this reactionary hysteric running this country. It’s absurd.
The video is sad. Fortunately it’s just a few people.
That’s just ignorance, period. I know it’s the American way n all but it’s getting really old really fast.
RE: The Obvious — Eloquently and accurately stated. Funny how, for a bunch of “open-minded free-thinkers” all these writers think in Stalin-esque lock-step!
I’m no apologist for these kooky protestors, but the fact remains you’d have never heard him make those crude “jokes” about Chelsea Clinton, the Gore girls, John Edwards’s daughter, etc. Over the past 15 years he’s become a thoroughly bitter, unfunny ass. His tedious “humor by repetition” shtick was old in the early ’90s and NBC was wise to cut him loose.
As another poster noted, given his elevated salary and the state of tv nowadays, CBS really should sack this guy already and replace him with a more qualified host, not as a capitulation to these loud-mouthed protestors but rather for their own long-term viability.
My the far lefter’s venom is certainly spewing today! I guess that SAG vote is still churning in your gut.
My personal favorite is the man yelling at the Black woman. He really worked that finger and neck wave. And had some body fluidity to boot. I give him a 9.5.
The best part of the whole video is the lady who says, “Do you know what Schmuck means in Jewish?” Not hebrew, but “Jewish”.
After watching that, there is no doubt in my mind that these people are all idiots of the worst kind.
She really does look like a slutty flight attendant thhough – great joke
He’s gutless (won’t take on Obama who is hilarious with his half-brother who’s refused admittance into the UK over a rape charge … of a 13 year old girl)
Comment by whiskey — June 16, 2009 @ 11:34 pm
I thought rape jokes about young girls weren’t funny?
And to all of those claiming Dave is losing money because of this whole thing… his ratings are the best they’ve been in years. Palin jokes boost ratings (remember SNL last year?) and Obama jokes don’t, so that’s why they tell them. Maybe you’re the one living in a bubble.
Funny how they like Jay Leno. Maybe they thought Jay’s delivery of the same joke last fall during the campaign was funnier.
The husbands of those shrill shrews in the video were probably off having affairs while their better halves were feigning false outrage over a late-night talk show joke.
Palin’s daughter is not in the public eye.
Better Angels, I beg to differ. I hold in my hands the People magazine with Bristol Palin on the cover. She also volutarily appeared on numerous television news programs discussing her single motherhood. To me, she is definitley in the public eye and is there of her own choosing.
It was a poor joke, if you can even call it a joke. Sometimes Dave’s writers (and Dave) really flub up on their comedy.
That said, it’s not worth firing over. As noted elsewhere, Conan and Leno made many references to Bristol’s behavior and her public efforts at abstinence. So it is fair ground.
And Dave’s Top Ten list was the best mea culpa ever.
Go Dave.
Wow ! This is worth protesting really? I don’t exactly think what Dave said was ok but if these people think this is worth protesting over all the other issues .Granted it’s only 15 people but these 15 people need to be smacked just ridiculous
Before everyone huffs and puffs about how sexist David Letterman is and how Sarah Palin is fighting the good fight for women, you should take a look at the following article:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shannyn-moore/top-10-reasons-sarah-pali_b_215468.html
Shannyn Moore, on the Huffington Post, compiled a bunch of jokes, many worse and many about her family, that Sarah Palin ignored up until this point. Most notably, there was a joke on SNL about incest in her family, and then Palin appeared on the program the following week.
She craves media attention and has gone to extreme lengths to preserve her 15 minutes of fame – the least of which includes parading her pregnant daughter Bristol around the debates while she’s holding her mother’s new child.
The joke was obviously directed at Bristol, the legal adult, mother and spokeswoman for abstinence. When she is publically conducting television interviews and is a national spokeswoman, she becomes a part of the spotlight.
It’s the same reason we don’t sympathize with celebrities for getting hassled by the paparazzi – you knew about it getting into the game.
If someone is an abstinence-only person, then gets pregnant at 17, then says “Abstinence doesn’t work” and then becomes an abstinence only spokesperson – it’s a little hypocritical.
Furthermore, why are you angry about a comedian and not Right Wing tv and radio extremists who, under no guise of humor, openly ask for violence and contributed to the death of Dr. Tiller and the shooting at the holocaust museum?
@ BS Factor:
Indeed!
Failin’ Palin is the pet rock of 2008 — seemed like a good idea at the time (to uninformed morons), but in the end she’s still just a stupid rock.
@ JD:
We ARE talking about someone who actually believes dinosaurs and humans coexisted.
