MONDAY AM: It looks like this was not a resignation, but a defection. That's right -- UTA partner and co-head of the motion picture talent department David Guillod told the tenpercentery he was leaving the agency biz to supposedly join a content company. He said he was going into business with Eric Gitter, his client who's a partner in the comic book company Oni Press. On Saturday, Guillod sent UTA head Jim Berkus a request for modification of his exit payment so he could get more money upfront to help him start his content business. The agency said no. One, two, three, and presto -- he's starting today at Paradigm! I suspect there'll be a tug-of-war for Guillod's clients. And UTA is now saying they didn't want him to stick around anyway and actually relieved him of his duties as co-head of the motion picture department six weeks ago in anticipation of his exit. So why didn't they tell me? An insider explained to me just now, "We were trying to be good guys so he could experience a soft landing in the marketplace." (This is why I love the agency biz!)
Here is Paradigm's internal announcement from owner Sam Gores: "We are very pleased to announce today that David Guillod will join us at Paradigm. David has spent the last 8 years at UTA where he was a partner and the Head of the Motion Picture Talent department and before that was a partner at Handprint. Many of us have known David for several years, going back to his manager days and we are very happy to have him on board. Even though David has been contemplating a move into the Development Business, he decided after meeting with us over the holiday weekend and some further soul searching that he really loved his clients and being an agent. Therefore he decided that the culture and environment at Paradigm is the right place for him to pursue the next chapter of his career. It is too soon to make any announcements regarding clients but know that David will assume a very senior agent capacity within the agency. David is a great addition to Paradigm’s present and future. Please join me in welcoming him to the Paradigm family."
WEDNESDAY 10AM: UTA talent partner David Guillod is leaving UTA and the agency business to supposedly join a content company. According to an email that UTA Chairman Jim Berkus sent out to the agency, “We have enjoyed many successes together with David and very much look forward to working with him in the future.” He reps Liv Tyler, Don Cheadle, Justin Long.

Guillod is a class act. Very very tough but always fair. I’ve been in some very intense negotiations with him over the years and no matter how divided we were and how acrimonious it got, he always found a compromise that left everyone satisfied. He is atypical and outside of the normalagop]
dpents in this town are consumed with ego to the detriment of their clients. Guillod is the consumate pro who always protects his clients while never being overly piggish in a fashion that would detract from the success of the project. Total pro. A deal maker amongst deal breakers. He will be severly missed.
i wish him luck. he’s a good guy.
Wow. David was a pleasure to work with. I wish him well.
Putz…nothing more
doofus.
NO WAY THOSE FIRST TO COMMENTS WERE WRITTEN BY ANYONE BUT GUILLOD OR HIS MOTHER
he’s a perpetual midlife crisis
Always professional. Deserves the best in whatever he decides to do.
“THE” forever.
used car salesman.
sleaze.
I assume “soul searching” = “Brinks truck.”
Just another example of UTA’s lack of vision and a further sign Paradigm is coming up in the world. Guillod is the right guy, at the right time, with the right ideas. Say what you want about the guy personally, but his business acumen and brilliance cannot be questioned. Great move for Paradigm and a black eye for UTA.
Such a large difference of opinion, so I’m leaning towards him being a good guy, since that’s rarely said about an agent.
It cost uta a fortune when he was hired. Another uta goof that cost them plenty. He never brought in the monies to cover his salary and bonus. He is no great loss and will prove just another mediocre hire.
Congrats UTA. You are now the new Innovative Artists. No more Statt. No more Guillod. No more real men. U have dead weight all over that place, and only have complaciency. Its an agency with tons of servicing agents w no clients just collecting paychecks. You have a corporate marketing department w no clients. The agents in that department just collect paychecks, and don’t show up to work. The ownership has protected themselves right out of this biz by not promoting capable agents, and not bringing in any real agents with real clients. You have one leading man in Johnny Depp in that Talent department. The rest are a bunch of Jason Lewis’s. Actually, UTA is an alternative TV and below the line agenyc only now if you hadn’t noticed. I’d have to say that comparing UTA to Innovative is aiming to high. UTA is now the new Kohner Agency. The agents at UTA don’t work. They take incoming calls that are barely coming in. Ten years ago you could walk into UTA and itd be thriving. They had all the big comedians and A list leading men. Never leading woman mind you. Now its like walking into a morgue. So quiet you don’t even hear agents yelling to their assistants while rolling calls. They are all in AA or rehab becuz u can’t get a job or promoted their unless u r actually in AA or rehab. They should just use the place as a set for Entourage to help subsidizE their income…Oh wait…that’s an Endeavor package so they can’t. Bahahahahha
Hey…why ya gotta diss Kohner? That’s actually a pretty good agency, and their lit department is top-notch. UTA wishes it had an agent like Kohner’s Stephen Moore.
Yawn….
wonderful addition. does this mean that moron valkyrie (or whatev the F her name is) is no longer “heading” the dept…?
lol… consumed with ego describes the man perfectly
It’s Only Money Thinks $$$$$… He doesn’t care about the quality of the movies, his clients have lost great scripts…
