According to a survey from MovieTickets.com conducted between August 8th and October 5th of nearly 4,000 movie fans who had just purchased tickets at the website, these are their picks for the "most anticipated" films over the next year:
The MovieTickets.com Top 10 Most Anticipated Films
1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Warner Bros)
2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Fox)
3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Paramount)
4. Public Enemies (Universal)
5. Angels & Demons (Sony)
6. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (Fox)
7. The Informant (Warner Bros)
8. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Fox)
9. The Day the Earth Stood Still (Fox)
10. The Taking of Pelham 123 (Sony)

hah, none of those movies interest me. I’m excited for Slumdog Millionaire, the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Revolutionary Road… but maybe that’s cos I’m a film snob
and the previews for the “The Day The Earth Stood Still” REMAKE look awful…
Really? Where is G.I. Joe? Star Trek XI?
“Angels and Demons”? Are they kidding? Opie and company have zero credibility after the awful, dreary and boring “DaVinci Code” – this prequel is doomed. Enough of Tom Hanks smugness and Dan Brown’s religion bashing.
How about a comedy, Opie?
What’s the latest regarding “The Watchmen”?
Why is Day the Earth Stood Still on here? It comes out Dec. 12.
Also I think Paramount should start worrying about all that money they’re putting into Star Trek and its brutal release date right between Wolverine one week before and Angels and Demons, Night at the Museum 2 and Terminator 4 in the two weeks afterward. I think Star Trek might benefit by holding off until a release around Thanksgiving of 2009 or, at least, later in the summer…
C’MON PEOPLE!! WHERE THE HELL IS STAR TREK AND AVATAR?! Those are easily two of the most antcipated by far. Especially Star Trek, how can you not be psyched about a rebirth of a franchise that actually needed it. I’m not a JJ Abrams fan in the least bit, MI:III story sucked but the direction was pretty tight.
There’s some bad buzz concerning the latest Potter. They veered away from the book a lot supposedly which is a bad thing because its the only Potter book I read in which I actually enjoyed. Very dark.
Transformers…have to see a trailer in order for the deal to be sealed. Could be great. Could suck big time.
Wolverine…I just don’t trust FOX in producing a good movie. They’ve probably taken Gavin Hood’s cut and chopped into a more “family friendly” incoherent version — PUBLIC ENEMIES — need to see a trailer, too many crime movies being produced, saturation level iis nigh.
ANGELS & DEMONS…okay now its time to put down the crack pipe…are you freaking kidding me?!!!
Hmmmmmmmm….odd. There’s no $200+ Millon “Terminator 4″ on the list. Somebody, somewhere in marketing is freaking out.
What?!? No Watchmen?
From this list, I am most interested in Public Enemies, Transforers 2, The Informant, and The Taking of Pelham 123.
Geez. 2009 is gonna suck.
I’m pretty sure “The Day the Earth Stood Still” comes out December 12th.
Looks like a weak year…
1. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Day the Earth Stood Still (Fox) comes out this year. Dec. 12, 2008
ughhhh….
9 out of 10 appear to be big budget schlock geared towards masses of idiot movie-goers. What a shame.
Very surprised not to see GI Joe up there
The day the earth stood till will get a release this year!!
Who is anticipating these movies? We could care less. Boring!
29 million teens waiting for SOUL SURFER—bethany hamilton film……announced today in variety via dolphin
Night at the Museum 2? Come again?
Talking of Pelham one two three was a GREAT film in 1973. It captured a time and place that will be hard to duplicate!
What, no love for WATCHMEN or AVATAR?
NO WATCHMEN?!?!!!!
Travesty!!!!!!!!
Public Enemies — what the hell? Never even heard of it!?
Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian — Are you for real?
The Informant — another one I’ve never heard of!!!???
Is this serious???!!!
Who voted on the list… execs at NBC and LionsGate? The actors in the anti-Al Franken commercial???
Terminator Salvation…
hmmm i guess watchman and star trek have no interest?
Sorry, but there is NO WAY IN HELL the general public is aware yet of “Public Enemies,” “The Informant” or “Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3.”
I’d like to see the how the survey was conducted and whether it was multiple choice, write-in, or what.
This seems more like a survey conducted by 20th Century Fox’s PR dept.
I guess the date for Fox’s remake of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL has changed since this survey was taken; it’s now scheduled for December 12th, 2008.
And the remake of THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE showing up makes no sense. Has there been any press on that film at all? Even promotional shots? I think that just underscores the fact this survey’s sample probably isn’t representative of the public.
Transformers #3? Sorry, can’t help but laugh at what the public want out of movies these days. I read a quote recently from a viewer which summed it up best:
“I just don’t wanna have to think.”
There could be so much said about that quote and where the human race is headed, but I think I’ll just leave it be
Surprised Avatar isn’t on the list.
