Not funny but totally true… The Entourage writers visit Cliche City every week, recycling tired storylines. If only they had a writer on board with balls to actually do something other than the same old “everything works out in the end” lame-ass story. Seasons 1 & 2 were great but it’s died since then.
P.S….
I was really digging Season 5’s ending. I thought maybe they’d woken up and made Vince meltdown. And then what? They went and fucked it up with some lame-ass call from MS offering a role out of the blue. Yeah, great writing…just make everything previous in the episode and season meaningless with one 60-phone call.
It’s funny cause it’s true. Entourage is a popular show, but it’s also a bad one.
“I am Queens BLVD” – keep an eye out for Ben Schwartz this year!!
That’s really funny (if a little too long.)
And yes, season one and two were gold. Then its been downhill since then.
I remember the Vegas episode where they tried to make it a big deal that Vince lost some money, but shockingly it all worked out by episode’s end. Whew!
The spoof did leave out those random rants Doug Ellin writes for Ari where he just goes off on all women. Yeesh.
Love the show, but DAMNED this one is so true.
No that I work for WME – I get to see this dreck live with Ari & Rick Rosen. Oh boy.
And, it’s still as poorly written as the TV Show.
A lot of valid points from both sides, but those targeting sites like Hulu as a negative seem to be stuck thinking deep inside the box. Get out of the dark ages people; you are way out of touch with reality!
*It has been repeatedly noted that network TV is available to consumers free of charge through ad revenues, why do others keep jumping back to the cable (”even basic”) comparison? Network television does not require a cable subscription last I checked. Hulu primarily provides already purely ad-supported non-subscription based new content that is available on network TV, the few instances of cable programming available there are generally a single promotional episode (in most cases the same single episode is also available for free-view on the cable channel’s website) with heavy suggestion that if you like the show you can check it out on its cable channel, though there are a few exceptions.
*Hulu has broken the mold for conventional programming by not only providing us with readily available TV/cable network programming from a variety of networks in one place, but they are also giving a voice to exceptional high quality web programming. In almost every case the web exclusive programs that are available on Hulu would never see the light of day on conventional television either due to content or show style, where conventional TV forces shows to pad or cut their length to fill a time slot, these shows can be offered in their intended length, whether that be 5 minutes or 105, whether new or recycled decades old shows. It also allows the content provider a great deal of control over episode availability if they aren’t comfortable with endlessly available free content, while still creating re-watch potential for shows since they aren’t only available in real time, and because the shows are generally aired on Hulu at a delay of 5-8 days from their airing on TV, there is still a case for watching shows on TV (at least the die hard fans and bloggers will).
* For anyone who has used or tried to use the network online TV players, they know what a pain it can be at times. ABC’s player is by far the best in my opinion yet its still bloated, slow at time, and annoying. The Hulu player is lightweight, streamlined and by far the most user friendly interface out there at this point. They player and streaming run fairly well even on lower bandwidth connections, so only the few who remain limited to dialup are really going to have a problem. As far as the actual viewing experience, at this point even my grandparents know how to hook up the PC to their TV, so its not like people are sitting in front of a 15” monitor squinting to watch.
*Thumbnails/clips are readily available to link to friends, which is huge for word of mouth. If I see a funny sketch on SNL/The Daily Show/etc, I no longer have to wade through low quality, poorly cut, or “removed due to copyright infringement” clips on Youtube/Google. The viral potential coming out of this is great for Hulu/Advertisers/Content Providers, you only have to look at the popularity of Hulu’s exclusive posting of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog to understand, anyone who hasn’t heard of it must have been living under a rock for the past 6 months. Worth noting that Dr. Horrible was also the first globally available content on Hulu, most network content is US only at this point, but it was a great use case so the potential is there to take Hulu (and its ads) to the world.
* Advertising. The potential is endless when the ads being presented are specifically designed to be less intrusive/annoying than what we are force fed on TV and consumers can actually interact with the ads. Okay, so some of the ads are annoying, but for most part they are smart, cleanly made, and if you aren’t terribly interested they are short enough that most people won’t be put off by it. Users are often given the chance to choose their viewing experience now by selecting if they want to see one 2-3 minute commercial at the start, or if they are happy with the short commercials throughout their program.