Yes, she’s that stupid.
“Furthermore, why are you angry about a comedian and not Right Wing tv and radio extremists who, under no guise of humor, openly ask for violence and contributed to the death of Dr. Tiller and the shooting at the holocaust museum?” Comment by radio-ad-man
nice shot radio-ad-man. too bad you cant back it up.
also nice how you and the left wing media have ignored the left-leaning radical who murdered at the Holocaust museum. He was anti-FOXNEWS, anti-Jew and anti-Christian, anti-bible, among other favorite radical positions.
@ Luzid, the only one feeling like a rock in mud right now is Letterman. In less then one week he has gotten ALL of the women on the View AND N.O.W. TO SUPPORT PALIN ON AN ISSUE!!! HAH!!!
The only other rock i can see is the one thrown at the powerful liberal glass house that thinks it can insult anyone they disagree with AND NOT SUFFER CONSEQUENCES.
PALIN DAVID HAS MADE THE LIBERAL GOLIATH MEDIA NETWORKS SHAKE IN THEIR PANTS, ESPECIALLY THEIR POSTER-CHILD DAVE LETTER-HEAD.
ROCK ON GIRL!
I think we’re all still waiting for someone…..ANYONE….to say that they actually thought, when they heard or read the joke, that Letterman was refering to the 14 year old girl.
So far, all these people condemning him are saying is that he made a joke about a 14 year old girl (even though we all know he didn’t).
Yet, still, NOT ONE PERSON is claiming they actually thought, at the time the joke was told, that he was refering to anyone other than the 18 year old single mother who put herself on the cover of “People Magazine” recently.
SOMEONE< COME FORWARD and reveal yourself as thinking he was talking about the 14 year old…..WE NEED THE ENTERTAIMENT VALUE OF YOUR EXISTANCE!
I for one hope Palin continues chasing windmills. Continue feeding this moron rope and she’ll eventually hang herself.
Anyone who thinks Palin was behind making a big deal of this has their head up their ass.
With Conan taking over from Leno last week, the old coot Letterman knew he had to do something to get attention. After all, he’s always been Leno’s bitch in the ratings. And he got it by attacking a fourteen year old girl (the only one that was with her mother in NYC for anyone who prefers to work with facts as opposed to the purposely misinformed Whie House talking points delivered by shitheads Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart) and dragging this saga on as long as he could.
It was all for Letterman’s ratings, morons. And, as expected, they went up for the first time in years.
He merely took a page out of the Donald Trump handbook – act like an asshole, drag it out and cash in ratings time.
Also, hypocrital that he’s calling Palin a slut while it took him years to finally marry the mother of his child, a woman who spread her legs for old Dave for years before he deemed her worthy of making an honest woman out of.
Letterman has issues with women. He’s shown it time and again.
What is it with liberals and their hatred for women who look like women? If Palin looked like a man or dyke like every female liberal politician out there, the Obama media would actually have to focus on her politics.
Couldn’t have that, could we? Because then that would show up the naked emperor.
Instead, they’d rather marinate in frat house “jokes” about how women are all sluts and statutory rape is comedy gold.
Go fuck yourselves. Nobody else will.
Wow, Dorothy!
Given all the slurs & inaccuracies you posted maybe it’s time to click your angry red heels & wish your nasty ass back to Kansas!
Bitch, dyke? “looked like a man like every female liberal politician”?
It takes a man to make a woman honest?
And you say Letterman has issues w/ women?
You just spewed more misogyny in a small, single post than Letterman has displayed in 30 years.
Letterman is Andy Rooney’s twin. He doesn’t look like he knows where he is let alone what he is saying. You can’t blame him for what other people put in his mouth.
Nick Hronis is spot on. Leno does more bad taste material, specifically gay bashing, than anyone, and his jokes aren’t even funny. And he’s gotten in trouble with gay groups because of it. So these idiots outside Rock. Center are just uninformed nobodies. I guess because the young and the liberal don’t watch leno he flies under the radar.
I’m not sure when DHD took on sort of a Crossfire tone of Democrat vs. Republican. But it has. I guess it’s emblematic of the country at large. I’m not sure if I like it or not…I do know that while I’m no longer a Letterman devotee I still consider myself a fan. He’s the lesser of the late night evils, along with Conan and Craig.
‘Dorothy’ (this gets inverted commas since it obviously is not a real name) – please find somewhere productive to focus your extraordinary anger. Who cares about this Letterman thing? Does this affect anyone or effect anything other than a self-perpetuating-masturbating mini media frenzy? No. So drop it.