No Watchmen?
Surprising.
not an original script (non-adaptation/sequel/remake) in the bunch. scary.
Avatar junkies, that movie’s not a Summer release – Fox and Cameron agreed to wait til Christmas, marking a 12-year Titanic anniversary with extra time to tweak FX and add DLP theaters.
G.I.Joe’s not on the list b/c Joe fans have already glimpsed the bizarro cheesefest that Stephen Sommers and Lorenzo di Bonaventura altered it into – although the characters retain their names, the movie is not respectful to the source material and is about the same quality as Fantastic Four. Joe’s box-office is going to be way, way lower than Transformers and that’s entirely the filmmakers’ fault for arrogantly refusing Zak Snyder-level sincerity.
What a clever moved by WB to postpone Harry’s movie to 09. Only further fuel the demand. I for one can’t wait for it.
Surprise to see Angels & Demons on the list. The 1st one was darn awful. Here’s hoping for a better 2nd round.
I’m not surprised at the lack of love for STAR TREK. As a major Trek fan, I have ZERO interest in this. The cast looks like a bunch of teenagers to start with, and Chris Pine is no Shatner. Hell, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana instead of Jimmy Doohan and Nichelle Nichols? Even those shoes are way beyond the newbies ability to fill them. Paramount should have recognized Roddenberry was right when he decided to create THE NEXT GENERATION, and set this film even further into the future than waste time, money and effort into recreating something that hasn’t a hope in hell of matching expectations.
However, I’m more than amazed that WATCHMEN isn’t on the list, given audience reactions to the trailer and considering it played before THE DARK KNIGHT.
Shows how unreliable internet buzz is in gauging the public’s interest in a movie. Think of all the fan sites drooling over “Watchmen”, “Avatar”, etc., and yet when people on the street are asked they couldn’t care less.
AVATAR is the only movie to anticipate next year.
AVATAR WILL BOMB. Trust me.
How is Avatar not on that list let alone #1?
Wolverine = Deadpool spin off = Ryan Reynolds = Hot!!
FROST/NIXON!
Come on!
Benjamin button is this year. GI Joe and Star Trek IX will be huge. I know these are Paramount movies but I think these might actually make money.
Smurf – If you had actually screened one of the cuts of GI Joe and if you understood the franchise you might have a different view. Then again, you’re probobly a typicle stuborn, know-it-all californian that wouldn’t acknoeldge fact or truth if it was standing right in front of you starring at you.
Nikki, you’ve gotta be friggin kidding me. That list are all big budget films that the studios want to see make it big, but it simply isn’t going to be the case. Some will do well. Many will not.
And don’t underestimate the draw JJ Abrams has on people right now. I think Paramount’s decision to move ST to summer is a really bad decision. Star Trek would do great at Christmas or early spring, but it has never been a BIG blockbuster type movie franchise. Still, it has always been reliable and performs well at the box office, even the ones that bomb.
So I hope it will do really well, but with only a week to make its numbers between other new big budget releases, this is going to be tough.
But GI Joe and ST are some of the ones that are very anticipated in the genre. It will bring in crowds, unless the films totally suck. And that is not the word on the street at this time.
My money is on Public Enemies and Johnny Depp.
What about Cena’s 12 Rounds? This guy will finally get noticed by folks outside wrasslin’ circles…
filmlover24/7
You are so right about “Star Trek.” Right on the damned money!
Whew! I thought I was the only one who smelled that stench.
I LIKE HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE BUT ALSO FRIDAY THE 13TH (ISN’T IN THE LIST)
I have also heard rumors about the justice leage…where is that one? iron man 2? hulk 2? batman? i am sure that these all will be coming out within the next year right. i am sure they should be on there. this list sucks…i dont even know what some of these are.
terminator 4 will just be a copycat of transformers 2 why look at the robot at the end of the trailer
new moon!!!!
Whoa….. cool!!
i’m despeartely waiting for most of these films plus Terminator 4 : Salvation too!!!
what about the “twilight,new moon”
when it will going to show in the cinima
Hello!!! What about New Moon???? Millions of people are awaiting for its release. It is obviously one of the most anticipated movies of 2009. i cant beleive its not on the list Robert Pattinson Kristen Stewart Taylor Lautner all star in new moon by the way
This list isn’t that great! But it’s not as bad as some other lists
The Hangover is one of the gretest movies of 2009. I didn’t expect this to be anticipated because before it came out, it just looked like pure counter programing (to Land of the Lost). Turns out women and men alike love the idea of a stag night gone awry. For those of you that saw and loved The Hangover, good news. There’s a sequel coming out in 2011. When MTV Movie Awards 2010 comes around tell your mates to vote for The Hangover because it’s by far the funniest movie of the year. Do this for Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Mike Tyson, Heather Graham and Las Vegas. GO THE HANGOVER!!!