Additionally, (sorry to pick on you Ace) “ when the show’s over we actually leave …and BUY the stuff advertised on the “free” shows. Trust me, we do.” delay leads to lower likelihood of purchase, who wants to wait to buy that cool thing in the ad on TV when on Hulu you can just click through from the ad to the advertiser website, research the product and purchase it. With the advent of internet shopping do people honestly go to stores that frequently anymore? Personally, I rarely do unless it’s for groceries or other items I must have in hand right away, not impulse buys I purchase because of an ad.
All that said, my support for Hulu comes from the fact that I am their ideal target audience. I have not previously and will not subscribe to cable/satellite TV because there is nothing I need to watch. Before there was Hulu, I was watching TV on the individual network websites (ABC.com, NBC.com, CBS.com) all of which have their own unique problems mostly with annoying or unstable player applications. Before that I didn’t watch network TV at all, so it is literally a case of if streaming online content isn’t available, I will simply not bother. I’m not willing to halt my life in order to sit in front of a TV for an hour to watch a show when I could be online watching it side by side while gaming, shopping, browsing, chatting, emailing, working, or anything else.
Very funny and spot on. Still love the show though.
But seriously you guys — is Vince actually gonna do that Scorsese movie??
Can’t wait to find out. Season 6 FTW!!
Spot f’ing on.
The Show sucks. I loved it by the end of Season 2…and then nothing happened.
How come everyone who watches realizes this and no one at the show does.
Also, what happened to the character of Sloan? One of the prettiest women in Hollywood and she is hardly EVER on the show anymore.
Meh, dumb dude show.
the show is a fucking televised version of an ed hardy hat.
i can’t believe people can dedicate so much time to a show whose highest pleasure is the recognition of local monuments.
and this elbowed out the comeback? HBO, you got eclipsed by showtime and you deserved it.
Funny but too long. Learn to edit, boys.
All these actors are NYC/UCB guys and are awesome. Bobby Moynihan, Adam Palley, Gil Ozeri, Thomas Middleditch, Curtis Gwinn, and Ben Schwartz. These guys are making comedy, people! Yay to College Humor for putting out the hits!
Haha, who will tell Obama he’s a fan of a repetitive show?
I still like the show — even though it’s nowhere NEAR what it was in season 2 — but man, is this clip ever hilariously true.
That’s exactly my problem with the show. There are opportunities for genuine conflict and the writers dodge them for feel good bromance vibes every single time.
It’s not funny enough to be a comedy and there’s not enough drama (no pun intended) to be compelling viewing.
What exactly IS Entourage?
Without conflict there’s no drama. It’s a TV show, people.
As funny as something derived from something incredibly unfunny can be.
“What exactly IS Entourage?”
Its Levinson trying to make his pound of fle$h off of Marky Mark before he ended up a washed up loser like Eric Weinstein…got it:)
The show is unintentionally hilarious. It’s not very clever and is hard as hell to watch without thinking about a room full of writers giggling at their own lack of creativity. Take Johnny Drama out of the show and no one would watch it at all.
I loved it give these guys an Oscar. They have passion and humor. Even the night lighting was great, the satire amazing. As for entourage, well I bough season two and one on DVD for the opening scenes. It was repetitive but had a Hollywood story line; season three is broken into two purchases so I passed.
I hope these guys get some real work they were dead on.
In my conversation with a cameraman/ producer he told me you have to have the fire in the belly. These guys do, Ari, the brother, the film turn downs, make another one baby.
I agree with most people here. Season 1 and 2 was great but not anymore. The show has become completely obnoxious and predictable. I’d like to see Vince really hurt for a while, do a celebrity reality show like on Extras, lose his preferential treatment at clubs and restaurants, etc… and of course, ultimately he could pull through, but they need to do something to really shake it up. Ari is the only reason I kept watching, but that may not even be enough this year.
I feel like people in the Biz HAVE to watch this show, as opposed to WANT to. It’s like Variety – I mean, we all have to read it even tho it’s lame compared to other outlets.
Ben Schwartz is fuckin’ genius.
Ben Schwartz = super funny
College Humor = something that is extremely lame without Ben Schwartz
Entourage – deus ex machina @ its finest…only thing missing from the last 30 seconds of every show is the arrival of the Mystery Machine so Daphne can pull off Ari’s face and reveal “Oh my god, it was Old Man Jenkins all along!”
It was about a minute too long. Still funny though.
Hey, i was wondering if you could tell me who wrote this Entourage spoof and also the names of the actors.
Thxs!
