Shakira and Usher will reprise their roles as Season 4 judge/mentors, reuniting with show regulars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for the NBC singing competition’s sixth season. They pair returns in a special two-night premiere: 8-10 PM Monday, February 24, and 8-9 PM Tuesday, February 25.

The Voice has averaged a 4.9 rating in the demo and 14.7 million viewers overall with its Monday edition, and a 4.5 and 14 viewers overall on Tuesdays, making it the No. 1-rated Monday and Tuesday series on the broadcast networks so far this season in the demo. Last spring, Shakira and Usher were cast to fill in for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, respectively, on The Voice — the latter two original judge/mentors returning for the fall season. It’s an arrangement the show’s producers appear to have institutionalized. And in so doing, The Voice has become a bastion of judge stability while Fox’s The X Factor is on its third judging panel in three seasons, and we’ve lost count of the various iterations and regroupings on Fox’s American Idol, which in January will feature the return of JLo and Keith Urban and the addition of Harry Connick Jr.

All of this season’s judges on The Voice are coming back but not until next spring. NBC is close to finalizing deals that will see Shakira and Usher returning to the singing competition show for Season 6 in the spring of 2014, insiders say. The return of the duo will see the departure again of original judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green. After taking a cycle off, the two are themselves coming back for season 5 of The Voice, which is set to premiere in the fall. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will continue their bromance and stay on the show for both of the next two seasons. “It is almost all done and the network is looking to make the official announcements in the next few days,” a source told me. Details of the alternating judges plan was first reported by EW. In many ways this isn’t much of a surprise. Executive Producer Mark Burnett has long said that the show could see members of the judging panel coming and going over different seasons depending on their availability. The fifth season of the show has already been fully cast and filming on the Blind Auditions portion of the season is set to begin on July 8. The Voice ends its current season on June 18.

Christina Aguilera is returning to NBC’s The Voice in the fall and Shakira is leaving after just one season, sources tell Deadline. A judge for the first three seasons of the high-rated singing competition, Aguilera left last year to promote her album Lotus, which came out in November. Cee Lo Green, another of the four original judges on the Mark Burnett-produced Voice along with Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, also took a sabbatical to work on his music career. Shakira and fellow newbie Usher joined Levine and Shelton this year for Season 4, which wraps up June 18. Burnett has said change on the judges panel is a part of The Voice. “Everybody can’t coach for life because when you have people with current recording in the game, this is not their job,” he said. “Their job is their fans and making music and being live, and so we knew from the beginning that this would happen, and we’ve had six coaches. They all have another life and their schedules.”
