  • I don’t want to hate on Katalyst or anyone else during this Holiday season of cheer…

But hasn’t every single thing that Katalyst has ever done only served to bring down the level of what used to be called comedy?

How is this video not simply reheated, warmed-up leftovers of 10-year-old South Park bits? I’d rather just watch Spirit of Christmas over and over again (and, okay, I do).

Like my name says, I’m 35 and aware that I may simply not be the demographic.

But I work in the industry, and I’m saddened to see Ashton Kutcher having any say — ANY say — in what comedy should be. It’s nothing personal; I’ve met the guy, and he’s charming and fun in a room. But he’s killing comedy…

Lucky for me, I can just close the browser…

  • Wow! Katalyst finally got something produced!

  • I stopped at :43. I’m assuming that what we DIDN’T see was Ashton grabbing a passerby, overwhelming them with his celebrity, handing them the crappy camera, and saying “just press the red button and we’ll do the rest, then you’ll see it on the Internet!” That probably would have been funnier.

  • I thought that they wanted to focus on new media.

How many staffers do they have for not making anything??

  • Horrible. Ashton’s 15 minutes expired a couple years ago.

  • Oh great, another all white production company. Damn, Ashton where’s the diversity and fairness. Oh and the video sucked!!

    Happy Holidays

Comment by justanobserver — December 18, 2008 @ 8:13 am  Reply to this post
  • By the number of staffers in the video, it seems that they’ve got a lot of overhead! Trim the fat already!

That company should be three employees, tops.

  • Geez, ease up people. It’s a xmas video….for fun. So ya’ll don’t want to work at Katalyst…great, then don’t.

  • Um… I thought the video is really funny. Creative, funny.. what is wrong with all these negative people? Get a life.

Comment by MisterG — December 18, 2008 @ 11:40 am  Reply to this post
  • Wow.

Kind of surprising not a one of them knew how to de-interlace the video.

“Hey how come every time someone moves their hand, it turns into lines. I don’t know, let’s ask Ashton.”

Comment by snakeinmyboots — December 18, 2008 @ 12:39 pm  Reply to this post
  • Wow….you people are all scrooges. Give the guy a freakin break. He does something fun with his staff to spread holiday cheer and you rip him to shreds? Stop hating a get a life. I wish my job was that fun.

Comment by Unbiased — December 18, 2008 @ 12:44 pm  Reply to this post
  • Fuck Ashton Kutcher. His wife ought to tell him how over-exposure can ruin your career (she’d know). I turn the channel every time that stupid camera commercial of his comes on.

  • i laughed.

Comment by repo man — December 18, 2008 @ 3:23 pm  Reply to this post
  • so crappy I just can’t believe it. Yes its a video to have fun with for your staff and such but perhaps an actual writer should have been considered to work something up. I’m not sure who there thought they had a golden idea but I would rather have watched an actual business meeting for Katalyst than what I just watched (and I finished it hoping for a funny ending, DENIED!!)

Comment by Can't Believe — December 18, 2008 @ 4:10 pm  Reply to this post
  • Perhaps if you had any understanding of what their company does you’d understand the need for their employees. 4 departments – scripted TV, reality TV, internet, and film. All of these negative comments stem from ignorance. Love the video guys, it made me laugh!

Comment by puleeze — December 18, 2008 @ 5:33 pm  Reply to this post
  • I can’t stand this Ashton. He’s annoying to be around. UNFUNNY. And the idiot who works with him who married Punky Brewster deserves to be publicly stoned in front of the people who work for him and HATE HIM!

  • WHY NO DANCE NUMBER?!

Comment by Chris Crosby — December 19, 2008 @ 10:38 am  Reply to this post
  • Yeesh. That was like, having your brain scooped out by a rust ice cream scooper. I’m actually a little concerned how bad my head hurts after watching the WHOLE THING!!! Why? WHY WOULD I DO THAT?!

Comment by Bryan — December 19, 2008 @ 5:27 pm  Reply to this post
  • Why are you all complaining? This is what you want to watch! You ask for this, and they deliver it. Personally, I couldn’t even watch this kid on his TV show. He sleeps with a washed up actress, and suddenly he’s superhuman. You all deserve this type of content. This is what you all ask for, and it’s what you all wanted. So eat it and shut your mouths. Your opinion doesn’t matter, so why bother.

Comment by Joe the Filmmaker — December 27, 2008 @ 6:25 pm  Reply to this post
  • wtf ppl?! If you hate it why watch it? This is a great video and so is last years. If you hate it then dont watch dont be a hater and shut up