Real things are taking place in the world right now and if you’re this angry it’s probably not because some late night comic made a joke you find distasteful. So get informed (e.g. stop watching tv, read an accurate history of what’s been going on in the world since the early 1970s, see if ‘neoliberalism’ rings any bells) and do something other than making repulsive and sexist (good call Anonymous) posts on websites you visit. Of course I hesitate to encourage you to ‘get involved’ because from what I can glean ‘your’ beliefs are regressive and a little appalling.
This Letterman nonsense and things like it really only function only to reroute, rewire, and frustrate public outrage. Get over it, please.
I bet every one of the above comments (short of Al Bergette and Miller J- kudos) are by men who hate women….sorry, but you can’t live without us…. assholes. Maybe your Mommies didn’t suckle you all enough OR you’re not getting any. I don’t like being mean, but was taught to defend when being attacked and you’re all gross, probably fat slobby losers who live to write hateful things about women and young girls – go die.
In reference to the comment by PJG: “The best part of the whole video is the lady who says, ‘Do you know what Schmuck means in Jewish?’ Not hebrew, but ‘Jewish’ “…
I didn’t see the video, but you should know that “schmuck” is Yiddish and not Hebrew, and furthermore my own grandmother (who often spoke in Yiddish at home) would refer to it as “Jewish,” which is what the word “Yiddish” means.
Go display your ignorance on some other site, please. Geh kaken oyfen yam.
Hollywood’s Rape Chic
America disagrees with Hollywood’s “Rape Chic” message: (i) Racist Sandra Bernhard – Palin should Be Gang Raped By Blacks In Manhattan, (ii) Tina Fey and Palin Family incest, (iii) Letterman and statutory rape of Willow Palin, and (iv) Playboy web article on “Hate Raping” 10 conservative women.
David Letterman is a jerk for attacking a 14 year-old, but to his credit he is the only one who apologized for his hate speech. Also, credit to National Organization For Women (NOW) for the first time in history criticizing (Letterman and Playboy) misogynistic comments directed at conservative women. Usually, for NOW, you have to be pro-abortion rights to be considered a real woman.
I HATE David Letterman! If it wasn’t for him, the economy wouldn’t be in the toilet; Ahmadinejad wouldn’t have been able to steal his re-election; GM wouldn’t have to file for bankruptcy; the government wouldn’t have had to bail out all of those insurance companies and banks; global warming wouldn’t exist; gays and lesbians wouldn’t be able to get married; my cat wouldn’t have gone missing; and Earth, as we know it, would be Paradise.
You know, now that I write all this down and see how incredibly insane it all is, I think it’s possible Letterman isn’t actually capable of / responsible for any of the above OR any of the other incredibly stupid / insane things people seem to be accusing him of. Maybe he’s just a guy on tv who tells jokes (many are funny, a few are not – just my take), and people are actually angry at the way their lives have gone downhill over the last eight years. Hmmm… maybe that’s worth thinking about.
Memo to cookmeyer1970. John McCain actually gained states and electoral votes due to Sarah Palin. They actually won North Dakota and Missouri and held on until the bitter end regarding North Carolina, Indiana, and Kentucky. Plus, until the economy reared its ugly head, it appeared that McCain would steal the election away from Obama despite the media support for him.
Of course, it didn’t help for McCain to jolt the Late Show in favor of the CBS Evening News and lie to Dave about it saying that he had to get back to Washington ASAP and didn’t leave until the next morning. And to top it off, John McCain suspended his campaign for a few days. You liberals are hypocrits because you were all enjoying the destruction that McCain got complete with an appearance by Keith Olbermann. Al Bergette is right Hollywood lives in a bubble. You are all forgetting that Dave is an equal opporunity offender and has skewed both Bill and Hillary since their first days in office.
These comments are ridiculous. When I was a child I was told I should respect my elders. But the more and more I have to ask myself…why?
The economy, emotion or faith based “thinking”, a group of people so stuck in their single minded way of viewing the world they can’t see that we aren’t marching towards a cliff, we’ve already fallen off it.
The disrespect and the anger in the video and in some of these comments is astounding.
It seems the only thing most of you did right was produce a generation capable of thinking how to fix your problems. It’s just too bad you didn’t die sooner.
I’m ashamed of/for you.
Ihatefanboys
The crazed Palin-haters are no different than the crazed Bush-lovers.
You’re all the same people. Totally unhinged and irrational and hateful.
