Now I've heard everything. After several years of having little homegrown product except for DreamWorks fare, Paramount proudly trotted out JJ Abrams' reimagined Star Trek at the hot-ticket premiere last night. But get this -- I'm told the catering company got the wrong date and location for the after party. Which meant that, at 7:30 PM, the staff had to run to Whole Foods and find some eats. It looked like a full-frills premiere except for the guests snacking on dinner rolls, salad, pita and hummus. I just heard from a Paramount insider: "You got it right. The events company screwed up. But our team managed to pull something good together in 3 hours, which is very impressive."

the buzz is so amazing with this one who cares? and maybe they even saved some money…….
This is why you win awards for being a top industry blog. Hard-hitting news like this. Gimme a break.
It actually turned out for the best, because Sumner Redstone was originally planning to do all the cooking himself, and I don’t think the guests would have gone for corn-mush and fiber supplements.
i was at the preemiere and the food was delicious and the event looked beatiful, great time
I was there and there was food. I had chicken and pasta, actually.
The food was great! People were lining up for it.
Thoughts and prayers are with the assistant(s) catching the blame on that one…
Was at the Star Trek event last night and it was AMAZING! May be the most extraordinary Hollywood premiere party I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending. From the moment you walked through the entry, I was greeted by servers carrying glasses of wine – what a way to welcome folks! The layout was classy and elegant and I loved the addition of a photo booth with great Star Trek props to dress up in. Very fun. The light show was innovative and the DJ really rocked the house. And the food was delicious! I think the blog above was wrong. We were treated to a wonderful assortment of exquisite cheeses and large plates of sushi and assorted appetizers which were served by a great wait-staff. The setup was great as there were several food stations set-up with salads and main courses throughout the space so no long waits in line. Also, there were several bars serving Patron in addition to the wine – well done!
Fabulous event – great catering – well done!
Hmmmmm….don’t know what premiere you attended but I was feasting on an assortment of high-end cheeses and sushi being served to me. No hummus here! The event company rocks!
The food was actually great. Whole Foods should be proud, and fancy pants caterers in this town should be anxious.
Are you kidding me? The food was GREAT. We were just talking about this. We were starving and they had great Italian, Greek and even good Sushi. For a catered party we give them a 9/10.
D.
And no one checked and confirmed with the “events company” in advance of the function? Check, double check, triple check. Assume the worst, prepare for the best.
Great event, never knew that about the food, pasta, salad, BBQ, Mac and Cheese!!, desserts, it was a great night! Good job if you pulled that of in 3 hours!!
Nikki owns most Hollywood stories Jeff…Strikes, Mergers, AND yes, Tofu!
Which events company?
What a bunch of Keystone cops. But the movie is very strong and will do great business despite the gross ineptitude of Paramount. From personal experience, the communication within their current ranks and managment and with outside vendors is disfunctional during the best of times and non-function at times.
Measure twice and cut once.
I would expect more than high end cheeses for the premiere of Star Trek. That’s embarrassing and a total rookie mistake. Agree about triple checking!!!
Was at the event and it was nice to have some “down home cooking” at an event you wouldn’t expect. For being able to pull together something like that in such a short amount of time is AMAZING. In the end, they were able to pull it together and that’s what matters and nothing in this world is perfect.
I was at the red carpet premiere last night, and the film was excellent. Lucky for me I was an invited guest, but the fans, tourists, and gawkers in general were pushing each other around a bit across the street before the show started. The crowd was huge! Plenty of celebs and lots of excitement. Like a rock n roll show! I had a great time! Great show…JJ is truly a Baddd Robot!
The DJ was awful. Food wasn’t special at all, but that’s not Paramount’s fault. Oh well.
I was there. The food was just OK. Basically cheese cubes, hummos, wraps, supermarket sushi – your basic whole foods/gelsons/trader joes upscale supermarket fare. It felt like a Miramax evebnt in the early days when Harvey would send his staff to Trader Joes to get the wine and cheese and they would sneek the food into swanky hotels to avoid paying jacked up rates for room service/catering. So many shills from Paramount logging in here…. Ha!
well done paramount A team. next time the date for an event changes; good idea to tell the catering company. just a thought.
still hungry.
It seems like nobody at the party would have known anything went wrong if it hadn’t been posted in a BLOG… just proves that whoever solved the problem.. did a damn good job. I’d hire them. Congrats to them!
That this is even a story, and that I read it, scares me to no end.
Bottom line is that somebody dropped the ball! That same somebody has been blogging about how great the food supposedly was because no one else cares. Can you say REFUND!
what sucks is the studio execs blaming the catering company for their ineptitude. People loose jobs this way and it isn’t fair.
Why didn’t the executive dining kitchen prepare the food for the gala? At least they would not have forgotten about it or gotten the date wrong. It amazes me that a company with a kitchen would hire out to throw a banquet…
